This place is a perfect brunch spot. I had the best experience here. The inside seating area is small and they are very busy, but I was able to enjoy a relaxing morning on the front patio. The staff are excellent! The kind woman who took my order recommended the Sweet Rose iced drink and it was fantastic! The Burrata was perfect! And I made sure to grab a slice of the coffee cake to go. If I could give more than five stars I would. This is definitely a must try local restaurant. I can see this easily becoming my favorite brunch spot.

MISTAKES HAPPEN: However, the way this establishment handled THEIR honest mistake will lose a once loyal customer. Even the “management” would rather play games of “you offended us” when I should be the one “offended”… Had to wait one hour *which I would be ok with (as I did love this place) - However.. multiple parties arrived after us, and then seated before us, I checked in with the host several times during that.. At 1 hour, we hit the breaking point - what’s going on here? The host finally took us to sit.. so many open tables - we realized we should have been seated after about 15-20 mins - all they had for this simple mistake… EXCUSES. “Management” finally/barely owned up that they did make a mistake, never once offered to make anything right or even say sorry. Again, mistakes are ok - but the way they handled it with their attitude..Bruh not cool The management here is in need of a sincere training on how to retain customers. “Management” should understand that customers who love an establishment like this, will not return when responsibility for their failures is not owned and reconciled. Being “offended” is not an excuse to not make something right. …Seemed as if she did not care if we ever came back, which is sad. I will tell my friends *and I’m a foodie, so they know I know what’s up. So sad.. Classic case of DARVO. Google it Food is very pricey, and to have unprofessional, unfriendly service.. not worth it. Take your money elsewhere.. Sincerely, - A once loyal customer, who may never return :(

Pictured: Biscuit & Gravy and Family breakfast (grits) along with a Cinnamon coffee cake. A popular breakfast spot for good reasons. My wife said their biscuit gravy was the best she's ever had. I was in the mood for some breakfast food and happened upon this place. Everything on the menu looked great, but I settled on the biscuits and gravy. It was delicious and I’d recommend it, but the portion is a bit small. The gravy had a little spice, the biscuit was good, the egg on top was perfect. The combination of ingredients was excellent. Table seating is limited but well worth the 20-minute wait on a Sunday morning. Beautiful and elegant interior sending fresh vibes of an exclusive breakfast and coffee menu. Inside, you will be drawn to discover an Open-faced style of kitchen featuring locally sourced farm to table ingredients cooked professionally to order. The only thing I would change is the food and beverage ordering process. I suggest that full table service would spring this place to the next level and provide positive experiences by keeping the guest seated and freeing up employees' routes to fully service tables. The dishes we ordered were presented exceptionally well with tons of flavor.

Perfect spot for brunch. Coffee. Drinks. Food is exceptional. Only reason for less 1 star was the confusion and unorganized line while entering & waiting on a table. We had to stand for a while bc of some mis communication & also wait on our coffee order for 25mins. Regardless. As long as you’re aware when coming in and state what you want, make it a point to set down and order, it’s well worth the visit! They don’t take reservations so show up early on the weekends. It fills up fast. They have 2 person tables all the way up to 10! And it’s best in good weather to enjoy their outdoor area. It rained during our visit but the umbrellas kept us dry. The atmosphere is very welcoming and homey both inside & out. Perfect little exit from your typical city chain establishments. Food is fresh and well prepared, most dishes have an edge of customization to them. Tables and bathrooms are clean!

When trying someplace new, I tend to weigh them based on four standard dishes depending on their menu. Hamburger, country fried steak. Fish n chips, or Biscuts and gravy. This time, I picked the southern favorite. It wasn't bad, but I will say it was trying to be way fancier than it had to be. The sausage had a nice spice to it, but the dish was overly saged. So much so i couldn't pour on enough hot sauce to make up for it. Plus for a $15 plate of biscuts and gravy, I was expecting some huge meal. It was one dinner roll sized biscut. You'd think being in Kentucky, they'd know how to make this southern delight.

A HAUS AWAY FROM HOME We were in Louisville for 10 days and went here for about 9 of them. We loved it so much that 2 of our party actually moved in upstairs. This little cafe is a total gem and something I truly wish I could bring back home with me. Is has a very European feel mixed with deeply southern routes making it a one of a kind experience. (And one us Londoner’s felt at home at) I tried a lot of the menu and was blown away by all of it (especially the shrooms and grits). A big shout to the legends who work there who went above and beyond to recommend other places and activities and genuinely made our trip a richer experience. If I am ever back in Louisville, I know where I’m staying :)

I popped in here around 10am on a Sunday and can definitely see it's a popular spot. Luckily, there was one seat at the bar for me (~45 min wait otherwise). Service was lightning fast, though. The drink menu is better/more interesting than most coffee shops; they had a matcha series that day, and I went with the iced ginger matcha latte. It was pretty solid and subtly sweet, so the flavors stood out. They have a very solid brunch menu I'd get several things from, but I settled on the smoked trout board. All around, that dish was exceptional, and everything coming out of the kitchen looked good. Quality seems to exceed price here, and I'll happily stop by again the next time I'm in town.

Gralehaus has a ton going for it with some logistical issues that made for a clunky experience for me that could have been great but landed as good in the end. My wife and I went in at 11AM on a Sunday for brunch. I have zero experience in the food service industry, so my take on this experience may be clueless, but it’s just that—my experience. I do want to start with the positive—the food. I had the French toast with eggs and sausage on the side. The bread tasted extremely fresh, and the texture was perfect. The dish itself was complex and not just overly sweet. The cookie butter, syrup, and cream were a great balance of sweet and salty with a hint of sourness. Maybe the best French toast I’ve had. My wife had a frittata that was extremely well executed. The sausage was a large patty, and it tasted fresh and local. The coffee was delicious. We were ushered to the waiting area located through a courtyard in another building with the bar and taps. I cannot stress enough how beautiful this place is. But this was the first bump in the road for me. We were able to order drinks, but everything needed to be shuttled back and forth by the servers, which made service more difficult to render and to receive. The coffee really needed two sugars, and we were given only one. Not a big deal, but it’s not like a server can just grab you something easily when they need to go to a completely different building. By the time we were seated and our food arrived, we’d been nursing the same cup of coffee for probably 25 minutes. This was the second bump. My wife asked for a warm up for her coffee and was told they don’t do “free refills” but we were free to order another cup. At $3.75 a cup, this felt a bit silly. I can understand not wanting to give out bottomless coffee, but a single top off for a cup of drip coffee being out of the question was a big turn-off for both of us. It’s a first world problem, for sure, but on the spectrum of hospitality, it comes across as inhospitable to me. Lastly, I’ll advise that it’s tight quarters. This is definitely a me thing. I get a little anxious dining in small spaces with lots of people. There was probably enough information available for me to come to that conclusion beforehand, but I didn’t. Hopefully this helps someone else set expectations. In hindsight, it wouldn’t stop me from going. I’m nitpicking the negative things, but those small things that rubbed me the wrong way really rubbed. The positive aspects really did shine. Don’t expect the things that I did, and I’m sure you’ll have a fabulous experience. Posted Fall 2023. Updated 4/2024 to remove irrelevant recommended dish.

We were traveling and found Gralehaus, thx Google, fantastic local spot, host was helpful, got us seated at the bar and explained how service worked. I got the Matcha French Toast. I was a bit skeptical about it. I thought with the marscapone it would be unbearably sweet, but the fresh berries balanced it out. It was rich and heavy. Very filling. SO disappointed with our experience here. The ambiance was adorable, the restaurant seemed to have so much potential and our little group was really looking forward to it! Instead, the system they have in place made absolutely no sense, we left feeling like we’d just been part of some weird bait and switch scheme and with a general feeling of confusion and frustration. When we arrived the host let us know there was a 35-45 minute wait but we were welcome to sit in their waiting area and grab a drink. Great! We walk over to the awesome looking bar area through a garden patio, sit down and start browsing the menu. As we sit there, more people come in until the waiting area is totally filled. The “bartender” (who was very nice) starts taking orders one by one and you have to pay for your drink upfront. Before you get it… So THE ENTIRE ROOM orders drinks at essentially the same time and we all realize she is simply ringing them in so that a bartender inside the restaurant can make them and then she can walk through the little garden patio to fetch them and bring them back? Mind you it appears we are sitting in a totally functional full service bar… 40 minutes goes by and not one of us has a drink. That we’ve already paid for. To allegedly drink while we waited for our table. Our turn to be seated comes and still no drinks, we sit down and no one really acknowledges this or us, welcomes us to the restaurant, tells us to go fly a kite… nothing. Our drinks get dropped off and before we can speak the server runs away again. At this point we’d been there almost an hour and decided we’d had enough so we finished our drinks and left. Here’s the thing. We get that a brunch restaurant is going to be crazy busy on a Sunday morning. Did we expect a ten minute conversation about the weather and what fun things we did the night before? Heck no. Did we expect party tricks and undivided attention the second we walked in the door? Absolutely not. BUT whatever weird system they have in place for ordering drinks was an absolute crock that made it so you couldn’t change your mind and leave once you’d ordered. To not even acknowledge that sort of delay when you’re basically advertising this “drink while you wait” service was really irritating. There could be a reason they didn’t use the waiting area bar, who knows, but a little transparency goes a long way to change the entire experience.

We loved the charming, intimate atmosphere. It’s well designed and decorated with great details. Unfortunately, the lack of service overshadowed the experience. We understand it’s counter service, but the servers and the bartender repeatedly avoided or broke eye contact while not filling waters, asking about the food, etc. It felt as though we were inconveniencing them by being there. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent. Based on the food and atmosphere alone, we would be raving. I hope to give it another try in the future.

This is a lovely German style bistro. Our lattes were excellent. The inside is small and the seats are all nestled around the open kitchen, so you can really smell when the butter hits the pan. The "ugly frittata" came with seasonal greens on top; it was filling and savory. There are step stairs to get in the front door. I didn't see if there was a wheelchair ramp. When you walk in, you receive a menu and are seated, but to order, you go back to the counter to place your order. It's cozy and fun.

Once 1 of my favorite places to come and have breakfast. It was my favorite spot because of the simplicity and the coziness of a small restaurant. Food is over priced, but I didnt ever mind paying for it. This was 1 of my escapes. Welp, today that actually came to a screeching halt. Customer service was a fail, food was a fail. They gave me bacon surrounded by fat, the egg I ordered wasn't prepared as over medium as I paid for, my drink took 15 minutes to recieve. The guy sitting next to me got his whole meal amd a drink before I even got a beverage and I ordered before he did. I complained to the server about the bacon. I asked if they could swap out the fatty bacon and it literally turned into a nightmare of excuses and poor customer service of saying we can give you your money back. I explained I didn't want a refund, I just wanted bacon vs straps of fat. The manager was rude, server was rude. I couldn't believe it. I even told then that 1 of my pieces of bacon was perfect but the other 2 werent. I found it hard to believe that I spent 34 dollars on breakfast for just my self, but was going back and forth on them not wanting to fix me 2 more pieces of bacon. I paid for bacon NOT FAT..... I told the manager that Gralehaus was one of my favorite places to come eat breakfast but I wouldn't be returning. She gives me a smirk and says, "Sorry you feel that way" and then walks off...... I WILL NEVER GO TO THAT PLACE AGAIN, AND I ADVISE YOU NOT TO VISIT EITHER. TRASH MANAGERS

Bustling brunch that teleported me back to the fatherland. Delicious food, great selection of beer and a well thought out feel only captured by true lovers of the art. Worth every penny!

We read great reviews about the Gralehaus, so headed there early on a Saturday morning. This place is sooo good that the lines are sooo long. We left, but didn't give up; went back on Monday morning. It was worth the second trip. Gralehaus is a place with character and a special staff that keeps pumping out food and friendliness. But the real reason it's so popular is the food. Our crew loved splitting The Best Damn Coffee Cake as an appetizer. Their coffee was really good - I tried the latte with sorghum: unique and tasty. My husband loved the biscuit and gravy. Two of us drooled over The Breakfast Sandwich -- which can be made gluten-free. This ain't no egg mcbiscuit. This has fluffy scrambled eggs, a special haus sauce, Southern pimento cheese, and the piece de resistance: Jake's Country Sausage (made in nearby Bardstown). [That's also why my husband loved the biscuits and gravy!] The filling sandwich was yummy until the last crumb. This place offers the best breakfast in Louisville.

A cozy and nice atmosphere where you can order fresh and unique brunch. There is a cafe that serves high quality and delicious coffee/lattes/teas for those who like the finer things in life.

One of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the restaurant has a warm, familiar feel. I've had a variety of dishes and everything was a hit. There's seating inside, streetside (porch), as well as in their courtyard (when it's nice out).

I’ve been here a few times and I love this place so much. I just wish it was open earlier for us night shift workers. My SO and I would be able to come more often if you opened at 7:30 or 8 🥺

This review is hard to write because though Gralehaus has the foundational pieces needed to be a great brunch spot in Louisville (friendly staff, character & charm, precise menu), everytime I have gone they have dropped the ball around the food served. More specifically - seasoning! I have been to Gralehaus a least twice in the past few month and the same mistakes/misteps are made during each visit. The food is never seasoned - sometimes not at all. And its never one dish - its all of them. The frittata, biscuits, burratta, grits.... everything lacks salt. Adding table salt to an cooked unsalted fritata is never a resolution. Hopfully they can fix their mishaps and become more consistent.

I rarely go out to eat breakfast because it’s typically underwhelming and over priced. Gralehaus is the opposite. After competing at the National Cyclocross championships I was looking for a hearty meal and got exactly that with Eggs & Grains. There was wholesome portion farro wonderfully seasoned with a delicious array of pickled vegetables topped with two perfectly poached eggs. It was the perfect meal to start the day especially before visiting a distillery. And for the price, something I couldn’t duplicate at home without spending a lot of time. I can’t wait to return!

The food was so good here. So glad my wife and I popped in for breakfast! Only issue was the steamer was down so no fufu coffee (the wife was sad). Definitely check it out for a good brunch.

As locals in the neighborhood, this is our go-to brunch spot and in my view has THE best brunch, drink, and coffee menus for a sit down brunch experience in Louisville. Every meal I’ve had here has been nothing short of excellent. In the summer, the outdoor patio is a lovely spot. Just be sure to get there early to avoid a wait! But if you can’t, the wait is worth it!

Went for the bed, stayed for the breakfast. The grits here were the best dish I had all trip. If you haven't checked out the BnB side of the business, do. Even for a one night staycation! The rooms are huge, much bigger than I expected with a shower I can only hope to emulate. Incredible value. Room was quiet and we didn't even notice a busy Saturday brunch crowd downstairs until we packed up to leave. Needless to say, we stayed for food!

Delicious. Enjoyed the breakfast, lattes were okay but breakfast was where it was at. Everything tasted fresh and was well made. This place is smaller so there is usually a wait list. The space is cozy and darker. Parking is street parking unless you can find space in a near by parking lot.

Ordered one breakfast sandwich to go. Waited 30 mins. Get that it’s busy rush hour, but for a breakfast to go? Get out of here. Very cute inside and food looks good.
