Food is amazing, service is friendly, and you're in and out if you need to be in 20 mins, less even if you eat fast.

Food was great. The service was nonstandard and semi self service. It's a very popular place and during lunch very busy. A good choice.

This is not soul food. Very bland food. They were out of almost all of their sides. You have to buss your own table. Plastic cutlery and paper plates. Heaping piled over trash cans at the front door. It was also in excess of 85 degrees in there

I've lived in Hattiesburg for 10 years and my greatest regret is not coming here sooner. The creamy orzo pasta was amazing.

Everything about Gratefull Soul feels like home. The owners are always there bringing positive vibes and pouring their culinary talents into each dish. I love how the menu isn’t overwhelming but something different is offered each day. Reasonably priced high quality food with a comforting vibe is what you’ll find here every time. Hattiesburg is so lucky.

First time eating soul food. First homemade fried chicken I’ve ever had! They set the bar extremely high for anything I might eat in the future. I am from the north and have never had Lima beans And bacon. I think they are my new favorite! All the staff was extremely friendly and thoughtful of our needs. Highly recommend.

I've been to GrateFull Soul multiple times now, and I have NEVER been disappointed. It's such a cozy little hide away spot with amazing food. The staff is always so happy and helpful, As soon as you enter the restaurant, you see smiles everywhere, and your ears are filled with happy chatter. The food is homemade with love and you can tell with each bite! Delicious and a wonderful place to spend your lunch time!

Southern hospitality at its best!

The location is close to William Carey, so I'm able to just hop in the car and head over for lunch. If you don't want the main dish of the day, they always have alternatives just as delicious. My favorite is the chicken orzo dish they have started to bring in. The orange fluff is good, and I always have to get the lima beans. Every plate comes with a sweet tea, which is a plus! Can't beat their style of home cooking 💕 I will say choose the roll over the cornbread 💖

Our First time at this place. Lunch was great. Exceptional food and great friendly service. The BEST PLACE for a plate lunch in Hattiesburg.

Sorry, but I have to admit that we were not at all impressed with our lunches. Portions were small, cornbread was exceptionally small and hard. Pork chop was ok but have you ever tried to eat a fried/barbecue pork chop with a plastic knife and fork?. Baked chicken portion was small and only lukewarm. I am not a fan of Styrofoam plates but that how they serve their customers. Overpriced and disappointed. Won't go back probably.

This soul food restaurant is my favorite place to eat in Hattiesburg! I go once a week when I can. You won't find more consistent quality anywhere. The service is always fantastic, and you also won't find kinder and more caring staff. The people who work there always brighten my day. The menu is easy to choose from, with many side options daily (in addition to the meat of the day and fried/herb roasted chicken). GET THE TOMATO PIE! It's wonderful. Show up earlier, and you'll have more options. Once they sell out of an item, it's gone for the day. This place is incredibly affordable for the portion size you get. The atmosphere is adorable and comfortable. Last time I ate there, I told my partner it felt like eating at my grandparents' house.

Very cool, funky atmosphere (loved the lighting made of galvanized tubs). The staff are very friendly. The food was excellent. The sweet potatoes and mac n cheese was delicious, but I especially loved the Lima beans cooked with bacon. The fried catfish was perfectly seasoned. My entree, three sides and a sweet tea was under $14. I'll definitely go back.

Wonderful lunch....lots fresh vegetables and meat

The Grateful Soul is a charming hometown cafe in downtown Hattiesburg, MS. There we enjoyed a very good country fried steak and gravy with homemade mashed potatoes and delicious blackeyed peas. Accompanying our meal was the best ice tea I've tasted in a long time topped off with just the right amount of homemade peach cobbler. If your traveling I-10 to I-20 from Mobile, AL via Mississippi, do yourself a favor and look up this place. You wont have to vary far off your path and yo¹u'll be glad you did. Warning: the menu changes daily and they close at 2 pm so give them a call.

The catfish was great. Crispy and flavorful. Loved the lima beans. The creamed collards were not my thing but others will probably love them. The adult kids had roasted chicken and it was super juicy and full of flavor. Mac cheese was really cheesy. The rolls are what I call a biscuit and they were good with butter.

For some food that you could easily mistake for your moms best southern dishes all in one place, this is where to go. The tamale casserole was perfect and tasted like a childhood dream.

Always a great choice for a good, Southern lunch. Limited menus daily, so always check what the daily meat is. Get there early, as they only cook enough for the day. Don’t forget to order dessert!

Classic blue plate lunch with a different menu everyday, always delicious from fried chicken to meatloaf with a variety of vegetables, salads and desserts. You are served by lovely people who want you to enjoy your food.

Chicken was good. Vegetables could use more seasoning. My mashed sweet potatoes were kinda cold. Cobbler wasn't good at all.

The food was first rate ordinary. My chicken casserole was delicious with interesting flavors. The black eyed peas and mac and cheese were as expected, the cornbread dry. The staff were friendly and expedient. I certainly recommend this restaurant over the many chain-brands available away from the downtown area.

I had a professor claim that this was the best tomato pie in Hattiesburg. I enjoy tomato pie and figured why not. The building is very comfortable, rather than seeming like a restaurant it feels like a southern grandmothers dining room. (Which I like). The tomato pie was very good. It was not heavy in anything, felt fairly balanced and light considering the ingredients involved. Will definitely be back and will have to order a full one in advance since they ask that you request a full one 24 hours in advance,

I ate here twice while having evacuated from New Orleans for Ida and food was delicious! Thank goodness a friend who lives here brought me. I will always come back when I’m passing through and will certainly tell everyone about it!

Homemade food. You won't regret trying this place it's amazing!

First, I literally laughed out loud at the review here that said GrateFull Soul is "for yuppies". Haven't heard that phrase since the Reagan administration and the restaurant was all blue collar when I went for lunch. Anyway, great comment and while I don't agree, I totally appreciate the laugh. GrateFull Soul was good, but not necessarily great. The Herb Roasted Chicken (which they serve everyday according to FB) was the star of the show for sure. I also had corn and black eyed peas which were both a little bland. The broccoli salad was fair. I'll get the pear salad next visit. If you've never had pear salad, it's a unique experience you should at least try once. The cornbread was average at best. Ambience is good and the wait staff was very courteous and attentive. Worth a visit for sure. Parking across the street.

Lunch was affordable, fresh and yummy! Just wish I'd gotten there early enough for the braised cabbage! And...the decor is adorable!! 👍👍

Great food, portions, and prices. Cute setup and knowledgeable staff. My only suggestion is think about using actual plates, silverware, cups, and napkins. We’ll pop in the next time we are in town. Get the peach cobbler. Do it!

Just moved back to my hometown of Hattiesburg. Wanted some soul food for lunch. After reading reviews from a couple of places, I decided on this place. The outside may not be all that, but it is very nice on the inside with about 18 tables for seating. It's Monday so I chose country fried steak over the herb crusted chicken (don't worry I'll try that to and post it). The cashier was friendly, the food came out fast, and it is soooo good! For sides I had braised cabbage, lima beans w/bacon and cornbread. It was very delicious and not overly salty! Going back tomorrow for the fried chicken!

The best lunch in Hattiesburg! I’ve tried everything they offer to eat. It reminds me of growing up in the delta and enjoying my families home cooked food ☺️ And you can’t beat the atmosphere and supporting a local business!!

Small, family owned restaurant with amazing home cooking! Herb roasted chicken, cheesy chicken orzo, broccoli salad, sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas and blueberry cobbler for dessert! You won't find a better gem in downtown Hattiesburg! I always try to find a way to visit when I am in the area!

My Daughter and I go downtown to GrateFull Soul from time to time when we're in the mood for homecooking. We've never been let down. On Sundays after church even, it's a pleasant experience with friendly service and delicious food at a very reasonable price. If you're looking for home-style, this is your place.

This is a great lunch spot downtown. They also will rent out the space and cater any special event you may need to plan. Food is great. If it's your first time going get the tomato pie, trust me.

Nice place downtown with a good blue plate for lunch. I had angus beef meatloaf, mashed potatoes, Lima beans and corn bread. There were a choice of three meats and about 10 vegetables. I recommend.
