This spot was probably the most amazing Cuban restaurant I’ve ever been too. The pernil Cuban sandwich was amazing the live music was great and so was the customer service I will be returning here the next time I visit NYC

The food was good but the portion sizes were incredibly small for the prices.

Wir waren an einem Samstag Abend dort. Leider keine Live Musik, dafür sehr laute Musik vom Band, Salsa Musik. Eine Unterhaltung fast unmöglich. Dämmerbeleuchtung, die Karte kann man mit sehr guten Augen gerade so noch lesen, das Essen auch gerade noch sehen. Die Bedienung war sehr nett, das Essen lecker kubanisch, Preise moderat. Die Bedienung spricht KEIN Spanisch!!

This place was a disappointment in several ways. It advertises live music 8:30 to 12, but they played 20 minutes at 8:30 and never returned. The singer was too busy drinking and socializing with what appeared to be employees or regulars. On the food side, the chorizo was soaked in a BBQ sauce; a terrible preparation. The grilled squid was basically 6 pieces for $18. The paella was worse; it was supposed to be seafood, but was primarily big rubbery squid, 10-15 of them, and only 2-3 shrimp. Would not go back.

I've gotta say I love NYC for food.But this place and its atmosphere was absolutely the best experience that i've had for just a little whole in the wall restaurant.

WEED SMELLY RESTAURANT! My friends and I had an early dinner here and it was HORRIBLE!!!. The yellow plantain were spoiled/over ripe just disgusting, the yellow rice and shrimp looked redish and tasted like paper, no flavor at all. There were about 3 halves of shrimp which felt like pieces of rubber band with no flavor. The food was so hot, It was weird because it remained hot for over an hour! No one likes cold food but that was over heated in a microwave! The prices were ridiculous even for Manhattan! Please do not waste your time or money! In addition, there was no live music and this was a Saturday night!! While walking out the door, there were a group of people blocking our way that were rolling "joints" and smoking! I enjoy plain air! NEVER AGAIN!

I had the shrimp in garlic sauce. Delicious! So much flavor, not salty. Great portion, perfect before a night on the town. There's no need to worry about a doggy bag!

Four Times in a week for lunch/dinner and everything was really good, stunning mojitos, service is excellent, my wife is Cuban and she loved every dish. Next time in NY is my food destination.

We were looking for anyplace near our hotel that was still serving dinner at 1030 on a Thursday night. So glad we found this spot. There was great live music and we had excellent apps, steak and dessert. Friendly staff and good vibes. Recommended.

This place has changed over the last few years. I would come here at least twice a month. The service was not good at all. The waiter seemed to have an attitude and just wanted to rush everything. Basically, get you in and get you out as quick as possible. The food was ok not great. Seems like a typical tourist trap. The entertainment was subpar, they played for 20 minutes and took a break. Maybe they ran out of songs to play. Won’t go back.

Guantanamera is an experience, plain and simple. Live music seven days a week, amazing food, drinks, atmosphere and service. A family-owned establishment that takes great pride in what it offers and is always a welcoming environment. Food: Their Chef is by far one of the stars of the business. They give great portions for the price and have knocked every dish I have tried right out of the park. I'm a carnivore through and through but I make it a mission to order the mixed vegetables every time I stop by, it is so fresh and delicious it makes the mouth water. Drinks: Mojito Tuesdays, Margarita Wednesdays and Sangria Thursdays. All day long, $6.50 each. Aside from being a great deal, they are absolutely amazing and some of the best Sangria I've had. Staff: I had the pleasure of meeting both Cassia, the GM and Mario the owner. Kind, hardworking people who take pride in providing an out of the world experience to their patrons and they masterfully succeed. Juan, our server, was a gentleman and only added to an outstanding meal & experience. Overall, 11/10. This is an absolute gem that has me coming back again and again.

Gosh, I just want to thank the staff and owner of this restaurant for an amazing birthday dinner for my daughter. We were there about three weeks ago, and she's still raving about the food and the entertainment. You definitely must visit!

Good authentic Cuban restaurant with live music for a good price.

Their mojito was the best thing I had during my 6 day NYC stay.

Awesome food. Ordered breaded chicken.. Amazing!! But GOODNESS can I put my plate down before being asked if I was done. A older gentleman is just above you watching you eat as if we being timed to finish, Annoying!!

The food was pretty decent, however the portion sizes were incredibly small for the prices. I ordered a streak with onions, and the dish was mostly onions with maybe 4 oz of steak for 32$. I left hungry after an appetizer and a main course, however the drinks were good.

We went to Guantanamera on a Saturday night. The food was great (especially the yellow rice with chicken), the music and atmosphere were awesome and we had a great time!

Visiting NYC from California, we did a bit of research on restaurants to complement our Broadway shows. This one was a dud. Food was uninspired (boring) and not flavorful. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things. Drinks were OK. Atmosphere was fair, basically a small sports bar with a stage in the back. Live and loud music. Not our favorite.

Very kind waiters and quick service! Overall, enjoyed it and I’d be willing to come back for another try (some of the skillet dishes looked good). However, I was disappointed by my $27 extremely simple grilled chicken and salad— I had expected more, but it still tasted good (really nothing special though. I recommend ordering something else). The restaurant does get quite loud and the seating in some areas is a little tight. Would recommend a booking in advance to be safe.

Could not recommend this place enough! The food was amazing (particularly the paella, steak and sea bass), the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the prices were so reasonable for how much food we had. Love music and a bit of dancing was a perfect way to spend an evening!

Unprofessional The evening started out well until a large group of finance Bros walked in. They immediately started making chants and being loud. No one told them anything so they continued to get more confident. It got to the point where one of the guys decided to jump on the congo drums and started disrupting the musicians from playing. Once again no one told this group anything. So another guy tried to jump in as well to the point that the female singer had to tell the guys to get off the stage. I had to back her up and yell at the guys because they were in a group of about 20 so they didn't care. The group continued to jump on stage and disrespectfully started banging on the drums. Another guy grabbed the mic and started yelling. The manager (female blonde) only stepped in after I had to tell the guys to cut it out. The manager then comes over to me and tells me that this is not that kind of restaurant and she's got it under control. I responded with she's unprofessional and had let this go on too long. She then responded with they are spending a lot of money. I then told her she's not from this country or culture and this had reached to a level of disrespect that is unforgiving. She then asked me to leave but never bothered to tell the group of men to leave. The whole restaurant was on my side applauding and backing me up when I told the guys to cut it out. Even the other employees did not bother to bring me my check until I asked for it. The singer also thanked me for helping out and the employees all apologized except for the manager. I am really bothered by this experience because it definitely has undertones of prejudice/racism. I strongly feel if the manager was not a white lady and the guys were a table of non white men that this would have played out very differently. How would the manager have more compassion for that one table but not the rest of the restaurant. Unless they come there often and slip her extra cash for allowing them to be crazy. Either way I will never support this establishment or any other establishments that Ramon Mario Zarate, Ewelina Sylvia Klopocka and Marcos Javier Stoart own. These owners should be ashamed of the kind of business they are running in a city where people work really hard to spend good money to enjoy themselves. Especially in these difficult financial times.

We showed up for dinner a little late around 8 PM. Anthony was our server and he was fantastic! I had the chicken Guantanamera, which did not disappoint whatsoever. Lucky for me my wife got the Cuban sandwich which she ate half of and which I the other half of, that never disappoints. The margaritas were delicious and very reasonably priced and it is a restaurant in New York City that I will visit whenever I’m in town. oh and they had live music on Wednesday night a trio, and they were fantastic!

The food here was good. Drinks were strong, i had the guava mojito. I had the 3 leches for dessert and i will say it was not good, deeply soaked in too much milk. For dinner i had the ropa vieja and it was delicious!

We had delicious Cuban food made the authentic way, plus nice welcoming staff and a warm atmosphere. We ordered thin traditional Cuban steak and pollo Guagira and we loved them both. The steak comes with a generous amount of caramelized onions that were nicely seasoned, and the chicken comes with several vegetable ingredients, pepper, mushrooms, plantain, etc., a good healthy choice. Make sure to try their mojitos, they were special. I also tried Cuban style beer for the first time that was so good. It was easy to find a table (on a Saturday) and the staff were very attentive and helpful. I recommend this restaurant.

This place was great!! There were four of us: shared two small appetizers, each person a main dish, shared two small desserts, each person had two adult beverages..... total for each after tip: $100. We were looking for a place to go after the taping of the Colbert show... found it on Google and decided to try it for the first time. We were NOT disappointed!! I cannot remember the names of the dishes, I do apologize... but we had oxtail, chicken, shrimp, and salmon as our mains, and EVERYONE was completely satisfied. I asked our server what his favorite dishes were, and he gave me two options (I often have difficulties choosing what to eat). Ultimately, I asked him to pick whatever he wanted for me and for it to be a surprise.... that oxtail, y'all!! 10/10 would recommend!

It was a great authentic great cuban food experience. It is as good as my mom’s cuban food. The atmosphere and the music were great. Highly recommended and will return to fill my cuban food cravings.

The service wasn't not particularly attentive. However, the food was quite good.

Food is good here, the portion sizes are fine, I feel some will say the portion sizes are too small.....but, that's just us being gluttons. The coconut mojito is great, it's refreshing and taste great. Normally they will have a guy rolling cigars in the front and a live band in the back. If your in the city and you want to feel like Hemingway,then I would say try this place out. Vegetarian paella is good, so for those veggie heads don't be scared with the overabundance of assortments of meats. I like this place and the staff is friendly and very welcoming. I put this in the "show some love" it's the Brooklyn way category....yes I'm aware this place is in the city but you understand what I'm saying

Beautiful vibes, all the tables were enjoying themselves, quite rare in the NYC dining scene. Thank you to the extremely talented singer Danae Blanco with a performance extraordinary. It was a very memorable night indeed. I felt transported in Cuba.

I researched our food choices when planning our trip to NYC and Guantanamera made the cut ... boy was I right. We had an early dinner before a show so it was still quiet but was starting to fill up and the atmosphere was building. The food was amazing as were the staff. The pitcher of mojitos was a must.

I found this spot whilst walking around NYC, it was always my plan to have Cuban food on my viist but had not preplanned where to go. So when my online search suggested here and the reviews confirmed it as a great spot, I just had to go. The food was amazingly delicious, I had the tilapia in a lemon sauce, with rice and beans. I was in food heaven, I will most definitely go back when next in NY and I highly recommend this restaurant. The service was also very good, I didnt feel rushed or out of place being solo. I have now recommended this place to all of my friends who lives in NY.

Fun place for a group! Live music, great food and drinks

Fun pleasant atmosphere. Live band started around 8:30. They were great. Food was very good. Had the Empanadas, Ropa Vieja, Paella Marinera, Frijoles Negros and Banana and guava bread pudding washed down with some drinks. Particularily enjoyed the Guantanamera Mule. Wow, all was delicious and large servings. Staff was fantastic and looked like they enjoyed taking care of us. Good night had by all. Thanks

We celebrated my birthday at the restaurant last friday. It's was amazing, good & warm service, great food and nice atmosphere. The staff and musicians gave us an unforgettable evening. Especially Cassia Christine made us feel really welcome ! We will definitely come back again!

Just spent long weekend in Manhattan and this was our favorite dinner spot. Really fun, loud and lively! Food was tasty. Will definitely go back next time.

Good food and amazing place to have fun!

We loved this place, but they kinda forgot us for awhile so it took our food an hour to come out. Our server got our drinks and appetizer so fast, then he disappeared and someone else finally came and took our order and gave us water. But they were all very friendly and it was a very fun place with great food. Loved the garlic chicken and def get a side of maduros! So, so good. Chicken was fall apart tender and garlic sauce was outstanding. My boyfriend loved his meal tool, ground beef with an egg on it. Delicious mojito too! One caveat- it's VERY loud. We loved that, the live music was wonderful. But even before the music it was very loud music they played in the restaurant. It was fun, but be prepared for noise. Enjoy!

What a lovely experience! Make sure to book if you want to try this place. It was crowded, loud and friendly. We went on an evening with live music which was great. If anyone in your party has trouble with loud noises or a lot of mixed noise they may want to consider bringing ear loops. The food is fab, and the portions are very generous!

The food is always good!!!! I gave service a 3 because my guest felt rushed by the wait staff to finish and leave. Three different wait persons came to remove his plate, but he wasn't done eating. I gave the atmosphere a 3 because as I was dining, two children began yelling out (enough to be disruptive), but their parent thought it was cute as opposed to what it really was, disruptive. I've been here several times, and this is the first time any of this has happened.

Small unassuming place you would probably walk by but please don't. Very friendly staff, great food and strong drinks. Do yourself a favor and order the maduros.

The live Cuban trio was fun, if loud. The black beans met all expectations, the skirt steak was tender and lovely, the salmon was fine--the peppers and onions surrounding the salmon were great. The whiskey sours were on point and very good. Great little spot north of the theater district. Definitely recommended.

I expected more Spanish music at a Spanish restaurant that offered live music

I was attracted by Cuban food and culture. The lighting in the place is poor, it really seems like you are in Guantánamo in a blackout lit by a lamp, but maybe it is the experience they want to reproduce. We only ordered one starter, chicken croquettes. They were not exceptionally good but not bad either, the dough lacked softness. I didn't get to order dinner so I can't evaluate the food. Very good attention. A little noisy and tables very close together...

Maybe I'm not that in to Cuban food, but it was still worth it. Dessert was very good! The atmosphere was second to none! Friendly service, guests spontaniously dancing, great live music! Drinks were super well mixed. The mocktails for my daughter was delicious.

Fun, lively spot with a live band. Somehow got a table on Friday night. Sea bass, chicken, yuca fries, papas rellenas, and beans were great. Tres leches was awesome. Was limited for vegetarians, but we expected it. The veggie paella was full of veggies which my husband liked but wasn’t as rich as the other foods. Super awesome staff!

Another place we found almost by accident. Was raining like crazy last week and we needed dinner but didn’t want to venture far. I had spotted their sign earlier in the day and with the weather as poor as it was, we knew we could get a table. Was busier than expected, but we got a cozy little table. Has one of those crazy multi page menus that make choosing a chore. We had the masitas de puerco (I think) and the bistec encebollado, my wife swears they were the best sautéed onions she’s ever had. Our waiter was great and honestly we were impressed enough to bring our friends back the following day for lunch. Sadly we missed out on the live music, but overall a neat place and worth a visit.

THIS PLACE IS A MUST!!! I went here last night with my husband and in-laws. We had an AMAZING time, from the food the music, the ambiance. We also met the owner he made us feel so welcomed, he made sure we tried nearly everything on the menu. He came around multiple times to check up on us. I’ve never had an experience like this before. Highly recommend going here. If you’re looking for a good time and great food. FYI: This was my first time at a Cuban Restaurant but definitely will not be my last.

Food is definitely overpriced but it’s good and the environment is always festive.

Hmm - don’t go without an appetite. However, the food was so so - chicken overcooked. Fried plantain was good. Live music on certain days so if you want to talk make sure you get a table closer to front door otherwise feel free to merengue with the band starts up. The pizza place next door offered better value.

Absolutely delicious food! I had the chicken and rice dish and I loved that the chicken was shredded and mixed into the rice. Not over salted, perfectly seasoned. My toddler enjoyed it too! The empanada appetizer was delicious as well!

From the moment you step inside the restaurant you feel transformed to another country. The service was amazing, they were so attentive to our table and asking how the food was. We loved the empanadas and the fried yucca app :). My chimichurri steak was the best I’ve ever had of this type! The seasoning and the chimichurri itself was yum!!! My mom said her panella was good but not the best she has even had. We are so glad we came here for dinner and there was just so much good flavor!

Ropa vieja was amazing as was the Arroz con pollo. No wait for a table, quick friendly service. Highly recommended.

I truly, truly LOVE this place, BUT during the live music part of the evening, it made it very difficult to place food orders, and they had no virgin pina coladas. I would've definitely spent more money if they served virgin pina coladas since im pregnant and can't have liquor.

Had the Cuban Sandwich lunch special. Tasted good, but was almost comically small. Not worth 16 dollars. The server, who was very nice and friendly, forgot the soda that was supposed to come with the lunch. Dessert (Tres Leches) was ok and pricey, but nothing special.

This excellent Cuban restaurant located on 8th Ave in a very good area of Midtown has a relaxed, pleasant, and cheerful atmosphere at all times. Latino, as it should be. The service of all the staff is truly outstanding, as well as the presence of Mario, the owner who is always attentive to everything being perfect, and indeed it is! The food is also noteworthy. I recommend the "calamares fritos" as an appetizer and the "arroz con camarones" as a main course. Everything is exquisite. They also have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages. There is live entertainment with genuine Latin music. Some even took the opportunity to dance! In summary, a different place in NYC, with very good food, excellent service, and a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere to enjoy.

I could easily see this being someone's favorite place but it wasn't mine. The staff was so friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy as hell. Unfortunately, it was too loud for me. The live music was great but I couldn't hear anything and couldn't be heard by my partner . The food we got was almost great, but not quite. Too buttery yucas for me to enjoy, and too greasy plantains. They were tasty but I took a bite and no more because I knew I'd feel sick if I ate more. The Tuesday mojito deal was unreal good. If you're looking for drinks, this place is a steal.

Went here after a Broadway show at 11pm and it was so fun! Music is fantastic! Food is delicious- had a pernil sandwich and tasted like my mom’s! Mojitos are amazing! Just a fun place!

First time here. We felt like family!! Warm inviting atmosphere . The manager Cassia Christine Oliveira was a gracious host and made sure we had an amazing experience . We will be back to share this with our friends . A one of a kind experience in New York. Worth a try!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. We chose it for the location near the theater district, but away from the touristy areas. The prices were reasonable and the food was tasty. It was a bit crowded, but the service was fantastic.
