Good place to stop by for Chinese food, ordered the duck and was a tasty and tender, chicken feet was good, while calamari had too much flour. Overall if you’re looking for Chinese food, good place to try.

Fantastic Chinese food place. My Chinese friends go here all the time so you know it's good. Great prices, big portions, unique flavors, big tables, and menu with pictures for a white guy like me :)

Definitely one of the best chinese restaurants in portland. The staple take out dishes are all on point- beef and chicken velveted and tender, regional flovors are well represented and spicey dishes are spicey. Prices are also reasonable- reminds me of good 90s dinners I had with family. 100% recommend.

Wow- the flavor it is by plate! So I would say do it family styles. The oysters were specifically bousted with flavor. The duck taro- fabulous! A pdx must try!

Poor food quality. There were clumps of curry in the Singapore noodles with very limited veg and protein; spring rolls were tasteless, and Szechuan shrimp was more broccoli florets and chunks of celery.

The dim sum was still frozen. We didn’t even get proper tableware. But they charge top price. They gave up. I’d pass.

My sister took me to this place and I was a bit worried I wasn't going to like it but everything was great.

Hello Portland, my family and I went to this restaurant Sunday night. When we walked in, we kindly spoke and said hello, and the cashier just looked at us like we were dirt. He Was very short didn’t seem to care to take our order. We chopped it up to a bad night, and we decided not to sit and eat, instead to take food to go. I always drive by this place and wanted to try it out but after the type of service we got, I would never go there again and honestly I’m upset that I just didn’t ask for my money back and left the food. There was nothing beefy about the beef and broccoli, crab puffs and egg-rolls tasted like It was fried in burnt oil. When we asked for soy sauce, the server said “the food is already salty and we don’t need it,” after a little back-and-forth he only gave us two small little containers. We asked for hot sauce the server with a fast response, and not even checking, said in an annoyed pitch voice that he was out. We ordered $70 worth of food and it was trash. Service was trash. I will not be returning. I give this place, overall no stars, but in order to submit I had to put one. I hope that I can save someone else’s time and money in the future. I don’t normally take the time to write reviews, and let’s face it service is not what it used to be, but this one took the cake.

The food and the choices were absolutely top notch. This is the type of place that I wish was in my neighborhood so I could come here weekly and try something new. I posted photos of the bathroom because they were a little bit odd and weird but don't let that sway you on how good this place was. An absolute treat.

Enjoyed a mighty fine Peking duck for Thanksgiving this year! 10/10 will be back next time I need to scratch the itch. Thanks the Happy Dragon team for a great evening!

I wanted to love Happy Dragon. I liked it, but I didn't love it. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and have Peking Duck which is our favorite dish. On the plus side, we were seated immediately and the service was very good. Our appetizers, hot & sour soup and fried dumplings were both excellent (and the $11 bowl of soup could have fed 6-8 people, we took most of it home). The Szechuan string beans with pork were also good (not overcooked and tasty). The duck was also good and it was presented in an elegant duck shaped dish, but it was served with Styrofoam buns (yuk!) instead of tortilla-like pancakes and the hoisin sauce was runny and not that tasty. We also didn't like that they cut half the meat off the duck and served it up stir fried (I think) as a separate dish. They could remedy these problems, but I think this is the way they like to serve it.

Food, excellent, Service excellent, atmosphere austere - but that's okay. We randomly chose to eat at Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant. This is a truly asian restaurant - the waiter wrote out the order in Chinese. The specials on the board were in Chinese. I Google Translated the specials. Not my cup of tea, but they were indeed delicacies I am sure. The menu was very large, but we stuck to the tried and true American Chinese dishes. The Pot Stickers were fresh and homemade. I think the noodle dish is Cashew Nut Chicken. The one with walnuts is Honey Walnut Shrimp. DELICIOUS! The walnuts were whole, large, fresh and crunchy. The dish tasted clean and fresh. I highly recommend it. The place is unassuming on 82nd, but I would recommend it to any true asian fan.

Steady decline since COVID. Lunch specials, food quality and value used to be great. Now lunch no longer exists, every entree is $18 and the quality is way down. Spent $103 yesterday for super mediocre food. Salt and pepper squid was amazing, now is not edible. That will be my last meal here.

This place must be doing something other than food, I don’t understand. Not even sure if there was chicken in the orange chicken. Pot stickers were okay. Super weird.

The food is excellent. The service is a bit above average. The atmosphere, how does one say, minimalistic? If I want actual Chinese food, this is my go-to. I give five stars because the atmosphere isn't that important when the food is most excellent.

I got orange chicken to go and the chicken pieces were more crumbly deep-fried batter than chicken, and the bites that did have chicken were dehydrated, hard as a rock. Terrible, won't be going there again.

Happy Dragon provided us with a nice, old-school dining experience that took me back to my childhood. A friend had discovered this place on a lunch hour exploration, and suggested it for a family style dinner destination. Each of the four of us chose an entree, (Mandarin Beef, Sautéed Green Beans, Kung Pao Chicken, and a black fungus, snow pea and yam veggie plate) and we piled on the unsurprising extras of an appetizer combo, a huge shared bowl of hot and sour soup, and rice. Service was super-quick - my friend had arrived first, and put in the order for the appetizer combo before we arrived. By the time we were putting in the order for everything else, the appetizers were arriving, and everything else began showing up before we finished the appetizers.

We ate at the 82nd street location on Sunday 1/22/2023. Based on the good reviews we decided to try Happy Dragon for the Peking Duck. There were 4 of us. We made a reservation the day before because the website recommended doing so since they only prepare a set amount of duck. I also called same day to confirm. We arrived at 6PM and they took our order. Happy Dragon did not serve any food to us until 7PM. After waiting for 25 minutes, we began asking when our meal would be served, even the simple appetizer order of fried dumplings. The server stated, and with a straight face, that they had a very large party in the next room so we would not have any food for at least 20-25 more minutes. It wasn't until about 6:50 PM that we told them if they didn't bring out our order we would be leaving. The food showed up about 10 min later. During this time, two other parties just got up and left tired of waiting for their food. What kind of quality restaurant does something like this? Why didn't they tell me that day when I confirmed the reservation that they had a large party and service would be slow? Happy Dragon's total disregard for the customer is very sad. Transparency is completely lacking. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone.

ordered pickup on x-mas eve...still waited a half hour at the store before food was ready. so if youre thinking the same, beware...they get swamped. people behind the counter were friendly. food was tasty and good value, just not as spicy as i was hoping for (general tzos chicken). would go back to try more of the menu.

Gave happy dragon a try after our favorite spot was closed. Everything was very good.

Went here for Christmas Eve dinner with a group of 7 and we loved it. Every dish we had was delicious and the service was outstanding. Kept our tea fresh and hot and the plates kept coming. Impressive for a busy Christmas Eve. The Szechuan beef dish was a hit in our group (even though it wasn't my favorite) with the tingly spices giving a few of our group a natural high. I loved the lobster, shrimp, and Peking duck though I'd be remiss not to mention the crab Rangoon and pork appetizers. The green beans were cooked perfectly. Sorry I can't be more specific on the names of the dishes - others did the ordering and I enjoyed the ride!

Used to have good food three years ago. Seem to have went downhill in the last few years. Maybe new management or chefs. Meat dishes are okay, but anything with vegetables I would not recommend. If you're looking for greesy deep-fried meat, you might be fine.

Food is still okay, but I think it isn't as good as it was a year ago. Selection is limited now. They don't make the crispy chicken any longer. It is sad because this is one of the few chinese places we go to. We might have to consider other places.

The food was okay, and the service was so so. We thought they would serve dim sum on Sunday, but I was wrong. They had only Hai Gow, and that was it. We were hungry and there was no line. Btw, don’t expect for great ambiance atmosphere.

General to was delicious. Crispy and great sauce. Cashew nut chicken, light and flavorful, veg was cooked perfectly. Kung pao chicken, big portion, GREAT Flavor and the heat was a nice low burn. Appetizer platter was all done well, no complaints. Give the place a try if you enjoy Chinese food.

Delicious Authentic Cantonese food, tofu with cod pot is our favorite.

I recently had my first Peking duck at Hakksan in Las Vegas. A stunning $92 duck for two. Weeks later I’m back in Portland and we try the duck here. It was absolutely comparable to the Hakkasan duck. Absolutely. The second duck course was even BETTER than hakkasans. Already excited to come back.

I came here to get Peking Duck 2-courses because I read somewhere that this place has good ones. However it was a bit disappointing with the portion ($50). We might come back to try their dimsum one day.

It's an authentic Chinese restaurant. I LOVE their stir fried Lobster with golden egg pasta. I bought this one every time I stopped by Portland. It's the only place I can eat this dish in US. Definitely come here if you are a real Chinese foodie.

Had a wonderful lunch in a quiet atmosphere with of course plenty to take home for dinner as well.

I drive over an hour to come eat here! They used to have another location in Independence and it became a regular dinner spot for my family. When they had to close the location we were so upset and I still miss them everyday. Twice in the last week I’ve stopped here and I’ll make sure to stop by anytime I’m in Portland but I will make the two and a half hour round trip drive for this Chinese food. I love the Mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, green bean chicken, broccoli beef, egg rolls, egg flower soup, Peking duck, sweet and sour, Szechuan chicken. It’s all so good! I think I could order literally anything and it would be amazing. You have to give them a try!

I've heard several people recommend this place and I'm glad I went. The food tasted great. The portions were huge. They were so quick that my takeout was ready before I arrived.

The outside may look a bit run down, but the food is some of the most authentic Chinese as well as best American Chinese (General Tao, Sweet and Sour Pork, etc) this place has a massive menu, caters to allergies (I am severely allergic to shellfish and they are always able to make things that have oyster sauce without, and it’s just as delicious) highly recommend for those looking for a better take-out option or truly authentic Chinese - try the chicken feet, they’re phenomenal.

I highly recommend this place for the Peking duck! It was hands down the best fowl I've ever had ! The whole meal was decision including the homemade mango pudding! The customer service was prompt, friendly and we will definitely be back and often ! New favorite go too! Kudos to the Staff!

Stopped there today and had the Shrimp appetizer and Mongolian beef and Curry beef. The food was excellent. The fried shrimp appetizer was The Best Fried Shrimp I have ever had anywhere hands down. Not only was it delicious but it was full of shrimp. The pastry was fresh and delicious. The food was so good I ate it before I could take a picture of it.

My son and I had a great dinner tonight. I arrived at the restaurant, paid for our entrees, and within 2 minutes I was leaving with our food. The cashier that took our order and settled the check was very friendly! My Beef and Broccoli was excellent. Lots of beef with nice fresh & flavorful broccoli and carrots. My son's Orange Chicken was made with a real Orange and appeared to not have any artificial coloring. He loved it! My only criticism is that the restaurant itself was a bit of a mess (hopefully re-working in anticipation of in-person dining again). We will definitely return!

When Wong kings closed, I was so sad, I looked up something closed to what Wong kings served and found this place. I really love their seafood fried rice. Their chicken feet is great as well as wonton soup.

My husband and I just bought a new home and our plan was to order Chinese take our for our first meal. We were very impressed by the food, particularly the chicken with black bean sauce! Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful. We will definitely order from them again

Son sent gift certificate for his Dad’s birthday, basically for their Peking Duck. Wow, so happy with the duck, buns, sauce, etc. Also special fried rice and their sweet and sour chicken. We will return! Thank you everyone at Happy Dragon!💗

Decent Chinese food but I’ll change my rating to 5 stars when they don’t charge $2 for white rice when you order a dish that should already obviously come with it

On the inside is almost elegant but couldn't tell by the neighborhood around it. Its empty everytime I go or drive past.

This place is great. High quality food. You can pick your duck. Convenient location near 82nd and Glisan. I like to get beef lo mein and General Tsao chicken. I don't know what else they serve here. Oh yeah, they have can puffs too. The cola is good. They will bring you forks if you don't do chopsticks and you are too embarassed to eat with your hands. Don't worry if the price seems high, the portions are large to share. Sometimes I will buy two items and eat on them for many meals at home and work. I recommend everyone eat st Happy Dragon.

I've been to this location several time before it was Happy Dragon. So my first visit went all wrong because I order the wrong stuff. This time, I did it right. Instead of cooking a big honking turkey for Thanksgiving this year, we made the inspired decision to go here and eat Peking duck two ways. And now my mouth waters thinking of when I get to go again. Not too soon. That's just bad form. But what a shame it would be if I waited too long. We also had the steamed live fish. It was good enough. My wife though it was really good. West lake beef soup is always a crowd pleaser. And the other dishes were okay. Service was also good for a busy day. Five stars for the duck. Four for everything else.

Great food everthing is scratch made no 30 secon microwave and it served family style your hot tea is made from real tea leafs..the only down is the custumer service is not that great
