A small, clean sushi house offering a friendly staff and DELICIOUS sushi. We had the Hawaiian Roll (highly recommend) and a wonderful, slightly spicy French Kiss roll.

Let's start off with the waiter that has a hard time with English. Next, it was a while before they took our order. The sitting area where we were was behind the kitchen and looked like a narrow corridor with 3 tables sandwiched in. I sat with my back against the fridge. Hand rolls had a pile of salmon - I've never seen so much of it in a single roll, so much that the whole thing didn't taste good. Alaska, Philly, and California rolls were a mass of rice that fell apart as soon as I grabbed it with chopsticks. The rice wasn't sticky. It's probably one of the saddest sushi places I've been to. I am not sure how this place gets good reviews.

The owner is a Sterling man who makes sure every customer gets the best there is! No other place in town comes close, seriously...

Probably about as close to the feel of an izakaya as we're going to get. Amazing food, fast service, really cool chef.

Don't let the size of the place fool ya. Yoshi(sp) is a master of his craft. Portions are worth every cent. The place is usually busy so get in at dinner open or you'll be in a long line. Always smiles from the staff no matter the busy atmosphere. I cannot find a pedestal tall enough to put Happy Sushi on.

The best Egg Rolls in Springfield! So yummy! Really enjoyed the Hawaiian roll. Huge roll with lots of fish! Really yummy. Ill be back!

Not really surprised to hear this business is doing poorly. I went in person to this tiny little shop, ordered to go and just tossed the order. Waste of 40$! Look at how rotten this tuna is? Not sure how anyone in their right mind would serve this. Save your $$$ go somewhere else! Not worth the time or money.

Omfg, absolutely amazing! Amazing little hole in the wall. We went for our 9th yr anniversary and we were not disappointed. Food was delicious, everyone was polite and professional. Having visited Japan last May and craving some truly authentic and good sushi, I'm glad I found Happy Sushi. It's truly the best in Springfield!

If you read my reviews, you know I’m into sushi. This is by far my favorite place to get sushi in Springfield. It definitely has that hole in the wall vibe, but the sushi is divine. Also try the heart attack jalapeño appetizer. That was surprisingly really good.

Amazing food! So ridiculously flavorful. Made to order so be patient. This is the best sushi in Springfield, anger management and 10 10 are my favorites. Best ramen in Springfield. Best Udon in Springfield. Best Japanese food in Springfield! This is the kind of place you can close your eyes and point and you'll be happy happy happy!

Closed during "open" dinner hours. Food might be good as there were about ten others who walked up and left in about a five minute span.

Definitely have the best sushi I've had in central illinois. Somewhat expensive but the portions more than make up. Freshest sushi I've had since being in japan. Will be back for more.

Happy Sushi is by far the best sushi in the Springfield area! It’s always fresh and delicious. We’ve never had a bad roll from there. Make sure to call before ordering/going in to make sure they’re open. Some of our favorite rolls are: Anger Management, 10.10, Spicy Crunch, and French Kiss.

We were immediately served. The food was surprisingly pleasant. Both the owner and server were extremely nice.

Best sushi in Springfield. They've been known to have inconsistent hours, but it's always a treat when they're open. Hiro's specialty rolls are almost twice the size as any other restaurant for the same price.

Amazing fried rice, it was so complex, unique and flavorful, we had the chicken fried rice. Also had the French kiss roll, delicious but too big to pick up with chopsticks, they would fall apart. Not complaining about the portion. I'd love to try more things!

This is my second time. Great delicious food. Had udon noodles, ramen. Ramen is amazing. Tuna dn salmon sushi tools are perfect Chef is great and very hard working. Staff is friendly. Limited seating availability. I recommend this place if you visit Springfield or want delicious food. Very affordable.

Been here a few times, & each time the sushi was still partially frozen. The old sushi chef was angry & yelled at his staff. Not worth going to.

Happy Sushi is easily the best sushi place in Springfield. The portions are large, especially sushi and sashimi, the hot dishes are perfectly prepared and tasty (e.g., the teriyaki not too sweet like many places), and the owner and sushi chef cheerful (usually) and welcoming. There is a place to sit and dine in, but nothing fancy. I think the bread and butter here is carry out, which is what I usually do. When I order sashimi (my go-to order), I swear I'm getting half the tuna loin, with salmon, white tuna, and yellowtail. It's amazing! I don't often order rolls, but when I do, the art is so pretty you hardly want to eat them (but, of course, I do). I often order California rolls for my wife, and they are big, always fresh, and made to order. The only downside, and the reason for my rating of 4 instead of 5 is the inconsistency of being open. I've driven there when in Springfield with a watering mouth, only to find a sign on the door, with notice that he's taken a week (or more) off. That said, when he's open, Happy Sushi is the best in Springfield.

The menu was a little bit misleading, I thought I was ordering stir fried udon noodles, but it was actually soup. However, the vegetable broth was excellent, and the vegetables were extremely fresh. The Philadelphia Roll and the French Kiss rolls were good! The presentation of the sushi minus the tail being left on the shrimp was great. The staff was very friendly.

I’ve always been a fan of sushi, but I didn’t know good sushi (outside of cultural urban centers) until I ate at Happy Sushi. The fish is fresh, the Presentation is amazing, and the combination of flavors is beyond outstanding. Authentic and fast — and was surprised by the chef with a free roll to share at our table: something not yet on the menu! Springfield has little in the way of genuinely good sushi. Why nobody is answering that phone and they open

Hole-in-the-wall amazing sushi. Owner gets overwhelmed with orders so make sure to place order ahead of time or get there when they open! Left roll is French Kiss (the best), right is the Yammay (good for cream cheese lovers), the flaming one was Man On Fire (good for spicy lovers)

The sushi is really good, by far the best in town. The owner is a great guy too. But they are never open and when they are, their hours are so unpredictable. There was a sign on the front door that said they would be reopening on 12/31, but they are still closed as of 1/19.

Good, generous cuts of fish, fresh, and well made. Was happy to find a place that holds up even against fancy big city sushi places having just moved to Springfield. Our newest go to sushi place. Still holds up, great fish (for the Midwest, but still great). Sometimes the phone doesn't work, and they'll take vacations but it's obviously a mom n pop operation so they deserve a break.

To start off, I would give this place a 5 star, if the floor wasn't sticky, the manager/owner was actually nicer, the food wasn't so expensive and if they offered outside seating. For the price we paid, other places in town offer a much better service and overall experience. The food seemed ok, but with how fast it was made, it seemed like they didn't have enough time to chill the sushi.

Theyre not always open but they consistently come back and reopen so keep an eye out. The "anger managenment" is great for beginers who like saucy stuff!

Absolutely amazing. This is, by far, the best sushi I have ever had, and surprisingly affordable. It was a very happy environment, and the people were incredibly nice and funny. The (made from scratch) food came really quickly, and the presentation was fabulous. 11/10, would recommend to sushi lovers everywhere.

Best sushi I've had in my life. My husband has been to Japan and had authentic sushi and says this is as close as it gets. Compliments to the best sushi chef in Sangamon County. Also prices are reasonable when you see how big these rolls are! 😋

This is a small, cozy restaurant with great interior and friendly staff. I was greeted and welcomed very warmly. The sushi is very good! It’s interesting to see Korean kimbap ingredients mixed with Japanese sushi ingredients. The circumference of the sushi is very wide in size compared to other sushi places. It’s very tasty! Hands down, the BEST sushi in Springfield. We've had a variety of rolls, both with fish and veggie, and all are excellent. I especially like the Spicy Tuna Roll and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. This is my first review though I've eaten here dozens of times. If it were closer to my house, I'd be here 4-5 per week.

The best sushi I’ve ever had, and as sushi is my all time favorite thing in the world to eat, I don’t say that lightly. Everything I’ve tried here is absolutely top notch. Hiro, the head sushi chef, even gave me a free spicy tuna hand roll while I waited since he knew it was my first time. I’ve ordered several times since and the quality, freshness, and size of the rolls are phenomenal. I would trust any of his preparations and recommendations. Trust me, while delicious in their own right, this is not a place you just stick to a California roll. I highly recommend being a little adventurous if you’re new to sushi, and this is the place to do it. And if you’re a sushi pro, there are many delicious offerings to satisfy that craving. Absolutely top notch. What an honor to have this place in Springfield! I just wish they could open a second store in Taylorville. My life would be made.

A great gem for local eating. Everything I ordered was super tasty. They also give you great portions and the staff is very friendly and eager to answer questions. The only downsides are that the dining area is small and the prices aren't as cheap as I was expecting-- but sushi will be pricey anywhere you go.

My wife brought me here for my 31st birthday. I was craving some sushi and she found this little Gem! At first glance you don’t think it’s going to be that good of a place, MAN was I wrong. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The sushi chef is cutting up ingredients for a dish, our server greets us as well then takes us to our table. My wife and I both ordered dishes we had not had before. When the food came out, I was EXCITED to try it. The presentation was great, it looked yummy! It tasted DELICIOUS! And again, the service was impeccable. The server never missed a beat! I can’t say enough great things about this place. I will come here over and over again to enjoy their delicious meals and great hospitality. Thank you!

Definitely going back. The service was fast & friendly. The food was fresh and delicious. Have other entrees than sushi, like tempura, for those who don't enjoy sushi. Portions were large. There was a variety of sushi types.

Best sushi I've had in central IL. That isn't saying much, but it honestly is a chasm of difference between the fresh fish here and even the best offerings in Champaign. I had the salmon roll (simple, but delicious), eel roll (served hot with a fantastic sauce), and two pieces of scallop sushi (normally my favourite, but just OK here) The presentation was great and the food was delicious. Only note of warning: it appears they don't have the most consistent of hours. I saw that in the reviews, and even in the day I visited, they just had a paper in the window saying they wouldn't be open for dinner for the next few days. It may be wise to call ahead an order or to see if they're open.

This was my first time ordering from Happy Sushi- I had a great experience and even better sushi! Ordering over the phone was super easy and the staff was welcoming when I came through the door to pick up my order. I ordered an Alaska roll, the crunch roll, and egg rolls. All were so good and tasted very fresh. I highly recommend this to be your Springfield sushi spot!

This place is a truly hidden gem and is almost a weekly stop for me. I’ve been, slowly, working my way though the menu with my current favorites being the Spicy tuna roll and the Crunch roll.
