We had a fabulous visit to Highland Lodge. Our family stayed in Tudor cottage which was lovely. We enjoyed the beach and all the free boating options. Breakfast was also great each day. We will definitely be back!

Great food. Great atmosphere and wonderful people behind it. Dog friendly, local food, and beautiful views of the lake. Definitely recommend the cocktails - especially the bees knees!

My room was basic, the bed was comfortable and the views from my room were beautiful. I did not see another guest in the hotel for the two nights I was staying there but the bar appeared to be a popular place in the evenings. The lodge is an older building with no updates and it showed. I can only speak about my room as I did not tour the hotel - there was no restaurant that I knew about and when I left each morning there was no evidence of a breakfast cooking. The room was not air conditioned and was quite hot, in spite of the two open windows - unfortunately I was only able to open them about 3" as they were stuck from going any further. My bath towels had strings hanging off the sides as they were old. I was unable to get any hot water my last morning. The glasses left on the dresser were cloudy and there was no bottle of water waiting with them. I will not stay there again, but to be fair it was the beginning of the season and perhaps things were slow to get started.

Loved our stay here.....got a last-moment table for trivia, which our family had never done before. Such a wonderful experience to arrive in such a remote place, that was full of life, excellent food and cocktails, and many laughs. Can't wait to visit again!

Great historic inn with owners who care about the whole experience of their guests. This was my 3rd visit. Incredibly quiet, and at night you can hear loons and other waterfowl on Caspian Lake, and coyotes calling across the valley. Nice trail brings you to a great swimming spot on the lake. The food is excellent, and bar atmosphere is cozy.

We were very impressed with the Highland Lodge. We were able to stay in a cottage that had our surname on it, which was super special. Everything about the Lodge is quaint. The area is beautiful, and so restful. If you want something out of the normal, the Highland Lodge is where to go. Hosts are very accommodating.

Our 3 nights at Highland Lodge came at the end of a 12 day trip, and I wish we could have stayed the entire 12 nights - it was the highlight of our vacation! The entire staff was welcoming and made us immediately feel like we were part of the community. This place is special! From the warm, delicious breakfasts, to the comfortable, but modern rooms, to the coziest beds, to the delicious cocktails and food - and the amazing setting and grounds and beach access. Just a 5 star place all around tucked into the hill above Caspian Lake. Absolutely cannot wait to return - what an incredible place.

Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the fabulous dinner and cocktails my husband and I had. Elsa was fabulous! She knocked us out with the vodka-spiked blueberry lemonade for starters, then we had the spinach & artichoke sticks as an appy - creamy and gooey and amazing! Dinner for me was the beet green salad (pickled goodies and a very tasty blueberry dressing) and scallion/spring pea ravioli, lemony and buttery. Yum! My husband had the arugula salad and the special - rack of lamb with quinoa. Portions were perfect, and our meals couldn't have been more perfect. We plan to go to Margarita Monday at least once this summer. The staff was amazing (thank you Elsa for the friendly conversation and your bubbly personality). All were friendly and very accommodating. Best meal out in a long time - it was perfect!

Work retreat, I was only able to attend one of two days. I was sad to leave this place. So lovely, I slept so well!

I had a question before even making my reservation, and it was answered immediately. From that moment on, the process was seamless! Our room was spotless, everyone at the front desk was friendly and helpful, and the whole experience was wonderful. Breakfast was peaceful and delicious as well.

We had the pleasure to stay at the Highland Lodge in June of 2023. Elsa and Chad were so accommodating letting us find room for our trailer that was housing our 2 motorcycle's. We found our room upstairs in the main house so cute and charming. The next morning we enjoyed a complimentary free breakfast made just like mom would have done. We will be back for sure.

The breakfasts here were fabulous! Imagine bread pudding french toast with vermont maple syrup, raspberry donut cake, fresh fruit, eggs , bacon, local smokehouse sausage, homemade yogurt with granola, variety of juices, and delicious craft coffee! Just to name a FEW of our favorites. Honestly, we'd return just for the breakfast. But if you need a total reset- complete rest, no tv, the great outdoors, and a beautiful lake, this is the spot. Be sure to stop in at Willey's general store.

As a wedding photographer, I love any and all excuses to travel into the Kingdom, but whenever I get a chance to document an event at Highland Lodge I'm that much more excited. Their space is both cozy and stunning, especially in the fall when the surrounding foliage is at it's prime. I love taking folks down to the beach to capture golden hour portraits on the water, and their private access beach on Caspian Lake is an absolutely magical spot. I highly recommend Highland Lodge for hosting weddings and elopements! Their service is top notch and everyone I've worked with there is amazing.

We stayed in one of the winterized cabins and LOVED it! It was cozy, relaxing and great access to cross country ski trails. The breakfast and dinner were delicious, with a large array of options for all. Elsa and Chad are wonderful hosts telling us where to find the good snow, helping us arrange dinner reservations and making us feel welcomed! Can't wait to return!

A delightful place to stay! We loved the Federico Room which had a very comfortable bed, windows on three sides and lots of room. I would have liked more vegetarian options for dinner. Breakfast was delicious!

Loved it - cozy January weekend, fire burning in the living room, smell of pancakes and sausage from the kitchen, and a hub for mellow local socializing in the restaurant / pub in the evening. Great weekend.

The restaurant and bar exceeded our expectations. We both ordered specials and the fish and steak were almost perfect. The service was kind and diligent, the cocktails tasty, and the beer menu what is expected in this part of VT (ie world class). We are eager to return.

Wonderful historic inn. The couple that runs it have done a super job and are really nice and helpful. Food and drinks are quite good and the view is fantastic!

The Highland Lodge is where we decided to get married this past October, and it couldn't have been a better decision! Meeting and working with Elsa & Chad was a pleasure from the beginning. Elsa was extremely helpful in so many ways, from assistance with lodging for our guests to perfecting the apps/dinner menu on the wedding day itself. Their attention to detail truly helped everything go off smoothly throughout the weekend. The property itself is beautiful. A quaint Vermont lodge with several living rooms, sitting areas, bar/restaurant which all provide a warm environment to gather with friends, family or others on vacation. In addition, the cabins on site are equally amazing. They all have porches and nice views of Caspian Lake. We were fortunate to have some very warm weather for the first couple of days, so we took advantage of swimming in the lake and using the canoes/kayaks that are available for the Lodge's guests. The entire staff at the Highland Lodge helped to make our overall experience exceptional. They were very much on point throughout the weekend, and we can't thank them enough for making it happen. If you're looking for an authentic and incredible Vermont experience, look no further than the Highland Lodge in Greensboro!

My husband and I got married in Greensboro in September and had everyone stay at Highland Lodge, in addition to hosting the welcome party and farewell brunch there. Elsa, Chad, and the HL team did an incredible job! The rooms, cabins, and common areas are cozy and rustic but well appointed; the food is wonderful (get the mac and cheese!); the bar has great local beer on tap; and everyone on staff is kind and attentive. The team went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed, be it breakfast delivered to the bridal cabin or a bonfire waiting when we got back from the wedding reception. Elsa was also a joy to work with throughout the planning process. Despite the fact that it was cold and drizzly all weekend, everyone had a great time—which says something about how special this place is.

This is such an amazing place to come as a weekend get away but it’s not nearly enough time. Come alone, a romantic getaway or a family vacation either way it’s amazing time. The lake is beautiful and the cabins are quaint. Definitely place to return year after year. Elsa is amazing!

The lodge is such an amazing and welcoming oasis of peace and calm in the hustle and bustle of a busy life. An escape where you can find relaxation floating up from the lake on the breeze through the rustling of the leaves. The service is always top notch with staff that are friendly and will make you feel like you are long lost family friends visiting but also offer you the space for solitude and reflection. Exploring the grounds bucolic natural surrounds, from lake front to hilltop views, helps one center and find balance. The menu features a perfect balance between many local farm to table unique options and as well as more standard burgers type of fare. This spot holds so much magic and is the perfect place to escape to write, paint, or create as well as to just unwind and recharge a world wearied soul.

We've been a few times and have usually stayed in the Wolf or Wallace cabins, which are newly renovated and have nice kitchenettes for snacking and food storage for the kids and hungry parents. The lodge itself is a treat with table games and puzzles and books and a just-enough out of tune old grand piano with sheet music for all levels. All cabins and lodge are trailside and access some of the most stunning nordic skiing I have every done. The Great Loop is a must-ski that passes through a number of ungodly beautiful places including old sugarbush, working farms, and windy hardwood forests with very long views. Either skate or classic is excellent and the lodge proprietors are amazing, welcoming, and do a great job of keeping a quirky old ski lodge running with tasty food and lots of warm cozy places to sneak away for a sit and sip and read. Other highlights include some of the best vintage Patagonia fleece viewing in all of North America or daresay it the world? Bring your pilliest and enjoy the jealous ogling of other crispy fleece lovers like you.

My husband and I had our wedding weekend there, and I cannot rave enough about the Highland Lodge! The lodge itself is amazing. We had booked the whole weekend for our friends and family (and were reimbursed by each family member/friend), and it was amazing to know that the lodge was filled with all of our people who were surrounding us in love! The lodge has a bunch of great cabins to stay in, which offer privacy and some space for downtime, as well as adorable rooms and a lot of sitting areas for chat and gathering. We made use of the fire pit and game room as well. Elsa and Chad were phenomenal hosts! They were communicative throughout the whole process. We had our rehearsal dinner at the lodge and were able to have such a lovely experience, including a last minute change to come inside because temperatures were cold! They helped us out, were always friendly, and very laid back! We had our after party at the ski hut, and it was all set up and ready for us when we returned from our venue -- they even had a fire going for us! Overall, I could not more highly recommend Highland Lodge. It is a beautiful town, the lodge has fabulous views of the lake, and the managers are amazing.

I stayed at Highland Lodge for my first trip to Vermont and I was blown away by the beautiful views and the friendly people. A few highlights from our stay: the walk to the lake (especially for sunset), the incredible breakfast enjoyed on a lovely porch, the campfire under the amazing starry sky, and the short hike to see some great mountain views. Chad and Elsa are also the best hosts! Wonderful A++++ experience!!

Once again, another INCREDIBLE stay at Highland Lodge. I have loved seeing this spot evolve over the past few years. Margarita Monday was such a hit with the most delicious taco food truck. Chad, Elsa, and the entire staff we so friendly and treated everyone they saw like family. Barr Hill is such a gorgeous area full of numerous trails that you can explore and hike to right from your cabin. My favorite part about the lodge is sitting out in the rocking chairs on the wraparound porch every morning. DO NOT miss out on breakfast. It is made with love every morning and is SO GREAT.

Welcome was friendly by lodge owners Elsa and her husband. Breakfast was very good (blueberry French toast and the next day, sausage/onion frittata as their main featured during my stay)…the fruit/fresh yogurt/granola was delicious. They use Green Mountain coffee, which perked me up. They have a beach complete with SUPs, kayaks etc all accessible at no further charge. Lake Caspian is a nice place to paddle in your SUP. Tuna poke bowl on the visiting sushi food truck was delicious along with their Bourbon cocktail at the bar. Front porch is a peaceful place to eat and the rooms quaint and comfortable.

Elsa and Chad are wonderful as well as the rest of the staff. The lodge is warm and inviting and the food was delicious. The lodge is truly a beautiful piece of Vermont history.

Highland lodge is a real favourite. Elsa and Chad are great hosts and made us feel welcome. Breakfast and supper are always well prepared, good wholesome tasty food. The bookshelves, games and sofas on the ground floor make for good apres ski. Cross country skiing straight out onto trails from the backdoor is the icing on the cake,. Craftsbury outdoor center adds options nearby,. Our bedroom is well appointed with great views. A great place to stay!

I used to live in the area so maybe I'm a little biased. There's just something magical about the area, and Highland Lodge (especially with the new management) just complements the area so well. Weddings here are so incredible, typically fairly laid back, prioritizing connecting with each other and having a blast somewhere cool. The venue makes it easy to enjoy nature, and connect with loved ones over hikes, smores, and beer! As a wedding photographer, you really can't find a better spot in Northern Vermont for a wedding!

Can never say enough good things about the Highland Lodge. From the lake views, to the delicious food and drinks, all the way to the management. Elsa and Chad treat you like family and make you feel so at home. We had our wedding in Greensboro and had our closest family and friends rent out 95% of the property and it was like something out of a dream. Everyone got to spend the long weekend together, celebrate our rehearsal dinner together, and feel like one big family. We’ve already made plans to come back to celebrate our first anniversary!

Cant speak highly enough about our experience at Highland Lodge. Ourselves and a bunch of guests were in town for an extended stay as we were getting married in Greensboro. Elsa, Chad and their staff were absolutely AMAZING throughout the entire process and helped us plan everything along the way, from basically renting out every cabin/room, a rehearsal dinner, after party, and many other accommodations during the process. We essentially communicated back and forth via email with Elsa for almost a year getting plans settled, and she was consistently responsive, helpful and so easy to work with! We got non-stop reports from our guests complimenting on how friendly Elsa & Chad were every time they called to book a room or with a question. Again, cant say enough about this place... gorgeous location/views, comfy accommodations, and awesome staff! We cant wait to come back!

Highland lodge is a real gem in Greensboro, VT. I stayed in Appolt cabin for a week. The cabin was very clean and stocked with everything I could need. The cleaning staff stopped by daily to make the beds and take out trash and compost (and I love that they compost!!). Elsa and Chad (they run the lodge) are super friendly, helpful and provide excellent service! Breakfast in the morning had a wonderful selection of fresh fruit, homemade yogurt and granola, and many other items to fuel you up for a day of hiking or exploring VT. The restaurant and bar are top notch as well!! Loved the cocktails and local craft beer selection. Do not hesitate booking at Highland Lodge... do it NOW!! You'll love it!!

I was up at Highland Lodge back in June, however I am a frequent patron as I have clients in Vermont. This place is something special and I have never come across anything like it. From its beautiful views (sunrise to sunset), to its phenomenal food vendors that it has come through, I can say that there's much to gain from planning your stay here when in the area. Easy check-in and check out. The lodging accommodations are just right to feel cozy. A refreshing walk to the lake can grant you the very therapy you didn't know you needed. Why stop there? Go get the blood pumping with a game of volleyball and you can end the day with lovely cocktail and great company from the locals. Do yourself a favor and book a room. Take in all that Highland Lodge has to offer and more.

Highland lodge was an amazing treat! Beautiful space in a beautiful area. The staff was so kind and helpful, they went above and beyond to make our stay amazing like starting fires and showing us around the lake. We will come back as soon as we can not only for the beauty of Vermont and the lodge but for the great company of those who run it as well.

This place! Tucked in a beautiful location, nestled on a lake, surrounded by beautiful mountains, just stunning. You can choose to never leave the property (hikes, swimming, relaxing) or check out a TON of outdoor activities and cute towns within an hour drive. The hosts, Elsa and Chad are two of the coolest people I’ve ever met and the accommodations they provide far exceeded my expectations. What a duo. Just go here… you’ll be so happy you did!

We stayed the weekend at the Highland Lodge as part of a group celebration. From the moment we arrived, Elsa, Chad, Betsy and the whole staff made us feel welcome and part of the family. They are clearly focused on taking care of guests and making sure you have a great experience. To top it off, the food and drinks are outstanding. Given we visited just into the shoulder season (i.e. cold spell in September), we got to enjoy the outdoor fire pit and some outdoor grilling (over the fire)! And, they are organized to take care of any COVID guidelines, with masks, etc, to make you feel safe as a guest. We will definitely be going back!

Views, personality, and the people really make the place. Cocktails were creative crafted and got some generous wine pours.

We had a great mini-vacation there. The managed meals well with the COVID restrictions.

Charming, historic setting. Comfy room, great breakfasts and folksy staff. We'll be back!

We have stayed at Highland Lodge five times over the last two summers and already have this coming summer’s stays booked. The Highland Lodge offers a trip back in time with most of the amenities of the present. The lodge is charming and quaintly decorated with modern touches of charging charging stations and Wi-Fi. There is a in-house restaurant and bar and there is often live music. Breakfast comes with your stay and is a delicious way to start your morning. The views from the lodge and the cottages is worth the price of your stay, and you get access to Caspian Lake included with your stay. You can sun yourself on the beach, enjoy paddle boats, kayaks, rowboats, sail boats, paddle boards, canoes or swim out to the float anchored offshore and watch the clouds float by. Although it is a tiny town there is plenty in the vicinity to do. Top on many peoples list beside the lake is Hill Farmstead Brewery, a Mecca for a craft beer connoisseurs. It is also a wonderful place for families to picnic and they often have food trucks serving delicious food. Kids and dogs are welcome. Don’t miss the general store in town nor the art gallery. It is Vermont so be prepared to drive a bit but you can find great dining in Harwick as well as West Glover. Although Highland Lodge is pretty much the only game not only in town but in the area, it does not rest on its laurels. The staff are friendly, conscientious and hard-working and you are treated as friends and family and they want you to enjoy your stay as much as you do. Even if there were several hotels in town Highland Lodge would be the only place for our family. If you are visiting Smirkus, you will only be a couple miles away.

After an afternoon paddling on the gorgeous lake, we had drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and dinner on the lodge beautiful porch overlooking the lake. The beer wine and drink selection is excellent and fun, and the food was very tasty! We will certainly be back to stay in one of the cozy cabins and take advantage of the extensive cross country ski trails! Make the trip, you won't be disappointed.

The Highland Lodge is a wonderful getaway. The setting is magical; overlooking Caspian Lake, the rooms are warm and cozy -- not a television in sight -- the food is comforting and plentiful, the bar well-stocked with great local beers, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. What a great place for a romantic overnight or a family reunion.

We met at Highland Lodge for dinner and had the pork shanks and bacon Brussel penne with spicy carrot ginger soup. Delicious and the music by Sid Gulick was fun and relaxing.

Like coming home... without the drama

Our family used to come here in the old days (30 years ago) and had wonderful memories of cross country skiing in an awesome natural setting, nice cabins, and really great meals in the dining room. We stopped coming because it became unaffordable for us, and then the Lodge went out of business. When we found out recently that someone (Heidi the innkeeper and others) had bought the place and done some reconfiguring, we couldn't wait to go back up and check it out. Our experience last weekend couldn't have been better. It brought back all the old memories, and everything we remembered was pretty much still tbere, including the Fuss Ball and ping pong tables in the game room. The snow was deep and perfect, as it frequently is in the Northeast Kingdom, helping keep our old memories. The lodge itself now has a bar and casual pub/salon feeling, with entertainment, which works really well. The dinner fare is maybe a small step down from the old Highland Lodge in terms of number of selections, but the quality is really excellent. The atmosphere is homey and welcoming. The breakfasts we had were superb. We stayed in the seventh cabin, which could easily sleep 8 people and was wonderful for the 4 of us. Toasty warm with the gas fireplace. If you have the chance, make sure you get back to Highland Lodge and experience its new lease on life! You won't be disappointed.

Highland Lodge is THE place to stay in Vermont! The building is full of character and the view is amazing. The staff is friendly and the owner treats you like family.

Cozy and friendly little place that is close to everything without being in the middle of it. The staff is wonderful and Miss Heidi Lauren rocks! She knows all sorts of interesting little facts about the area and can give you many suggestions on things to do, places to eat, etc. We had an awesome time!

My husband and I stayed in the lodge this past weekend and had a wonderful time! Our dinner was delicious- there were two main entree choices and both looked good. There was live music which was a pleasant surprise, and we were able to take a paddle boat out on the beautiful lake where we watched a couple of loons swim. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, too, with nice locally made selections. Our hostess was available and helpful. We would definitely stay again. Oh, and did I mention the ping pong table? Another nice surprise if you like that sort of thing! If not, there were places to sit and read or play games. What a nice asset for this community!
