The food is aggressively "Okay" WAY too loud.

Closed the kitchen and bar early without explanation. Really disappointing.

I was back in town and brought some co-workers to dinner here. They had a band playing and the whole place was in party mode. We all had a great time! As I noted last time, the food probably isn't authentic but it tastes good.

AMAZING SPOT FOR BEER WITH THE LADS!

We came when they first opened at 11AM. The server was great but the food quality was poor. The sourkraut was really and the German potato salad had almost no flavor. Every item we had was missing spice and lacked flavor. Too bland for other German food I have eaten. I think they are more known for their Beer.

Next best thing to being in Munich!

I can’t say enough great things about the GM, Vinny. I called in with a special request and he knocked it out of the park. We were able to surprise my husband on his birthday and I really appreciate the help with making it happen.

I'm not done eating yet and all I can say is this is delicious! We don't eat German food very often but another reviewer mentioned they offer gluten free choices so we took a chance. I'm having the GF wurst sampler with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut with an additional side of red cabbage. I paired it with gluten-free New Grist pilsner-style beer. The restaurant is full of long tables, wonderful serving staff (thank you, Maria!), and a nice selection of beers with Bavarian music playing in the background. I'm very happy with everything! Unable to seat a party of 9 with a reservation.

It is located by the river. The beer was so good. We liked the place as a family. We ate onion rings, French fries and hamburger. They were tasty. You can see the river while you are eating.

Good food, fun atmosphere. Week worth a visit.

First the ambience was definitely German beer house. We had the Bauern Schnitzel which was really good flavor and the Bier cheese sauce was great but the pork schnitzel was a little on the overcooked side and dry but good flavor. We had a side of potato pancakes which weren't bad but did not have a whole lot of flavor the German potato salad what's good as well as the fried cabbage. May come back to try the spaetzle and a pretzel with that beer cheese sauce

After checking out of our Anthrocon hotel for 6 nights at The Pittsburgh Marriott City Center (Check their review I posted on their page) and thanks to my friend and AC roommate ‘Bob’ who drove us to The Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA on Monday, July 8th 2024 for our final full day, we got back to the city in busy PM rush hour traffic near the restaurant for last min souvenir shopping and we met local furry friends for my last meal at Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh before leaving town on Tuesday morning. We arrived after 7pm, and our friends were already there by time we arrived. Their beer selection was impeccable, and had a big schooner of Pilsner ale. We all had entrees, my choice was a single sausage with their special mustard, and a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with salad. The sandwich was fulfilling, but it had a lot of bread. The sausage was delicious. Good times as I also wore my fursuit head in the restaurant, that delighted the staff. A great way to end my weeklong Pittsburgh/Anthrocon trip and thanks to my friends who joined me on my final night a week ago. FIVE CLAWS UP!!!!! Furry Approved. Great food. Very authentic food that always comes with great quality and service. Can get a bit loud and busy at times but is always worth it.

Great place for beers and sausages.

Excellent atmosphere! Food, service was perfect! I highly recommend the Munich sampler for a group of people even if you order something else. It gives you the ultimate experience.

Steak Jager Spatzle $22. Steak is not tender and has no flavor at all. Worst food I had ever. I dont drink alcohol. This is not a place for food but maybe for drinks

Great customer service. We had a paper gift certificate that we could not find an expiration date on, and they honored it without any hesitation.

It was great to be back at Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh after 6 years, I visited for lunch on a Sunday and they were pretty busy but the service didn't disappoint, the beer is always great and the Jäger Spätlze that I ordered was delicious, I think it is time for them to do some renovations in the bathrooms and the parking in this area keeps getting worse over time.

Food and atmosphere are great. Do yourself a favor and don’t order the overpriced and overly salted pretzels.

Being German I always enjoy a visit to the "Hofbräuhaus" when in Pittsburgh. As indoor seating offers a more Oktoberfest like atmosphere - loud & group table seating - the outside patio seating offers a more quiet & family friendly experience with nice views of the surrounding area. The wait staff is attentive & friendly and the beer & food selections do not disappoint.

German food and biergarten in name only. Having spent the last 3 years in Germany we were exited we found this place by accident on our first day in Pittsburgh over the Memorial Day weekend. It is a large place and there is plenty of seating, the staff is dress the part and the menu has German food items, but doesn't taste the same. I can't remember what I ordered, but whatever it was (schnitzel something) it was not what I ordered. I didn't send it back because it took a long time to get the meal after we ordered. The vegetables were microwaved and schnitzel was dry and tough. The beer and wine selection was decent and if we stopped by again, it would be for drinks only. This place is OK if you've never been to Europe as you would at least get to see the costumes and listen to some German music. If weather is nice sitting outside would be enjoyable.

Came here for Father's Day after wanting to visit for so long and my first time did not disappoint. When we walked in it was so busy I was expecting (and dreading) an exceptionally long wait. I'm happy to say that that did not happen, though I would have understood given the volume of patrons. The service was so well organized and attentive, the food was fantastic and the libations need no review! I loved every moment and am so happy that I was able to spend Father's Day here!

Bier was so-so. Authentic German food items removed from the menu and American items put on in their stead. Band too loud, stupid contests that are American in nature. Nothing like the Hofbrauhaus in Munich I went to in '96. Way too Americanized. This dish was the most German one you had, but you removed it in favor of lesser dishes.

Incredible. Looks and sounds like a German Bierhall. The food was excellent. The bratwurst was flavorful, the kraut was creamy (they add cream), and the beer quality. I cannot wait to come back.

Group of ten. Food was served wrong, cold, and one persons had to be requested multiple times. Beer had to also be requested multiple times. I’ve been here a few times and must say the food is consistently below average. Beer is good. Atmosphere is LOUD.

Being German it's one of my favorite places to go, especially around Oktoberfest!

We have been to the Kentucky and Munich Hofbrauhaus locations and this one is just as good. Surprisingly it wasn't very busy but should have been.

Good German food, fun atmosphere.

Fabulous atmosphere and service with great authentic German fare and the traditional family style seating. Our server Nick took great care of our party of 7, and had some great recommendations when I couldn't decide on which beer to choose. Per his suggestion, I had a hefeweizen with raspberry and it was delicious! The jagerschnitzel was tasty, and the beer cheese spaetzle is to die for. Don't fill up on beer and schnitzel without saving some room for dessert. We tried both the Apfel Strudel (apple strudel) and the Schwarzwalder Kirsch Torte (Black Forest cake) and they were incredible. The kirsch torte is especially light and flavorful. The accordionist was a hit with all of us, especially my young son. Overall it was a wonderful experience.

Great German food and delicious beer selection. Love the food and service here! The appetizer sampler and the schnitzel sandwich are my faves!!

The first restaurant we’ve been to since we moved here two years ago. Foods are authentic ig just I don’t quite enjoy the German foods. However, my wife loves the dishes so we went to this restaurant at least once a week. The beer is homemade and tastes perfect. The freshest and sweetest beer that I’ve ever had.

went here at 1 pm and finished two beers. its good. the sausages are🤌. the schnitzel is prob good for others but mid for me. tonkatsu is just >>>.

We ordered the rouladen special. Overcooked and dry. The gravy was very salty. The service was excellent. Beer good as usual.

Food was mediocre at best. "Sausages" tasted like hot dogs. General lack of flavor. Some meals were overcooked. Loud, but tired environment. Not cheap.

Everything was amazing, but the best part was the bird in the patio area. I think I’ll name him Bartholomew.

My favorite place to eat in Pittsburgh!

This place has impressive German food. I brought my dad who is German-Irish here (he has a background in restaurant management) and he was impressed with the food. This place is well worth the visit.

The food here was quite a mix. They have some very German dishes, but they also know their audience and have quite a few American or Americanized selections. I ended up ordering a club sandwich on pretzel bread and it was hands down one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. That said, the accompanying salad and soup were entirely mediocre. The restaurant was nearly empty so the service was good.

We loved the delicious, authentic German food and beer at Hofbrauhaus in Pittsburgh! Our waitress, Izzy, was cheerful and helpful. She gave great recommendations for us. The food came out quickly. What a treat to eat here!

Great food with fresh brewed beer!!!

I'm not into German foods, but this place is very nice and the service was great. The drinks were good, and the food was good. I'm vegan, so I had to cheat and have the pretzel and the Tiramisu Cream Puff, which was lovely, light, and delightful! They have 2 levels of outdoor seating at the right near the water, so it was peaceful.

Generally a good place! Prices are up from what I remember as at all places, but the environment is pleasant.

Love this place. I've been here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The staff is really friendly, the bartenders make good drinks, and the food is delicious. Because I have a bad back, the hard wooden seats are my least favorite part, but the ambiance and decor really make for a festive environment.

I was assigned with my family to the Bonn, American Embassy and the food compared then to now is still the same amazing cuisine. Even the beer was amazing. Prices are very reasonable. If ever near them in Pittsburgh give them a try.

The only downside is you need to fight for street parking or pay for the parking garage. This automatically increases the amount you will spend in the evening. But food is fantastic (I prefer the Bauern Schnitzel and Wurstplatte), and all the beers are smooth enough to not get burned out with the Liter. Have fun! Love it!

Schnitzel was ok. Not sure if this portion is worth $20. Good beer selection, the staff knows what they are talking about. The patio smells like feet.

A huge dining hall for the guests. Sadly we are driving so don’t have the chance to try the beer. Ordered the Wurstplatte and famous Schnitzel. Sausages tastes very crunchy and delicious.

4.5 stars. A large hall with plenty of tables and booths. Patio dining overlooking Monongahela River. German menu. Live German music. Five draft beers available. We got the Marzan and really liked it. Liters available. The Jaeger Schnitzel was fine and the german potato salad was great. The struedel and Bavarian cream puff were excellent. Great service.

My family and I went to Hofbrauhaus, once more to be in the Keg Tapping night, perhaps our 23rd one; in addition, we were celebrating my wife's US Naturalization, it couldn't be better, all musicians of the Band, the Manager, the waitresses, and even several other Customers around, celebrated with us. A BIG thanks for being such a wonderful family and allow us to be part of it! PROST!!!! Beer and food were so Good.P.S. Looking where to add more stars...

The food has never disappointed a single person I've ever taken here, including people who've lived in Germany and picky eaters. On Thursday they have an accordion player and the place gets LIVELY in a fun way. The beer is fantastic and you can add flavors to it that make it even more interesting if that's your thing. Overall one of the best spots in Pittsburgh, even if it is a little pricier.

Really neat German pub! Kayla was fantastic and her recommendations were spot on. We had to send one dish back but the staff was very accommodating in taking care of the issue.

We had heard about this place for several years and were in the area to visit; decided to try the restaurant at the recommendation of a friend, local to the area. The hunt for parking on a rainy, Saturday night is exactly as it sounds and expected. If you are beer/schnitzel/brat/sauerkraut enthusiast, you'll enjoy this place. It is a very Loud venue owing to the cavernous rooms. If you're looking for night out with quiet conversation, perhaps look elsewhere. I ordered the Jagerschnitzel which came with bottom-of-the-pan-burnt potatoes, interestingly sweet s'kraut; moderately sized portions and good flavor. We all ordered desserts; very average flavor/taste and seemed thawed from a box, not fresh or made on the premises. The other diners in my party had no major complaints with their choices. Our server, Alexa, was attentive and energetic. She's an asset to the place. It was a solid/good experience but nothing to rave about.

Tired, starving, not in a great mood when I arrived. That changed so fast! Amazing service, wonderful atmosphere, fun music, and the food, omg the food! 😍 And let me just say I witnessed the hostess turn down a man trying to bride her with $150 cash to get seated faster. She stood her ground and refused to bump him up. I will eat here everytime I'm in the area!

The restaurant's policies regarding reservations and accommodations for patrons with special needs left much to be desired. My dissatisfaction stems from the fact that they do not accept reservations on Saturdays, which seems inconvenient for patrons who prefer planning or have special occasions to celebrate. It's perplexing that they exclude such a popular dining day from their reservation system. Moreover, what truly soured my experience was witnessing the restaurant's inability or unwillingness to accommodate a recent leg amputee on his birthday despite being contacted well in advance. One would expect a restaurant to prioritize customer comfort and inclusivity, especially when given ample notice about specific requirements. It's disheartening to see a lack of empathy and flexibility, especially in situations where simple adjustments could significantly enhance the dining experience for individuals with disabilities. Dining out should be an enjoyable and inclusive experience for everyone, regardless of their physical abilities. I hope the management reconsiders its policies and strives to create a more inclusive and accommodating environment for all diners in the future.

Lots of room for big gatherings on the river with friends for drinks and food

Food is always great here! I almost always get the dunkel burger, my husband tried the Hot Brown and both were delicious!

Service was slow. I never got a refill on my beer. Had to eat my dinner with warm water. Probably won't go back. Food was okay taste wise I guess I'm upset with cost versus service. I expected a better experience for what I paid.

It says that the restaurant is open until 10 pm on Sunday! We were there, ate, drank, paid the bill, decided to take more beer with us, but they told us we can’t sell it to you!!! It's only 9 pm!!!! what kind of jokes are these?! very tasty beer, delicious food, large portions, everything is cool, but the fact that they closed the cash register before the closing time of the restaurant ruined everything!!!! It’s just that the whole impression went to one obscene place!!!!

Good beer comes with longer wait times

Had a great time until woman at front desk seating came to my table and yelled at me saying I can't come in and sit here. When I informed her we just ate a 130 dollar meal and were just finishing our drinks waiting on check she had the nerve to ask what our waiter looks like lol. One of the ladies from New York with us that has never been here was so angered she could not even respond to such a disrespectful question. I was almost responding myself but decided this woman was not worth it...She then went on bitching about how she needs to seat people and it's crowded. Hey we are just finishing ,haven't even got the check ya nut! Ruining our whole experience there. Few more minutes we were finishing our drinks and out the door just as soon as we got the check .Until her ignorance we were having a great time. We still tipped well and thanked our waiter for a great job. All she had to do was quietly ask us if we ate or was just loafing lol. Instead she came at us like we just broke into the concert haha. They need get better people up front who can be nicer when dealing with customers.

I jsut moved to Pittsburgh area and I went here with my mother. We had a blast. The food was great and the atmosphere was so fun. I would have loved to have seen the back porch but it was closed due to winter months. Overall I would definitely go back here. Great place for good food and fun atmosphere.

Friendly service, delicious food, and a great atmosphere. Particularly recommend the bier cheese chicken and the strawberry cheesecake martini. They were ridiculously tasty! Also, don't miss the gift shop! :)

Fun atmosphere. Showed up around 8:30 and they had an accordion player until 9. I don’t think this place is very kid friendly though. A bunch of people at various tables yelling chug to get their friends/loved ones to drink faster.

Food was phenominal!! And the experience with the live Oompa band is always best!

Wow, having been to the Munich original several times, I had high hopes for this place. Having traveled to Pittsburgh for a concert I was excited to finally try it. You can tell the beer was not brewed in Germany- both beers I tried were unusually bitter and I couldn’t even finish the second. The food was basically taken from a freezer; overly salted and processed. The sauerkraut had a strange baby-food like texture that I can’t really explain. The space was pretty nice and I can imagine sitting outside in warmer weather and overlooking the river would be nice.

Went for a work event. Place was great very entertaining! Enjoyed a Behemoth sized pretzel and Beer and listened to the Oompah music!

Typical Bavarian style German house, with all of the German specialties and then some. The food was great, with many choices. The beer was also great. The service was even better. Typical family style seating, which is also a fun change of pace. We'll go back for sure, a really fun restaurant with the family. The accordion player was fantastic and got the crowd going!
