Tried this place for the first time for dinner. I feel the portions are small and the food is mediocre. Ordered potstickers and pad thai -- both were rather bland/lacked flavor. Also ordered green curry which was only slightly better. Very friendly staff and service was good -- the owner even came out and helped with service and chatted with customers.

Me and my girlfriend came here craving authentic Thai food and we were so glad we came to the perfect restaurant!! They have a decent menu to choose from and the food was decent priced for its portion. We order moo ping which is my all time favorite appetizer and they make it super good with their home made sauce w a side of cucumber and tomato; papaya salad which we got spicy and it was super spicy Cai they put chopped up to si chili peppers (in big piece) and I ate a tons of it thinking it was string beans but it was DELICIOUS! For mains we got pannang curry and sauce was delicious but the chicken was a bit dry. The pad see eew was delicious! Wish we got more meat in it but because of how flavorful the dish was, I didn’t care at the time. Wish I had the room to try mango sticky rice cause it’s in season… Over all the food was 8.5/10 definitely recommend if you’re in the area for some hearty delicious Thai food!! The service was fast and good. The restaurant was clean and quiet.

The best Thai restaurant in Edgewater. (Fight me.) I've been to all of them. The owners are very friendly and the food is delicious. Their prices are a buck or two higher than others but the quality is fantastic. Vegetarian-friendly. I was a regular at another Thai restaurant (very) nearby but the owner is rude. I hate to write this review, but I must... Let me start by stating that service was excellent, however, the food was horrendous. The food was absolutely flavorless. I must note, I didn't have anything special, I simply had the beef fried rice. I literally had to stop eating it about five bites in. I paid the bill and went to another restaurant in the area. Very disappointed.

Looking forward to some green coconut curry with the green beans, thai basil. It can be an exquisite combination but this dish fell far short at Jin Thai. There was no appeal in the green curry/coconut sause. And a funk to the taste (was it the chicken?) Watery sause. I can make better at home in a second. Also, they forgot to include the jasmine rice! Who forgets the rice? I had to cook rice at home. Oh well.

Lovely little restaurant. It was a little stuffy on a humid Sunday, but the door was open and there was a decent breeze if you sat near it. Quick service, and it wasn’t busy for a Sunday afternoon. I got pad see ewe with tofu and it was yummy, but it was a very mild sweet flavor. There was no spice or “zing” whatsoever. I think adding onions could’ve even helped. With that said, I won’t order that one again but will still go to this restaurant. That dish would be a good noodle option for kids. They don’t take Amex or Discover, so be prepared with payment options.

I have been to Thailand and have eaten at more than 15 different Thai restaurants in Chicago and the quality just has not been satisfactory. This is the only restaurant in the chicagoland and suburbs that delivers an homage to true thai cuisine. The chicken satay is fresh and juicy. The larb is fresh with just a hint of fish sauce so that it is not overpowering but complements the flavors. They also add the crispy bits of rice to give it a crunch. Not one restaurant I have been to goes for that extra touch. The panang curry with veggies and tofu was rich but not too creamy/fatty with too much coconut milk. Wow!!

Jin Thai Cuisine was awarded Bib Gourmand Status two years in a row. The restaurant was completely empty at 4 PM on Sunday when we visited. After 5 PM other guests started to appear. The restaurant has a simply decorated dining room with old photo reproductions on the walls. As appetizers we had Crab Rangoons, Spring Rolls and small Tom Yum soup. Soup was pleasant enough. Rolls were crisp and crab rangoons were tasty, albeit rather small. My main dish Spicy Eggplant ($11.96) was excellent. Stir-fried Thai eggplant was served with minced chicken, basil, bell peppers and spicy jalapeno black bean sauce. The sauce was quite delicate and even jalapeno peppers were eatable. Crispy chicken ($12.95) was a dish suitable for people who are afraid of spicy food. It contained deep fried battered chicken breast pieces served with sweet and sour sauce. It was good. A side of cucumber salad was unremarkable. The third specialty dish we had was Hot Curry Catfish ($15.95). Crispy fillet catfish was served in spicy curry with Thai eggplants and herbs. The dish was tasty. We also ordered two Thai Custard for desert ($5.95), but I was not impressed. The service was good, but it is not surprising because, being the only guests most of the time of our visit, we had undivided attention of two waitresses. The cooking was good enough for us to recommend the place. The bill came to $72 for three people without drinks. Parking was easy Sunday afternoon.

My friend discovered Jin Thai and was anxious to return. It's a small place, and easily passed by, but that would be a mistake. It was exceptional in flavor and friendliness. We started with Satay - seasoned chicken on skewers, served with a peanut sauce with a touch of spice. It was a great appetizer. We both got the Cashew Chicken and that was a great choice. The vegetables were fresh, crisp and tasty. The sauce was flavorful, but not overpowering. We appreciated the brown rice too. The recommendation for dessert was the mango and coconut sticky rice and the Thai Custard. I could have eaten another serving of both! The menu has a lot of variety and I'm looking forward to my second visit. TASTY!

We were party of 9 from the suburbs looking for tasty Thai experience while celebrating a birthday and college send-off. Made reservations for 6 pm. Easy 2hr meter street parking in front. We were the first diners there for the evening. We ordered a bunch of appetizers for sharing including favorites chicken satay, moo ping, Vietnamese rolls, shrimp rolls, and tasty little leaf bites miang kum. Also had Thai crepe which was yummy but hard to share with a crowd. For mains, we had some ideas and our waitress helped refine and insure a mix of flavors. Our favorites included spicy eggplant, basil fried rice with beef, panang curry, roasted chicken, spicy kee mow, and a delicious ginger duck entree that came with tom yum soup. This generally takes 25 minutes we were informed, but as part of our big orders all coming, we really didn't seem to wait at all. It was fabulous. The place is BYOB, and we enjoyed the wines we brought for pairing with the spicy food. The Thai tea and Thai coffee was also very good. It's hard to say that a restaurant is your favorite just based on food, especially when there are so many great places and you travel a lot. But here, at home in Chicago, and based on food, Jin Thai is my favorite. Owners Chai and Jin (the establishment's namesake) are there every night and are wonderful hosts, but their food is also the best. Flavorful, fresh and feisty (a spicy Thai splash when you want it... she can make it HOT, HOT, HOT!), Jin never disappoints. This is authentic Thai food. I travel the world and her Thai is what you get back home. Fish, soups, great appetizers... Chai will set your courses if you ask. He does for us. There is not a dish that I don't find fantastic. It is a BYOB establishment, so bring appropriate beer or wine to complement some varied Thai flavors. It is a small room, so go early. I want to go there now!

A friend recommended this small corner restaurant when we missed our destination restaurant because of early closure. Pleasant soothing surroundings. We were puzzled by the taro appetizer. I thought it was like the deep fried stuffed taro in dim sum offerings. I did recognize the tofu wrap, but it seemed to have the texture of a slice of rye bread. My vegetarian curry was quite tasty and fiery. My friend had the basil beef, which seemed fine. Our servers were efficient and pleasant. Our evening was absolutely ruined and shortened by a baby screaming while the Mother sat there, impassive. Honestly, the issue of bringing children of inappropriate age has to be addressed.

Great Thai food at this spot. The appetizers are delicious. We have eaten here several times and it has always been great. Good service too. Byob which we like. Bring your wine or beer and enjoy some wonderful Thai cuisine.
