I used to live in West Orange, and Kim's was mt go-to spot for amazing food. I moved a few hours away and just came through NJ. Stopped off for a deluxe sashimi platter and a quick bite at the sushi bar. Amazing service, hospitality, and food. The quality and presentation of their food are amazing. They packed my order up on ice, and the family was able to enjoy an amazing meal at home.

Food is good but not as great as it used to be and Service for to-go orders is TERRIBLE. Order was deemed "ready" and took an additional 15 minutes after receiving the notification. Also, it's a very expensive meal for even 2 people to enjoy and the Kani salad (easily one of the less expensive things on the menu to make) is $12.99 for a sad clump of seaweed and spicy mayo and crunchy stuff (don't believe me, take a look at the pictures!). Shame that they don't pay attention to the small details anymore - food is still good, but value for the quality and amount of food is now in a downward spiral.

I like different. Sushi can easily get boring. The rolls are very creative, fresh, and tasty. I'll be back! Worth the money. Seems like a lot of people do takeout here. It's Not very big inside, but it's not tight. But not fancy at all. Like I explained above, the Sushi is great!

The best sushi in town and in the area to be honest. The quality is always perfect and the staff are great. Been going to almost 5 years now and still the best sushi spot in my opinion.

My review is for customer service only. The food here is excellent and I'm sad that our office will no longer order food from here. We order from you all often and we are in Parsippany and make the drive to West Orange because of the quality of your Sushi. Today we placed a large lunch order it was picked up and put in our lunch room. We split the order and noticed that 2 rolls where missing. We called right away and the woman on the other end of the phone kept speaking over me, requested a picture and insisted that the roll must be there. We have ordered from you guys for years and have never had anything missing before. Sad that the only time we have something happen with our order we are met with someone who is not helpful

We order from Kim’s once a week , however yesterday both food and service were subpar. We had to wait 50 minutes for pick up when we were quoted 30 minutes. Sushi was not what it usually is.

Fresh ingredients, lots of variations to choose from, nice atmosphere, in short - go and enjoy!

Originally rated this place 5 stars because me and my husband were obsessed. We usually get take out but the first time we decided to dine in the experience was AWFUL. The waitresses were incredibly rude. From passive aggressively taking things off of our table before we were even done eating to giving our table to individuals who got there after us even though we were waiting. Recently, their take-out system has changed too and it seems to be a different hostess. It’s such a shame because we used to eat here once a week and we’ve had enough bad experiences to not really want to come again.

The food was very fresh with my favorite being the Elizabeth and dawn roll. The service very great our waiter was very nice and patient. Everyone was very nice and attentive if we needed more water or tea. Complimentary orange slices for dessert was a nice touch. The food was very tasty and we definitely enjoyed it. It’s a small place to dine in , now I understand a lot of reviews mention takeout. But regardless it was nice just a little cramped.

My husband and I come to Kim’s Sushi almost once a week and sometimes we found ourselves coming 2 times a week! We, especially I, LOVE Kim’s Sushi. I’ve never taken my business anywhere else and I find it very hard to try other sushi places since Kim’s Sushi makes exactly how I love my sushi! My favorite I use to get all the time was 2 orders of smoked salmon and recently I’ve been branching out and have been loving the volcano rolls. The employees are lovely; they notice every time we come in that we are reoccurring guests, and treat everyone so lovely. The employees are lovely as well as Mr. Kim himself. Last weekend for Palm Sunday, since we could only eat fish, my husband and I came to Kim’s Sushi— taking advantage of the Fish Only day. Previously, we had been to the gym in which I had my hair tied up but I started developing a horrible headache once we got to Kim’s Sushi. A Headache shortly turned into a migraine and that caused me having to get up and leave immediately— feeling nauseous, wanting to faint, wanting to throw up even— while my husband was trying to check up on me yet trying to pay for our bill, it was hectic! Mr.Kim was there this evening and couldn’t help but notice my hurrying out the door without my husband as frequent customers; because my husband was trying to pay the bill as quickly as he could. Mr. Kim was asking what happened, realized what had happened and was quickly packing our things and said, “go go go!” Without a payment of our dinner once understanding what was going on. Overall, the customer service here is phenomenal and I will continue to keep coming to Mr. Kim’s restaurants as long as they are around!

sushi is always spot on. Just don’t like when they add the hot and cold sushi on same platter. That and when it’s ready 10 minutes early the hot food is cold.

I went there with my friends and enjoyed various sushi and they all were delicious. Must go here for sushi and sashimi. I recommend getting Dragon eel roll, seared salmon roll, and spicy edamame it is a solid sushi.

Taste and quality has dropped significantly.

Always a great spot, they don't take reservations and always a wait but staff is friendly and attentive and the sushi is the best in town.

***Food Poisoning Alert*** On Tuesday evening February 6 at app 7:00pm my wife and a friend went to Kim’s Sushi as we have done many times thru the years. It hurts me to leave this post, but after being hung up on by employees, when I’m simply trying to let them be aware of a problem, is unacceptable. In short, two of the three of us had food poisoning and it was narrowed down to the eel roll. If the eel was bad, we would’ve most likely tasted it - which leads me to believe there was a bacterial issue. This can prove to be deadly to people, and when I was at Kim’s the week before for lunch I noticed the chefs using the same cleaning rag to wipe off the counter / prep area multiple times. That alone should’ve been a red flag for me, but as I said we have been going to Kim’s Sushi for many years. We called, not looking for a refund, but to simply make them aware of the problem. Still no response. Hopefully Kim’s Sushi along with consumers are reading this, and are now aware. Will we return to Kim’s Sushi? Definitely not. They’re lack of communication over this left us feeling that again, it’s all about the money - nothing more.

This is the second time I’ve had Kim’s (first was dine in) and I’m officially a repeat customer. Their sushi is absolutely UNREAL. So much variety, so fresh and some really inventive and delicious combinations. They also have given us a little extra something each time I’ve gone which I so appreciate and is a huge part of why I’ll keep coming back. They seem to truly care about customer satisfaction. We got a whole roll added in for free this time and I was blown away by the generosity and by how great it was. Kims has gained a new loyal customer for sure and I very highly recommend this place to anyone! Favorites so far: Manhattan roll, French kiss roll, spicy crispy crunch roll, and loved all the sashimi we’ve had (tuna, yellowtail, salmon)

Noisy and crowded with tables too close together to have a decent conversation with your dinner partner. Sashimi is ok, we've had better in Millburn and Maplewood. Fish pieces aren't very big and the rolls are not very interesting. Not returning.

The whole family got norovirus after eating their sushi. Food was not bad but they must be having issues with sanitary rules.

Ordered seared salmon sushi. Picture shows the condition of what was handed. Raw tails and uneven seared. $18? Walked back inside to attempt to get the order right after waiting 30 minutes and was advised that how it is? Despite eating this same order multiple times…seared does not mean half raw fish. For the price will stick to NYC. Thanks for the refund and lack of care.

Came here for lunch based on the raving reviews. Tiny little restaurant with too many tables cramped into a small room. Yes there’s parking but is that so essential to a restaurant? Food quality is great, price to quantity relation is not. Had a lunch assortment and it is much less food than most other sushi restaurants around. Sushi itself was great but slim on the fish. Would not go back for lunch, maybe for takeout…

Tables are too close together, no personal space, Food too salty and too much sauce on everything, too much mustard. Won't be coming back.

Came here with two friends for dinner. I was have been told about Kim's Sushi for such a long time and the build up was not a disappointment. I can not wait to come back. The menu is extensive which can be a bit overwhelming but they have something for everyone. The hardest part is deciding on what to eat. The restaurant is very small with limited seating. I recommend calling ahead or ordering take away, otherwise your wait can be a bit long. The wait is worth it though. The sushi is fresh and the service itself is quick. Prices are fair and I left satisfied for the rest of the evening. Parking is limited but there is street parking if the small lot is full.
