Wow, never had such an over priced piece of dried out fish in my life. My wife had an overpriced crab cake she said didn't even taste like crab. Needless to say we will never go back, nor will we recommend to anyone. They should be ashamed of themselves charging those prices for mediocre food at best.

Our servers were phenomenal. I guess that was to be expected as our main server was the ant of the younger server. Drinks, appetizers, and the main course were all served in the appropriate amount of time without rushing and without our plates being whisked away. Rather nice in these fast-paced we live in. But the level of service did not end there. Along with our dessert, we were given a lovely second dessert to share as three of us were celebrating birthdays. While some may say, the menu is not vast, eight people at our table had eight different entrees and none were disappointed. I hate to give this a stellar review as I'm afraid the restaurant may become overly popular. But at the end of the day, isn't that really just rewards for somewhere that is special and unique? Cannot wait for our next visit!

Let me share with you my experience with Krazy Kat's and save you the possible disaster: 1) I make a reservation for a dinner date with my wife about a month in advance. I write to reserve the two top table center in the room by the cat statue and fireplace. When I get there, I am told... "Oh someone requested that before you... I mean I just looked at this reservation just now..." This was after I was made to wait standing at an empty entry area and bar. 2) We didn't get the seating of our choice, so we are offered a different table. This table was not even set, no flowers on the table, no candle lit, unlike every other table in the room. To make matters worse, I get to see the people who took my table due to her malfeasance. 3) We order drinks and the main course, after some time later I get my drink and are appalled! They put my bourbon inside of a wine glass, with an orange garnish on it! I was embarrassed 4) We finish our waters quite quickly, as it was summer and quite hot in the establishment. I am not exaggerating when I say that EVERY single other table was offered water multiple times, while we had our glasses empty the entire meal. They passed with the water pitcher multiple times throughout our time there but only went to check in on other diners. 5) I ordered the Blackened Salmon with Shrimp Etouffe, and I understand that salmon is a difficult fish to cook properly... but I expect a chef of a restaurant of this caliber... and one that charges 40 dollars for a 6 dollar salmon cut, would be AT LEAST be able to cook it properly. The salmon was dry, overcooked, and lacking in the one thing in its namesake (THE PEPPER) 6) I am now halfway done my meal, glass empty, when the hostess comes up with the flowers and places them on the table. She does not light the candle, she does not even pass a moments thought of us before rushing back to the bar. The server did not check in on us once to ask how anything was, nor to see if we required anything... Despite doing so to every single other patron in the establishment. 7) I am now embarrassed, upset, thirsty, saddened, and in pain due to the very uncomfortable chairs, and the treatment we had received. Despite my better judgement, we decided to split a takeaway dessert. I expected, especially since multiple other patrons asked for a takeaway dessert, that the restaurant would be capable of providing an adequate receptacle for their own food, seeing as they do make it and such. But when I was handed the check, with the dessert, it was smashed into a glorified Tupperware container. 8) The check came out to roughly 130 dollars for the two meals, two drinks, and a shared dessert. Despite my better judgement again, I tipped the waitress... For what exactly I do not know... I have received better service at a failing Chinese buffet, and I have tasted better food from nearly any fast food establishment. After the tip, I payed 150 dollars. When I left and returned to my room at the Inn. I felt robbed, not only of my money, but of the experience, the service, and satisfaction of knowing the place actually cared enough to do what is right. My wife and I candidly shared the same opinion after moments into being seated... Should have just went to Chick-Fil-A... at least the food would have been moist, the service would be with a smile, and someone would be pleasured to have our business.

I was there with a party of 5 after my wedding. Two of us ordered the salmon, two of us ordered the sea scallops (I think $44) and one ordered the fish of the day (halibut). All of us felt sick the next day. The halibut was not cooked. All of the seafood and rice (white or black) was loaded up with so much salt that it was very difficult to eat. The rice was cold. I feel like the seafood may have been rotten and they tried to hide this with salt. The bisque came in very small portions was served lukewarm. We waited around an hour for our main courses even though the place did not seem busy at all. Was this so they could be sure that we would be so hungry so we didn't send the disgusting food back? Overpriced and terrible food. My previous review disappeared from google.

Went here for my birthday. Very disappointed. Have eaten here in past, and have always enjoyed it. Foi gras Came out cold. Sauce on plate had congealed. Sent it back. Came again, just warm. Asked waitress if it was supposed be cold….. Brussels sprouts were good. Crab bisque was also good. Crab cakes were smothered in Hollandaise sauce with a heavy sautéed crunchy vegetables that just did not go with the crab cakes. Presentation was uninspired. Salad was wilted and looked as if it came out of a bag, and overly dressed. Bagged cheese dumped on it.. service: just bad. They had taken my fork and knife when removing my appetizer, and then came back with Salad. Would you like me to get you silverware? Please. 5 mins went by before she came back. She went to other tables during this time. She asked if we wanted more water. Please. Never came back. It’s a shame the food and service has declined. It is a lovely place, to stay at inn at Montchanen. I hope they get a chef and staff in soon.

What a disappointment, my wife took me here for my birthday today, for years we’ve heard good things. She decided to surprise me with a place we haven’t been. Bread came out an overly dried baguette, hard to bite. We started with the foie gras (spelled on the menu “foie grass”). No complaints here. Charcuterie board came out less than basic and uninspired. The cheese were in blocks, I pay a chef to prepare a meal, why do I need to slice the chunks? And other than a few small slices of sausage it had one slice of prosciutto for 4 people, and a fist full of granola clumps, nothing had cohesiveness. I don’t do sweet drinks but they had an “eggnog” martini I decided to try since it almost Christmas. I know my alcohol, it was just baileys and a shot of whipped cream. 😏 My wife got the filet mignon, it was sous vide, this means they don’t trust their chefs. If you don’t know, a sous vide is a vacuum sealed piece of meat is brought up to the correct temperature internally, then cut open and tossed on the grill for 5 Seconds to place black grill marks on it. What it lacks is a salted and developed crust from proper grilling, resulting in what Akins to steamed meat. It’s flavorless and has no character. A sous vide is a dinner party, don’t kill the guests, tool for unsure home cooks, not a “high end” restaurant. I ordered an entree but asked for a $14 salad as side for it, it was delivered on a tea cup plate and had wilted tomato’s and brown avacados, I sent it back and said it was no good, they took it off the bill and on the check stated “customer error” (I corrected that)🤣🤣 What a let down… Don’t need to go here twice….

We went to dinner for our anniversary and it was an amazing experience. The ambience was very eclectic, charming, and inviting. Our waitress was attentive and answered any questions we had concerning the menu. This night she also served as bartender and my Campari and soda was one of the best I’ve had! The menu isn’t overwhelming and offered choices for everyone. I had the seared scallops which were done to perfection. My husband had the filet which was also done to perfection. Each dinner came with an abundance of seasonal vegetables and either potatoes or rice - all of which were delicious! Desserts were limited yet all made right in the restaurant. Highly recommend this lovely dining experience!!

Just about as poor a meal as any I have ever had. Almost amateurish preparation and presentation. It had been a long time since our last visit, and we had the expectation of something approaching excellent. Alas, neither crab cake, nor scallops, nor my appetizer, nor my wife's salad even approached an evaluation of "fair." Now other reviews seem positive or even more than merely positive. Maybe Sunday evenings in November are simply "off nights" for Krazy Kat's. But we will be taking ALL nights off from this restaurant in future. M.Conlan

"Run" fast and away from this restaurant. Our food arrived 50 minutes after we placed our order. We'd alerted waitress to pls go easy on the salt, however the chef had a different idea... over salted and crusted with a thick layer of pepper a very delicate fish cut and vegs. I think this was either done "on purpose" or the chef didn't know diddly squat about fine cuisine. Waitress appeared to be kind so she did get her 20%. Musty smell... old furniture sorely needing re-upholstety, and bathroom door wouldn't lock. Far from a good experience.

The old village blacksmith shop at Montchanin is on the National Register of Historic and today serves as Krazy Kat's Restaurant. Located in the historic Village of Montchanin, it was settled my mill workers in the early 19th century according to the nearby historical marker. Cats of all sizes and species are the theme of the decor inside and out. A private dining room, known as the Crow's Nest, is located upstairs and accessible from the main road. Krazy Kat's is part of the campus of the Inn and Spa of Montchanin where more parking is available.

My wife and I just had Mothers Day Brunch at this restaurant. To sum it up - worst brunch we have ever had. We normally frequent Krazy Kats for dinner and love it. We use their Spa and even stayed overnight at the Inn multiple times. Brunch is NOT their forte. I ordered Eggs Benedict. The eggs were overcooked (cooked solid ) - the ham was a very small portion (about the size if a silver dollar) - overcooked and the Hollandaise sauce was almost non existent. The muffin at the bottom was cold and chewy. My wife ordered an omelette without onions and they filled it with about 15 pieces of garlic instead - ruining the omelette. She asked for wheat toast and they gave her rye toast. Here is the kicker - we complained to the manager and she was rude with us and then got angry!!! Her attitude of “how dare you complain” and then she ignored us the rest of our time there. No real apology for the terrible meals. When we left, everyone said thank you except her. She turned her back on is. For all this trouble we were given an minuscule credit of $8.00 - which to me was insulting. Great place for dinner but stay away from Brunch. You will be disappointed.

Krazy Kats bills itself as a fine dining establishment, but the restaurant fails in numerous respects. We were celebrating the birthday of my elderly mother, who loves all things chocolate so I called a few days ahead of our previously booked reservation to ask the restaurant if they had any sort of chocolate cake on the menu and if not, could the restaurant bake us one, something we'd happily pay extra for. No, I was informed by the condescending host, they did not serve "birthday cake" and they were not a bakery so would not bake a cake. When I asked if I could bring a cake she responded that if I felt I must I could go ahead. When our party of six arrived at the restaurant I handed the cake I had purchased for the occasion to the bartender, who told me there would be a small charge for serving it -- something the host had failed to reveal when I called, but we agreed. Once seated, I noticed that the wine list fails to include the years of the bottles. When questioned the same condescending host I had spoken with on the telephone explained the years change on the bottles regularly so it would be too difficult to update the (8x10 printed paper) wine list, but we could ask the server who would go check the years of individual bottles in which we might be interested. The bartender was unfamiliar with the ingredients of fairly common cocktails --a Boulevardier was served as bourbon on the rocks -- and the server mixed up the several orders of steak, cooked to different levels. One member of our party had asked for a medium-well filet, but finding it rare when she cut into it, sent it back. Another member of our party then cut into her steak, found it medium well, and realized the steak that had been sent back must have been hers, forcing her to run to the kitchen to retrieve the first one before it was overcooked. After the main courses, the server brought the birthday cake out and we sang happy birthday before she returned the cake back to the kitchen to slice. At the point, the host came out and told us she would charge us $6 per person to allow us to eat the cake. Annoyed by the $36 surcharge we declined and the host had the cake -- now sliced -- put back in the box and returned it to us caustically noting she also was returning the grocery bag in which we had carried the cake. Entrees are in the $40+ range. We had also ordered cocktails, appetizers, and wine so the bill was hefty, more than $500. While the food was fine, if unremarkable, the service and treatment by the host left us cold. At this price range, fine dining should include good service. We certainly wouldn't go back. The restaurant stands by its hosts conduct and agrees we shouldn't return so no changes are in the offing. Diners beware.

I was a big fan of this restaurant for many years. This last visit was a extreme disappointment. Ordered Crab cakes and couldn’t eat them because they were over saturated with salt and the crabmeat was spoiled. My second choice was lamb chops which were ok but the side dish was poorly cooked and all too salty. Crème brûlée has always been a favorite dessert at this restaurant, however the one I had last week was horrible and I couldn’t finish it. Obviously the chef has changed and the quality of the food has went way down. I will not recommend or return to this restaurant. My entire meal was a big disappointment. I was not going to post a bad review because I filled out a comment card expressing my disappointment with the food, but since they didn’t contact me they are getting a public bad review. I went here for brunch to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday with my wife and sister-in-law. We were seated promptly and the server asked us about drinks. We all ordered coffee and my wife and SIL ordered mimosas based on the servers suggestion. The coffee was cold. We told our server so she told us she was going to put on a fresh pot. The coffee from the “fresh pot” was also cold. We all ordered eggs, poached and “runny eggs”(as stated on the menu), with our entrees. The poached eggs were over cooked and hard. The “runny eggs” were not runny at all but hard. I ordered a brunch burger, including a “runny egg”. The server told me the burgers are usually cooked medium rare which I said that is how I prefer them. My burger was well done and my “runny egg” was hard. A nice quaint posh restaurant with a high end feel and a quirky decor with cat and dog portraits was pleasant. I expected a nice dining experience and good food to go with the atmosphere. I was utterly disappointed. It you are going to have a nice image you should serve goo food.

Let’s chalk this up to Covid. In the past this was the coveted Resturant in Delaware for New Year’s Eve and other events. The service and servers were great. Friendly, professional and very helpful. The food was not great. To be fair the crab bisque was special and delicious. The butter tasted curdled and not edible. The entree however was a major disappointment. All 5 of us ordered the Surf & Turf. First problem the presentation was disgraceful. It was served in a bowl like soup or spaghetti. In the bottom was mashed potatoes and sting beans. On top of them the lobster tail was cut in half and mushed down into the mashed potatoes. On top of that was what could have been a great strip steak squeezed in on top of the potato, lobster mess. My first bite was the lobster. After I cleaned off the mashed potatoes and struggled cutting it in the bottom of the bowl and not a plate it wasn’t bad. The steak was a disaster. So over salted that it left a taste like sea water on my palate. I tried a second piece from the other end. It was not as bad but it was the gravy on the steak that had settled into the mashed potatoes and added it’s salt to the rest of the food. With 2 bites of steak and 1/2 the lobster tail I just quietly stopped eating removed this place from our list of potential restaurants. Really…. Eating out of a bowl??? Great for pets and breakfast but not surf and turf.

We dined at Krazy Kats this evening based upon all the great reviews. Unfortunately we had a pretty mixed experience. Details are below but it seemed as if the kitchen staff wasn’t up to par tonight. Perhaps staffing issues or loss of talent? The experience details (long): The restaurant provided a 1 bite starter of pita topped with salmon and almonds and it was very good. Our appetizers were calamari which was amazing and crab bisque (house special) which was mediocre (not much taste). My chef special entree was a 4oz steak, sliced potatoes, broccolini and a 2oz crab cake. The 4oz steak was extremely rare and really had no flavor - I had ordered medium well. I’ll eat rare if it’s tasty. The broccolini was pan charred but over done with a disappointingly strong burned taste. The crab cake was really bland - no flavor. My dining partner tasted everything (loves rare steak) and agreed things definitely were off. The other entree was Salmon Oscar - crab meat, parmesan panko crusted spinach, tomato basil sauce & baby roasted yukons. This meal was good and unlike mine the crab meat was excellent. The desserts (comp’d due to my meal issues) were Creme Brûlée and chocolate brownie mousse. The brûlée was disappointingly runny. The brownie was mostly mousse with very little brownie and overall ok but not great. We were never asked if we wanted coffee or after dinner drinks, go figure? PS - we are always polite and don’t give the service staff a hard time since we know they have a tough job. Our meal was definitely not worth $130 even with comp'd desserts!

I’ve never had a softer, mushier veggie burger in my life. The patty was actually softer than the wonder bread bun. It didn’t taste bad but texturally was completely unappetizing. I think I would’ve preferred a veggie burger from Burger King. They also forgot half my order. I definitely do not recommend unless you’re desperate.

Krazy Kat's was recommended to us by neighbors. I am not one to give 5 stars very often, but Krazy Kat's totally deserves that rating. Excellent service in a cozy, quaint and quirky dining room. Ingredients are top quality and prices very reasonable considering the portion size and the quality. My shrimp cocktail and my scallops were a delicious birthday meal. Hope to get back there again sometime!

Good food and atmosphere. Reasonably price and good variety. You have to walk a little bit from the parking lot, across pavers and up/down an incline depending on where you park; so wear comfortable shoes ladies. We enjoyed the Smoked Avocado toast, Brioche French toast w/ fried potatoes, and Omelet.

Krazy Kat's was the perfect gathering place for brunch with our family coming from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. We were fortunate to be served by a delightful and professional server named LT. I always appreciate when a larger party is able to be seated at a round table, so that we could all see and talk to each other. That was the case today. Everyone enjoyed their food. I think the biggest shout out goes to the french toast. The prices were reasonable. Based on our experience here today, I've already suggested to the family that this be our annual meet up spot.

Love the cozy, intimate feel of this establishment. The host, Max was cordial and accommodating, he held an engaging conversation with us. Ernie was the bartender for the night, he was energetic, friendly and makes a great old fashioned. Our meals arrived fairly quickly and the portions were somewhat small. However, the food was very flavorful. Whenever we are back in the area we will definitely return to here to dine.

From the starters to the dessert with a happy anniversary banner, the food was fresh, high quality and prepared as only a top chef can do. I would highly recommend anyone who would like a memorable dining destination to choose Krazy Kats.

Lunch was delicious and the service friendly and attentive. Sadly, however, I (and my guests) will not return to this favorite spot. Our server was wearing a mask that supports an organization that takes great pride in its violent activities. Wearing such a mask sends the message that the wearer, and the restaurant owner, support the violence. Dining at a restaurant should be relaxing and free from political statements - of any nature. A restaurant is an inappropriate venue for these messages. For feedback, I have shared the experience with others. They were shocked and disappointed and stated they won't be returning.

Restaurants attached to hotels can be very good or very disappointing. Krazy Kat's was terrific. We stayed at the Inn for two nights. The first night we did take out and ate in our room. We had the grilled rockfish. The skin was crispy and the inside was tender and juicy. Perfect. It came with a risotto and a tomato pesto, both very nice. We added roasted fingerling potatoes and grilled asparagus and both of us were very happy. The portion was large enough that one main dish and two sides were just right for the two of us. One nice feature is that the portions come in full plate and a reduced size. The second night we ate in the restaurant. Service was friendly and smooth. My wife had the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake (reduced portion) and I had the duck Breast (also the reduced portion). There was plenty of food for each of us. My wife said that the crab cake was the best that she had ever had - juicy and tender without noticeable filler or binder. And nicely seared on the outside. The accompanying haricot verts were very simply prepared, allowing the flavor of the crab to stand out. My duck came with broccoli, which was very tasty and a truffled apple purée. The wine list was long but I only looked at the by-the-glass selections since we were going to have different wines. The selection of reds was not to my liking with several west coast cabs. There was a South American Malbec, which I probably would have had if I were drinking a red wine that night. Fortunately the whites were more interesting with a California dry rosé, a California Riesling and a French Sancerre. We had the Riesling and the rosé and we were quite happy. The dessert menu was fairly standard for a good restaurant, with crème brûlée, fruit cobbler, homemade gelato and sorbet and several chocolate offerings. We split the fruit cobbler with a dollop of vanilla gelato on top. Everything was very well prepared. The wait staff told us that the chef goes to the market each day and only get what looks good, so the menu is not entirely predictable one day to the next. But that means that everything is fresh and well prepared. A good place to be adventurous and to try something new.

Service was confusing and slow but good, food was good not excellent as led to expect. Outdated decor... not antique just old and unimpressive with the excepting of comfortable (if eccentric patterned after the name) high back chairs, no ambiance. Dinner was $70 (before tip) for a burger, soups and oysters, no alcohol but was charged unexpectedly for water. Did want to mention that the burger was good and would be a repeat and the complimentary hors d'oeuvre was delicious.

A lovely setting, delightful service and spectacularly delicious food. Add in a well-chosen wine list and reasonable prices, and this may well be the best restaurant in the Mid-Atlantic. Oh, yes, it also is quiet--not one of those places that tries to create "excitement" with music or noise.

We were staying at The Inn at Montchanin Village and, of course, did not want to miss the dining experience of Krazy Kat's, located on the Inn's property. Dinner began with the Hudson Bay Fois Gras which was very good. My husband had the Duck Ramen for his entree and I enjoyed the Salmon which is thoughtfully offered as a half or full order. The half order was perfect for me. We ended our meal with the cheese plate which contained interesting cheeses in just the right amount. Service was attentive. The dining room is softly lit with comfortable dining chairs at tables safely distanced in the dining room.

We visited Krazy Katz for dinner this past Saturday. Krazy Katz is the restaurant for the Hotel/Inn at Montchanin Village, a quaint 19th century small hotel & spa. We arrived an hour early and walked the very pretty grounds surrounding the Inn & restaurant. There's not alot of grounds to cover but it was a pretty walk just the same. You see gardens and 9 of the small homes that back in the day were for workers at the DuPont Powder mills. So quaint and pretty. Once we entered Krazy Katz, we were greeted warmly and escorted to our table. The Decor throughout is whimsical with paintings of cool cats and a dog here and there :). What a cute dining experience. Even their chairs have little animal foot prints on the upholstery. Due to Covid, there were only (8) tables in the restaurant. All were nicely distanced. There are tables in their sunroom, but we liked the warm, cozy dining room area and asked to sit there. Michelle was our waitress. She was soo nice and very knowledgeable of the menu. She paid attention to our request for a Gluten Free option that was required. Everything is prepared & cooked to order, so there was a little wait but it was well worth it! I had messaged thru their facebook page ahead of time of our Gluten Free requirement and the chef remembered us! Wow! Once Michelle took our order, the Chef made sure our meal was perfect, GF and every so tasty. We were so impressed! We ordered the beet/gorgonzola salad, Caesar salad and a Rockfish entree and Crab cakes. Soo good!! It was my husband and my birthday and our creme brulee dessert was complimentary. How nice! We had a wonderful birthday celebration and meal. Thank you Chef and thank you Michelle for a wonderful dinner and great service! We will be back and maybe next time for brunch and check that out too. 5Stars for Krazy Katz!

Went this evening to celebrate our anniversary! The staff was AMAZING and we gave them over 20 percent and very sanitary. The decor was great outside and in the lobby area, HOWEVER the windowed seating was VERY bland and outdated. Most of the entries: rack of lamb, cheese plate and creme brule were oustanding. However, I wanted to point out that the crab cakes were really underseasoned. (But cooked flawlessly.) Ironically, the risotto was phenominal! Would've been a 4 star for the two issues with the one plate and seating. But the staff gave us the desert at no charge, for our anniversary. That, and we had a good time. We'll return, for sure.
