We’ve been a couple times now and we’ve loved it both times. Food and drink have always been outstanding. Maria was our server on both occasions and was unfailingly fast, friendly, and helpful. We’ll continue bringing friends and family here as long we live in the area.

This restaurant used to be very good back in 2019. From that point on, consistency has been an issue. The service we got from the servers has always been outstanding. It is still a good place if you want to enjoy a traditional Ceviche. Unfortunately, the quality of the desserts have declined tremendously. I am Peruvian and a food snob. The owner of the place does not seem to take criticism well. It is a shame, so much potential.

As a Peruvian I can say that I was surprised, it's very good, like having lunch in some of the best restaurants of Lima or northern Peru where different dishes are prepared with passion and a special touch that recalled me the traditional Peruvian cuisine.

We met good friends for lunch at LaCanela at their recommendation, and the restaurant really came through: really comfortable seating and quiet…extremely attentive and friendly waiter…great food. I ordered the ceviche, which was as good or better than the ceviches I loved when I went to Peru…MUCH better than most in restaurants here; my wife ordered the Chicarrones de Cerdo (pork ribs); and we split an order of Causa de Pollo, a sort of layered “cake” of lime potato mash and Peruvian chicken salad. The Causa was a surprise hit for me…not only tasty, but delightful to look at. But I loved the ceviche. Nearly three hours later, after a luxurious conversation, we paid our check and put another lunch on our calendars for July. Totally satisfying.

Yesterday I attended with my family for the first time and we were delighted with the food, very delicious. In addition to the good service and attention they gave us. Without a doubt we will return soon and more often.

Really enjoyed my experience here, wife and I went based on a recommendation and had a great meal. The ceviche, Lomo Saltado, Seco were all really tasty and authentically Peruvian. Drinks were great too, the cocktails and the chicha morada! Highly recommended.

Stopped here for a late lunch and loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, very clean, romantic and warm. The drinks and food were absolutely delicious, authentically Peruvian including dishes sometimes hard to find in other Peruvian restaurants, such as the Chupe de camarón and Picarones! The service was wonderful and I definitely will be back!

We had a wonderful dinner for my friends Birthday at La Canela last Saturday. We were a party of 8 and loved our waiter. He was very attentive with us. The food was absolutely delicious, our whole group was loving the ceviche, el chupe, Lomo saltado, la trucha and the tres leches was a crowd pleaser for sure. We will definitely be back again.

I went there on Sunday with my husband and it seems that they were short of staff so there were tables really dirty and it took a little long for us to be treated by a server, once that he was there he did gave us a good service, just wished he wasn't that busy upstairs with the other server, you can tell there was only 2 servers for a 2 floors restaurant

Best Peruvian restaurant in the DMV, there is no comparison. The food brings me back to childhood flavors and grandma’s cooking. The ambiance is beautiful, a great date spot, and service is great. Oscar and Ronnie always give the best drinks and service. If you haven’t been, this place is a must go! The fusion, ceviche, and tallarines verdes are exceptional! You really can’t go wrong with anything you choose at La Canela!

We recently hosted a private luncheon at La Canela for ~30 people to celebrate a family milestone and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. From our initial online inquiry, Lilian was highly responsive over many emails, building a menu, reserving the full first floor area, and accommodating dietary restrictions. The event was being planned remotely so we didn't have a chance to visit the restaurant in advance and were hoping everything would work out as planned. And I'm happy to say it was far better than expected! The service team at La Canela were attentive from the start, helping guests get started with drinks while they waited, then kicking off service with a delicious ceviche wonton amuse-bouche. The plated lunch menu had a nice variety of offerings and the food was wonderful, with very large portions. The short ribs and the trout were among our family's favorites. We unexpectedly needed to order a few dishes that were not on the event menu and the team handled that seamlessly. Our party spent a lot of time talking and toasting the guest of honor, and we ultimately rang a bit longer than our reserved event time. Lilian and the staff were extremely gracious and worked so we could finish our dessert and close the event without being rushed out. Overall staff were so kind and accommodating of everyone; we felt welcome and they truly provided top notch service. None of us had ever dined at La Canela before and I imagine many people will return. Many thanks to the team for helping us celebrate a very special member of our family!

We’ve visited a few times and consistently enjoyed both the food and service. The beef heart is our favorite, but everything we’ve tried has been delicious. We wish they opened earlier for lunch, as my coworkers and I have considered getting lunch there, but we usually eat earlier. Highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to try something different in the area.

I highly recommend La Canela! The food, atmosphere, and staff are truly wonderful! My wife and I recently got married, doing a small (~20 person) wedding, and we chose La Canela for the reception. They have a semi-private upstairs that worked out great for our party. Lilian and the staff were so nice and accommodating for what we needed, and our guests really loved the food and atmosphere. I have tried the ceviche, Tomate palta, and the Lomo Saltado, and all were delicious. The street is closed off to traffic, so it's a really great place to have lunch or dinner and then walk around. I highly recommend it!

Wow, this place was amazing! Definitely check out this gem in Rockville. Service: We were seated immediately. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, and gave us recommendations on what to order. Food: For appetizers, we got the anticuchos and ceviche pescado - both were delicious and paired with amazing sauces. And the entrees.... Peruvian cuisine is one of my favorite and I wanted to look for a new restaurant to try with my husband in Rockville. I found La Canela searching on google maps and it had over 400 reviews with a rating over 4 stars so we decided to give it a try for date night. We came for dinner on a Saturday night around 6:30PM. The restaurant wasn’t busy and we were seated right away. While waiting for our food, we received a complimentary snack to try from the chef. It was fish ceviche in what looked like a fried wonton and it was quite delicious! My husband ordered a Sierra Nevada IPA for drinks and I tried their Pisco Strawberry Smash. My drink was the right amount of strong and reminded me of a margarita without the salt rim. For dinner, I ordered the Fettuccini a la Huancaína and my husband ordered the Pollo Saltado. The lomo saltado in my dish was perfectly seasoned but the fettuccini was not what I expected. I love huancaína sauce but this was more on the cheeser side and very thick in consistency. Needless to say, I didn’t finish the pasta portion on my dish. My husband said his pollo saltado was delicious. No complaints on his part about the food. Service was on the slower end of things. Although, we got seated very quickly - the waiters barely came around to check on us. It also seems, they all share the tables and we weren’t assigned a specific waiter. We had to ask for our check twice. The first waitress never brought the check so I was able to flag down a second waiter and he brought it to us. All in all, the food and drinks were delicious and we would definitely come back to eat here again. We loved everything we ordered. We've been wanting to come here for many, many years since we both love Peruvian food and we quickly came to realize what we've been missing. The anticuchos were exactly what I remember having in Lima many years ago. The octopus appetizer special was also terrific. The mixed seafood with rice was really good. All of the pisco flavored drinks (they have multiple) were fantastic. The desserts were to die for. The place has good food. The reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because one thing I really dislike is when the people that work in the business lies to a customer(s). When we sat down and looked at the menu, we noticed that the menu did not specified the % of tip charged to a party equal or greater to 5 people. We kindly asked our waiter for transparency in order to avoid an awkward situation when receiving the check and our waiter said it was 18% but when we received the check, they charged a straight 22%. As a customer they put you on an awkward position when you see the 22% instead of an 18%. This type of action is a low ball on a customer. I might understand a small businesses could be trying to recover from the pandemic loss of revenue but deceiving clients this way can produce greater revenue loss in the long term.
