An intimate atmosphere with live piano music. Staff are professional and friendly. The food is on another level. My date and I tried the veal medallions and roasted lamb loin and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The desserts, both the chocolate soufflé and honey bourbon crème brûlée, were some of the best we’ve ever had. Overall an incredible experience and we will be returning!

Poor to mediocre. We went here for our 12 year wedding anniversary and were very disappointed. We had the special appetizer with a scallop and puff pastry. The scallop was tough and overcooked. My wife had the lobster bisque, which had been sitting so long that it had a skin on top when it was served and tasted burnt. The beef tenderloin for two was bland and the soufflé was raw. When we asked about it we were told the chef didn’t agree but the table next to us had three soufflés with the top still in tact, whereas the one we were served collapsed at first bite. The waiter threw our check at us and didn’t even mention the experience. At no time did the waiter ask if we enjoyed our food. The bus boy chatted with us more than the wait staff. I did ask for the manager on the way out but was told one wasn’t available. Please save yourself the time and money.

I had heard so much about the restaurant, was looking forward to the great meal. While the service was great, the food was mediocre at best. The presentation was terrible for the main dishes. I had the soft shell crab which was terrible. The food was served cold and tasted as if it were cooked a day earlier. Absolutely terrible for a $49 dish. My companions were equally disappointed with mussels, steak and chicken. This is the first negative review I have posted for a restaurant ever.

This is the 2nd time I have taken my students as a field trip and they topped the incredibly high standards set last year. The food, the ambience, the generosity and the patience the service staff showed us was nothing short of phenomenal and I can't wait to go again next year. The students were raving about the food on the bus ride back so thank you, because almost all the students have never had French cuisine before and so their first impression of it is going to be hard to top. Special thank you to Amin for always treating us with a smile and grace even under such stressful circumstances and Prasad for checking on in the kids. Merci beaucoup!

A “local” neighborhood dinning spot that owes nothing to any of the other places downtown. The service is gentle and engaged, the food is delicious and intense, and even better, the atmosphere is relaxed and warmly welcoming. There is a wonderful hearth fire, if you like, but we preferred to eat on the covered patio which is more intimate and quieter.

The ample parking lot is the best thing I can say about La Ferme. I love French cuisine and restaurant ambience normally. Hard to go wrong. So maybe they just had a bad day. But I was at a business lunch with a contact who had suggested the place bcs of proximity to their work. Therefore, I didn’t feel it appropriate to register a complaint on the spot. Otherwise, I would have sent back my food. I only took 2 bites bcs it was SOAKED in some sauces with wilted/dead vegetables - so I hardly remember what the plate even was. But I think it was supposed to be some sort of grilled fish. I know it was supposed to be grilled, but it had a burned flavor. Seriously awful. 😢 We spent almost $100 for just two entrees. Not even a drink or coffee. No other sides. And unfortunately I left hungry - with an expensive bill for what we got. Waiter did not even ask me why my plate was still full. And the other person didn’t want appetizer or dessert, so I didn’t have a chance to eat anything-:(. The parking and older clientele must be why they are still in business. But with so much fabulous competition today, they better step up their food and service game if they hope to go into the next decade.

This restaurant was not happy with our tip value and told us it was too little, it was our first night in the US. They (the maitre d’) was rude and kept us in the restaurant and would not let us leave - all other diners had left by this point. The maitre d’ insisted on a value that made the tip nearly 32% of the bill and we repeatedly told him no that was not ok and we did not authorise it. We also told him he was making us uncomfortable with how he was being towards us. The waiter, who had served us all evening, said he would adjust the bill to a lower value which was 26% - this was the lowest they would go. The receipt we were given was for this lower value. Lo and behold our card bill is now through and they have charged us the higher value which is equivalent to 32%. If you want a pleasant evening spoilt by rude staff at the end, who are confrontational and unpleasant, not constructive and explaining, and who then over charge you this is the place for you. If not, perhaps try somewhere else. We had accepted and understood paying the higher amount (compared to our original value) but charging more than authorised, and different than the receipts provided, is NOT ok. This is now going through our credit card company…

What a disappointing night for dinner. Our first night in Washington, and when the check came (delivered not requested) we asked if service was included. They said no. We asked them to make the bill 225. They came back and presented a bill which said 255 on it - no communications, not what we had asked. No issues all night understanding our food or drink orders... A man then came and said tips are 15-20%. The waiter said “you said 255 didn’t you?” “No, we said 225 please.” Dinner quality was good, but mains arrived when we were still eating starters and desserts arrived when still eating mains which made things feel time pressured. From doing the maths afterwards, we'd tipped 15%. A man who we had not all seen all evening, same as aforementioned, presumably a manager (in a shirt with a ponytail), then came over and told us we would be paying $255 and that was that, we were not tipping enough. He refused to let us leave the restaurant. He kept listing all the things they had to pay for and we suggested if they had a minimum tip amount they should put onto the bill / menu so people know what to expect rather than making people feel uncomfortable, and we explained that was how he was making us feel - and that we'd done what we thought was right. We didn't mention the food or service, just that we thought we had added a tip but we weren't comfortable with him telling us what we would pay (and not returning our card). As an aside, everywhere else we ate in the US either put it on their menu OR had it on the menu and on the check with calculated values - much more helpful. We explained we had checked with the waiter if service was included and he said no and therefore we had given him a value. The waiter said he would change it to 20% not the 25% we were being charged and the manager said no to the waiter… we were paying 25% service and that was that (he had started at 30%). I asked him not to spoil what had been a pleasant evening until then and repeatedly told him how he was making me uncomfortable (man in his 50s standing over a woman aka me in her 30s). It was our first night in the US and googling now shows 15, 18, 20, 22% as tip rates so really varies. We now need to wait for the card bill to see what actually comes through as we have three different receipts - and none signed! Whether it is right or not, being held hostage in a restaurant is not the way to deal with things - it could have been handled SO much better on the restaurant's side, the comms and body language etc was so wrong. All other customers had left which made it feel even more uncomfortable and threatening. From googling afterwards, we had a 7.30pm table and they closed at 8.30pm which I didn't know until after looking following this incident. If they had told us when I booked over email that booking an hour before they closed for three courses would not work or let us know the closure time, we could have adjusted. As it was, I thought 7.30pm was a reasonable time to book dinner not knowing they seem to close early.

La Ferme Restaurant is located in a residential neighborhood, with dark and narrow streets, hard to find without Google Maps at night. There are plenty of parking spaces on the side and back. Not much change since we were there in more than fifteen years, old school with piano music. My favorite appetizers are the Oyster Stew with bacon, leeks and potatoes, and the Escargots. The Calf Liver and Chateaubriand are our favorite entrees, and the Poached Pear with vanilla ice cream is the best dessert.

I don’t understand why this place is so popular, but maybe it’s better for carnivores. My one vegetarian option was a plate with three ravioli, ostensibly wild mushroom but actually mostly filled with some type of cheese (possibly ricotta) and zero flavor. Three only, hard around the edges, and the plate was filled out with lots of nearly-raw pecans and a bit of shredded Brussels sprouts and cheese. Lousy/bland and a colossal waste of money. The rest of the table was chatting a lot whilst eating so maybe they didn’t care about the food!!!! Servers kept reaching over and between us and gave several plates out incorrectly, including mine. This place needs a massive overhaul but since they are well-patronized, they don’t seem to care about quality at all.

Went for Sunday Brunch with friends. It's a lovely restaurant virtually hidden away in a quiet and picturesque residential part of town. There is ample parking behind the restaurant. This is such a relic of a bygone era. QUIET! An attribute I find to be exceedingly rare these days. Very nicely appointed, with a Provencal flair. Subdued, with a quiet elegance might be how to best describe the atmosphere. The wait staff is excellent. Very professional. But the food here shines as well as the atmosphere. Everything we had was excellent. Escargot with a filo shell was so full of individual flavors and textures. Salmon was not overwhelmed by the delicate (and I might add, was not separated) Hollandaise. Omelette? Excellent. Crispy croissants. We all indulged in a Bloody Mary, which we asked for "spicy," and came with a perfect level of spice! There is a side room that is glassed in, which I imagine must be noisier, owing to the glass walls and solid floor. But worst of all, from my point of view, was that the room was dominated by a large screen television – which is nothing but a distraction from time with friends or family. This is an excellent place to break bread, and engage in conversation with people you love, or even people who you just enjoy being with.

Great food and atmosphere. However, the French bread is really too hard to bite. Most part of bread is outside hard shell, and there is almost no soft part even inside. These hard part would harm the teeth, especialy I saw most customers are older people. If you could make better bread (other restaurants made crispy and bitable French bread well), it would not waste so much. See the photo.

Decided to have Valentine’s Day dinner here. Had heard friends say they enjoyed it. The restaurant decor is stuck in a time warp but is cozy and romantic if all the elements work together. First, they didn’t have any record of our reservation, which was made by phone about 5 weeks ago because the restaurant is not on Open Table and you are directed to call to make reservations. Eventually the manager came over after the host couldn’t find our reservation and told him to seat us. We were seated in a booth in the back of the restaurant, which was fine. The waiter was most unfriendly. Basically announced that it was a pre fixe menu and all he needed to know from us was our appetizer and entrée selection, everybody got the same dessert. Very poor table side manner. Other staff were more amenable. About twenty minutes into the meal, 2 other couples were seated at a table next to us. Lovely African American couples, and my husband and I are African American as well. Very interesting since there were very few African Americans in the restaurant. I love being around other African Americans, so that wasn’t a problem. What was a problem was the restaurant seating us all together as if to separate us from others. There were plenty of other available tables. Please don’t tell me they were colorblind! The food was good but not extraordinary. We were in and out in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Would have liked to enjoy a more leisurely pace but didn’t feel welcome. P.s. my husband and I ordered cocktails and he was disappointed in the liquor choices. Not stop shelf at all. I am not an alcohol expert so my Cosmopolitan was fine. Will not be going back. Too many other places where our business is appreciated. We tried not to let the experience ruin our Valentine’s Day but truthfully, I have had better celebrations in the past.

Had to cut our lunch short as a roach decided to run across our table while we waited for our appetizer. The staff of this place didn't even offer an apology, only citing nonchalantly, "this has never happened before." Forewarned is fair warned if anyone reading this chooses to dine here.

Upon being seated at La Ferme and shortly after our cocktails arrived, a large cockroach proceeded to walk across our table and over our wine glasses and my purse and then down the tablecloth. It was practically on me so as I jumped up looking to alert the staff, they were completely rude and unapologetic! I was stunned that it appeared to be acceptable to have roaches running around. They offered to seat us somewhere else but essentially made us feel as if we were the ones overreacting when we insisted on leaving. TERRIBLE service, UNSANITARY conditions, fair warning to anyone dining here. Mind you, I had been here twice before, and while service was extremely ordinary - never had any issues with the food and conditions until now. Rude people, I will never return to this wannabe french spot - o stars

Had a very lovely pre-Christmas dinner with dear friends here last week. The roaring fire in the fireplace, amply spaced tables, and most of all excellent food were worth the hike from Prince George's County to Chevy Chase. I had the lobster bisque to start and a ravioli with roasted Brussel sprouts and balsamic glaze. Topped off with a lovely creme brule'. This is a gem of a French restaurant. Will definitely be back.
