We walked in and the smell of mildew was so bad I choked. We had to leave immediately. We couldn’t even stay to try the food.

Beautiful place. Food was the best I've had in a long time. Service was amazing. Shout out to Carlos or waiter he was great!

A quaint restaurant with a friendly owner. All 4 of had the rib-eyes and they were really delicious. We shared a few laughs with the owner.

They have an American and a Mexican menu. Ordered the special of the day, which was chicken tacos. No flavor at all. Clearly not Mexican.

Found this little place on GPS- sat down with 3 min until closing (unknown to us). They were so friendly and reassured us it was fine and the food was delicious! Would recommend to everyone!

Wonderful restaurant in downtown Magnolia. Service was great and the food was excellent.

My coworkers and I were in town for work and our first dining option was permanently closed (we didn’t know until we were at the location). We searched for another dining option and was intrigued with La Mariposa’s menu items, so we went. We all loved the environment created by the atmosphere and the staff. The atmosphere was very welcoming and our server provided the kind of service and professionalism you would expect from a michelin star restaurant. Food was really, really good. To find such menu items in a small town was very surprising, but the taste was even more surprising. I had the hamburger steak which was perfect to me: perfectly grilled on the outside for that slightly charred flavor and soft, tender inside full of seasoning and awesome flavor but not at all salty. The prices were very reasonable as well! So earlier I mentioned we were in town for work. I needed my receipt to be able to be reimbursed by my workplace; however, I forgot my receipt. Mr. Carlos to the rescue! I contacted them the next night and explained my situation. Mr. Carlos was very attentive and patient and was so very considerate and understanding. Without hesitation, he stopped what he was doing to help me with my ridiculous request. Thanks to his help, I was able to get the receipts I needed. Amazing restaurant with amazing food with even more than amazing staff and management. By the way, even the side salad was top notch!

La Mariposa has become a Saturday night treat. They have a GREAT ribeye and the Colombian potatoes are my recommended side.

I literally COULD NOT have enjoyed any more. Brought my granny here for her 77 and let me tell you the food was AMAZING and the owner was EVERYTHING!

I haven't dined in only take out. It's really quite and cozy. Their food is amazing and their waiters/waitresses are very polite and friendly.

This is a bar that serves food. The quality is the best in Magnolia which is Chef Boyardee style. Drink up and you will not be so disappointed. Other wise, travel a little for better food.

The ambience is superb. A person feels right at home. It's a school reunionand family reunion. The food is great. Thursday night is Mexican. The salsa will make you never to have another salsa anywhere else.

The owner,Mercedes is a Hoot. She knows Everyone and is a Joy to talk and joke around with. Restaurant is Exceptionally clean , Inviting and spacious. I would Recommend this Cozy Home place to anyone local or not to go and eat there. The Menu makes your Mouth Water.

It's not fast food so don't expect that. It's good quality food that you won't have buyers remorse over. The atmosphere is an eclectic everyone's welcome vibe. It's small town and big city cafe. The fried green tomatoes are quite the dream. It's a great place for libations with great food. Well worth the money. Don't miss out those oion rings and be adventurous and try the Bailey's Blue Chips... your taste buds will thank you.

Great service and food. We were just passing through and didn't realize they have a Mexican menu on Thursday's. Host happily brought an American menu upon request and followed that up with a 3rd menu with specialized burgers on it. Servings were filling and best part was they had fried mushrooms with a light, non-greasy batter. VERY GOOD!

Went for Mother's Day. Had reservation for 12:30. Half of our party went in early and ordered and got their food in a timely manner. We went in at 12:20, got our drinks ordered, and said give us just a minute until we order. Thirty minutes later, I had to ask one of the wait staff twice to please take our orders. Orders were taken by 1:00, 1:15, maybe. Restaurant was very busy. By 2:30, we had still not gotten our food and every other table in the restaurant had had orders taken and food delivered after we had placed our order. In some instances, at least an hour after our orders were taken. By this time, the owner could tell we were getting frustrated and came to our table and told us we were lucky we had at least gotten our salads. Said they were very backed up. Now mind you, people had come in an hour after us, ordered and been served their food and we were still waiting. By 2:30, I had gotten mad enough, I told my son that if one more table got served before us, I would leave. Another table got served, I left. Talked to my son later, the food was not served to our table until 3:00, mind you our reservation was for 12:30. There was not much of a selection on the menu, so it should not have been that hard to get our food ready. Will never go there again.

Good service and good food. I had the Mexican food, but I intend to go back and sample some of the creole menu items.

The only reason I am giving them a one Star is because by the time they finally got our order right only and we asked to get it to go because we have already been there over an hour they only charged us for the fried tomatoes appetizer that we actually got to enjoy. They were not busy and our order was not the only one that was wrong. Food was delicious but would have loved to have enjoyed eating it there instead of having to reheat it at home. Need better training for the staff or maybe replace them.

If I could have given more than 5, i would have! A small gem of a restaurant snuggled into the little town of Magnolia,MS. Warm atmosphere, wonderful staff, and great food. The salad had dried carrot strips on it with a chunky bleu cheese dressing. Delicious! Followed by the Sunday special, angel hair pasta with fried green tomatoes, crawfish, and mushrooms in a light sauce. Will definitely be back!

My wife and I were travelling from Louisiana to Jackson, and decided to stop in Magnolia to grab a bite to eat. We were surprised to find a restaurant so stylish and uncommon as La Mariposa. The atmosphere was uniquely relaxed and bohemian, and the menu was diverse and inspired. We sat adjacent to a window, and had a lovely view of Magnolia's sunny streets. The quality of our food was excellent, smelled and tasted fresh and clean. We spoke briefly with the owner, who was warm and welcoming. We found ourselves not wanting to leave, for how pleasant the experience was. I'd absolutely recommend this restaurant, and i intend to return very soon.

This litte Cafe in historic Magnolia is a must place to eat. Her shrimp n grits is superb...can't be beat. Her staff is as friendly and diligent as they come. A true diamond of the south.

Magnolia, MS is small, but Sweet atmosphere! Servers were awesome & the menu was a mix that made it difficultto decide! The shrimp & corn bisque was delish! Will be back!

Love the colorful walls, butterflies 🦋 and photograph over the fireplace. Their Shrimp and Corn bisque is amazing.. Had the California Burger and they made it on Romain lettuce (as a request) with side of sweet potato fries. With ice cold beer. Perfect Saturday lunch.

Almost 4 stars. It is quite a place. The owner is very out going. I have added they also have daily specials that change daily. My son-in-law says the shrimp do not know what the inside of a freezer looks like.

First visit, great service, tasty food! Fried Green Tomatoes very delicious! Will visit again........Visited again, ate fried green tomatoes again; yum! yum! My daughter ate Gumbo (a second time?) She loved it!! Ordered a salad (without meat). Very tasty, but too costly for the size! $11 plus, will NOT order again!!........Visited yet again, and pleased to say the dishes we ordered before were very good!! A "good" restaurant is always consistent!!

Food is creative. Prices fair. Portions fair. Decorations are nice but the Men’s bathroom has no toilet, just a urinal. I am glad it is in downtown Magnolia. It is a good “anchor” for the downtown.

Best place to spend your day sharing good food with good friends and laughing with the best of staff, plus Mercedes herself, owner of La Mariposa, will provide you a very good memory of a great meal and great time. Y'all be sure to visit!!

Best kept secret in Magnolia we found! Service is outstanding sweet tea is delicious! Good is absolutely the best!! We are from TN but my son in law knows of it so we had to try it!! So glad we did!!

It was phenomenal atmosphere and the food was sooo good. Very friendly and great place to enjoy a great roast beef po-boy. That is not easy to find but if you want a good one go to La Mariposa.

An insider tip for travelers from New Orleans to Memphis! We found this restaurant by chance - it was worth it! Very good food - our burger was fresh and delicious... by the way there is a big burger menu! Exceptionally friendly service - the staff was charming and helpful! Parking lots directly in front of the house... Fabric napkins - extraordinary

We were there with classmates from NP class of 1968 for a lunch meeting. The service and food was fantastic. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. Thank you Mercedes Rick's and crew for making it memorable.

There is a wealth of culinary skills located in this quiet little town. Everything we ate was of the highest quality. Awesome bloody mary, onion rings and poppers like I've never had before and then the fried shrimp NOLA poboy with fried okra and then the strawberry cheesecake. And a pic with the owner and Chef! What a special place!

Family went Saturday night. Specialty hamburgers are always awesome or you can order off the regular menu. The favorite of the night was a shrimp poboy with mushroom sauce. Salads are the best around. Always fresh ingredients. Topped with fried sweet potato strips. I always add the avocado. Everyone in our family, as always, considers this the best food in Pike County.

Very nice place with good ambience, helpful staff, and great food. A little on the pricey side I thought but all in all a great experience. I plan on going back. I had the half shrimp po boy with fries and a cup of soup, sweet tea, $22 bucks.

First time eating here and the food was good. For a appetizer we had the Jalapeno poppers.Entrees: I had the Nola Po-boy which consisted of fried shrimp(blackened or grilled) with crawfish mushroom sauce and French fries. My husband had the Roast beef po-boy with sauteed vegetables which he ate all of. The atmosphere was cozy and the staff were very pleasant. I would definitely eat there again and recommend it.

I drive 45 minutes to eat here regularly, every nightly menu is excellent. and always great drink specials. no matter if its a family night or a date night this is the place to go.

We found this great place. Food was fresh, handmade, and served by very friendly staff. They have several menus and Mexican is on Thursday night. The chef is Columbian and came out to greet us. Worth the drive.

I recently visited this restaurant and it took me by surprise. I enjoyed it! It has funky decor, but very cute. The menu looked so good, I had a very hard time deciding what to order. We ended up ordering jalepeno peppers, those were very good! I had the pasta, which was delicious. Will be Back again!

The onion rings were amazing as well—tasted like my grandma’s! Truly a hidden gem. Our family stopped on our way to New Orleans, and we can’t wait to go back!

I'm from the coast and was up on the area for business and found this place to stop for lunch. I had the potato balls with chicken and they were amazing!!! I told my boyfriend about them and the next time im up there will definitely be stopping in to try something new and bring some potato balls home.

My mom and I came here to have a messy roast beef poboy! And this place did not disappoint! The sandwich was amazing, the potato ball things we also ordered were really amazing, too. Would certainly come again, the service was spot on and the atmosphere was really great, felt very homey!
