Not particularly professional to refuse dining at 130pm on a Sunday just because you were slow. People rely heavily on your hours listed on YOUR website and Google. It states 10am-9pm, not, we take a look at you upon arrival and decide to close because we don't value your business. We've also been refused a reservation to accommodate a 10 top over a month out, poor responsiveness from a manager that is purportedly related to the owners. Sad professional degradation of a Chapel Hill fixture that used to be a respected place of elegance.

This place is as close to perfect as you're like to get 'round these parts. The food was amazing, the service was top notch, and everything was haute but without the hautier than thou attitude. If you've never been, now's the time.

Food was very good. Bartenders did not cheat on the drinks.

Friday night. Walked in. Sat at a bench seat table. Uncomfortable. Handed a sheet of printed paper menu, reused. One other couple seated at next table. No one else in the restaurant. Friday at 7pm. Excused ourselves and walked out. Every other restaurant we tried to get into after we left was fully booked! Graduation weekend. And this place is empty? Proceed with caution here.

We came for Easter brunch with family after church. Delicious and excellent prices for such a nice brunch atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

I really enjoyed my dinner here last night! This restaurant is located in what used to be an old home and it is cozy and quaint. My waiter was very nice and attentive and my meal was delicious. I tried the scallops and they were some of the best I’ve had along with a delicious salad with candied walnuts and feta cheese. I topped it off with a perfect cappuccino.

I hadn’t been to la rez in many years. Went with 10 people last night. One meatless dish on the menu ( no veggie plate by the chef, etc). And it was several dollars more expensive than their online menu said. Nothing comes with entree… no salad, no bread, no veggie. At the end, waiter said he could not divide check into couples or singles ( because of the computer!??). Only could divide it 5 or 6 ways evenly! Not happening. Said it wasn’t likely to change either. What???? We ended up standing at the cash register with wads of cash in our hands like you do at Waffle House! So unprofessional and unacceptable! In this day and age of credit cards! Attitude was lazy! If we’d come in separately he would have given us separate checks. Not sure why they are living in the dark ages. Left hungry and so disappointed! One and done for us! You can get an $18 burger elsewhere and use your credit card! We did like the private room.

Brunch menu items that were worth the money: beignets (YUM), croque madame Brunch menu items that were disappointing: chicken and waffle (worse quality than a Waffle House with syrup in a plastic cup), mimosas (overpriced, underwhelming) Service was good and it’s a pretty restaurant. The actual brunch menu was all crumpled. If you get there around 1-1:10 the kitchen may be closed already, so make sure to go earlier.

Love La Res late nights. I finally made it during daylight hours and can attest that the food is just as good.

Food wasn't great. Bacon was way overcooked. I live crispy but this was hard. Eggs didn't have much flavor at all. Just bland. The grits however were excellent. Just didn't match the price. Looked awesome but didn't taste great.

My experience at La Residence was a mostly conflicting one -- the beautiful New Orleans-styled walled-in garden patio, charming decor, and exceptional service make for an ideal brunch atmosphere. What brought the experience down was the quality of the meal itself. We had the croque madame, beignets, and the decidedly less French huevos rancheros -- which easily outshined the largely disappointing French options. The croque madame featured a strange grayish roast pork rather than ham. The béchamel was bland and really only served to make the bread soggy and white. The eggs crowning the sandwich were perfectly cooked and pleasant, however. The rest of the food, while inoffensive, wasn't particularly inspiring. On the other hand our waitress, Cameron, was absolutely excellent -- she was attentive, fun, and knowledgeable about the menu. All of that said, I wouldn't necessarily recommend La Residence against the myriad excellent brunch options in the triangle, but isn't at the bottom of my list, either.

Yumm Yumm. WE stopped here on our way home from the beach. It was awesome. We ordered off the Brunch menu, crab Benedict, chicken n waffles, and my daughter ordered the s’mores French toast. Everything was overly delicious and we emptied our plates!

Limited menu but what we had was absolute delicious. Possibly the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had. My husband had scallops which he also said were great. Johnny was our server and he was very attentive and friendly.

We had a terrific dinner and excellent, friendly service. We’ll be back!

We ate here on Valentine's Day and it was mediocre at best. Parsnip soup was overly sweet, the filet mignons were covered in a Salvation-Army quality sauce, and right near the end of dinner we saw a giant roach strolling across the wall towards my date. She did look fantastic. The manager did not offer to comp even a single drink, and his explanation was that it's an old building. It was hard to tell what this meant exactly, but it definitely seemed as if roaches had gained acceptance at this restaurant. They should at least give them their own dining room. We have never been to La Residence so we decided to go for my birthday! It was very cozy and our waitress was wonderful. My wife had the Shrimp & Grits without bacon for $23. I had the Hanger Steak dinner for $29. It had no potato choice which was disappointing. The side was an Arugula salad with cheese on top. The dressing was already added and was a citrusy vinaigrette. However the dressing got on my steak and it was not enjoyable. I did not eat the arugula. Luckily my wife had an ample portion of Shrimp & Grits to share with me. The steak was cooked perfectly and I did enjoy that. I ordered the Chocolate Tort for dessert and they put a candle it for me! The tort was excellent! We’ll come back when they change the menu again. We are early birds and were the first to walk in today (Sunday). The brunch alternatives were wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent. Stopped here on a Friday night around 8pm. It was practically empty with about 6-8 other people there dining. Service was friendly. Food coming out was oddly slow given how many people were there. We were a group of 12 seeking a dinner venue in close proximity to the AC Hotel in Chapel Hill. Finding a good restaurant that will take a large party on a Friday evening (our booking was originally for 15) is not easy, but La Residence was happy to accommodate us. We had our own private room located within the building (it was definitely too hot, in the mid-90’s, to be seated outside). The food, including appetizers, was excellent and the service attentive. Especially notable were the crab cakes, fried green tomatoes, the pan seared scallops, the duck breast and the risotto. Also on the menu was poutine-a bit of a surprise to the Canadians in our party. This restaurant is a bit pricy by North Carolina standards, but a relative bargain for those of us from Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Toronto. I’m a regular and unabashed fan of this Chapel Hill/Carrboro dining option. The charcuterie plate is arguably the best in the area. The fried green tomatoes and any of their numerous tomato-themed starters are excellent. (The chef nearly always featured tomato based specials during the season.) My ‘go to’ main course is almost always the duck breast—I think it’s about the best I’ve ever had. But the truffle risotto and the filet mignon are my wife’s favorites. This is a family owned restaurant with multiple generations active throughout the operation, so the service is often beyond exceptional and knowledgeable. Don’t sleep on La Res.

We are regulars at this local fine dining spot. It’s a real ‘sleeper’ in terms of their evening fare. (Best duck in Chapel Hill. Charcuterie plate is always a winner.) Weekend brunch is a new extension to the restaurant. We have become regulars and welcome this new option to the nice range available in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Durham. For the money it’s hard to find a better value. The combination of really original and local options runs the gamut from healthy (exquisite avocado spread on toast w a kale salad) to indulgent (French toast with a Nutella and marshmallow spread). The GOAT Bloody Mary may actually be the GOAT according to my husband but I go with the mimosas. And wonderful service!

I had always wanted to come here when I was at UNC-CH, because I had heard great things about this place. I did not have a lot of extra funds as a student, so I never got the chance. Thirty years later I had my chance. We were staying at the hotel next door and I looked at the menu as we were walking back to the hotel on Friday afternoon. The menu looked a little pricey, but I wanted to go. The menu posted outside was the dinner menu. When we went inside, we discovered that the lunch menu was very reasonable. In two visits in the last two months, La Residence has offered a nicely varied menu, excellent food, service that can't be topped, and atmosphere that's elegant but very comfortable. Food that's locally sourced means freshness that is hard to beat. The wait staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly without "joining" the table. Besides a large wine selection and standard cocktails, there is a refreshing list of specialty cocktails. Parking is not a problem as there is a municipal garage right across the street. I'm already looking forward my next visit.

I was married in a ceremony at La Residence on May 28, 2017. The staff assisted us with setting up the schedule. The day of the wedding, they decorated, set up the ceremony area, hosted a cocktail hour to allow time to change the setup from a ceremony to dining. The food - filet mignon and wild Alaskan salmon - was excellent and the staff very attentive. The wines they recommended were perfect. The guest were very impressed and so were we. We did not have to worry about anything except saying our vows and spending time with our family and friends. Friends and I went to La Residence last night and had a wonderful experience. The service was friendly and very attentive. The food was great! I had the salmon main entree which was well-flavored and crispy on the outside. The green beans were perfectly prepared. The au gratin potatoes lovely. Nice caesar salad. Friends had she crab soup which they raved about. The wine was very nice. And, of course, we shared a creme brulee which was also perfectly prepared. Why did I not know about this place? The prices were also reasonable...especially considering the white table cloths and great piano-bar-like music. Parking in a garage right across from the restaurant or down the side street. This place is a gem!

The food was good but it was kinda weird being the only couple in the entire place for the entire time we were there. We were told this place was a club later at night. We frequent this longstanding establishment in the heart of Chapel Hill a handful of times each year. Our visit this time was like the others: a wonderful dining experience in a cozy intimate venue. We sat out on their porch and ordered charcuterie for starters and moved on to steak frites and shrimp and grits. Both were marvelous. Our experience is that the staff at this restaurant is pretty stable, knowledgable and professional. Invariably the point us to the best selection on that particular evening. We are looking forward to the evolving menu, particularly as the restaurant harvests their home grown crop of heirloom tomatoes--to die for during the late summer months. If you are from Chapel Hill and haven't been a regular, we'd say put this spot back on your list. If you're from out of town, make a visit for the great food and extraordinary setting.

The food, service (especially) and ambiance were all terrific. This was our first time visiting this restaurant but we will be back. We ate dinner on a Sunday night after school was out and I just hope the great service doesn't suffer once they get busy again. There is a reason they've been in business for 40 years!!

The menu varies depending upon the availability of fresh ingredients. We enjoyed the traditional Beef Burgundy, and most likely the BEST I've every experience (including Paris). The Duck dish was equally excellent. Sides were well prepared and went well with the flavors. Dessert, of course, has to be Crème Brulee! They have a good wine selection, but "by the glass" is a more limited selection than you expect. Service was prompt, knowledgeable and attentive. [I suppose that actually is better than being in France!] Zeke had good recommendations, and made sure that all went well with the dining experience. Extra bread, whatever request, was quickly solved. Thank you Zeke! It is a classy place, with real tablecloths, etc. Advise reservations for the busy times on campus, and certainly not for small kids.

Food was ok. Wine list is terrible. First wine recommended was undrinkable. Second was barely drinkable. Wines are listed with varietal name that makes one think they are imported, but almost all are California (we were told that imported wines are "too expensive" and California wines are "half the price and just as good"). Service was good.

Filet mignon was amazing! Better than high end steak houses. Green fried tomatoes were not so good. Staff was fantastic. Will definitely dine at La Resideence again!

This is hands down the most romantic restaurant in the Triangle.

During Parents Weekend, we enjoyed drinks and conversation. Going early in the evening to get a great table and drinks before the crowd hits is a good idea. Fun college scene bar/restaurant even though the drafts are fairly limited. The patio/outdoor enclosed area to the side of the main restaurant is a fun place to talk. Friendly bartenders.

I remember this restaurant from 10 or 12 years ago, when it was more fine dining based and offered a tremendous wine list. Now It is much simpler food for a lot smaller crowd and more geared for it's late night bar crowd.

Couple of thoughts Pulled pork was disappointing, I was expecting a more smoky, vinegary taste. No sauce was served to complement it. Shrimp and grits were tasty. Cole slaw was flavorless, maybe because it needed a good stir before serving. Cucumbers and vinegar were wonderful....

This isn't an inventive restaurant. It's predictable. But the food is good, the dining room is quiet, and it's a great place to visit with your party.
