This dump is a joke I ate in this chain countless times and the one in Christiana since it opened in 2012. I tried to eat there Sunday September 1,2024 and got sat down by a hostess that came to my table 30secs later to tell me I would have to clear out by 8:30pm. I arrived at 7:48pm online and advertised on there door it states open till 9pm Sunday I asked if I was eating what that would mean she claimed I would need to leave by 8:30 making it impossible to order wait for food to be prepared and eat. The girl was very rude I walked out to check what it said online and walked back in to explain the hostess completely ignored me and continued about what she was doing. I guess maybe new ownership or quality has went down hill.

Love the authentic feel from the furniture and decor. Fast service, great food and drinks.

I literally just walked out of this restaurant. This is my first time at this location and I thought I would give it a try this evening. I was looking forward to enjoying their chicken fajitas. The chicken was really tender and it definitely came out piping hot. They didn’t serve it with any cheese and I did double check that most restaurants do serve their fajitas with cheese. So after waiting about 20 minutes for my server to come back by my table so I can order a drink, I grabbed one of the other staffers to see if they could go ahead and grab me a small plate to assemble the fajitas and a soda that I had been waiting for after seeing the waiter walked past me six times and never deliver any of the items to me.m, along with some shredded cheese. What is worse? Is that the same server I had to grab to get me the plate and the drink that I’ve been waiting a while for even after putting my drink on the edge of the table for him to clearly see that I had no soda in the glass she came back by to ask me if I wanted another drink. I’m like ‘yes’. She grabbed one of the glasses and got me more soda. Now I’m not going to put it on her but instead of grabbing a fresh glass from the back, I ended up with that same glass, with the same melted ice cubes in it so it wasn’t a good glass of soda like the previous two at all. My original server comes back by and asks if everything was okay with the food and I asked him for a box. I sat there 10+ after getting the box because clearly if I’m asking for a box that means I’m ready or I’m ready for dessert. So I got up and asked the person at the front to please get my check so I can pay and leave. He grabs it and my waiter comes along to get the check. I look at the total of the check and I see I am charged for the shredded cheese, the cost of a bag at the store for the little bit of cheese I needed and used. Had I known that I would have taken all the shredded cheese that they gave me. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because when I first came in, there was a large birthday party there but other than that there was only a handful of us there eating. The party came to an end within the first 20 minutes of me sitting at the table. The waiter seemed like a nice person but I’ve never had to sit there that long like that after asking for a drink and a plate to actually get it. All 6-10 times of him walking past me he was barely doing a thing and it wasn’t like he had anything g other than a cloth in his hand. So it was like ‘Did you forget?!’ and if so I’m sitting at one of his tables and he can clearly look over and see that I’m barely eating because I’m waiting on these items. Idk, this is probably a one-and-done for me and I wish them the best. To charge me for the cheese after that poor service is crazy and I didn’t even get to leave a tip because he did nothing but bring me two drinks, the others did more than he did. As a single person, you sometimes want to go out and enjoy yourself and feel good but this just made my night worse because of the experience. Just not what I expect.

I sat at the bar and I asked for a specific drink and Rubi asked me all the right questions. Rubi mixed the best drink, I have had in a long time. My fajitas arrived very quickly and perfectly, there was enough for two people for sure. Rubi, thank you for taking great care of me. I am passing through Newark Delaware and I have found a gem for sure!

We got a house pitcher of margaritas very good. We also got to eat. We shared it, and it was huge. The Hawaiian Quesadilla very good authentic

Definitely like coming home. Food comes out hot and delicious. Servers are more like family. Rudy has an amazing personality and we always ask for her ❤️

I've been here twice and I definitely love their drinks!! Gotta be careful with them lol. Food is pretty good, my boyfriend really liked his enchiladas. Seemed like they do parties, I think there was one when we went and looked fun too.

Almost double the price of the other tonalteca locations like rehoboth, Millsboro and Milford.. bola chile dip here is $11 and the other locations it’s $6. Scam!

Tasty dinner at a reasonable price. The service was a bit slow when we were there on a weekday.

We have been here plenty of times with a big group of us. Service than was amazing and food. Tonight my older son and I come in for dinner. The server Janet seems like it’s an inconvenience for us to be there. She dropped a box off at the table with no care in the world. Dropped the check off and than sat at a booth until I had to grab another servers attention. I know serving can be hard at times but I would’ve rather we had a server who wanted to make their money rather someone who didn’t care!

Veg Tamales, 💯! The food was much better than I remember, so, yay, but service was s.l.o.w. Possibly because we were one of 2 large parties? But, it was one of those times we would have enjoyed dessert, but after 2 hours at the table for dinner, no apps, we weren't even offered dessert, so, booo.

Came for Mother’s Day. Walked over to the bar to grab a seat however was immediately was told we needed to wait in line. Waited in line, was given a table in the bar area. Waited 30mins and was ignored. No one came over and greeted us, no water , nothing. Horrible experience.

I have to say I typically never do reviews but on this one I really have to. I went in for dinner with my wife, hostess didn’t even say hi or at least try to make you feel welcome, I didn’t really care about that at first, once seated, waitresses took at least 5 min to show up and introduce her self, we placed the order for drinks, waitress took the order, long story short drinks got there at least 30 minutes after, food arrived waaaaay before the drinks that never happens, when the drinks finally got there I was already losing my mind but I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, I asked if it was a reason why the drinks took so long she said, well I won’t tell you because you’re eating but your your food was on time, I was like I’m not asking the food with an attitude she was like well I don’t know what to tell you. She didn’t checked if the food was good (it wasn’t) or if I needed anything.

One of the best we have been to. The tableside guacamole is a must.

I know we had a lot of people , but he never refilled our drinks and we had asked for separate checks and it was put on one bill.

Loud as all get up in there but that's a good thing. Business is good as the atmosphere was loud. But my waiter was on point with his timing and delivery of food. Didn't leave us in limbo with all the chaos and loudness. Food was great and so were the Xangos!🤣🤣

I didn't have a very good experience here. I ordered 4 carne asada tacos and when they came with the food they were not tacos. I didn't know what it was and then I told them to redo my order and they came back with the actual tacos, but instead of giving me 4, THEY GAVE ME 3! The meat was very difficult to tear off and was not good. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Absolute worse experience at a restaurant EVER. Let me start by saying the host checked on us after 15 or 20 minutes to see if we got waited on . We said no so she took drink order. That was nice of her however it still took another 20 minutes for our waitress to take our order. Then 45 minutes after we ordered the waitress did 2 songs of karaoke. After she did the karaoke she came over to ask if we needed anything else? Um our food!! She looked confused as if we spoke in a foreign language. At that point we decided to pay for our drinks and leave.

We arrived at 9:00pm and they wanted us to leave bc they said it will close in 30 mins They served our food cold and the drinks had zerroooooooo alcohol so upset

Please be aware of this location. We had “Isaac D” as a server tonight and stopped checking on our table for over an hour. Once the bill was received it has a “LARGE party” tip added of 22% it was only 4 of us. The manager lied straight to my face and told me that the system automatically does it if the bill goes over a certain amount. Our bill was “$130” dollars to mention… they do the bare minimum and try to get over on their customers.

Unforgettable. Dunno why there was a DJ at 5pm, it was not advertised and my expectation was the restaurant would be much quieter.

They charge refills. Was my go to place but El Maya seems to be the place in Prices Corner. Sorry about it. When you nickel and dime your customers. It’s a no go! #sorryaboutit

We liked this restaurant. It missed 5 stars as the server never came back until we were finished. We never had chance for beverage refills, and they didn't ask if everything was okay.

Food is good, but service is awful. Servers should be checking on customers and not chatting it up sitting in a booth.

Fresh made guacamole table side, friendly staff, already returned a second time.. Return visit 1/19/2024 ordered the hot wings and guacamole with chips, wife and her girl friend like the margarita and Bacardi with coke. Ended with the fried ice cream, very nice visit.

Food very good. FAJITAS Chicken, Steak very tasty, Mango chicken salad and good size portions. The basket of chips and salsa , freshly made. The service good but a bit slow, which was surprising as we went mid meatimes and it was not busy. LOTS of choices to eat near this location from Asian, seafood, mex. This was a good choice. Inside is very festive. We enjoyed lunch and went home with leftovers

Mochahete (spelling) is my favorite food. We get the seafood version, it is plenty of food for 4 (!) people. Margaritas are fabulous, too!

Excellent food and not a chain business. 4 people 4 different dishes. Large shrimp in 1 dish and not skimping.

This had to be one of the worst meals I have ever had. My husband and I both had the exact same Grande Burrito and yet they came prepared vastly different. His was filled with a ton of rice, very little black beans and about 3 oz of grilled chicken. Mine was filled with nothing but black beans, very little rice and about 3 oz of grilled chicken. They were both bland, as was the warm salsa that came with the mediocre chips. The menu reads extremely americanized and not traditional, it lacked flavor just like the menu lacked ethnicity. We do not recommend.

Ordered a cheese enchilada, got chicken. Ordered quac and sour cream, got NONE. Why order, just call them up and say give me whatever you want me to have!

I got the regular tacos and never again I would never eat here again. My food was upside down when given to me, the tacos was all lettuce, cold and mushy

The food was okay, but not great. I was surprised that only the first basket of chips is free and only one free refill on soft drinks. I get that it's inflation, but it just felt a little nickel and diming.

K mal k uno está comiendo bien rico y d repente me encuentro un pelo,le enseño ala mesera y va y le dice ala manager muy despota sale con k mis muchachos no tienen pelo largo invesil si estoy mirando meseras con pelo largo y con pelo guero también estupida siendo mexicana y tragándose alos mismos mexicanos la verdad hoy muy mala experiencia en ves d dar otro platillo todavía me cobra el k tenía el pelo la verdad isieron mal con esas palabras si no sabe ser manager mándela a su casa porke creo k para ser manager debió d aver traído otro platillo igual y ser amable cosa k no lo iso pero bueno x eso se kedan sin clientes!!!

Updating my review from a year later. 6/19/23 - I understand you can be busy, understaffed etc but you still need to manage your tables. We felt ignored. The waitress had an attitude and because I put zero on the tip on the receipt she got even snottier with me and stormed away all upset. Well if you would have checked the table you would have seen we left you an $11 tip anyway cuz I believe in karma. - Previous review - I really liked the place! The chicken enchiladas were very good, not dry like some places we've visited. Nice sized portions, had to unbutton once I got in my car. Very fair prices. Colorful decor. Fun music, felt like I was at my primas wedding, wanted to get up and dance inbetween bites. Our waiter was a sweetheart. Very fast service too. Wonderful experience. It says authentic and they ain't lying! My only "complaint" and it's personal/side note, too much Fabuloso for me. I'm a chronic migraine sufferer so it triggered a migraine and I had to put on my mask and that kind of spoiled my experience but not their fault.

Players is my favorite on the menu item at this location I love it so much and it’s delicious every time I can tell it’s time to try something different that will tickle your taste buds

The food is not 100% authentic. Instead of real corn tortillas, they serve flour tortillas. Salsa is your average salsa dip, nothing special. That food was ok needs to be better, and substitutios can't be made. The drinks were good, I got a mojito.

Always have a fab time here, only one incident earlier in the yr but that was taken care of. My favorite Mexican eatery, I drive from NJ to here, when I'm looking for the best. Thanks to our waitress tonight, she was so nice and on point, friendly and knowledgeable about any questions asked.

The place is nice and the staff are super nice to little kids and every one that comes to this wonderful Mexican restaurant. the food is awesome we ordered a thing that you can share and came out in a lava rock carved into a cute little pig. When we got our food it came out in about five minutes.

I accidentally ordered from this location and just went with it. Googled La Tolteca and this location popped up as well and I didn’t pay attention to the name detail. Overall, not bad. I am comparing to La Tolteca since that’s were I meant to order from, this location had less meat in chimichanga and the side of rice seemed small IMO. Taste was good but portion size of meat def stood out the the price it cost. Also got a burrito and was surprised how small it was, normally burritos are pretty big so that was different. Spent $50 for two entrees and a kid meal and wasn’t super happy in the end.

Love the food there, but... I ordered there tonight< the website took me to CHOWNOW so i ordered from them. After waiting for 45-minutes I call the restaurant and they say "yeah its been ready and they were waiting for a driver. 10-minturess later an UBER driver shows up with my COLD order!! Refused it cause it was cold. Called the restaurant manager & she blamed the weather. I'm 60, been driving in rain since a was 16 . Whats the big deal? We didn't even have ABS brakes. No compensation, just excuses!!

The service here was terrible. They messed up all our orders. Said they couldn’t fix it. Over charged us on the included tip, and even snuck in an extra order of soup. I’ve gotten better service at a Chinese market.

Birthday lunch with mom and got the bottomless drinks. The mimosas were on point and the food was phenomenal

Family has been to many local Mexican restaurants, this by far has been the best yet. The pork was amazingly delicious and moist, the chorizo was probably the best I’ve had in the area. Can’t wait to get the rest to of the family there. Oh did I mention table side guacamole. Our server Nicole answered any questions we had about a catering menu. We will be back.

Had to ask for napkins (twice), asked for utensils got plastic, asked again got actual silverware. Had to ask for small plates (salsa, queso dip dripping all over) and got tea cup saucers. Ordered the quesadilla with "meat" as listed on the menu. After much discussion was told the meat was steak. It was so chewy it came out as one mass when you bite the quesadilla. Tried to cut it with the requested silverware. For some reason it was served with wax paper under it, so the wax paper is tearing but the steak is not. Just not good. They did refund the money for the quesadilla.

First time there, the food was decent and the guac lady convinced us to get some fresh guacamole. Our waitress RUBY was very unfriendly and disappeared the entire time during our time there. The other employees were very nice and made sure to serve us while RUBY did not.

I had a bowl of their Fish Soup and love it When I go there the Fish Soup is always what I get. I just love it. The atmosphere is great and my waitress was great! Always smiling She was a very happy beautiful person Although I cannot remember her name she was great and when I get back that way and eat there I will be sure to look for her a d ask for her to be my waitress

Nice decor, friendly staff, Complimentary chips n just ok liquid salsa, Negra Modelo on Draft & Bottled, (16 $8 or 22oz)plus an awesome, seafood burrito $16 was huge, excellent, & loaded with fish n shrimp plus No rice! 😜 Only negative comment I heard from a large party next to me was that the Margaritas were $$$ more than their meals!!! They have a huge bar menu with Excellent tequilas BUT No prices! Warning. Ask how much, first!!! 😎 Profit from alcohol sales is Huge! 😎

Be careful when paying with a credit card. They are adding tips to your credit card without your kno.

Food is good here but they have made everything super expensive. Service is medium too. Yesterday the waitress took the order and showed up once before the check was given. We had to really catch her as she was running.

I ordered online and didn’t receive the correct order. I ordered the deluxe burritos and I only received one burrito and it had chicken and shrimp in it! It was supposed to be two burritos one with chicken and one with ground beef. Thank GOD I’m not allergic to shell fish. Never ordering from here again.
