Our trip to Vermont and we were craving Italian. We found this cozy restaurant . The vibe was great. My chicken and my dad’s cod was delicioussssssss!!. But mom’s pasta was SAD. Not for vegetarians. Very very expensive

I had dinner with my family about a month ago at Lago Trattoria. The food was okay, we ate and asked for the check. We paid the bill and left tips in cash . Few days later I saw in online banking that they charged me 20 $ over the total price. I tried to call them to see why this happened and ask for the return, they were rude on the phone, said that they are busy. I called another time in different hours, they said that they will pass this info to bookkeeper and call me back. I never heard from them ever since, I called again but they just don't pick up. I don't understand how do people just steal money from your card and act like this is normal? What if they decided to charge me 100 $ instead of 20$? Horrible place, I would not recommend it to anyone.

Food was nice, service at the time of the dinner was fine as well. We found out the day after that our credit card was overcharged extra $20. We had a $127 bill, paid with card and left $15 tip in cash. Our card was charged $147, $20 of which were unauthorized. We tried to call them multiple times to address this issue, but every time there was a reason why they couldn’t proceed. At first they were busy during dinner hours, then there is no bookkeeper, then nobody answers or calls back. If you commit a mistake (should I call it fraud) stay accountable for your actions!

I ordered the special short ribs but it was nothing but FAT! I asked to order something else, a pasta dish which was delicious. The owner would NOT remove the $45 00 charge for the Fatty short Ribs. The waitress ( who was an excellent server) told me I had to talk to the chef / owner. I followed the waitress back to the kitchen where the chef told me I had to pay for both dinners because if I looked up in wikipedia it would say Short ribs are the fattest meat. Well, he should described the fatty meat on his menu. Due to his rude behavior he has lost our business forever!

Horrible dining experience and poor food quality. Went for the filet mignon which they were out of. The waiter suggested the "special"- beef shortrib saying it was a huge meaty portion. We decided to split it between the two of us and ordered drinks while we waited. Drinks were good. We were served a sad wilted Ceasar salad followed by the shortrib. Not at all as described. There was almost no meat- mostly gelatinous fat and bone. Let the waiter know. He told the owner chef who did nothing. No one even acknowledged the complaint after that. To add insult to injury things were very overpriced for what you were given. The "shortrib" was $45. Total bill over $125 and left hungry. Very poor service and definitely not as portrayed online as a fine dining experience.

Best atmosphere in Northern VT for fine, relaxed dining. Superb bartenders and chef-owned (your Italian chef cares what you're served). This is a true family business with many locally sourced menu items. Eat here (and check out the martini board). Portion size is larger than most.

Went to newport Vermont to witness the total eclipse. After the event decided to wait on line for this establishment to open at 5 pm. 7 of us were the 1st on line. Eventually the line swelled to about 25 people. The door opened and we entered. The hostess ask us how many. We replied 7. She nastily told us she could only accommodate 6. So we volunteered to split into 2 groups of 3 and 4 guests. She then replied “I thought you said 7”. A man appeared from the kitchen and reiterated that they could not accommodate us; but we could sit at the bar. Patrons on line behind us were appalled at our treatment and expressed that they neither had or needed a reservation. The 7 of us are BLACK professionals from a firefighter, nurse, software engineer to a wealthy businessman. We collectively exited wishing to neither spend our money there nor eat the food they were going to serve. Thank you to all the patrons who spoke up on our behalf. We have been dining @ Lago's for 15+ years & tonight we were wondering why the chef/owner doesn't check in w/ the guests when he's able to? We were the last 2 top @8:00(surprise?) We feel the service is somewhat lacking compared to what it once was. We were always offered fresh parmesan & ground black pepper back in the day. It's the little things that matter! We feel that this might not be our go to for a nice meal out any longer!

People had told me not to go here. Yet online I saw great pictures of good food served in a nice Italian restaurant. Now I know it was the attitude that's the problem. Alex, my server, puts up with a lot to work here. I can only describe the calamari as over cooked rubber bands. The Manager/chef says they got some bad calamari. So. I order the meatballs and they are fine, 3 for only $16. 2 beers 8.50 + 1.50 for the extra tbspn of sauce I asked for. Wait. How does that add upto $36, Alex? He said he's charging you for the calamari. NOW he says there was nothing wrong with it. Priceless. He made sure I bought something else before he charged me for the inedible overcooked calamari. He must realize he is on his way out.

Great place for dinner! The staff was was very friendly. The Frutti Di Mare is mouthwateringly delicious, it was a wonderful balance of the fresh seafood and a rich but not overwhelming red sauce. The pork was cooked to perfection. Drinks and desserts provided a perfect beginning and ending to thoroughly delicious dining experience. We will be back very soon!

We were taken there for my husband's 49th birthday by our awesome friends, Conrad & Marilyn. The service was impeccable and the food was so delicious. The restaurant is well managed & clean. Be sure to make a reservation. We will return when we are back in Lake Salem visiting.

My husband and I happened upon this restaurant after deciding not to overpay at the mediocre eatery in the vicinity. To say I'm 8 years late to this place would be an understatement. They welcomed us and arranged a beautiful table for two even though we did not have reservations. Service was prompt and polite, friendly and professional. There's nothing I respect more than a definitive suggestion when you're caught between two entrees, and Michelle did just that for my husband. He ended up getting the wild boar pasta, which was one of his favorite meals ever. I got the chicken with burrata ravioli. We shared a bottle of red and toasted to our new favorite northeast kingdom restaurant. Love it here and can't wait to bring friends and family.

While vacationing in beautiful Newport Vermont, we had dinner at Lago's. What a wonderful, beautiful restaurant and the service was impeccable. Michelle (our bartender) made us exceptional martinis from a list of about 20 to choose from...so hard but we managed to choose and enjoyed every last drop. Our entrees were equally as delicious, very tasty, ample portions and a nice selection to choose from. We were able to have two meals which was an extra bonus. We will definitely be back to dine at this restaurant next year!!

My wife and I were there last month on vacation. Once was take out, once was dine in. The food was good but not great either time. The prime rib was a bit dried out and very fatty to the point where about 1/3 of it was fat. The pasta dish I had was ok but way too spicy. The lamb appetizer was good but for some reason when I ordered it for a main course it wasn't as good. The service was excellent though.

Came here on a whim with my friends after a rough day and it was exactly what we needed. The wait staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. Every dish was cooked exactly right, each being distinct and perfect in their own way. The martinis were wonderfully refreshing after a long day on the road. It is a place full of heart and cheer, well worth the visit. My only regret in coming here is that I am unable to give them ten stars. I absolutely recommend this place to any and all who wander.

Was with a large group of people, they had great food and great staff. It was Italian style serving of small dishes spread evenly around the table. They then boxed all the leftovers up and invited everyone to take some home. If it wasn't a 2.5 hour drive each way, I would eat there often.

What a delightful surprise to find this Tuscan speciality on the menu here in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont! The wild boar in the rich tomato sauce was slow cooked to perfection and as good or better than what we have enjoyed in the Tuscan hills, where it’s an autumn treat. The pasta was cooked al dente, as it should be, and the accompanying salads were exceptionally good and fresh. Excellent wines are available and reasonably priced, and the service was both attentive and professional. The ambience is informal and relaxing. This is an excellent restaurant.

We decided to come here for my birthday dinner Friday. Not knowing the area we pretty much based the decision on a couple photos and online reviews. We were not let down at all. The drinks, appetizer and main meal was phenomenal. Having been to Italy and enjoyed some fine dining there out standards are fairly high when it comes to taste. Lago nailed it in our opinion. We live about an hour and change away, but will most definitely be back!! Thanks for everything.

Luan and I had excellent ceasar salads before two superb entrees. She had the cheese ravioli special with a full lobster tail and scallops in a light rosa sauce. My meal was a fabulous veal chop with a marsala reduction, with mushrooms and a bit of cream mixed in. Chef / owner Frank was warm and open discussing what went into our meals and the service from Sarena was very good. If you're in Newport VT be sure to stop.

The food is fine, pretty good actually, and our service was good, but the pricing feels a bit high for what you get. Reasonable atmostphere, though the bar clearly draws a regular crowd, who can be a little loud if you are looking for a fancy night out with a date or family. Thats how this place is priced, but again, I think thats a bit high. You'll get tasty food, and of passable Italian-ness, but it feels too expensive for what it offers. At the price I paid for my meal I expect something special, and it was just "good".

I wasn't too impressed on my first visit a couple years ago, but this past weekend showed a marked improvement. The wild boar pappardelle was outstanding with fat silky noodles hugging a thick, meat-focused sauce of tender boar meat, and my husband's rich sea scallop risotto was more than just a generous portion, it was one of the best versions of this creamy arborio rice dish we've had outside of Italy. Acoustics permitted easy conversation even with big parties at adjacent tables, and the wine list had options at every price point.
