Truly one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. We ordered the Dal Lehja, salmon tikka, and a chicken shrimp dish - all were bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. We ended the meal with the pistachio ice cream - wow and wow! Not sweet (which I prefer), yet prefect creamy and flavorful. Can’t wait to go back!

Ordered kulfi pistachio came in a 4oz cup and charged $ 8:00bucks called to ask if their kulfi came in 4oz cups but they kept on asking if I want order more. Asked if I could talk to manager was told to call back at 5:30 first then told me to call back at 6:00 pm called back at6:00pm and the owner said that that was their serving size 4oz Started giving me the recipe of how to make it Instead of saying sorry I can refund you for both but instead still wanted to explain how it’s made. Finely when I told I how to make it he agreed on refunding me for one portion guys beware do not get kulfi there it’s a rip off Talk to the owner for refund he said he would refund me for one but did not refund me anything

It was our first time there tonight, and we’ll definitely be back! We had the cauliflower appetizer, naan with goat cheese and ginger, chicken biryani and tikka masala. I had seen reviews complaining the portions are small but it was more than enough for us, and we were glad to have leftovers for the next day. The service was pleasant and very helpful. We highly recommend Lehja.

The best service I have had in Richmond! Both our waiter and bartender were PHENOMENAL this evening, and made my friend's birthday such a delight. The Manhattan - to die for. The wine - so delicious. This restaurant is one of our favorites. It was packed on Mother's day, but we received our order quickly and courteously. Staff are very professional.

Fine dining Indian restaurant, great taste, flavor and service.

Went there last week to celebrate with my friend and had the best time. Servers are so attentive and accommodating! We asked for the tasting menu and, even though they were not serving it that day (weekend), they did it for us. We were served 5 beautify presented meals and I can’t decide which one I liked the most, all of it was very aromatic and had so many different flavors! It’s been less than a week and I’m ordering it for dinner tonight.

Based on reviews, expectations were not met. The sea bass entree was not as described on the menu - tandoori roasted with tomato fennel sauce and asparagus. There was no fennel or asparagus in the dish, the fish was not roasted but appeared poached....and the portion of fish was small. It was tasty but not special and at a $36 price point, it was disappointing. My partner's entree, similarly priced at $38 - surf and turf- lamb, fish, shrimp was over over cooked and dry. We passed on dessert. There are other good options for Indian food in the West End. I suggest you try a competitor.

Group of six were seated for a Friday evening with plenty of space. The wine list was deep but we shared a bottle from the rose’ and commenced to ordering. The staff and owner/manager came by frequently, shared amazing stories for many of the dishes and were really on point. The appetizers were wonderful, the main courses were absolutely fantastic. I got the classic butter chicken and wasn’t disappointed, but tried from various plates and realized it be hard to choose wrong. The desert went the same way, fortunately they have a sampler plate that we added the chocolate cake (flourless), convenient for the Passover observer with us. The place has been there now for 14 years. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

My son picked this place out as a meeting place for my wife and I to meet him and his girlfriend for lunch. We drove down from DC to do so as we were visiting the states. The food was outstanding. Perhaps, it was some of the best Indian I have consumed in Virginia. However, it is either too pricey or the portions are too small. Keep in mind, we ordered four meals off the lunch menu, which is typically lower priced than a dinner menu. Let's start with the two appetizers. I ordered two vegan appetizers since both my son and his girlfriend are vegan. Both were very tasty. The samosa was a bit unusual as it came in a sweet tamarind sauce. The chili cauliflower was simply outstanding. Both were good portions for a decent price. However, the meals is where we were all slightly let down. For instance, I ordered the surf and turf off the lunch menu for $26.00. That's a lot of cash for the relatively small portion I received. I will say that the lamb was perfect. The salmon was good, but small. It also came with one shrimp. My wife ordered the chicken Vindaloo, which she enjoyed, but she felt it was small for a $17.00 price tag. The two vegan diners shared a dish of portobello tofu Kadhai and an eggplant dish called Pahadl Balngan. They both loved their meals, but they shared the same sentiment for a $16.00 and $17.00 lunch meal. All meals came with a soup or salad option included. We only drank water. This was my treat, but spending $120.00 with tip for a four person lunch with two appetizers and no drinks is shocking. I dare wonder what the prices are like at dinner. Still, I am giving it a four as the food was really that good. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is nicely decorated. Give it a shot, but be prepared to spend!

Have been here 4 or 5 years ago. Came again with the same expectation and ordered veg biryani. It tasted like dal chawal with large chunks of boiled potatoes. It could be rated the worst of all the biryanis I have tasted in many different states and cities. Spices are so important for a biryani. This had nothing. The large chunks of boiled potatoes made it starchy and taste nothing more than a dal chawal!

The seafood Kerala curry was nice

My boyfriend and I have been coming to Lehja on and off for about 6 years because the food was always amazing. We hadn’t been in a few years and were in the area so we went today to get some Chicken Tikka and Naan. Our server was great, the atmosphere was great, but the food, has dramatically changed. The Chicken Tikka was SO bland compared to what we are used to, there was no spice/heat although we ordered medium spice. Honestly the Tikka sauce looked and tasted exactly like the tomato soup appetizer. For $100 for 2 people, and knowing how good the food used to be, I was expecting better. Lemon cuisine of India on Broad Street is my new #1. Their food is great, consistent, and definitely more worth your time.

I used to come here all the time and would always get the chicken tikka masala. Today, service and atmosphere was great BUT for some reason, the chicken tikka was not as good as it used to be. Very weak flavors, no spice and kinda bland. A little disappointed since this was our go to spot for chicken tikka. We will be going elsewhere for now on.

At one point, Lehja was a phenomenal restaurant and the food was worth the price. Now the food is extremely subpar and too expensive.

First time eating here tonight and wow it was absolutely delicious. We had a variety of appetizers that were full of flavor, the blue crab taka tak, tawa chicken, and a kale with pomegranate seeds that I couldn’t name. The owner engaged with us and made recommendations based on our protein preferences. The Shrimp Chicken Zafrani was cooked to perfection with a little grill char to season them. Absolutely will be back and don’t get me started on the naan!

Went for lunch today. 1) Terrible food - asked for spice level 4 chicken biryani and they basically put red chilli powder on top, uncooked and cold. Disgusting. No chutney with the appetizer either 2) Service - the lady asked me to pay mid way through my meal. I mean let me at least finish eating. Weird service Definitely not coming back

While Lehja has some of the best indian food I had in Richmond, the service was awful. My partner and I like to occasionally treat ourselves to a nice meal so we stopped in for dinner, but we both got the vibe the entire time that we weren’t welcome and didn’t belong in the restaurant. I understand that when things are busy, servers prioritizes their largest tables or the ones that ordered the most- which is ok- but we both honestly felt that because we’re visibly young and don’t seem like we are going to spend a lot that we were ignored. Our server was very short with us and condescending and we could barely get his attention. He actually only voluntarily talked to us once and the other times we had to ask the runners (who were great) to get his attention. Like if you want us to leave that bad at least come back give us the check I’m just saying. If you’re looking to treat yourself and/or your partner, maybe skip this place and go somewhere more welcoming. If you go though try the samosas and the goat cheese tikki.

Going on a holiday is not a good idea. Very, very busy. Had to wait more than a half hour to get seated. Extremely noisy. Wait staff couldn't get our order straight.

The customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The hostess was also our server. He asked no questions and didn't come back to check in. The food was mediocre. I had the butter chicken. It was ok. My husband had the lamb and got sick when we got home. The garlic naan was delicious, and I had a Tito's and mango, and that was also good. Bill was $100 & I had to stop on the way home to feed my teen again. She had the coconut soup. Which she said had no taste and was spicy when you swallowed. Consistency was also very watery. First and last visit.

Sadly what was once a high end Indian cuisine has now become just average. Certainly not worth the high price. Food was good. Not great. Spice level wasnt up to par.. Service was terrible. Menus left all over the table, empty plates never cleared, we had 2 place settings never used and no one ever cleared them. Food arrived without knowing who got what. Appetizers placed on table opposite of who ordered them. Wine order was given and never brought. Had to ask, that bottle wasn't in stock. An alternative was offered, but it took 10 minutes to be delivered. Dessert was never offered. Server seemed annoyed at splitting the check. And bathrooms need some care. Worn out paint, and looking run down. This isn't James Beard quality like it once was. Total letdown on Christmas Eve.

Lehja has been my favorite Indian restaurant in all of Richmond for years and years. I’ve written many positive 5⭐️ reviews for them during this time. I’ve been wanting to bring my son here for a long time, but he would never make time to join me. Yesterday was the day and I was so excited for him to taste real Indian food and not the prepackaged stuff I buy at Costco. I made a reservation. We arrived at 1:15 and as we were seated we were given water. And then we waited. No one came. Everyone that walked by our table did not even look our way. At 1:30, I turned around and asked the gentleman who was bussing the table behind us if anyone had our table. He said he’d check. But we continued to wait. At 1:37 I approached the lady who had seated us and let her know it had been almost 30min and still no one had greeted us. She said she’d be right there. If I had been anywhere else, I’d have long been out the door. I noticed Sunny was not making his usual rounds. I don’t know if he was just out and his team fell apart without his leadership or if there has been an ownership change….but I’ve never seen anything like this there. Finally, we placed our drink and food order at about 1:43. I told the lady that my son loved naan and could she bring extra to save herself from extra running and she told me that we could only have 2 pieces. This was new to me, too. They’ve always provided more rice and naan if requested. From that point on, service was I’d become accustomed to in the past there. The food came out fast. The salad was good, but our naan was burned. No quality control by letting that out of the kitchen and to our table. Parts of it were ok so we ate around the burned edges. The chicken tikka masala was delicious. The next surprise was the bill. When I first started dining here, lunch was $10.50. It’s gradually gone up over the years and last time it was maybe $13 or $14. Today, I believe it was $18. Wow, that was a hike. I’m sure I’ll return as it would be unfair to give up on them for one really bad experience (a couple times it has not been stellar but usually it’s very good) but I sure hope to see Sunny on the floor so I know this won’t happen again.

For a place that was award-winning at one point, I was extremely let down. I got the simplest order of butter chicken with rice and naan. The butter chicken, which I had ordered hot, was not hot in the slightest. It had no flavor at all to it! So dissappointing. The rice was okay, just regular basmati rice. But the naan was completely burnt. See picture attached. I had to break off pieces of the burnt to eat the naan. I wouldn’t care as much about the food quality if the meal wasn’t so expensive. Over $20 for butter chicken.. for it to be completely tasteless. Will not be returning.

Hotel looks Good food is customized Indian food for US taste.. So Traditional touch is completely missing

A favorite in the area for us, we try to get there regularly. Sunny, the owner, does excellent wine pairings with the menu. We often get the Gobi Manchurian, Palak Paneer, or Kofta Chaman Dilkhush. Absolutely delicious.

You judge an Indian restaurant by the quality of butter chicken. And the butter chicken here is missing salt, spices, marination and lot of other things. It was ok but I won't be going back

To preface, I REALLY enjoy Indian food. I think it's one of the most flavorful foods out there. With that said, I've tried many Indian spots around the city, and elsewhere. Based on all the reviews and what I've heard around town, I thought this place would be up there amongst the greats. Unfortunately it was average at best. Pros: The atmosphere was very nice. It's a very elegant, clean restaurant, with tasteful decor and an upscale feel. Definitely somewhere I can see going for a date night. Cons: Service was pretty bad. We came on a Sunday afternoon, and it wasn't very busy inside (about 5 tables with 3-4 per table). Me and my friend were sat down, and legit no one came by for over 10 minutes after that. Waiters and staff kept going and checking on other tables, but no one came out to us, not even to ask for drink orders. They were actively ignoring us, and it came off as incredibly rude. When our waiter finally came over, he didn't apologize or anything, and he came off annoyed that he had to serve us. The food was very average. I had chicken tikka masala and two orders of garlic naan. The portion sizes were decent, but the flavor of the masala was very lacking seasoning, and a chicken was overcooked. They use a one to five heat scale, and I ordered to be around a three (I specifically said medium spicy). There was absolutely no spice in my dish. Not a drop. I didn't complain because I did not feel like spending extra time there, especially because the service was so slow. Also the prices are higher than other places around town. I feel like if the service and the quality of the food was better, they could justify it, but they are charging at least $5 to $6 more than their competition, and it doesn't feel worth it. So overall, it was far from the worst experience I had. But for the cost to the quality of the meal and service, I personally wouldn't go again on my own

Very good food! Ordered my staple, Butter Chicken medium and Garlic Naan and a sparkling water (typically SP or Benedetto but to my surprise they had Voss). Chicken was VERY tender which is not the usual for tandoori and the flavors were exceptional. Only miss was the heat. I order medium (although hot I can handle) as I wanted to preserve the flavors. It was definitely hot. The naan was also very good.

Worst Indian meal, disgusting. Chicken tika marsala should be chicken cooked in the Tandoor, this was tasteless cubes of chicken, possibly boiled. Saag chicken usually and should be a rich thick tasteful spinach sauce, this was an atrocious runny brown sauce if you could call it that, tiny flavourless cubes of chicken. Vegetable biryani should be a spicey beautiful flavoursome dry rice dish, it was a tasteless frozen vegetable bland boiled rice. How they received such good reviews is beyond me. I rang to voice my complaints and was put through to the owner supposedly and was met with a deadly silence so hung up. Don't order there, atrocious. TINA

I love the food here but nearly $200 for this type of meal is absolutely ridiculous! And I was charged $14 for a teeny tiny (like 1/4 cup) glass of white wine! The Indian food here is delicious I grant you…but I can make my own Indian curry at home (I make an incredible Chicken Tikka) and buy a good bottle of white wine - all for under $30. I’m sorry but this is just too expensive for basic Indian and I won’t be dining here again. Sorry!

Excellent dinner this evening with my brother at Lehja. We sat outside since the weather was so nice. We ordered Gobi Manchurian as an appetizer. Very delicious and unique spice profile compared to other Gobi Manchurian I have tried. For our main course we ordered Banarsi vegetables, kofta chaman dilkhush, and garlic naan. All spice levels were level 3 of max 5. The spice profiles were excellent for both the vegetables and kofta entrees. Lehja has very distinct flavors which I love and appreciate. Service was good. HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!! Don't let the mall location scare you, this is a top notch Indian restaurant! The food was out of this world. I had the Firecracker Chicken Tikka app, chili garlic naan and a lamb special that wasn't on the menu. The flavors were out of this world!
