Now I see why this place has 5 stars. The owner and her husband are very welcoming! The establishment is very clean. Restroom included! I happened to come in here and had the entire restaurant to myself. She allowed me to watch tv and cooked an entire meal, enough to feed a family of 4…..JUST FOR ME. The service was IMPECCABLE. She checked on me consistently and I almost cried because I felt like I had been adopted into the family. Simply because as soon as I came in, I was treated like I’ve known them for years. The shiro, meat combo, coffee and meat fir fir is the best around. Taste just like eating traditional Ethiopian food from Addis Ababa. You will NOT be disappointed. Tell them I sent you, if you go! Whether with family or by yourself, you will be welcomed and you will leave feeling full yet light. TRY TRY TRYYYY!

The food was great. But Ethiopian food is usually great. I gave it 5 stars because of the service. Such a nice family. After I ate a huge meal, the owner asked me if I was full 😂. I loved that she asked, felt like it was my mom asking me.

We were traveling through Indianapolis and were pleased to find an Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurant. The 5.0 star review surprised us, but it turns out to be accurate. Lete's has great food (berbere and tibsi were just the right level of flavor and spiciness; alitcha was done well to cool the palate). Even more impressive is the coffee--better than I've had in New York and New Haven places. The chef (Lete?) roasted it in a big cast iron skillet and ground it fresh on the spot. Best of all was when Lete joined us at the table for a few minutes to serve it and share a cup (we were early for dinner and there was nobody else sitting, so it was like an informal coffee-drinking ceremony). Excellent food and very friendly service!

this place is AMAZING! The owner is so incredibly nice and hospitable. We had never eaten Ethiopian cuisine and she helped us order. The food was fantastic and we also tried the Ethiopian coffee (which was the best coffee I have ever tasted). She even put incense on our table and let us smell the roasted coffee beans. Do not miss out on this wonderful restaurant!

Had lunch here with my wife and daughter today. We had a variety of dishes that were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was like being at home. Mainly because you felt more like being at a family meal than in a restaurant. Lete sat with us and talked for a bit while we drank the most delicious coffee. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is not just a place to eat, but a cultural experience.

I don’t eat gluten and I’m vegan. The Chef (Lete) came out and offered to make my injera with only teff to make it gluten free. (This is not something I requested, she just offered.) I was so grateful. My husband and I got the veggie combo. It was delicious!!! The food was amazing! We will be back with friends!!!

My husband and I came here for our anniversary because we had never tried Ethiopian food before. Lete was very kind and friendly throughout our visit. We got the meat platter and the zigni and tibsi. Everything was incredibly delicious, with a bit of spice and lots of flavor. Lete even brought us some extra sautéed vegetables. The injera is so good and all the flavors combine so beautifully. Lete served us hot tea that had a lovely flavor and felt like a hug for our stomachs. My only complaint is we were too full to order coffee — we are already planning to come back!

We had a party of three and shared the meat combo and the veggie combo. The food was AMAZING. It was all so fresh and flavorful and delicious. We were all full but not bloated. If you order coffee, it's served after the meal. The owner came and poured for us. The coffee was delicious! It was freshly roasted and so fragrant and smooth, no bitterness at all. It comes with a side of popcorn and it goes together really well. We all had a really lovely time. Worth coming back, 100%

As we ate we chatted and connected about her family and accomplishments. She takes so much pride and love in her work. The food is phenomenal. The coffee experience is absolutely worth it - she roasts the beans in front of you and pours the perfect cups. We invited her to sit and chat over coffee too, making the whole experience even better. Sometimes the most unassuming places offer the most amazing experiences. This place is one of them. There is nothing fancy about this location, but the food is the main attraction. Food was delicious! We had the #8 zigni and tibsi with #3 lamb Derek tibs with vegetables. Everything was immensely flavorful and fresh. There was nothing on the plate that we did not like. The Ethiopian coffee was insane. Lete roasts your beans fresh before steeping your coffee in a flat pot that is served tableside. It is served up with warm milk and fresh popcorn. If you're extra lucky, Lete will sit with you and share a funny story from her culture.

My partner and I came here on a Sunday evening, an hour before they close. A gentleman immediately greeted us, and invited us to sit at one of the tables. Per their recommendation, we ordered the veggie combo and awaze tibs. A woman soon came out of the kitchen to check on our spice preferences, and we asked for spicy. (For reference, we love Thai and Indian dishes with level 3/4 spice out of 5.) There was only one other customer dining at the time, and our food came out quickly. The injera was very light, and perfect for both picking up the food and sopping up the sauces. If you haven’t had Ethiopian or Eritrean food before, one is meant to tear off pieces of the injera with their hands and pick up the food (as opposed to using utensils, though they do have utensils available upon request). The veggies and beef were quite flavorful, though not as spicy as we’re used to in Texas. Last, but not least, we had ordered tea when we first got seated and the tea arrived at the end of our meal. This didn’t bother us, but for anyone who plans to come here for the first time and is interested in hot tea, note that it may be offered with the intention of aiding digestion at the end of the meal (so if you want it before your food arrives, just ask and I’m sure the staff would be happy to accommodate). We would happily eat here again, and if you haven’t experienced Eritrean food, I recommend giving it a try. As an added bonus, you’ll be supporting a small, local business!

Let me start by saying I don't have a pic of the food I had to go because it smelled amazing and I was starving. I inhaled whatever my husband had ordered. I was. Waiting to try injera since I heard about it a few years ago. Being Indian this is a twist on the south Indian Dosa. And it didn't disappoint. My husband went in and ordered. The staff was super nice. He got injera with beef and I got with Chicken sorry I am not sure what it was called on the menu and my other half didn't bother to read 😂 but I will give it 5 stars. My 11 month old ate the injera with the lentil mash that was served. All in all it was great. I can't wait to go and dine in with a fresh cup of coffee.

If you don't look carefully, you might miss such a solid addition to Indianapolis's great list of restaurants. Although they offer really good coffee (Nigerian style, is my understanding), their food is unbelievably fresh and perfectly seasoned. You can eat at a regular table or a traditional mesob if you like. The wonderful chef there asked us if we would like to try the daily special, although she offered to make both chicken and beef versions of the entree since our group was sharing the full injera plate experience. It sort of looks small when you're hungry but we were stuffed after eating the whole thing! They offer different levels of spicy, for those of you sensitive to heat.

What a WONDERFUL experience we had on New Year’s Eve. We allowed Lete to make us two giant platters and choose whatever she wanted for us. The food was the BEST Eritrean food I’ve ever tasted. The Injera was made by Lete herself. Come to find out, she makes it for other Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurants in Indianapolis, too. We were lucky enough to ask for some coffee. Lete roasted the beans herself while we ate our dinner. She then served it to us with incense burning, creating a little ceremony. Just wonderful. The best part was that Lete sat down with us for 20-30 minutes and shared some of her life with us. We learned about Eritrea, her daughter’s and their successes, her work ethic. It brought tears to my eyes. I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively and had some tremendous dining experiences. Lete is a gifted cook and brilliant woman. Her business started with her selling her one-of-a-kind injera (bread) to others in the Eritrean diaspora. Now we all have the chance to experience her gift. DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY to support a hard-working entrepreneur who shares a slice of her life in Eritrea.
