the atmosphere was warm & welcoming, the staff was attentive & personable, and the food was incredible! i would absolutely come back to lula and love how the menu is unique, fresh, and vegetarian friendly.

Toasted veggie panini on sourdough was a 10/10, super flavorful. Fantastic service and a very relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful.

I recommend arriving early, a little before the place opens, to get through quickly without waiting in line. The staff is very friendly, the food delicious, prices very affordable.

An absolute must when in Chicago!

After waiting in line for an hour to get a table for breakfast and having really high expectations for this restaurant, my experience was ruined by poor service and a disregard and lack of respect for allergy issues. When ordering coffee, my girlfriend explicitly stated she could not have any dairy in her drinks and food. It didn’t really seem like our waiter really cared about this as he accidentally switched our coffees. My girlfriend then began to drink half the coffee before realizing she was having an allergic reaction. She had to run quickly to get her allergy medicine which completely ruined our experience. To top it off, it didn’t seem like any of my waiters cared that they made a really big mistake and that this could have been much more serious. They offered to replace our coffee, but didn’t make any serious concerted effort to try and make us feel better or help my girlfriend. They then proceeded to charge us for the coffee!!! You’d expect a restaurant with this type of reputation to have a respect for their customers and to make more of an effort to show they care about their mistake and to make things better, but this was obviously lacking. Avoid if you have allergy issues. Food was great otherwise.

Service was excellent. Food was inventive but nothing to raze about. Melon appetizer was thrown out money. I got a $15 alcoholic drink that literally was 3 swallows and it was gone. That just pissed me off. There were some good dishes ( lentil dish was very tasty, and chickpeas was ok. The food looks beautiful, but I won’t be returning

YOU CAN DO HALF ORDERS (I wish this was posted on their menu). The food here is amazing, best brunch food in Chicago. French toast has seasonal fruits and the pasta yia yia is so unique, it has cinnamon that actually blends well with the cheese. It was over an hour wait for two people on a Sunday though. And the twenty percent service fee is not worth it for the service you receive. But the food is just so unique you HAVE to come here

Went in for the hype and utterly disappointed. Average food, below average service (atleast on our table), portion size is definitely not worth the price at all.! Top it off with a mandatory 20% tip. In my opinion, There are better restaurants in the area

Great place to take family and friends, breakfast, lunch or dinner all delicious. Have celiac and there are always safe options for eating gluten free. Servers are attentive and knowledgeable

Been wanting to try this spot for quite some time but never was patient enough to take on the 30-60+ min wait for weekend breakfast/brunch, but finally did! The breakfast burrito was delicious, and the staff were kind to reposition our outdoor seating to better accommodate an unexpected morning rain shower. Definitely aiming to try out the other inventive dishes another time.

I got there just before 10. The place was already about half full. I ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, and a hot latte. I was so happy that even though the pancake order comes with three pieces, you can choose to get one, two, or all three. I went with two, and thank goodness because the portions are pretty big! The scrambled eggs were perfectly moist and delicious, and the latte art was super cute. Oh, and if you like adding sugar to your latte like I do, they have some nice brown sugar at every table. Next to me was a father and daughter duo, and they gave the little girl some paper and crayons to keep her busy while they waited for their food. Such a nice touch! By the time I left, the place was packed, and the staff were cheerfully greeting everyone, creating a really great vibe. If it’s your first time here, a heads up: they add a 20% tip directly to the bill, which is totally worth it. In fact, I ended up rounding up and paying in cash, telling them to keep the change—great dining experiences like this are priceless ❤️

Lives up to the hype and exceeds expectations. Pretty sure they're using witchcraft or alchemy, because no one has ever made better roast chicken. Every damned thing is delicious.

The food is nice but I guess I went in with very high expectations! We waited for almost 2 hours to get a table to try the “best cafe in Chicago “ but unfortunately the taste fell short of my expectations. It was still good but I have had better egg burritos! Good for a one time visit for sure 👍

It took us forever to get a reservation at Lula Cafe but the wait was worth it! They have one of the more unique menus I’ve seen in awhile. The chickpea frites and mafaldine pasta were absolutely fantastic. They do have an automatic 20% service charge, but are very upfront about it. The only downside is that the cocktail menu is quite limited.

I don’t understand the hype for this place. I ordered a breakfast burrito, filled with eggs, and nightshade-potatoes, the basics.. and barely saw any avocado in it, or cheese. So here’s the thing, if you were only having a figure nail sized avocado bit in the burrito, you shouldn’t have had it as the first place in the ingredients list. Underwhelmed by the food, and the service. The nitro cold brew was very smooth, however arrived later than the main dish.

This was my first time getting to eat here for brunch. It was so delightful! The staff was so sweet and charming. Their breakfast was delicious. I always have a sweet tooth and got their pancakes and an iced vanilla late. Everything was scrupulous! Def worth the wait!

Really nice tofu scramble with veggies, like a decent amount of veggies on the plate that I was really happy about. Flavouring was solid and overall a filling plate.

Food was so good, outside seating was really pleasant, service was great. We got beet bruschetta which I loved, almost like a beet-arugula salad on top of some Toasted baguette. Then we we got smoked trout egg scramble which was also so good, and finally the sourdough French toast which was the perfect amount of sweet, and the bread held together giving some great texture. Would totally go again and try some other items!

The freshest and most delicious food I had while in Chicago. And I loved that it was a neighborhood spot that locals go to on a regular basis.

The food was astonishing, and the customer service was genuine! We even bought a cookbook on the way out that chef Jason signed with an endearing message. It was a pleasure to be served by Ruth and Lauren, and the host Caroline. Working in the service industry definitely requires team work and the whole staff at Lula Cafe truly works together to insure an amazing experience for all guests! 10/10!

Wow this was another one for the books. We had a group of 6 so we went family style and let me tell you it didn’t disappoint. The flavors are phenomenal and the staff are knowledgeable. No complaints to be had we say outdoors and enjoyed the neighborhood.

Be prepared to wait on a Sunday, as it's walk ins only but absolutely worth the wait. Incredible, attentive service, and food is delicious. Would absolutely recommend the Ceasar Salad and Spaghetti. The polenta was pretty bomb too!

Lula Cafe - Manager Andrew The place was packed upon arrival. The hostess greeted us and gave us a 30 to 35 minute wait so we walked around the area which was nice by the way the wait time was actually only 15 minutes. Even thought the cafe was on the smaller side, it was cute, quaint and nice. Our waitress came within five minutes to greet us. We ordered the pancake combo with eggs, bacon and breakfast potatoes. The pancakes and potatoes came out cold but Andrew assisted with swiftness and called for another order. Our waitress was Sammie - freakin awesome. Since the pancakes were cold, Andrew dropped off a tasty treat while we waited for our meal to come up. Overall, I would recommend this cafe. The pancakes were truly fluffy and amazing!!! You can taste the buttermilk!

One of one, amazing food, crazy ideas which worked perfectly. The pasta Yiayia sounded mad with the brown butter, cinnamon and feta but was so delicious and tasted like nothing I’ve had before. The spaghetti was also great with the chile salsa Rosa elevating the flavors from a regular spaghetti to something more. We also had the beet bruschetta and the “TINEKA” which again was an interesting twist. Will be back this summer. Great job Lula Cafe.

The best! Great spot for brunch or dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious and the desserts are out of this world. Highlights include the baked feta, chilled cucumber soup, and the Thai iced coffee flavor gelato. Amazing service!!

Expensive but worth every penny. One of the best brunch meals I’ve ever had. Went by myself and sat at the bar, highly recommended to save time on the busy waitlist.

Hands down, best breakfast burrito on earth! Eggs cooked perfectly and it was big enough for two meals! My husband and my friend enjoyed the Smoked Trout, but agreed that I "won" with the burrito 🌯 👌 😎 Service was great! We were in and out in about 40 minutes. Carrot cake is really good too. I'll be back for that burrito! And this place didn't break the bank, which is shocking for a James Beard restaurant in Chicago!

Little tight. Service was good. Food was average. Didn't care for there selection or specials so I just had pancakes and chicken sausage.

Just finished dinner here and it was excellent all around! The pasta yiayia was so uniquely great and we also loved the cocktails and baked feta. It was unusually busy for a Wednesday night so the food was understandably slow coming out and the service was a bit slow considering the server had so many tables - to be honest we weren't even upset because we were just enjoying our drinks and the ambiance, but the very sweet and endearing manager came by to apologize and check in on us and even got us some drinks because of the wait. It was just nice to see the staff genuinely care about your experience.

Lula is my first recommendation to anyone new to the area! Every time I walk in, I feel immediately at home. The food is fresh, in quality and in creativity. The service is excellent. Perfect for a date night or a dinner with the parents. I can never go without ordering the carrot cake :-)

We all enjoyed our food, wonderful flavor combos. Some of their plating choices made it hard to enjoy the food. I understand the need for aesthetics but functionality is also important. Service was kind of lacking, maybe it was just an off day. As a whole it was a pleasant experience.

The food quality was solid at this place, very fresh flavors. Presentation could use some work, but mainly focused on the eating. This is directly across from the farmers market on Sundays so expect an extra crowd. Service is average at best, likely related to how busy the place is, but felt pretty self service at times. Had to chase down my coffee to finally get it. Service charge is what it is, would just think of it as all menu items are more expensive by 20%

I’ve worked in the food industry for 13 years (Michelin kitchens, product development, organic agriculture). I'd say I have a good pallet and a thorough understanding of how food works. This restaurant has fantastic food and service and executes it all with humble style. The price point for what you’re getting is very fair. And they source locally. I wish there were more kitchens operating like this one. Everything a restaurant should be.

We had a fantastic birthday dinner for my boyfriend here. They even made him a personalized menu! The food and service were both fantastic. Highly recommend.

We arrived sharp 9am on Saturday and there was already lines and we waited about 10mins to be seated. Service was super disappointing… we waited overly long time to order and get drinks. It was too busy and loud. Food wasn’t disappointing. Breakfast burrito and pancakes were really good. Highly recommend!! I already knew 20% tips included in the check before I visited but it was still inconveniencing. I couldn’t see any extra ordinary service. (I don’t get it how they are awarded for hospitality) They said it’s for consistent wage for employers but their paycheck isn’t employee’s responsibility?

The server seemed like she would rather be somewhere else, completely disinterested in our inquiries, everybody else (hostess, busboys) were very welcoming and friendly. The food was different, good, might return to try something else.

I can only attest to the breakfast menu, but it was simplistically excellent. Menu is concentrated on things they do best and most of everything is done in house. ( Highly suggest the chicken sausage - it's light years from the sodium enriched products on the market). With that said, service was great, everyone had indiscriminate tattoos and the beer list is kicking. Book ahead, if not it's worth the wait 🤘

Truly heavenly breakfast...the best breakfast I've had in a year. A must visit if you ever can....I know I won't miss a chance. Note: Reserve your spot in advance. Walk-ins are highly NOT recommended, it gets full super quick.

Solid food and even better service.

Haven't been here in a few years but it's just as quaint and delicious as I remember! The wait was over an hour for two people, so take that into consideration for busier days. We killed time at a coffee shop down the street. The service was kind and helpful. The food was scrumptious! I had the tofu scramble which is a bit more of a lunch dish. It did come with toast and what appeared to be house made jam. 😋 My boyfriend had the burrito was was generous and cheesy! They had a few spirit free drinks which I always like to sample. The Seedlip Spice one was delectable! It's the first NA spirit that I'd consider buying and having at home. Over all, great experience, can't wait to go back.

Our brunch experience might've been a fluke, but both our dishes were salty. Whole experience felt a bit over hyped, wasn't worth waiting an hour. Was a good brunch, but honestly, have had better without the wait.

Lula is one of the few places for which I’ll get over my disdain for no-reservation/long wait time policies (though would still strongly suggest that you opt for a weekday brunch over weekend one if possible) Their brunch isn’t the most ‘inventive’ but it’s delicious and consistently well-executed. The breakfast burrito is well-composed, featuring beautifully textured eggs and a soffritto so good you almost don’t miss the absence of meat (but only almost). The trout scramble is simpler, but balanced: salty trout interweaves though fluffy eggs and is tempered by just the right amount of dill The only underwhelming aspect of Lula is the service - the kitchen seems to get backed up easily when it’s busier than expected (e.g., a surprising brunch rush on a weekday), and the servers are not very attentive or warm

I was very surprised by the lackluster food. The Tagine was literally a bowl of sauce and parboiled chickpeas with a parsley and mint garnish. Tagine is supposed to be a beautiful, rich, stew of legumes, vegetables, herbs and fruits. I think one carrot was involved with the bowl I received. Regardless, it will be a great base to use at home for something else. In addition, the staff was absolutely lovely and the atmosphere was beautiful.

This was such a cute spot! They had indoor and outdoor seating. It was busy but we got seated right away. The menu was simple and not overwhelming which was nice. We ordered nitro cold brews which came in the cutest glasses! For meals we got the Lula 99 turkey sandwich and added an egg which made for a great breakfast sandwich. We also got the royale and the crepe. The royale was so delicious filled with flavors. We were expecting the crepe to be on the sweeter side however it was a savory dish, still delicious. I’d definitely be back!

I used to really like Lula and I have been coming here for a while. However, they are now getting too greedy. My takeout order of two burritos and one side of potatoes was $60. I know the burrito is $16 and I got one with bacon, so that one should be $22 (which is still insane for a burrito). But where they get you is the 20% service fee. They apply this for all orders, including takeout orders. When I asked if I could remove this fee since I am just picking up, the host said it can’t be removed but I could talk to the manager. Their reasoning was so that they could pay their staff a live-able wage. I am not sure why that is the responsibility of your patrons. They don’t mention that this fee will be applied when ordering over the phone, and the whole thing feels very dishonest and “shady”, just to milk out some extra money. It’s sad because the food is good, but in no world should two burritos and one side of potatoes come out to $60, especially when you are picking it up.

Eating at Lula is always special! I have made it a tradition now to go on my birthday for breakfast and they have made me feel so special everytime. The food, service & atmosphere is perfection. It’s a relaxed & inviting atmosphere, the food is too die for and everyone is super friendly. ☺️

Fantastic experience. The food and cocktails were delicious and inventive. And the service was impeccable - incredibly warm, welcoming, and kind. We needed to move one table over to accommodate a larger party (which we were happy to do and was not a big deal), but the hostess sent us complimentary drinks for this truly minor inconvenience. Lula knows exactly how to make its guest feel cared for. Just perfect.

The scrambled eggs are ridiculously fluffy, and the home fries are crispy as hell. I can definitely recommend the smoked trout scramble as it doesn't actually taste fishy, it just has a great subtle flavour. The chocolate babka is a touch dry but tastes wonderful!

Favorite restaurant in Chicago for years. The food is always on point. Fresh local and ever changing menu. Innovative yet in no way stuffy. Super approachable upscale hipster vibe. Great staff. The desserts are exceptional and highly unique and probably the most underrated in town.

Totally epic, eclectic dishes, crazy flavor combinations. Easley amongst the top 3 best breakfast restaurants in the city, easily one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city, easily one of the most delicious cocktails EVER. Did I mention it’s affordable?!? I don’t think a single thing on the menu tops $20 including the drinks. Service is a tad slow in regards to placing your order & getting the food in front of you but who cares when it’s this good.

Great food, sweet service, delicious coffee. They kindly walked me through the menu options that would be safe for my gluten-free diet restrictions - which turned out to be most of the menu! We enjoyed our lunch so much that we ordered dinners to take home.

I came here in January with one of my friends while I was visiting Chicago and I loved the food. The restaurant is super cute, and we were seated by the window with a cute view and sunlight. The food is very flavorful and vibrant and I highly appreciate the presentation. I definitely need to go back during one of my next visits.

Definitely lived up to the hype. I was able to walk right in on a Monday morning after landing in Chicago. The breakfast burrito is amazing and filling. The creaminess of the egg scramble in the burrito was perfect and not dry at all. Also got a delicious coconut banana muffin. Will definitely be back.

First time visiting and I was not disappointed. I saw an Instagram post about their breakfast burrito being one of the best in the city and had to check it out. I sat at the bar for brunch and bartender Ruth was incredible. Very friendly and made me feel like the only one in the restaurant. Very accommodating. I had the burrito and sourdough rhubarb French toast. Both were INCREDIBLE. Don’t sleep on this place, check it out for brunch or dinner!
