Fine Dining at it's Best . You Won't Be Disappointed.

Traveling through and this was a great place. Great food and service. Glad we stopped.

Hidden Gem, I liked it very much.

Called ahead for a reservation. The guy sounded like a zombie on the phone. Showed up on time. Stood at the door for 3-4 minutes before the same grumpy dude sat us at a table and said it's just him and the owner and that it could be a while for us to get served. 15 minutes later and no bread, no water, no service...so we walked out. Absolute joke. Friends of course went the next night. Exact same situation. They didn't walk out and they were there for almost 2 hours.

While the chef puts a lot of effort into the dishes and talking to the patrons, it is at the sacrifice of the quality of the food and causes the meal to be painfully long. Some of the sauces are overpowering, and rather than enhancing the main ingredient in the dish, it hid its flavor, in the case of the filet we had this was ok because it was charred on the surface. In addition, I'm personally not a fan of raw onions, and they were used through a number of dishes. So be sure to ask if they are in the dish you are ordering if you don't like raw onions as well. The risotto we had was undercooked as well. While they did apologize about everything and give us a free dessert, it felt like this was more of the norm than an exception. I believe at one time this was a great establishment, but now has faded into the faux elegance of an 80's supper club. I feel that there is still a lot of potential here it will take some work for it to regain its glory.

I flew to St Louis for a Retreat from Jax, Florida, then rented a car to meet up with one of my most incredible four brothers, so we could catch up, and enjoy the perfect dining experience. And we found it, from the moment we entered. Our large family owned and worked a restaurant for 14 years, and our evening here...we were royalty, in a beautiful setting, with the Owner/Chef and our remarkable Hostess showing how it's done. This was a special occasion for us- so many things to give and share, we were nuts, and we lingered, okay, dessert, of course! The meal, only fresh, only the best, prepared exquisitely. We were kings for the evening, and there's just not enough room here to elaborate. Except to say- it's one of those events you never forget, and love to share with folks. We're blessed and grateful to have experienced it!

What can I say? If you have dinner at Magdy’s you are family. Atmosphere is great and food is fantastic. Magdy takes his time to be sure you have the best experience possible.

The food was incredible and our server was a true gem! We did have a rather long wait for our entrees (perhaps kitchen staffing issues?), but the Red Snapper in a cream cheese crab sauce was amazing! I liked the flavor of potatoes and veggies, but they were a little undercooked for me- although my husband and grandson thought they were fine (I prefer a little more tender). You could literally taste the freshness of the house salad and their in-house blue cheese dressing was perfection! The complimentary bread had the perfect combination of crusty bite and pillowy softness inside. We look forward to returning when we are in Terre Haute again.

Absolutely the best marsala chicken I have ever tasted. The sauce was incredible! Service was great and personable.. Walked out feeling very satisfie and happy having a lively conversation with the chef. :) Bon appetit! Update 10/28/2023 STILL THE BEST EVER!!!!

Absolutely great service, food and drinks. I was skeptical reading all the reviews but didn't want to do another chain steakhouse or similar. I saw beef Wellington on the menu and decided to try. Best beef Wellington I've ever had.

A great restaurant, nice atmosphere and delicious food ! Would highly recommend if you like a good restaurant with quiet atmosphere! We had the “special” , it was delicious! Mushroom ravioli served with a delicious sauce . Would rate a 5 star! !

I've lived here for a long time and this was my first visit to Magdy's. It was outstanding. The food was excellent and the service was excellent. I was surprised at the low prices. My only complaint was the long wait between the salad and the entrees; however, I understood that only one person cooks the food, so under the circumstances, the wait was to be expected, and it was well worth it. Delicious!

This is the best meal I have ever had. Sorry Mom. I Ate the Lamb T bone, Clam Chowder, Smoked Salmon and Mushroom appetizers.

We hit the jackpot at Magdy's! Thanks to a lot of great reviews, our GPS directed us to this amazing restaurant in Terre Haute. Coming from Boston we didn't think we could find a restaurant that matched our amazing North End restaurants. Guess what? We found it. Valerie greeted us at the door, sat us at a perfect table. And in an instant we had drinks, fresh baked bread and our memorable evening started. Magdy came out and chatted before asking us what he could cook for us. What? I have never had that happen. My Aunt had a steak but couldn't have the sauce. No worries, Magdy created something for her that was amazing. My sister wanted shaved salmon. No problem. When Valerie told us about Magdy's delicious alfredo sauce, we asked for a small plate to share - VOILA - it appeared. And to end the most wonderful evening, Magdy brought to the table a specially prepared bread pudding with caramel sauce. And Valerie brought freshly brewed decaf with a carafe for a few more cups. Magdy and Valerie went out of their way to make our dining experience off the charts! We can't wait to return:)

It was our first time at Magdy's. The wait staff were amazing, and the food was melt in your mouth delicious! The chef Magdy came out, and greeted every table personally. We had a filet mignon and rack of lamb as our entrees, and then baklava for dessert. This is a MUST go to restaurant!

"Thank you, Magdy, and we'll be back again and again!" We said that in 2020, and yesterday, we returned with the same couple for another shared Anniversary Dinner. Everything was delicious, as usual. It's all too easy to overeat here, you don't want to stop since it's all so good. We ended up taking dessert home because you just can't pass it up but you can't eat anymore there!

The atmosphere was lovely and the food was delicious, but it took forever to come out. I realize this is a fancy establishment where everything is made fresh for you, but it was right at hour and a half from the time we ordered until we got our meals. That's a long time.

A Valentine's Day Dinner with my wife's Church and it was nicely done. Service was excellent and the food was delicious.

As others said nothing impressive from the outside but fantastic food and service. Quality of the meal is unmatched for the area and you really feel at home here. Only wish they had not been out of the higher end wine! Our bottle was good but the steak deserved a greater pairing

It is pretty inside but the food is bland and the server only came around 3 times. 15 minutes after we were seated and 45 min later when the food arrived. And another 45 min later with the check.

Do NOT judge from the outside, although I can see why you might. We took a chance and we were blown away. It was a very quaint and nicely decorated restaurant. It had white linen tablecloths and napkins, nice music and everything was very clean. They had a nice wine list and we ordered some chardonnay as an appetizer....and then an actual appetizer. For the main fare we ordered beef wellington and chicken caprese. The food was absolutely delicious! Chef Magdy came out and spoke with us. He was absolutely charming!! He comped us free desserts, which were also delicious, and made us feel like we were eating with an old friend. We dressed for the occasion, but it is not necessary at all. It's a very comfortable, fine dining experience. Give it a try.

Magdy is a class act. He is so friendly, hilarious and personable. The atmosphere is calm and inviting, and clean. He treats you like family and his staff is respectful. Now when it comes to the food, it is simply exquisite. One of the best I've ever tasted. I had salmon with some shrimp added and some other alterations. Yes, he can do that too. It was so juicy and freshly cooked. I truly loved my experience here. I will definitely be back and excited to try something new on the menu.

Omg! What a find! We were just in Terre Haute for the night and found good reviews for Magdy's so we decided to drop in for dinner. This was the best meal we've had in the past year. Magdy, who PERSONALLY came to our table to ask how everything was, is an artist with food. The presentation was lovely but oh, the flavors! It was a party in my mouth! My husband ordered the clam chowder to start but the waiter said unfortunately it was gone for the evening. But Magdy said he'd make some for my husband! We thought the best clam chowder we'd ever had was in Rhode Island but this was incredible. So many wonderful flavors combined to make such a delightful chowder. The entrees we selected were seared yellowfin tuna and my husband had the red snapper with crabmeat in a creamy sauce. The tuna was just very lightly seared with an incredible sauce. Just a hint of Wasabiin the sauce that said let the party begin! The red snapper with crab was cooked to perfection. It was light and flaky and melted in my mouth. It's rare that I will finish a whole restaurant meal but I couldn't stop eating! Magdy truly is an artist with flavors. Oh, and save room for dessert. Magdy makes homemade baklava and tiramisu. More deliciousness! Was this place heaven? No but I think I caught a glimpse of it from our table.

We found this restaurant on trip advisor and the menu looked interesting. The food was excellent, well seasoned and nicely presented. The prices were reasonable and service was good. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in town.

I had the Chicken a la Magdy and the garlic-balsamic sauce alone was worth a return visit, but my wife had the Beef Wellington and what little I had was absolutely amazing. Magdy and his staff are incredibly friendly and the service was tremendous. I highly recommend it.

We had an amazing time and we enjoyed the food and appreciated the whole experience. Our dinner started with complementary bread and butter. After that, we had a salad with a delicious dressing. Our main course was a dish of quail in special wild mushrooms sauce, a dish of a rack of lamb which I highly recommended, a dish of snapper with homemade cajun spice, and the venison on the cherry port sauce. For dessert, we had this delicious tiramisu. Magdy the owner is a very skilled chef and a friendly welcoming person. This place is one of the best places for me. Highly recommended and it’s better to call before you go.

Chicken a-la Magdy was great, just the right amount of garlic. Tiramisu was like it’s supposed to be and not that quick stuff. Service was good and accommodating, enjoyed my dinner.

The restaurant is unexpected. We hadn't dined here before although we had always wanted to - now we regret the missed meals. We have never had the experience of the actual chef coming to our table to answer questions and offer options. He and his staff seem like lovely people and we look forward to getting to know them thru more evening meals with them. Husband had chicken marsala and I had the shrimp and scallops in cream sauce. Both meals were delicious and sauces just wonderful. Scallops pretty much some of the best ever. Served with tasty sides - I even liked the cauliflower in the veggies and I don't like cauliflower. He opted for French onion soup which was very good. I had the Caesar salad which was also very good. Wines are nicely priced and we felt very welcome. So well fed so we brought home a tiramisu - can't wait to eat that. It looks amazing. Highly recommend - Don't miss this restaurant. It's fine dining at a reasonable price. Go when you can take some time - you won't regret.

Wonderful Friday evening dinner! We've been in the area 3 years and don't know how this establishment has escaped our notice. The atmosphere radiated old world charm and class and fostered an "intimate" dining experience. Upon arrival, the first thing noted was white table cloths, little bowls of real butter on the table, and a quietness that soothed away the week's anxieties. Next came a leisurely time of one delicious entrée after another. My husband and I were delighted with French Onion soup, salads, a Ribeye steak, and Beef Wellington. We had no room for dessert. Oh, and a bar was visible if interested in an adult beverage. We will certainly return!

We found this special place on our way back from Michigan to Texas. We were hungry and googled restaurants. They welcomed us with open arms. We had a great time and found a new regular stop while we are in town. The portions were perfect, the flavors were genuine and fresh. The food melted in your mouth. The chef, Mr Magdy, was such a delightful host and was full of cheer and talent. This will be something we talk about and remember for awhile. We truly can’t wait to stop by again.

Best kept secret in terre haute

This place is a hidden gem. The food was excellent and the staff was extremely friendly. The chef comes out and talks with the diners and checks up on you. We had the beef wellington and it was so flavorful. We will be back again for sure!!

Magdys is the most delicious and fine dining experience more on the quiet side . We always attend on celebrations and special occasions it’s always the same perfect experience every time . We love the smoked salmon and rack of lamb.

What a great experience! My wife and I dined here on her Birthday which was a Monday evening which turned out to be the quiet night of the week and we had the most marvelous meal and conversation with Magdy.The rack of lamb was cooked to perfection and my wife had primavera pasta. The meal was presented to us over a couple of hours which was great--no hurry-hurry and we enjoyed a bottle of very nice sauvignon blanc and Magdy's company between courses. Great to find an independent restaurant with an owner who cares about the customer.

Everything is delicious but i love the lamb chops and bananas foster the best!

It had been 17 years since we had eaten there. No reason other than it had relocated and wasn't on our radar. The Beef Wellington and Steak Diane were perfectly prepared and served as ordered. And they were delicious. The salad dressings tasted homemade. And the bananas Foster was just ok but maybe that was because we were no longer hungry. It is nice to have an upscale restaurant in town. Highly revommended.

Kathie and I were out last night and decided rather than return to the house for dinner, to eat at a nice restaurant. Since it was Saturday, many of our haunts would have waiting lists. Immediately, I realized that it had been a while since we'd visited our old friend Chef Magdy. Somehow this wonderful restaurant is seldom crowded. That is always to our amusement because the food is as good as any in town. The prices are slightly upscale but hardly what I'd call expensive. We enjoyed two wonderful, and distinct meals, with the most pleasurable ambiance one could imagine. You don't go there in a hurry. Each course is patiently and superbly delivered. The music is tasteful and the food is absolutely wonderful. Chef Magdy chided us for not finishing all our food but we'll not regret it a bit as we enjoy the leftovers tonight. It's the best kept secret in Terre Haute.

We made a quick trip to Terre Haute from Paris (about 30 minutes) and decided to stop at Magdy's for supper. It was a good decision. They were not crowded so we had great service on a Wednesday night. As always, Magdy will prepare any dish on the menu to your specific request, just ask the wait staff. We had the seared tuna, which had a delightful soy-wasabi-olive oil sauce lightly on the tuna which was seared, sliced, and fanned out on the plate. The sides were rice and seasonal vegetables which were done fresh and crisply. For the second plate, there were several veal preps available, but the choice was Veal Marsala, which was served with seasonal vegetables, and boiled/seasoned new potatoes. The plated food presentation for both dishes was very good, and the food was excellent. Salads and fresh hot bread was served before the meal. There are several wine choices available from a stocked bar. Do not forget the desert choices, we split a Tiramisu, which was just right for the two of us.

Magdy is the Egyptian owner/chef. His seafood is wonderful as it is served slightly undercooked. Therefore, it is very moist. His claim to fame is the sauce for most dishes. He even comes to the table to tell the variations he can create to personalize your plate. Wine choices are excellent and affordable. Shawn is always our waiter and he is excellent.

Owner was kind enough to host my sons rehearsal dinner on a busy night. Food was FANTASTIC. Service was great. And Magdy, the owner was passionate about what he does. I will be back. Best restaurant we have ever been to in Terre Haute.

I was raised in Terre Haute and have made many visits back from my home in San Francisco where I currently reside with my family and practice law. On my visits I make it a point to dine at Magdy's. His food is excellent and compares favorably with the fine restaurants in San Francisco. But it is cooked for you by Magdy, which is special. His warmth and hospitality are also special. I would not miss dining there and I wish he were here so I could enjoy it more. I knew Magdy before he opened his first restaurant. He worked at Larry Bird's Inn. He has not changed. He cares. You will enjoy his restaurant and hospitality. The best!

We have had the privilege of dining at Magdy’s on many occasions and never has the experience disappointed. Most occasions I have had the rack of lamb or beef Wellington and both are always cooked to perfection. I would never hesitate to recommend the experience to anyone.
