Japchae is the best around! I regularly take out food here. I find the food is usually better during the day versus evening.

Everything we had a delicious and this is a picky group. Food prep was very slow send the cocktail was tiny and overpriced though it was decent.

We stopped by at this restaurant during our stay in Harrisonburg. 1st time at a Korean restaurant. Food flavor was good, serving size was average and prices were reasonable. Server was attentive and polite. Ambience is average. We preferred to sit inside. They do have an outside area but there was a not so pleasant odor (possibly due to trash cans) Restaurant was close to the hotel and James Madison University.

We visited Mashita in Harrisonburg recently for the second time, and the Korean BBQ was fantastic. When we last visited, I tried the pulled pork, pork buns, so this time, I tried the pork belly. While I preferred the pulled pork variety better, the pork belly was cooked perfectly. The buns themselves were light, airy, and delicious in their delicatness. For the side on both trips, I selected the sprouts. They were amazing, I suggest the "Sweet & Spicy Mashita" sauce for the sprouts and the pork buns.

Cool spot with good food and free arcade games stands. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. I got the takeout bibimbap and it was really good!

Man, I'm kicking myself for seeing the food truck around town for years and never stopping there. The food is absolutely amazing, have tried 3 different entrees so far and plan on getting to them all. 10/10

My wife and I decided to have Mashita cater our welcome dinner for our wedding because we love their food, and they are very good about adjusting for allergies (particularly gluten). After we had our welcome dinner tasting meal, we realized that we wanted them to cater our wedding too. Spencer, the catering manager, and Chef Mikey were absolutely incredible throughout the whole process. They adjusted easily as we needed them to - adding items to our menu up until 2 weeks prior to our wedding weekend. We had our welcome dinner on the patio at Mashita, and it was a beautiful atmosphere to begin the celebrations. Our guests repeatedly said that the food was amazing. Even as complications arose, they made sure that everything still ran smoothly for both of our events. We are so grateful to Spencer, Chef Mikey, and the rest of the Mashita team!

The food here was really good. The service was unfortunately not good - not friendly and were not very helpful.

I love this restaurant! It's definitely one of the best in Harrisonburg and the Korean food is really good. My favorite is the bibimbap with pork belly. For a busy night, I would recommend getting a reservation.

I highly encourage people to check out this restaurant. The good and wait staff is amazing…my only complaint was the bartender on duty..he was EXTREMELY rude to his teammates and made myself and several other guest uncomfortable with his attitude and yelling. I understand it being a long day and the end of dinner service…but his attitude was unfair to his teammates and unprofessional for guests. If I return and he’s working I will be getting takeout

The food here is crazy good! I definitely recommend the kimchi burrito. It’s huuuuge and the prices are so cheap for the quality and quantity you get. Our server was so nice and attentive too. Love coming here.

We went here for the start of the bar crawl and it was so good! They gave us the wrist band, the staff was nice, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was nice! Would recommend to anyone who is looking for this cuisine as it will do the job!

The food slaps and the staff are friendly. Patrick is great. They also have several 2-player video game systems and the music was choice. Art everywhere. Good times were had.

Stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon to meet friends for lunch. The Eggplant Katsu was excellent. Cynthia our waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, and a great person.

Mashita catered our 150 person wedding reception with buffet-style service. A number of guests told us it was the best food they’d ever had at a wedding. One guest returned for a 5th serving and another (who’s gluten free) said she’s never eaten so well at a wedding. Mashita staff were responsive and helpful throughout the event and the planning process. They handled the buffet setup, serving, and clean-up with ease. Would highly recommend their catering for future events.

Highly recommend!!! I’ve been a fan of Mashita Food Truck since its inception, and today I finally got to try the brick & mortar restaurant! The food was delicious, of course—steamed buns are my fave—and it’s so nice inside! There are amazing murals are different walls as well as art from local artists. Service was great and the owner/chef is awesome. I really can’t wait to go back and try more dishes!!

Celebrating a friends birthday. We have all been here before and thoroughly enjoyed the visit and decided to come back. We had a variety of dishes /appetizers that we split among us. Mashita wowed me with their amazing steamed buns – a perfect blend of flavors. Jenrie, our server, was fantastic, recommending this standout dish. The cozy atmosphere and overall commitment to great food make Mashita a must-try; I'll definitely be back!

I went a couple days ago and enjoyed my overall experience. The food was delicious I got a bibimbap, the steam bun sample, and Spicy rice cake. My boyfriend got the chicken katsu and enjoyed his meal as well. But the highlight of the evening was our server Jen. She was very attentive and friendly, making sure to check on us throughout our meal. I will definitely be coming back awesome food and service.

The pork belly sliders are incredible and the place looks wonderful.

This was my first time at this restaurant. My group was pleasantly greeted as we arrived. We had the 3 bun sampler with, chicken, pork, and spicy tofu. The buns were delicious. The spicy tofu was so good, some of the best I've ever eaten. For my main entree, I had a fall special dish which consisted of noodles, shrimp and broccoli in a spicy peanut sauce. It was definitely not what I expected and not in a good way. The noodles were thin spaghetti and the sauce seemed to have no peanut component to it. Another person in my group ordered the Mashita Bibimbap with the Bulgogi Beef which they said was good although the consistency of the egg white was off putting. Even though it wasn't the best experience, I would be willing to visit again.

The pork belly is divine 😌 The menu is creative, well executed, and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed dining on the patio which is donned in beautiful murals and street art, covered, and spacious. The waitstaff were incredibly kind and very knowledgeable about the menu. We can’t wait to go back!

Mashita will not disappoint. Our daughter atteds JMU and every time we visit her we make sure either one of our lunches or dinner is at Mashita. I tend to like a good amount of quantity when I eat. The serving size here is plentiful. The taste is fantastic and the service is spot on. Keep up the good work!!!

I love this Place!! Those Kimchi Fries are soooo delicious!! Great environment, the vibe is always positive, great food, and i get to play on the arcade while i wait!! (Its never a long wait). Taylor is always kind and respectful, always great conversation!! Definitely coming back!!

Let me start off my saying the food is good. There is nothing wrong with the food Mashita serves. However, the food at Mashita is a lazy hybrid of Korean food. I had never eaten at Mashita before. Every time I drove by Mashita the cooks and servers were always standing outside on the sidewalk smoking cigarettes and it was a huge turn off to me. So I never went. As a strange turn of events I ended up eating at Mashita twice in a week with friends. This place has a big identity problem and was a topic of our conversation during my dinners there. Is it a restaurant or an arcade? A catering company? Is it fine dining or a hole-in-the-wall local joint? Is it a dining spot for voyagers or families? A small business or a money laundering front? The place has a vibe that just can't be pinpointed, and the local art wasn't doing the Korean jive any favors. First, this is supposed to be a Korean-style restaurant serving Korean themed entrees. On my first trip to Mashita the special for the night was a meatball sub. The second night they had the meatball sub and a hamburger. I didn't have either one, but not sure where a meatball sub or hamburger fits in the realm of Korean-style food. I had the bibimbap one evening and bulgogi with steamed buns the next. The food was good. I ate it all. Depending on your expectations you may like this food as well. But it's a lazy version of a Korean meal. The Eumyangohaeng was missing. The five colors and five textures were missing. And there was nothing really adventurous on the menu. The menu was safe, and other than the meatball sub nothing really stood out. Another odd thing about this place is the game room. Mashita has a game room with video games and arcade games. It's very distracting. I'm not sure it's a Korean thing, either. IDK, it was just odd to see and took away from the dining experience. On the second trip we decided to sit outside because of the games inside and the patio was open. Outside there was a very large painting on the exterior wall where you sit. This painting was even weirder than the games inside. The painting wasn't a food theme or Korean in nature. It was more of a Japanese anime inspired painting. It didn't make me hungry. It didn't depict Harrisonburg, VA or Rockingham County. It didn't tell a story. It was just very odd. The people at Mashita were nice and the service was average or a little better than average. I didn't have a problem with the pricing, but I guess I expected a bit more effort from the kitchen. Parking can be a challenge if you're not from the area.

Food is great, but the service not so much. They routinely miss items in my take out orders, nitpick over substitutions, and the amount of protein included varies day by day from tons to barely any. Also, none of their takeout containers are recyclable (not even the solo cup lids), which in this day and age from a modern restaurant, is not okay. If they adopted more of an attitude of generosity, I’m sure the uptick in customers would make up for the small costs they’re recovering with this kind of behavior. For someone with such good food, I wish they would do better.

We’ve been coming to Mashita since it was just a food truck. Will always recommend this slice of heaven to Harrisonburg townees and distant travelers alike. Taylor and Olivia are queens among peasants.

The food was okay, but we will never go back because of the TERRIBLE experience we had with Mikey and the management there. We rented the back room for my son's rehearsal dinner for $300 for two hours, and our guests purchased well over $1,000 in food and beverages. However, the server neglected to tell us that they charged us over $200 gratuity, so my husband added $275 gratuity to the credit card receipt when he signed it. When we got home and realized what happened, we called and explained the situation to the owner, and asked if he could give us a gift receipt for some of that duplicate charge (not even asking him to return the money to us). Mikey then emailed my son (on his honeymoon!) to threaten that we better just let them keep the nearly $500 gratuity or he would charge us an additional $500 because we were there an extra half an hour. During that last half hour, the room was open and other people came in and were served. So, consider yourself warned: they will lie and cheat you out of your money, and then threaten you if you dare to ask for their cooperation to work out a compromise. The lack of business acumen and customer service is astounding. One star - do not recommend. UPDATE: My son and new wife just returned from their honeymoon which was ruined by Mikey emailing them ANOTHER invoice for an ADDITIONAL $550. My son will pay it just to end this nightmare, but I am truly stunned by the level of just plain meanness from the management here.

This was worth the drive from 81. It's so good, I'm ready to drive to Harrisonburg exclusively so I can eat there. It got bigger since my last visit. So happy!

Great restaurant that I am so glad I gave a chance to. I've lived in Harrisonburg for 55 years and never been to this restaurant or a Korean eating establishment. Tasty food made with care. I liked the menu options. I will gladly return... Plant based options too.

Me and my partner eat here frequently and love it! We’re locals to the area and usually stop by about once a week. The food is always delicious and the customer service is on point!

Was looking for Asian cuisine in the area while on vaca and we hit the jackpot with this establishment. Food is excellent! Had the bimbap with brisket and absolutely love it. The brisket is tender and delicious! We will definitely comeback when we are in the area again.

Had to update this review since it became an official location. The steamed buns are superb (splurge and get the pork belly it is so worth it). The location is cute and is now even larger! I'm happy to hear they try to use local ingredients. And I always like to see someone trying to be inventive in Harrisonburg. Stick to the steamed buns (they're all good) or Japchae with local mushrooms, and you'll leave very happy.

If you can find the time to eat here...then you should...it's amazing. My only issue here that I hope they expand their food offerings out to feel less like a food truck on the menu. I am no no way saying this place is not good...it's amazing actually. I am saying that they have so much freakin potential and they need to reach for the stars!

Family of four and we all loved our dishes. Very different for me, but very, very good. Excellent in every way. I had beef binibop which was excellent. My veggie daughter had the kimchi quesadilla which she loves, and she knows veggie food, my wife had mushroom buns and bilgoggi buns which she said were great. Everyone loved their meal, very different and very good.

This place is great all the way around. In a time of disappointing food and service from restaurants, Mishima knocks it out of the park. Amazing food, and great service. Jade is a great servera

We stopped here for a late lunch while passing through town and were thrilled to find this Korean spot using Google Maps. We tried the delicious mandu and Kimbap appetizers, both were fresh and delicious. For entrees we tried the excellent bulgogi bowl, crispy chicken katsu, and soft, pillowy steamed buns with pork and beef. Everything was outstanding and the service was friendly and warm. Definitely a great meal, make time to visit Mashita, it's worth the drive.

It was everything we had hoped for. The wings were crispy and full of flavor. The steamed buns were perfect and the meats cooked just right. Everything came to us quickly and the server was super helpful. It was not overly expensive and dessert was great!

The food was ok…but the server was awful, felt like she was trying to kick us out the whole time. I would understand if they were busy, but it wasn’t, and there were plenty of open tables. She almost snatched up my plate while I was still eating. I hope they train their staff better in the future, it was a really unpleasant experience that I will never repeat.

Kimbap and the service were my favorite, the main meal was alright, but wish it had a more impactful flavor. I'd eat here again, but would try a different main. The service was great and everyone was friendly that we interacted with.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the menu at first glance... I love Korean food, having lived there a few years. It was limited and expensive. But we gave it a chance, and we were hungry. Then the food came. Quickly. Damn. The japchae wasn't spicy enough, but otherwise was extremely flavorful and amazing! I forgot the name of my wife's dish, but it was quite amazing as well. Kimchi was perfectly spiced, if expensive, so worth it. Service was delightful. Had good conversations and we felt really cared for as customers. Overall, we spent a pretty penny for two people, but I'd go back with few reservations! Oh, and the meal was filling but I didn't feel bloated. A characteristic of good Korean food! And the accompanying sauces... oh that sweet/spicy sauce was on point!

The steamed buns are to die for. They’re so fluffy and soft I want a giant one to sleep on and then I could roll over and take a bite when I wake up.

It's my favorite restaurant downtown. The food is great, the portions are satisfying, and the price is pretty reasonable. It's my go-to when friends come in from out of town or for a celebration.

Love, love, love Mashita's!! They have awesome food, including several vegan and vegetarian options. The staff is super friendly and the service is great! Spacious outdoor dining area on their deck makes this especially enjoyable during the warm months. Check it out!

Absolutely delicious food (we went specifically to get the hot dog specials, they were FANTASTIC); you can tell the chef puts a lot of effort into creating complimentary flavors in the dishes. We originally sat outside but it started raining and our server helped us rush inside real quick--we had the place to ourselves after the Memorial Day rush! They were very helpful and kind, and suggested a delicious dessert. One gender neutral bathroom and front door accessible, the back porch has stairs to exit but you can get outside relatively easy enough.

Absolutely exceptional, they should make a 9 buns sampler because they're just too good! I also tried the bibimbap with beef bulgogi and it was delicious, tried it with all three sauces and the Mashita sauce was my favorite. I would def come here again 10/10

A small but well executed menu of very good, authentic korean food. Highlights are a simple but excellent bibimbap, and excellent pork belly, beef bulgogi, and steamed buns. The chicken wings were a bit tough, but had a great sauce, even if fairly spicy! The seating and design of the space are nice looking and fairly comfortable, but the live edge tables aren't all spacious, some are a bit narrow. Also, the industrial chic is nice looking, but needs sound deadening. The concrete and steel make it quite noisy with just a few parties.

Very very fusion . This place was prob fantastic as a food truck, but the restaurant was just ok. Not sure why there was a whole load of spring greens and raw bean sprouts? Kimchi fries were good, kimchi was good. Weirdest thing ever to have an Asian place where rice is an extra side you have to order??

Love having dedicated vegan options. Was absolutely delicious. Super flavorful and satisfying. I look forward to trying more.
