I have been coming to Minh Hai for over a decade, it is truly a hidden gem in Cranston; the absolute best place to come for authentic Vietnamese food- not only is the food beyond amazing, but the atmosphere makes you feel like you're home. This is a family-owned small business that deserves all of Rhode Island's customers, you're missing out if you don't take my advice and try this restaurant; I usually come for pho with chicken, pictured here are pho #1, pho #10, and Nime Chow.

The best pho I’ve ever had. The broth tastes like a second home I’ve unknowingly longed to be a part of my whole life. Run by the sweetest couple- no employees. This place has sustained me through the years. It deserves 5 Michelin stars. The rice and chicken/beef plate is the most perfectly made food I’ve ever tasted. I’d live here if I could. I’d be buried here if I could.

Incredible and authentic small business complete with the background sound of Vietnamese news channel. Food quality is great, time to serve is a bit longer as it was staffed by literally 2 people and all food was made fresh to order. However they are incredibly kind, clearly are loved by the community, and simply make great food. Come here for food made with love, but don’t expect this to be a fast food restaurant or a fancy or romantic place.

TL;DR: Go elsewhere. Where do I begin... The place doesn't look great. But I like my pho places no frills, so that was no issue. We were greeted nicely and sat down. It was around 6 pm and nearly empty. Ordered an iced coffee and two lemonades, plus tofu rolls and our mains (a pho and two Bun dishes). They're low on lemons. Ok, fine, change lemonades to another iced coffee and a bubble tea. My hubby gets his iced coffee. And we got waters. Onward... Tofu rolls come out. The homemade peanut sauce that accompanied this dish was delicious. Then we waited. And waited. And a family that is obviously a regular customer comes in. They're greeted with hugs, started ordering, and food started flying out for them. We were still waiting. Still no second iced coffee or bubble tea. After about 30 minutes, our food shows up. Well, the Bun dishes do. The lady owner, who put sauce bottles on the table of the family, gives me a small bowl with a few squirts each of hoisin and Sriracha. When I asked for the bottles, she points to the bowl and says, "I gave you some." Say what?! The Bun dishes that my hubby and son ordered were basically iceberg salads topped with a small portion of noodles and meat. Both of them left hungry. My pho? 3 small slices of brisket, 3 smaller slices of eye round, and not enough noodles. The broth was bland and somehow became a flavor vacuum as I tried to save it by adding hoisin and chili garlic paste (also homemade and really good). But it was beyond help. How this place is still in business is baffling. A waste of money, time, and energy that could have been better spent at BK. And no, my kid never got his bubble tea, and my iced coffee got handed to me unceremoniously as I was reluctantly paying the bill.

Owners are beyond nice & the food is fantastic. Stop by and have the Pho in the state of Rhode Island + try the smoked grilled beef salad (Goi Bo) - absolutely amazing!!

I don't deviate from the pho Tai Today I had seafood and chicken pho and it was so delicious! I'm never sure about squid, but it was tender and incredibly delicious! Came with what I assume is house made Sriracha (if you like spicy food, highly recommended this yummy sauce). Everyone was very nice. Bathrooms are there for customers as well as on premise parking :)

I absolutely love this place. The 2 people running the restaurant are so nice and welcoming. Despite all of the reviews saying otherwise, our food came out super fast. It was a huge bowl and super flavorful. We both got the #1 Pho. I will be coming here often!

My family and I live in maine and visit our friends in Cranston. This is a must go to. From the time we leave maine we are already thinking about what we want to order. Everytime we come here same consistent delicious meal that is clearly 100% fresh Ingredients. We always order an additional meal to take home just to savor it alittle longer. Great owners that care about serving you the best authentic Vietnamese food. Can't wait to come back again.

Best pho in the state. You can tell it’s made from the heart. Their broth is so flavorful, I barely add anything to it. A dynamic duo runs the place— they take orders, serve, bus, and cook, so please be patient. I promise it is worth it. And order an iced coffee or fresh mango shake to go. You won’t regret it. I always love going here and ordering from here. The two owners are so adorable and the customer service is great. Although it’s just the two of them, they make it work. I hope the best for them.

Mom and pops owned restaurant. Full Disclaimer if you decide to eat here please bring patience with you, this restaurant is ran by just 2 people. Started my evening with a delicious freshly squeezed lemonade. Fresh , and very sweet. Had also the eggrolls and nime chow but they call it something completely different. It was great and fresh. Then to the star of the show the beef pho. Lets just say it was worth the wait. The broth is very flavorful you don’t even need to add anything to it (unless you want to make it spicy). 100% worth the wait. But keep in mind the service is slow but the food is fresh!

Extremely unprofessional!! I called to get takeout for my family and myself, they said 15-20 min so My wife and I drove from seekonk with our 3 children in the car for the owner to come out the back and tell me that I had to wait 30 more minutes! He was so unapologetic and didn't care at all for our situation, this had to be one of the worst experiences of our life!!!!

The pho is good, different taste in broth which I like. Quiet, low key and run by the owners whom are the sweetest and kindest.

We found this restaurant on Google maps and says it was open. But This place was closed when we got there. No updates on google regarding hours of operation.

Appetizers were absolutely delicious! Most of the entres were fine, but the pho was on the sweet side. The biggest issue for me was the extremely long wait time. If you go here call ahead your order 40+ minutes in advance.

They were out of a few items that we had ordered, but they made sure to let us know and take care of the situation before they began our take out order. The food tasted great.

The food is excellent. Minh, the owner, is very nice and really listens. It is well spaced out for covid restrictions. I asks for something very spicy and really got what I wanted. My wife also had a great Pho. It's a byob on top which is awesome, though you do need to bring your own glasses and corkscrew. I also had a jackfruit milkshake which slapped.

Minh Hai is my favorite go to spot for a hearty pho. The way the broth is made is rich and can feel heavy for some folks but I enjoy it because it’s like comfort food. I ordered the pho dacbiet #2 , fresh summer rolls with tofu, and avocado smoothie. The avocado smoothie is so good and I recommend it because it is creamy and sweet but be warned the boba gets hard quick because of the coldness of the drink. The tofu summer rolls are my favorite go to because of the crispness of the tofu mixed with the vermicelli and crunch of the salad in it. I will say this the takeout experience is really good for how busy they get. Everything was organized so well in my takeout I wasn’t worried about things spilling while driving to work. The experience dining in is you do receive more for what is packed for you in takeout. But the down side in dining in is the wait can take much longer. One thing though is the husband and wife are running the business on their own. This includes taking orders over the phone and handling dine ins. Be expected to wait at least a 30-45min for your order since they get pretty busy. Even though they might tell you 20mins it takes time. If they are very busy it can be an hour wait for your order. But the food is well worth the wait. They usually open at 2:30pm - 9pm except on Tuesdays. Sometimes they don’t open so call ahead to see if they are.

Sometimes the service is slow, particularly slow when there's more than 3 tables. The food is worth it though. The rice plates are wonderful. Cash only. Update: After my last two visits, I have to reduce my rating from 4-stars to 2-stars. It took 15 mins after ordering to tell us that they were out of rice and it would take 10-15 mins for rice to be done cooking. The food is still good but the service is too slow to recommend. So, if you have at least a hour, Minh Hai would be good (though we were there 1.5 hours a couple months ago; we're fast eaters as well) Update 9/13: The food is still delicious. I went on a Monday and was one of two tables. Service was expected but would still be concerned when it's busy. 4 stars!

I have been coming to this restaurant with my family for years. The food is always fresh and delicious.

The food is excellent, pretty reasonably priced and they let you BYOB, which for me is outstanding! The wait has been a bit long for the food, but in all fairness, every time I go here, it's with a lot of people. I recommend if you eat here and BYOB, that you tip pretty heavily because they still have to clean up your empties, etc. Great selection, really nice staff, and the food is incredible for the price!

some foods are very good and some just turn me off but that is just me. I love what they do here with beef dishes, It is a place that needs to be torn down and rebuilt. However,that being said,I do not know how much they can afford for rent and they seem to be doing some things to make it better. However,there are a lot of things that need to be done and they do not do it. Food is ok but the place itself does not make it where you want to go to eat. I hope they look at the place thru the eyes of the customer and they will do well as the food is good and the moma serves you and is just so nice.Hubby is the cook and he knows food but they need someone else to help them in the dining room for serving.

Great food, but doesn't open on time like their hours suggested

Best authentic PHO hands down....in RI!!! You can really taste the ingredients. The only thing negative I can say about the place is the service is very slow, but if you are ready for it in advance, come in, chill out and enjoy the hottest most delicious bowl of soup you'll ever have locally!!!

TBH, I have driven by this restaurant on and off for about 6 years and have mostly assumed that it is closed for business permanently. Imagine my surprise when one evening, I drove by and saw lights on and a few cars on the parking lot. That was my cue to go in. The couple who own and run this joint, multi-tasking as servers and cooks, are sweet until they get overwhelmed and then they start making mistakes. It almost seems like they assume they will never be too busy. Well, I've dined here 3x and I have seen the occupancy go up to about 4 tables in the early evening, and things start to go awry. Just saying...we waited for a long time for an Iced tea with condensed milk that never came, and then were served Vietnamese cold, not hot as asked for, coffee. Sadly, the owner was nowhere near apologetic even though it was her hubby who committed the faux pas. Anyhoo, let's talk about the food because that is where it's at. The food is really delicious that it is easy for me to ignore the little service slips. I especially like that they have fish on the menu-- 3 kinds to choose from: the humble tilapia, the staple salmon, and then there's catfish fillet-- and squid. File under "more-than-just-shrimp" for seafood. I do not like how a catfish looks but I do like its delicately sweet flesh. Especially in this dish called "Ca Chien Mam Me" which is pan fried fillet with tamarind fish sauce. Very authentic. You can't go wrong with the Seafood Noodle Soup. I highly recommend the Special Rice, cooked in lightly flavored chicken broth with onions and garlic. The Pho Tai Nam-- beef noodle soup with eye round steak and well-done flank is satisfying. A must to try is the Clay Pot cooked rice with shrimp, chicken, broccoli, among others. There are also vegetarian dishes for non-meat eaters (not vegan). Oh, and of course, if you don't easily get caffeine jitters, enjoy that strong vietnamese coffee. So aromatic. So strong. So good. Okay, so now I just made myself hungry again...

Having worked at a pho restaurant before I'm very particular on the taste of pho. Minh Hai exceeded my expectations and their food was super flavorful just how I know vietnamese food should taste.

Amazing food that's freshly prepared and made to order. The bubble tea is really good, they have a bunch of flavors. They have everything from meat to vegetarian dishes and the sauces are all really great. I would highly suggest the clay pot!!

This place is awesome; I had the clay pot and the smoked beef sald which was too good for words. When you have a dish at a given restaurant that you crave after you leave, I mean a meal that you specifically go back there for.... It's a definite winner!! Minh and his wife are such nice people, and this is a BYOB establishment so bring you favorite wine and enjoy!!

We love this place! We've been going here for years. The dining area isn't anything special, but their food is amazing. Their appetizers are yummy, good boba tea, great pho and #26 is a fave of ours.

This place is an absolute hidden GEM. Been going here for about 6 years. I’ve had Pho all over RI, as well as Manhattan, NOTHING compares. If you haven’t been here, you’re missing out on hands down the best. Great small place, quiet, same owner the entire time.

Really, really good food. Stuff I haven't seen in any other restaurant, Vietnamese or otherwise. Friendly family run place that I always make a point of stopping at when I am in the area. Hole in the wall, not much to look at, but terrific, fresh food that will make you happy. Great value too.

I eat Pho a lot. Had it in Boston, London, NY...this place is better than Hon’s. Have not tried Pho Horn’s. But this broth is great! Sprouts and basil are fresh and they give you lots of jalapeños! I will definitely return. No need for the Extra Large. The large is plenty HUGE! Highly recommend for Pho soup!

I only said poor on this rating because of the rave reviews and the fact that a friend loves this place. So I'll give it one more try, but this experience was awful! The dishes were way too spicy, the service was poor, I had to yell into the kitchen for my check. Luckily, I had enough to cover the meal for four in cash, because I was told after eating that they don't take credit cards! I only had this happen once before, in a restaurant in New York,and the friend I was with there knew the owner, so he took my card! Apparently, this "Sorry, the credit card machine is broken" ploy is so all transactions are in cash and taxes can be played with. I find this business maneuver to be a bit shady. There are some very good Asian restaurants around Providence and this is not high on my list of places to support.

As others have said, service is a bit slow, if they are really busy. However, the food is worth the wait. I've spent a lot of time in Vietnam, and their pho is just as good, if not better. If you are the only one there, you can get your food rather quickly. But if you are behind a few large groups, it may take some time. My personal favorite is the pho ga (chicken pho). I know it's not the normal way of eating it, but, it's quite good. The coffee is quite good as well, as is the lemon soda. If you're I've never tried Vietnamese style drinks, give them a try. Pictured is chicken sate and salmon with herbs.

Service is admittedly slow when the place is busy but the pho and claypots are delicious. The spring rolls are so so but the peanut sauce they come with is outstanding. I haven't yet tried the other rice dishes or the bun but I suspect they're delicious. Cash only. I've also had pho elsewhere locally and, so far, it's the best here. I grew up near Westminster in Orange County so had my fair share of pho.

I've rated this restaurant on Yelp, but needed to write another review for Google. Having a regular need in my life for Pho, I needed to find a regular spot to fulfill this need. Hands down, Minh Hai is that spot for me. Having tried all other local favorites, I am confidently able to state this opinion. Owned by a lovely husband and wife, he cooks in the back and she operates the front. His recipe is just amazing. All others are just bland to me now in comparison. You've probably driven by this spot a million times. Stop there today and thank me later!

I tried Minh Hai last night. It's a small Mom and Pop restaurant with authentic Vietnamese food. We are both vegetarians and looked forward to the dinner. I had the BUN DAU HU CHIEN $8.50 (mildly spicy) which is fried tofu served in a bowl with iceberg lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon with lukewarm rice vermicelli mixed with soy sauce. It was good- not great but good with a very home made character. There however were a few glaring problems here. First off- when I go to a restaurant I expect it to be clean. When I arrive the very first thing I noticed was that the floor of the restaurant was dirty. I could not tell if this was due to years of stains never addressed or if they just do not wash the floors. But- it turned me off badly. Second- the tables were all pitted and old. This is another turn off. The table was clean- but when you patronize a restaurant, you do not expect old, pitted and worn out tables. The bathroom was digusting. Pee all over the toilet and NO soap or paper towels. Inexcusable- period. The wife does all the waitressing and serving. She is sweet and very very nice. But- they need at least bare minimum one waitress. As the restaurant got busier- it was clear that the wife could not handle the volume and disappeared for 20 minutes to help her husband prepare the food. A couple behind us waited 15 minutes to just get a menu. A no no. We were served within 15 minutes after ordering because we were the first ones there at 5pm. After we finished we waited 10 minutes and the wife was a no show- preparing the food out back. I had to go to the front of the restaurant and ask for the check. I hate to give a less than great review but I also have to be honest. The food was good- but I would not go back due to the negatives I mentioned. I still gave her 20% because she was so nice. Unfortunately I will not return,

Definitely check out Minh Hai. You'll find some familiar dishes, deliciously done, as well as some dishes you may not have had before. Try the platter of beef marinated in lemon; it's exceptionally good, will feed several people as an appetizer,and is gorgeous to look at. The house special marinated chicken is terrific, too; comes with a black pepper sauce that is out of this world. I could go on and on. This place is also a good choice for vegetarians, who will find many dishes to choose from. I've recommended this spot to probably a dozen friends/family, and they have all become fans.The restaurant is family-run, and in addition to the great food, you can expect a friendly welcome.

Service is rather slow, but there's only one server. I think there's also only one person in the kitchen. I ordered their special pho. The broth is decent, but it's not truly pho as it's missing aroma from one of the key spices. But to the credit of the cook, the broth is good; it's just not pho. The bowl has relatively little meat and no beef tripe, which should be standard for "pho special." I would give this place a 7/10 in comparison to great concentration of good Vietnamese restaurants in place such as Dorchester, MA.

My wife and I recently moved here from a Maryland. We thought we had the best Pho in Maryland but this place takes it to another level. I get the number 8 and my wife the number 9. We also get the shrimp wrap rolls with peanut sauce. It's to die for . Come visit this place. You will not be disappointed.

In the past I gave this place four stars because while the food is excellent the service was always extremely slow. This last time I was there they totall redeemed themselves. Had my Pho in less than ten minutes, and even got water when I arrived. If you haven't tried the pho here, you've got to try it. Absolute best around.

I've had my fair share of pho and this is the closest to homemade pho you can get. The broth is light yet flavorful and even if you think you cannot have anymore, you go right back to drinking more of the broth. The owners are up at 5am just making the broth itself. The service is great and you can tell that they really care about you and the quality of the food they are serving you.

I go here fairly often because of the reasonable prices combined with the delicious food. But only go there if you like your food on the spicy side. Although there are some dishes that aren't too hot, and the menu marks spiciness well. I'm pretty sure you can ask for them to tone it down if you're sensitive about heat. This is a family owned and run business, so they're very accommodating and friendly.
