This is from one of my first times here but figured I’d add it here. It was 10mths ago but I’ve been there since and will again. Sadly I’m much further away now. But: Food was excellent and service was some of the best. I’ll definitely be going back when I can. And the newab special I had was AMAZING!! Nice open, comfortable and roomy place with phenomenal staff. And true British tea!

We love this little Indian restaurant. Staff was friendly, and was able to accommodate us with my husband being diary and gluten free. Prices were reasonable and food was yummy.

I usually don’t write these kinds of reviews, but I had to write this one. My husband and I were on our way to Fairfax, Virginia, after a three-day camping and hiking trip. We decided to stop in Nawab in Roanoke for dinner as we were tired from driving a long way. We ordered mango lassi and biryani. Both were very good, but the issue was with our server. We had to wait a very long time to get his attention after we ordered our food as we wanted to order something else. He did not seem interested in serving us, and I don’t know why. When the food arrived, we had to wait another 10 minutes for our plates to be placed on the table. I understand that he might have been busy serving the big groups, but this is unacceptable. I’m very upset with the service at this restaurant. I’m from the hospitality industry too, and what I just experienced was not warm hospitality at all. Restaurants(servers) should know how to treat their guests equally.

I travel around all the time and I must say that this Indian resturant was unbelievable. Didnt expect anything special but not only had great service but the food was absolutely excellent. The price was very resonable. I have inidan food very often and I can tell you that this was probably the best I have ever had. I will be making a special trip just to use it again....excellent !

Didn’t get a chance to take any photos (was too excited to eat) but had to pause and write a review. Wow. I temporarily moved down here for a job and was really missing my favorite Indian spot up in Maryland. I luckily stumbled upon Nawab and can I just say that I am absolutely blown away. Ordered the saag paneer and lehsooni paneer-subz. 10/10

Excellent service. Very affordable food.

I did a take out here and the food was good but one thing that I’m not satisfied is with the charge of tip. I’ve been to so many restaurants and I have personally worked in a restaurant myself too so I know exactly what I’m talking about, I don’t see the reason why would they include a tips without my wish of tipping them. I wouldn’t mind tipping anyone for their work but I did a takeout and if I were to dine in i would’ve understand why they charge but for takeout, no I don’t agree with that!!

This was my first visit and I visited twice same day. It was okay experience vegetarian food was not so tempting which I ordered.

The food is delicious and they were extremely attentive. We always had full glasses. Their recommendations for meals were spot on and their spice levels are accurate and good for any preference. Jason is a wonderful manager!!

The manager of this place is a mealy spineless little 100 pound man who is scamming people because of the parking lot he owns around the corner which isn’t labeled. Do NOT park where it says “parking for center in the square” or he will have you towed at your own expense. He’s ignorant and truly disappointing for being one of the only restaurants of color in the area. Being an out of towner in a place where I expected to find comraderie in another place I was ashamed to see someone running a business like this. Do not eat here. Or park here.

We enjoy Indian cuisine so we were looking forward to trying Nawab. Our server, Jason, was very attentive and very helpful with his recommendations. We split an order of Kachumber which is a cucumber and tomato salad which was delicious. We also split Lehsooni Paneer, which also was excellent, accompanied by Garlic Naan. The manager checked on us a couple of times as did others. We had a delightful experience.

Friendly, attentive service and delicious food! Lunch prices were quite reasonable. My husband said the samosa was the best he has ever had in his life and would go back just for the onion kulcha.

Curries tasted very similar. Less authentic than expected. If you are new to Indian food, a good place to start, as the food spice level can be varied according to your taste preference.

Order the chicken kozambhu! It is mind numbingly delicious, I have always always had great experiences take out or dine in. The service is immaculate and the wait is never long.

My wife and I order take out from here about twice a month and have been doing so for years. We've never been disappointed with their food and they are consistent with their recipes. I recommend Saagwala, Tikka masala, biriyani, and lamb angaar.

Hit and miss: the food tastes good, but portions are very small for the price. Very disorganized. 50% of the time they can’t find our order. Tonight it took 1hr30 mins for an order that was supposed to be ready in 20, after an hour of waiting asked for proof from emails that we ordered etc etc. not apologetic for delays.

This place came recommended to my colleagues and myself as a great place to stop for lunch on a business trip. So glad we stopped! The food was delicious, portions generous and service was pleasant and efficient.

The takeout system needs to be better. You order online and it tells you that it’ll be 20 minutes. I show up 30 minutes after ordering and my food is still not ready. This has happened a few times as well. I wish the system either gave a more accurate time or that you’d get a message when your order is ready. It’s a waste of time to be give a time that’s incorrect. My food wasn’t ready until a full 40 minutes after it was ordered, which is 20 minutes past the time I was told it’d be ready. With the parking situation downtown, I think takeout should be a bigger priority since free parking is hard to find and the takeout parking in front of the restaurant is 15 minutes only. If I had ordered at a restaurant for table service, I’d never have to wait this long. I had only ordered 1 tikka masala btw. So it wasn’t a big order that should have taken this long. When it comes to the food it’s decent. The chicken is often a bit overcooked but apart from that the rest is decent.

I've always loved this restaurant and its employees. Day or night it's a great environment. Also, the manager is very friendly and knowledgeable about their foods and when presented with a new pallet he knew just what to order for my newbie friend.

I spoke to the owner and he was such a nice man. I also loved the food that I bought for my son. He said it was delicious. It smelt great the tikka masala salmon with rice was absolutely amazing. I will be back thank you very much.

I took a Veg Briyaani and it was just like a Veg pulaav, Seema like they donot know what’s the difference between Biryaani and Pulaav. Will Never recommend this to anyone.

Been here twice. The first time last week, we were so impressed with the food and service that we came back the following week to try more on the menu. Our server gave fabulous recommendations. The other waitstaff were attentivel, too - our waters were always filled, done plates were removed right away. The food we've tried so far has been delicious like the tikka masala, saag, and korma. We loved the naan and roti bread basket. We'll definitely be back to try more.

the food here was your average indian food with some flavor but not as flavorful as i would like. i would like the food to be more tasty but unfortunately the food isn't that great. the service was wonderful and everyone was super nice.

First time trying a Indian restaurant, I got the chicken vindaloo, they warned me it was going to be very spicy but I love spicy, I love how the heat didn’t take away from the flavors. My husband also got the chicken tikka masala it was delicious as well, and the garlic naan was PERFECT!! The staff was very kind. I can’t wait to come back!!

The service was good and so was the environment. However, the food was not the best in my opinion, it was almost a little sweet which was not to my liking.

My girlfriend and I first visited Nawab 3 years when we started dating and took our first road-trip, just happened upon the place as we needed to stop off for dinner. We were blown away to say the least. Every Indian restaurant we have been to since, we have compared to Nawab and for the last 3 years it has held the title of “best Indian food we’ve ever had”. Which is impressive since we regularly have Indian food both dine-in and takeout from across the country in large cities as we travel a ton. So of course on our way through we had to stop and see if the reputation still held. We took our first bites and just simply, WOW. The Saag Paneer especially is just unreal! From the food alone, Nawab is still hands down the best Indian food I’ve ever had, and to top it off, the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful and the staff is so incredibly friendly. My only issue is that it’s not closer to where we live!

roanoke is very limited for Indian cuisine so this is a good place, however, I've lived in foreign countries so am used to getting more food for lower prices at the Indian restaurants I frequent. well that's the usa for you. honestly I've never really had a bad experience w Indian food so this is on par with that. very attentive service, I think they refilled my water like 6 times lol..

Nice to see that the interior shabbiness is gone; the re-do looks clean and modern. However, with all of the hard surfaces, it is quite noisy. During dinner, the four of us could hardly hear each other. We thought the food remained tasty. However, we did note the prices in the restaurant are higher than those posted on their website.

Food taste great, that I didn’t get today. Because- make sure you order before 15 minutes their posted hours for closure. They close their kitchen Early. Did pay parking- out $8 😞

This is one of our most favorite restaurants in the Roanoke Valley! The food is always exceptional and the servers are helpful, friendly, and attentive. We can’t say enough good things about this place - we go every chance we get!!!

OMG … one star bcoz of waiters otherwise food is nearly distasteful. Preparation time was ok. I ordered BBQ mix platter and i could barely finish. Rest of the items were looking quite the same though never had courage to try after failed first order. Never ever going there again.

The food is amazing. Most of the dishes are full of flavor. Lehsooni Paneer Subz is awesome. Dal Makhni is mediocre. They are missing Butter Chicken though - wish they can add that menu item.

Ate here for a stop in Roanoke. Despite arriving near the closing time, the place accepted us and served us the genuinely best indian food of our lives. Portion sizes are huge and coming from NYC the place is a steal. Was very happy coming here.

My absolute FAVORITE restaurant in all of Roanoke. The food is incredible and the portions are big. My go-to was the Punjabi chicken tikka. The cocktails are unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before. My personal favorite was the Stylish Chamia. Don’t even get me started on the delicious, fluffy garlic naan🤤 The manager was very friendly and would always stop by our table to check in. No other Indian restaurant will ever compare to Nawab for me. Do yourself and your tastebuds a favor and try this place out.

The food was good. I loved the Garlic Naan and Masala saucenwith the rice. Very, very good. I had the Pubjabi Chicken Tikka and it was good. The chicken/plate didn't come out as hot as everything else did, unfortunately, which is really my only complaint about the food. The service was very good. All staff were very kind and helpful. They walked around to refill drinks frequently and make sure everyone was alright. The room itself is very, very gorgeous and has a big window you can look out and see the street. My main complaint about the room is it echoes a lot and it can become very loud very quickly.

I love this place, I honestly eat from here at least once a week but more likely twice a week. I am a huge fan of Indian Cuisine and Nawab is my personal favorite in Roanoke. My recommendation for dishes is Kozhambu, Ananas-Kaju-Malai, Vindaloo, and of course everybody loves Tikka Masala. They have a range for spice for everybody from no spice at all to what the He*l are you trying to do to me here. They serve in LARGE bowls almost family style honestly. If you order for 2 people you can most certainly share the 2 dishes and eat more. The garlic naan is very fluffy and has plenty of flavor. I’m not opposed to more garlic maybe an option for more or less garlic would be nice to have. With naan being made in a Tandoor it will vary every time and be slightly different but still good. I have to mention the staff, the staff is amazing they are always waiting to assist and make your experience the best. I don’t recall my glass ever being empty. They are very friendly and polite, will help with the menu if you have questions. And explain the dishes and what is in them. Even the boss comes to tables and checks up to make sure his product and team is the best.

I usually really like this place but I have no been in a while and I wanted to eat here before I left for college. This experience was not a good one. Me and my family got seated immediately but waited around 10 min for anyone to come to our table. We then proceeded to order our food and waited for an hour for it to arrive. When the food did arrive it was very good, as always the service was just lacking.

We were walking around the downtown area in Roanoke and saw this restaurant. We love Indian food and don't have anywhere where we can get it where we live (Hilton Head Island) so we went in and had the Baingan Bahar (13.95)which was eggplant, onions, bell peppers with a wonderful sauce and rice. My partner had Achari Lamb Tikka (17.95) and garlic naan (3.50). Everything was yummy and the service was wonderful. Would return if ever back in the area.

I door-dashed the food from Nawab last night. I ordered Garlic Naan and Paneer Makhni. Unfortunately, the morning after having the meal, I woke up feeling extremely unwell. I experienced severe diarrhea and stomach discomfort. Something was amiss with the food I consumed.

We had Chutney fish and the Lamb and mushroom coconut curry. Both were fantastic and we can't wait to come back again.

We placed an order for dal makhni, aloo gobhi, and tarkari bhajiya (vegetable fritters). I had high expectations for the meal, but unfortunately, the only thing we enjoyed was the fritters. The dal makhni lacked kidney beans and lacked any authentic Punjabi flavor. It seemed like the chef omitted the cream, which is essential for its rich taste. The aloo gobhi was undercooked and also lacked flavor. It appeared that no Indian spices were used in preparing these dishes. The tandoori roti was chewy, suggesting it was made with all-purpose flour instead of whole wheat flour. We couldn't finish anything except for the vegetable fritters, which were excellent. Considering the taste, everything was overpriced.

So delicious!! Perfect balance of spice and flavor! 10/10

We went for dinner yesterday, our waiter was nice. But the amount of attitude that new manger has is ridiculous!

We stopped in for a quick bite but found amazing. The service was great very friendly attentive and informative about each dish. Later we learned that the manager was our server. A pleasant surprise. My dish was asked spicy 5 out of 5 and it was spicy. Amazingly so it had heat but SO SO much flavor. The heat didn't destroy the mix of flavors and deliciousness. My wifes dish was perfectly seasoned and the meat flavorful and tender. The vegetables were also well seasoned and cooked yet had a light crunch to them. The garlic Nan was a perfect blend to our dishes. Desert was also a delight took the heat from my prior dish away and the sliced almonds in the dish gave it a great light crunch. This quick bite has turned into one of our favorite places to be. Thank you Nawab we WILL be back.

Although the taste was good and the service was nice, both my gf and I had diarrhea after eating here. I even had severe stomach pain and vomiting throughout the night. Think about this before you go.

Had to wait to be seated. It wasn't that busy. Employee and manager were there at the entrance, but made no effort to greet or seat us. A third employee finally arrived to seat us about five minutes later. We were seated and a employee brought water. Fifteen minutes past before the waiter came to our table. No personality! We ordered and he never returned to our table. We could see him going to other tables. We could see the manager talking to other guest. The manager never came to our table. After a half hour of sitting with two glasses of water, watching everyone else getting served and eating we got up to leave. We approached the manager and informed him we were leaving and why. We'll never be back and we will spread the word. It's a shame, for it use to be a great place to eat. Spent amidst an hour and we got a glass of water. Oh yes, it was my pick for a Father's Day dinner.

In a befitting location near City Market, a very walkable area with shops and good restaurants, Nowab serves high-quality, flavorful Indian food. Service is cordial and attentive. Nowab proved to be a great choice for dinner on my one evening in Roanoke.
