Really nice food. Shared the veggie combination and meat combination on one huge platter. In particular, the yellow kik alicha and the zebhi dorho chicken drumstick were my favorites, though none of the other things missed. Service is good and prices are reasonable. Can’t wait to return to probably order the same thing.

This place is DELICIOUS! Do not walk, RUN to here for dinner. I came here with my boyfriend and got the vegetable platter and the meat platter to share and they did not disappoint! The beef option and the lentils were so so flavorful. I enjoyed this authentic restaurant and getting to eat the main dishes with the injera. We’ve been looking for delicious Ethiopian food for years and are so glad we found this place. We will definitely be back!

A decent spot with good ambience to explore some aspects of African cuisine. The overall experience is average. Opting for the platter is a good idea, as it offers a variety of dishes and good value for money. However, service could be improved, particularly with regard to cleanliness of cutleries and serving dishes.

I have never had Ethiopian food before and this was definitely the perfect place for my first time. This was some of the most incredible, delicious food I have ever had in my life. The service was excellent, too. The people were very friendly and toed the line of attentive but not overly so very well. The restaurant itself is very unassuming from the outside but sooooo cute on the inside. My partner and I are pescatarians and the menu was clearly labeled, which made it easier for us to figure what did and didn't have meat in it. 100000/10 would definitely recommend!

Extremely delicious cuisine! Perfectly spiced and bursting with flavor in every bite! They have a full bar also. The injera soaks all the yummy juices up and makes for a unique dining experience. Wonderful staff and excellent service. The vibes are very romantic inside with wooden decorations and red stained glass lamps. Highly recommend if you aren't afraid of spices!

I enjoyed the kitfo, which was far milder and less salty than I am used to, but comforting for me. I'd call it homey; the kind if thing I could see myself eating regularly for a long time. I liked the gluten free injera, which was lighter than I am used to and less sour, but had a decent consistency. Collards were nice. Service was struggling to keep up. There was a large party. I came alone, and sat at the bar, and that was alright. They were apologetic, which I didn't need. That's to say, it wad not a perfect experience, but I liked it.

Updated Review: I used to frequent New Eritrea when I lived on the west side of the city. I moved to the east side, and then the pandemic happened. My friend and former roommate decided it was time to go back. And the food is just as good as we remembered it! I got the yellow split peas and I ate everything on my plate. The split peas had a savory, earthy flavor and it paired well with the sweetness of the cooked carrots. And then there's the delicious sourness of the injera bread that ties it all together. We also ordered the mixed veggie sambusas, which were also delicious. They were crispy and full of veggies. The sauce it came with gave it some heat. And I had to order the honey wine. It wasn't overly sweet and was definitely needed to wind down a long work week. Service was great as usual. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. They haven't changed the decor, and I like that. It's still a mom-and-pop shop and the focus is serving excellent food. My friend and I got there before the dinner rush, and I could see that phone/online orders were coming in. So I'm happy that they're still doing well after the pandemic. If you've never tried Eritrean food, then I highly recommend you dine here first. You can order your own entree or get a bigger plate to share with friends/family. And you eat with your hands btw, which makes the dining experience much more fun. —————————————————————————- Once in awhile, my roomies and I get a craving for Ethiopian food. And when we do, we go to New Eritrea. If you've never tried Ethiopian/Eritrean food, you should try this place. You won't be disappointed.

Had a birthday celebration here with family from out of town. Our group of 7 was served wonderfully. The food was delicious, easy to share among the group. The wine was perfect. The price was reasonable. It turned out to be Super Bowl Sunday and the game was on but did not overwhelm the atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I ordered several items for take out to eat over the next couple days. Honestly I only thought the sambusa stood out. They put tons of bread in the to-go containers on top and under the food for all of the six items - even when I picked it up the bread had soaked up most of the sauce portions of the meal and by the next day there was almost no sauce left. Please put your bread in a separate container!!

This is one of my favorite Ethiopian food stops, besides Tadu (much more expansive menu at Tadu with fit fit and other breakfast items along with tibs). I usually get the veggie platter that lasts me for 2 meals. Tip: Ask for their excellent hot sauce. It's not necessarily spicy but super flavorful and pairs well with injera and the veggies or meat. The staff is friendly and always has a smile on their face. They get the order ready within 15 minutes and the food rarely disappoints. If you are craving a no drama, fast pickup, flavorful Ethiopian meal, New Eritrea is a single location gem and family run business that deserves support. Fantastic service, the staff were very kind and super nice. Food: excellent sambusa and the spicy red sauce that came with it I got the vegetarian combo but was a little underwhelmed by the the taste of the sides. The shiro didn't have much flavor and none of the others really stood out. My wife got the chicken and mushroom and thought it was good. While I've eaten enough Ethiopian in the bay area not sure if I'm the best judge of what's good shiro Vs bad but I'd say I've had better at other places. Injera was good. The taste was super mild and didn't have the spices I was accustomed to from the other places. That being said I'd still go back there to get my fill.
