I've always loved dining at Nobu and have consistently had great experiences whenever I visit. Nobu holds a special place in my heart—it's where my family would gather for memorable meals as I was growing up, and I vividly remember my first Nobu experience in London. During my college years and even now, the Malibu location became a favorite spot, whether I was going with my parents when they visited or enjoying weekends there with friends. The food has always been top-notch, and the atmosphere has always matched the quality. Unfortunately, my experience today was deeply disappointing, all because of the behavior of one waiter. For context, I ordered shishito peppers, which always come with a small bowl for discarding the stems. However, when the bowl first arrived, it was noticeably dirty, so we politely asked the waiter for a clean one. While I understand the bowl is just for discarding stems, I still expect it to be clean—I’m not dining at a taco stand. Instead of simply replacing the bowl, the waiter defended the dirty dish, saying, "Oh, it's just for throwing out the stems; you should be fine." I was surprised by this response, but I chose not to make a fuss as I was dining with my parents. We also ordered the rock shrimp, which unfortunately came out a bit soggy. We didn’t initially complain, but when the waiter asked how our meal was, I mentioned that the shrimp wasn't as crispy as usual. I wasn’t expecting a replacement or any special treatment; I was just providing feedback since he asked. Instead of acknowledging my comment, the waiter defensively said, “It’s probably just the sauce—it might’ve sat too long—and I've been working at Nobu for eight years, so I know that's the standard." I found his response both dismissive and unnecessary. I was merely pointing out a difference from my usual experience at Nobu, not criticizing him. What’s more troubling is that he followed up by saying, “Oh, I’ve seen you before,” which left me feeling targeted. Was this attitude because he recognized me? It’s disappointing to think that a place I’ve cherished for years could be marred by such a negative interaction. Don’t think I’ll be coming back ever again.

Such a fun place, these memories will last forever! Food and cocktails were delicious and perfect.

Everything was perfect except the host! She looked like she hated her job and she definitely left her smile at home. Don’t know what she been through but she needs new training ASAP. Was there today 8/27/24 whoever she is.

The food, the service, and the atmosphere are all exceptional. This place is well oiled, and the food is creative, precise, and made with care. We dont miss a chance to stop here when we are in Malibu, and you shouldn't either! Also, the craft drinks are also not to be missed. Cheers!

We had a fantastic dinner at Nobu Malibu. The service was great, as expected. The drinks we tried including the Sidecar and old fashioned were well balanced. But what stands out is the food here. We wanted to try the Omakase but decided to stick to ordering from the a la carte menu, which is divided into cold and hot plates. The tuna sushi and yellow tail sashimi we got was unbelievably delicious. The Chefs here obviously know their cuts and quality really really well which made our dining experience here memorable. Overall, the vibe here is high energy, with sweeping ocean views. Highly recommend coming here for lunch if you're a last minute reservation or a walk in. Seeing all the Lamborghinis/Ferrari's you get a sense of the popularity of Nobu amongst the wealthy and famous.

This place is an experience and not just a restaurant. Reservations: Try and get reservations in advance, you can request for outdoor seating but it is not guaranteed. We were able to get ourselves a table via concierge. Food: high recommend the yellowtail ceviche, crispy okra, spice edamame, wagyu tacos, black cod with miso, eggplant with miso. They have an amazing selection of cocktails, wine and sakes. I asked the server to sake with my meals and they were amazing.

Beautiful location on the Pacific Ocean. Too bad about the organization of the place, impossible to book and if you can, don't think you'll be fine... High quality food to review, I've been to several Nobu in the world and this is definitely the worst. Very high prices, pushy waiter looking for tips!

We called in 20 days ahead for our reservation for my birthday , for the patio by the sea when we arrived from a long trip the manager JP said that he cant have us seated at the patio because its full even though we made a reservation for the patio by the sea , most of the tables in the patio was free , he said the only table he could over was inside , whats the point for a 20 days ahead reservation when you cant even fulfill my request. Would not recommend!

Surpassed the hype! Outstanding food in the most gorgeous setting. The food is super expensive but this is worth it for a special occasion.

We were given a really bad feeling for „only“ tipping 20 Dollars on our order. Forcing customers to tip, even just by giving them a bad feeling if they tip nothing or tip less than 20% needs to stop. Either leave the tip amount 100% to the customer or expect no tips at all.

Super busy on Sundays… reservations can be delayed and service could be not as it should be. Find a booking by itself is a challenge. However, sunset time here is not to miss.

If it wasn't for the pathetic servers who have the audacity to asked there customers if this is all your ordering, I wouldn't give such a poor rating. Aside from the fact food which is pint size and is so overpriced.I understand it's for the view and the name but shame on your staff.

Though it is filled with nouveau filth, it is surprisingly accommodable for the refined with exemplary service and cuisine. If you can disregard all the unrefined undesirables in the restaurant, it’s quite a fine place to spend the evening.

An extraordinary experience. Incredibly friendly staff & the most delicious food. We prefer appetizers over mains but overall the whole menu is beyond delicious! The beach view is a bonus of course.

Don’t get me wrong, the food was great, but everyone puts this place on a pedestal. I’ve had better sushi in LA. Heck, I’ve even had better sushi in the Midwest. The ambience and surroundings are world class, but the food should always be the star, and I don’t think it was here.

Best sushi I’ve ever had! I definitely recommend the house special sushi rolls! The wagyu tacos are amazing and melt in your mouth, I recommend ordering a few because they are on the smaller side but completely worth it.

It was nearly impossible to make a reservation, so I ended up showing up to see if I could get a walk-in spot. Despite many empty tables, I had to wait over an hour for a table. I was eventually seated at the chef's counter, which wasn’t ideal and negatively impacted the experience. While the food was consistent and high-quality, it came out very slowly—I waited over 45 minutes for hot dishes, even though the restaurant wasn't at full capacity. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. Instead, I would suggest trying Zuma, which seemed to have a better vibe. Don't get sucked into the hype about this establishment.

Never got offered any water until I asked my self. Everything else perfect.

One of the better Nobu locations i’ve been to! I called ahead to let them know that i would be around half an hour late due to traffic and they were very understanding and held my table for me. I had the omakase which was good and extremely filling and finished off with a coconut sorbet for desert whilst looking out at the amazing view!

Its for nice view . My plate had long hair on the food unfortunately the restaurant had good view i liked that But one thing was bother me I think the workers speak welcome. In Japanese They all speak it very wrong pronouncement it ,If they fixed it it will be look more professional Japanese restaurant

I was so disappointed with Nobu Malibu tonight that I wanted to share my experience. I was enjoying a work dinner, the food was amazing as well as the service when the whole experience was made extremely uncomfortable by an over zealous security guard who interrupted our dinner with our boss and colleagues. My boss, who I should mention is famous in some circles, asked that I take photos of him and our colleagues but when I started to I was interrupted by a Nobu security guard. I guess he thought that as an Asian woman I was a crazy fan or paparazzi???? I told him we work together, but he obviously didn’t believe me and asked my boss if he was he “alright”, and was I “assaulting” him. To which my boss assure the guard that I was a member of our team and that he wanted the pictures taken. Later other people came to talk to our boss and didn’t get warned or interrupted by the guard. After this first incident the same security guard continued to stare at me making me even more uncomfortable, so much so that I could neither enjoy the food nor take a photo with coworkers without feeling subconscious. All this in an environment where many other guests were taking photos without being questioned. After the initial incident I tried to take a video of the ocean from the area of the restaurant that faces the ocean. I took 2 videos in total, one 19 seconds, an one 7 seconds, for a total of less than 30 seconds of filming total. While taking the last video the same guard approached me and said “you can’t stand there, you will block view…” While I understand the sentiment and was being respectful of the other guests by keeping my time at a minimum there were a number of guests who were also taking videos and photos none of which were reprimanded or approached by the guard. The whole experience made me so sad, the good food and service all brought down by a bad atmosphere created by the guard …and it was clear that I was being treated differently than the other guests. This treatment felt more like a result of being an Asian with a camera than an attempt to limit photographers as all around me there were people photographing without being harassed by security. Nobu, I understand the desire to limit photography but If you are that cautious please treat ALL your customers equally and not single out guests for no reason. I have been to a number of Nobu restaurants around the world and have never been treated in this manner, I am very disappointed. I wanted to share the videos I shot just to demonstrate that I was standing in front of the ocean view for a combined 26 seconds of time.

The reputation of this restaurant is well established, it's very good and the produce is really fresh.I recommend it if you like fresh fish

We had dinner there. We had a sushi plate wich was nice and tasty. In my opinion you pay alot for the brand as usual. What was really akward, that every new guests were greeted by the whole crew by shouting out loud. It was really disturbing the conversation and couldnt be more far away from the japanse culture.

I went here for the experience. I heard it was pretty good, but the experience on the beach was nice. For a place that is as popular as this it is very underrated. The food what AMAZING! The Service was beyond my high expectations and the view was great. I will go back very soon or as soon as I can get a reservation.

Good was good and service was good. However, the woman at the door was rude and i had a booked a month in advance, and they gave us a table facing the wall. There were many empty tables with great views. Also, the food was not spaced out. We got all the food at once and then nothing at all for almost 45 minutes. Not worth the hype.

Alexa, one of Nobu's hosts, is poised, professional, and extremely friendly. She makes all patrons feel welcomed. 7/11/24 This will serve as my amended review. It can be challenging trying to navigate Nobu's reservation que. Fortunately, Alexandra, in Nobu's home office, was able to secure patio seating for my party. After the tourist season has faded, it then becomes easier to place a reservation. So PATIENCE needs to be practiced! This establishment is well worth the wait.

I went here and it was a beautiful dinner complete with my favorite sushi and fresh seafood. The views were absolutely amazing and it was a bit crowded, but that is always expected. I love coming here because it is particularly beautiful all year round, but especially when you want to celebrate a special occasion.

OMG, food was delicious, and I don't do sushi/seafood. I had the Asian-infused filet. Melted in my mouth. Also, had a side of roasted tricolored cauliflower, not only gorgeous but delish.

Everything was incredible, the food was amazing, everything went well except the service, the service is kinda slow, and I was taking a picture of the view and one of the waiter came up to me and told me that I can’t take a picture. Like it’s don’t make any sense, I pay so much to be here and I can’t even take the pictures of the view??, like I see other people taking pictures of the views of the ocean and the food but they don’t say anything to them, idk if this is some kind of racial act. Anyway the food was amazing.

Very overpriced for the quality (and quantity) of food. May have been exciting and creative in its heyday, but you come here mainly for the beach views and the seen and be seen vibes. Mediocre and overpriced are the best words to describe the food

It's not the best sushi I have had, nor is it the worst. The monk fish tartar and the crab tempura are standouts as is the green tea. The staff, interior, and the view are the reason to go. All three are fantastic. I would go back.

The food was delicious. Even though it was a bit pricey totally worth it. Service was great and staff were so kind. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The hostess was horrible and very rude. She almost said to my face fu.. off. I just wanted to book a table. Please let her go to the university or at least school to learn how to communicate with the people. Unbelievable. I am speechless …

10/10. 11/10 for Cardell and service team. We spent the day at Getty Villa Museum and gardens and wanted to eat locally with our out of town guests. Been meaning to try Nobu, so off we went. I find it super convenient to have valet parking, makes us feel secure in the spot. Now, I don’t recommend you wing it on rush days but we rolled the dice and went without a reservation. Party of 5, we were sat in less than 10 mins. For a moment it took a bit for our server to arrive, but it from the moment we met him we trusted he had our tastebuds and experience in mind. He mentioned he’d been at the restaurant 8 years, and took into account if anyone had allergies or special food needs. Since we’re gravy we let him fly free. And OMG. What ensued was 9 courses of HEAVEN followed by an array of 4 desserts. Hot tea, and water were our beverages of choice to not compete for space and let me tell you. Course after course we were excited and delighted. Will be back with my husband, family, and anyone wanting a beautiful culinary experience by the sea. It’s really a team at Nobu Malibu as everyone helps serve and provide care throughout the meal, but if you can be sat in Cardells section, request him, and trust him, you won’t regret it.

Just got off a rough run of restaurants at Yosemite and showed up in Malibu grumpy. This place really brought back my faith in spending money on good management and chefs. They don't care if you are a movie star or just some family looking for something special. They make you at home and the food is absolutely exceptional.

Wonderful experience of a luxurious japanese / seafood restaurant. Tables in front of the sea with gorgeous landscape from anypoint of the space. The good is simoly incredible and service is perfect. The price is fair for the sofistication level. But above average of a regular restaurant. Good choice for special ocasions or celebrations.

Food and lychee Martinis were a 10/10. The view is spectacular! I had the Tiradito and lobster ceviche. So exquisite 🤌🏼

you are paying for the ambience food is good and presented nicely but in terms of taste, not much better than your neighborhood Japanese spot.

Although this will not have in impact for their business I need give my opinion.We were at the sushi bar ( 2 people) About 45 minutes in. The rude girl from From the front desk came and said” you need to wrap it up because we have a long waiting list” . This happened at 3:00 pm. Saturday.

Absolutely stellar experience with the valet service at Mastro’s! From the moment we arrived, True, the valet attendant, made us feel incredibly welcomed. He promptly offered us water, checked the wait time, and even provided us with the best times to visit the location. His professionalism and warm demeanor were truly impeccable. A perfect 10 out of 10 for his exceptional service. Thanks to True, we will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

I had heard and read extraordinarily good things about Nobu, Malibu. The food, service and atmosphere definitely live up to the hype. It’s important to note that reservations are extremely hard to obtain. I tried to book a lunch reservation thirty days in advance (the earliest one can book a reservation) and was told that all reservations were already booked. Your best bet is to walk in and see if a table is available. I almost secured a table but was told another party had just received it. I decided to sit at the bar and was fine with this as the bar still offers amazing views of the Pacific Ocean.

I’m never coming here again. This place is just like its owner, Robert De Niro: money-grabbing, not caring, and serving very bad food. Oh, and their tasting menu is horrible. The only thing they have on their side is the view and the breath of the ocean.

We hosted a private event. Everything was great and we enjoyed the service and the food. Great view and a really good price for a private event. We had a slight situation at the end which kind of “left a bad taste in our mouth” with one of our servers, which wasn’t great.

We’ve been going to Nobu since the very first location opened in Manhattan 30 years ago. We’ve been to Nobu Malibu at least 10 times. When I reserved 30 days in advance, I informed the reservationist that we would be celebrating a birthday, graduation, and Mother’s Day and would like an outdoor table. She said that she would try. When we arrived at 2:30pm, there were 4-5 outdoor tables empty for 5-6 people. The hostess told me “you are sitting inside” and was extremely rude. Upon asking her about the empty tables, she informed me that they were for VIPs and the owners’ friends. One of the women seated at one of the outdoor tables happened to be in the ladies room at the same time as me; when I asked her about the table, told me that she was a tourist and was just seated there without even asking. Things went from bad to worse. Tables that were seated after us, were served before us. It took hours for our meal. Our server was out to lunch. Net/net, the experience ruined our celebration and everyone left in a bad mood despite the great food. Yes, Nobu is a destination and does great business. However, with this level of service, it will go downhill. It will no longer be my restaurant of choice. Extremely disappointing!

Whether it be for a leisurely brunch, a mesmerizing sunset, delectable cuisine that transcends the ordinary, or simply to partake in the art of people-watching, this destination draws visitors from near and far. While some may dismiss Nobu Malibu as overpriced and overhyped, I beg to differ. In my humble opinion, it stands as a beacon of ambiance and culinary excellence not just in Los Angeles, but perhaps across the entire United States. The sushi and fish I indulged in here were truly a culinary masterpiece, surpassing any other sushi experience I've had in quite some time. There is not a negative thing to say about this place. The food service and atmosphere are perfect for what it is. It’s also really reasonably priced.

I think it’s all about location location location here. All the occasions I’ve been there’s always a mistake with my order. It’s not the best sushi , but definitely the best views.

Favorites from the menu======= ARTICHOKE SALAD: bold citrus flavor, our favorite item we tried NEW STYLE SASHIMI: got the salmon, extraordinarily fresh, delicious HAZELNUT COOKIE dessert: 6 mini ice-cream sandwiches, strong caramel flavor, melts fast KUROZATO dessert: 3 exquisite vanilla puff pastries Things we tried but were meh======= CRISPY RICE WITH SPICY TUNA: standard, bite sized, Shibuya does it better TAI SWEET SHISO WITH CRISPY SHIITAKE: this is a sashimi dish with red snapper; it is a bit more "herby" than than the new-style sashimi; pretty good SEARED TORO WITH TRUFFLE TERIYAKI (2 PC MIN): standard, I like the seared toro at Kushiyu and Shibuya better BLACK COD WITH MISO: legit tastes like fish sticks, but melts in your mouth KING CRAB TEMPURA AMAZU: we subbed cod, and it again tasted like fish sticks CRISPY OKRA WITH GARLIC PONZU: garlic flavor was weak, overall pretty standard YELLOWTAIL JALAPENO cut roll: nothing special, the sashimi version probably would have been better; the cut rolls here remind me of sugarfish Ooo Mami cocktail: okay, but not that tasty Other thoughts======= The ambiance is stellar. Staff needs training on hospitality and better setup for “paying customers” vs Instagram guests just there for a photo op. I walked in on a Tuesday at 4pm and was treated cold by hostess with RBF, several bartenders behind the bar yet I had to make eye contact to get waited on. Walked out to the patio to find it difficult to sit and enjoy a cocktail as I did not want to interrupt all the non professional photo shoots. A kind couple and I chatted and was loosely invited to sit with them at their reserved patio table. The waiter then approached and asked me if I asked the couple to sit at the same patio table, I replied yes and was told “you can’t do that and you’ll need to leave, it’s our policy”. There was a more tactful way of handling that situation. The man at the table tried to keep the invite open by offering to order me food but the waiter insisted I leave. This made the 3 of us uncomfortable. meanwhile I was drinking my $25 cocktail and keeping to myself. I then had to dance around the guests who were there for pure photo opportunities and trust me I saw them come from off the property to take pictures. I enjoyed my tiki cocktail…which btw the titles of their drinks are stupid; just call the drink a Mai Thai. I understand there’s hype to this place but nah, I’ll take my money elsewhere in the future. Ya’ll not all that!! The view is breathtaking for sure but there are plenty of other establishments along PCH in Malibu.

The food was great and the service is friendly!

We were waiting more 1,5 hours and after they offer us to sit on the street. We ask the fire equipment but it was broken. We ask waiter to ask the administrator to help us. She is only smiling and told we don’t have any place. The table in the bar was dirty. It is the worst Nobu in the world. And inside was empty place one hour

I'm passionate about restaurants and wanted to visit Nobu. I'm not from the United States, I was in Los Angeles and traveled more than 1 hour to get to the place. There's no denying that the place is simply wonderful. In terms of atmosphere, one of the most beautiful I've ever been to. But the service is the worst I've ever seen. I've never been through so much trouble. Starting with the Valet at the entrance. There was a man who was the most despicable person I had the displeasure of meeting. They were all rude, rude and rude. I was tired just at the entrance, and when I went in to eat, the arrogant girl said that there was no way to add another name to the waiting list. I was inside the restaurant, and there was simply no way I could wait in line. It was a mess. You could see that many people were lost. In other words, I traveled more than 1 hour and had to come back all over again. A despicable place where I was mistreated for NOTHING. I will never go again

Everything was incredible here! Reservations open one month in advance and actually got lucky and got a sunset reservation which was perfect!! Space is beautiful and well worth spending your time here! As for food, I only tried their vegetarian menu and they do have plenty of options actually but nothing to rave about. However I would go back again for the vibe and views 🥰

The best sushi restaurant! Great culinary delicacies with unique recipes. We enjoyed a private area at the back for the evening, complete with an outside patio overlooking the ocean. Overall, it was a 7-star experience!

The food, the views, the vibes were all amazing (of course) but what stood out for us was the service. Our server Kardell was absolutely fabulous - he was on point with his suggestions and curated an entire 9-courses for us. Kardell was also friendly, warm and very attentive even though he was very busy as the restaurant was packed. Love our dinner experience here!

The best spot for drinks in Malibu! I went there for a business dinner and had the entire terrace to ourselves, I’m sure you can book it if you go with a large group!

Beachside restaurant with great food and impeccable service, and the ambience can't be beat. You must try their "KUROZATO" dessert, so delicious. Only down point is that for vegetarians there are only 2 Sushi options which has average taste. In terms of reservations, it's hard to get but sometimes they do accept walk-ins.

Wow wow wow! Where to start? I came to celebrate my friend's birthday and immediately we all fell in love with it. Unfortunately we hit traffic on our way to the restaurant and I frantically called the restaurant we will be 30 minutes late to the reservation. Fortunately, they were understanding and kept our reservation. I am forever grateful for their kindness. The food was bomb and there's plenty of places to take pictures. My fave food was miso soup, crunchy rolls and taco. I will definitely come back in the future.

Speechless!! From the delicious menu with options for every palate to the well-curated cocktails, it exceeded my massive expectations. But the service—oh, the service! Despite our reservation hiccup, they welcomed us as walk-ins and crafted a surprise 8-course menu based on our preferences. Each dish was a delightful revelation, and the waiter sought feedback after every course. We felt like VIP guests. And the immaculate waterfront atmosphere, complete with a beautiful sunset, made it unforgettable. Plus, they allow dogs—adding to the lively conversations. 🍣🌅🐾

My experience at Nobu was okay, besides the atmosphere there is not much else that I can say.

The food honestly takes a backseat to those views. Nobu is nobu the foods the same at all location. But this views can and will make a grown man cry.

The Best Lunch By The Sea Need to Try Asap

Had a lovely experience here, the view was amazing, as well as the service from Dakota. Loved the tuna rice balls, the lychee martini, and had a delicious wagyu. Definitely try the Malibu breeze cocktail. We also got to see Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

Honestly, really bad atmosphere first thing valet guys Second people working right there if you pay that much money for nice view and food you need to have some respect from here. They are super rude and No respect to the people

The food is excellent. Beautiful scenery driving through Malibu. It's always busy & a "who's who" public figure spitting is likely at this location
