I don't how this place calls itself an Irish Pub without serving Guinness on draft.

Been here 4 times in my week stay. Order has been right once. Chicken Alfredo was worst I have had, no flavor.

Went in, first time. Beer boxes on entry wall, table full of bottles. Dingy bar. Sat at bar. Stand up glass refrigerator inside of bar, when the door opens an ungodly bright light comes on, total ambiance killer. Bar maid was hacking every 2 minutes, eating, or picking at nachos behind the bar. Never offered me a menu upon arrival. Got a drink. Couldn’t for the life of me order food. Place is a total turn off. Just no. Paid and left. Just no.

The atmosphere is kind of plain but the wings are pretty good and they have a decent selection of draft beers. It's a bit unclear on how to actually get into the restaurant. Your best bet is to go into the hotel and ask the person behind the desk.

Breakfast is included with overnight stay. It was great.

I was hoping to have a more pleasant experience here but, unfortunately no. I arrived around 7pm to an empty restaurant, with some ppl sitting at the bar. Took 40 minutes to make 2 Caeser salads to-go (the food was good 👍). The staff overall seemed to be annoyed and unapproachable. Bill came out to be $33. Will not be recommending. Very callous customer service, no hello, no thank you, no goodbye, yikes.

Absolutely loved our experience at O'Brien's! The charm, the atmosphere, the food... all very good. So unassuming considering it is located in the Best Western hotel we were staying at and did not expect such a great hidden gem. The best part of our visit was the staff... so accommodating! We were a party of 14, including 6 kids. As someone that's worked in the industry, that sounds like a nightmare! But boy, did they delivery. Friendly, hard-working, attentive and professional. Can't ask for anything more! Robyn, Hope, Hugh & Paula... from my family to yours, thank you so much. When we return to the area, we'll be looking forward to visiting you again.

Edit March 2024- A change in management in the kitchen has dropped the quality of food from great to okay. The staff are as friendly as ever and I still love the atmosphere. The fish and chips are disappointing these days and the last wings we had were fried to perfection, but unseasoned. Great food, huge portions, good prices. A hidden gem in Waterville. Try the fish and chips, the beer batter is made fresh to order, homemade coleslaw and tarter sauce. The nachos are also amazing, fried fresh to order and piled with toppings. The potato skins are too! Oh... and wing night on Thursday nights! You won't be sorry.

Would not recommend at all. Granted they where short staffed but not busy. I had to chase the server down multiple times. Watched a guy get his food who put his order in 30 minutes after mine (just ordered a burger) waited an hour still with no service. Had a cup of soda no straw or refill offered. After an hour without being updated on when my food was coming or being checked on while watching the server chum it up with regulars i decided to leave and hit a drive through else where. I understand being short staffed todays day and age but that was the absolute worst service ive ever had. I was there for an hour and a half to drink a soda out of a plastic cup and leave.

Excellent alternative to Governor's. The food is much better, there are plenty of quiet tables, and a cozy pub available as well. Don't suffer another disappointment, dine across the street at O'Brien's! Try the fries, they're amazing!

TWO THUMBS DOWN; will not return. Corned beef dinner was more like soup and had very small pieces of corned beef. Poutine appetizer was cold. Pasta dish had no flavor; we had to take salt and pepper shakers from another table to make it even close to palatable.

The first photo on this page is their meeting room/dining room. The final photo is of the bar/restaurant. This area is a small, dark room and it felt like a cheap restaurant. They served good poutine. The service was fair. If you're staying in the hotel, breakfast is served here and it was very good. The server gave us a menu & took our drinks. A cook made our food and it was good.

Didn't even get seated. The lady behind the bar would not acknowledge us. We finally attempted to get her attention and she dismissed us. Saturday night which would be a prime time and will never be back.

Special was buffalo wings in a bucket. The wings were crispy and a good size but there was no buffalo sauce on them! You had to ask for it to dip your wings in it...... husband had a Ceasar salad with chicken - it was just ok. The burger was average- again you had to put your own condiments on which come in small plastic containers. Beer is served in original bottles or cans. Soda in plastic cups. Servers were very attentive to many of the local regulars.

Bar was still kinda dirty from the last person. Not sure what was on the bartender mind. Overall easy. There's plenty of restaurants within .2 miles

Went with a larger party, which was pre-planned with the restaurant. Limited menu, and did/would not offer options for people that could not have fried foods. Some of the part was served after everyone was done eating and multiple peoples food was mixed up. What a hidden treasure! Attached to the Best Western, you'd have no idea how quaint the atmosphere or how incredible the food! After being a guest at the Best Western the wait line to get into Breakfast was a long wait. The breakfast was good but waitress Louise was very rude. She messed up on the orders and checks and instead of graciously fixing it she told me it was only a difference between fifty cents or so, after I explained to her two people were paying seperate bills. I stayed at the Best Western in Waterville for 7 days and ate here three times and each time I had a great meal and wonderful service. The interior of this place is really neat if you like old wood. Most of the wood was reclaimed from old sailing ship, which you could see by the mortise and tenon joints that were visible throughout the restaurant. The pub/bar area is rich dark wood and is not that lit, but that is fine with me. Not a bad beer selection and they did have one IPA that was not bad. Food was great. I had their philly flatbed that was really tasty one night, then I tried their beef and Guinness that was rich and flavorful. The last night I was there was their wing night and they do make some great wings. The wing night in Thursday and it was a bit crowded that night, but the rest of the nights it had people in there, but not packed like it is on wing night. Also they provided the breakfast in the morning where you can chose from a couple of options (like coffee and juice along with two eggs, choice of meats and toast), but if you did not like those you could order off the full breakfast menu and use your coupon for $7 off the cost of the breakfast. I would recommend O'Brien's if you are ever traveling through Central Maine. I had a cajun shrimp salad that was nice and spicy. One friend had a rib meal with awesome fries, and the other had an Irish pot pie with a great puff pastry as the top crust. I also had a very good Irish Onion Soup. Everything was great and aesthetically pleasing. Had breakfast this morning and was happy with that as well. Food is very good. We had the same server, Dianna, both times. She is very attentive and friendly, and does a great job. Great experience.
