This place is amazing. The atmosphere is extremely homey and comfortable and the people there are so incredibly friendly you almost don't want to leave. The food itself is so so good, the fried chicken sliders that i ordered had amazing flavor that wasnt too overpowering but not too bland and very the chicken itself was tender, ontop of that its open past most places in the area and super convient if youre staying by carmel by the sea

Okay, we said, pub food sounds good today. Oh!!! The short ribs that my friend had were life changing. My shepherds pie was no slouch either. Eat here. Drink if you want to. You will be pleased.

Walked over to O’Callaghans from our hotel. Had the best drinks, some Hazy IPAS. The mezcal cocktail was to die for and finished off with the Irish coffee. Also have to try the sliders- you can tell they use all fresh ingredients. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The staff was great as well.

What an awesome local gem! We found this place on a family vacation because our hotel is next door, and it really felt like walking into an old Irish pub. Food was amazing and the bartender/server was really delightful.

Very lively with great live band this evening on the terrace. The food is great. We had some delicious appetizers and classic Irish entrees that were wonderful, and hit the spot after a long day. Oh, and the whisky and beer selections are great too. Will be making regular stops.

TLDR: Forget what you think you know about Irish pubs and their mediocre (but filling!) stew, shepherd’s pie, and soda bread. O’Callaghan’s has earned every one of its positive reviews by making pub fare that is delicious, of the highest quality, authentic, and still soul soothing in the way that only Irish pub food can be. O’Callaghan’s has great food, great drinks, friendly and helpful servers and bartenders, live music, good prices, and an owner who takes pride in presenting the best product possible. This may now be my favorite Irish pub in the US. Background: We stayed at a nearby hotel for a quick weekend and could see O’Callaghan’s from our room. I have a weakness for Irish pubs and try them out everywhere I go - even though the food is usually mediocre at best until you drink enough that it begins tasting better. I read many extremely positive reviews, and then heard a live band playing (evidently every Friday and Saturday night they have live music.) That was enough for me to drag my long-suffering wife across the parking lot to try out O’Callaghan’s. O’Callaghan’s is a smallish venue with tables and the bar inside and other tables and music out on the patio. We sat down inside and were quickly greeted by our very friendly waitress, Tammy, who took our drink orders. When she came back with our beers, we ordered the pretzel and cheese sauce appetizer and a cup of clam chowder to start. For our mains we decided to share the beet and pear salad and the shepherd’s pie. I didn’t take pictures of the food because there are already great pictures on the websites and our food looked as good as the best of the photos. The pretzel bites (sticks?) and cheese sauce was surprisingly good. I expected a broken, grainy, or completely artificial (think theater nachos) cheese sauce and was astounded to find a perfectly executed, smooth, flavorful homemade cheese sauce that complemented the perfectly cooked pretzels. My wife is the clam chowder aficionado of our duo, and she said it was one of the better clam chowders she can remember. It is evidently also made from scratch. Our only complaint about the beet and pear salad was slightly overdressed, but the dressing was light and tangy and complimented the beets and goat cheese. The salad was just the right size for the two of us to share. The shepherd’s pie was a home run. It was well seasoned without being so overly salty and gummy like so many others I have tasted. The potato topping was so flavorful, it could have been eaten all by itself. And the meat filling was tender and nuanced with the herbs and spices contributing to the overall complexity instead of trying to hide mistakes. Simply great. We felt the food here was approaching the execution of the $200 per person meal we had the previous night at Chez Nior! Their bar has a respectable amount of whiskey options for being a relatively small bar. The bartender, Danny, must be one of the friendliest and most engaging bartenders I have met. I asked him to make a drink I read about recently, and he was all in on figuring out a way to make it considering he didn’t have one of the more esoteric ingredients. And the end result was tasty! He chatted with us for quite some time exhibiting his high energy and kind demeanor and making us feel like we really belonged. We also had a chance to meet Brent, the owner. What a great person! We complemented him on the shockingly good food and the obvious care and attention to detail he put into the menu. He smiled and deflected the praise onto the chef and said his contribution was making sure they had the best quality ingredients to use. We spent almost an hour talking with Brent about the area and his work with Cal Fire. He was a gracious and engaging host and seemed to take guest experiences very seriously. The food was great, the drinks were good, the music was lively, and the vibe was welcoming and fun. We will be back every chance we get when I am in the area. I would give them 6 stars if I could.

I came there for the live music! The Next Blues Band was Great! I gave the nachos a 5☆. They weren't your normal nachos!!! Different & Great! It's a Irish Pub!!!! Service was very friendly & on top of things!

Good food, friendly staff, great live music and just a fun atmosphere! Love the fact it’s not the usual pub food. Much more upscale…organic, grass fed and complete passion behind everything they serve.

The whole bar staff is always the most receiving people I’ve ever met! The owner is always there, and the most gracious person takes care of everybody he meets! If you’re from out of town, you have to try this bar and if you’re a local, this Needs to become your local watering hole. It’s such an amazing place. They also have the best prices on drinks in town. I don’t feel like I’m breaking in arm leg.

Spent two nights in Monterey and ended up eating here both nights! Great atmosphere and the quality of the food is so much better than one first expects when walking through the door. The first evening we ordered the Shepherds Pie and Irish Stew, which were cooked to perfection and served in a timely manner. We eat a lot of Shepherds Pie as we travel and this was one of the best we've found. The Irish Stew however, was hands-down THE best I've ever had - super-tender, succulent, Guiness-braised short rib in a mouth-watering sauce, served with a side of warm, Irish Soda Bread! Brent, the owner, stopped and chatted with us for about 10 minutes, as we finished our meal and as we talked, it became evident he was much more interested in patrons having a dining experience, rather than a drinking opportunity. The second night my wife and I shared the wings, again some of the best we've tasted; the fish and chips, which will now be that standard against which I judge all others and a side of the apple slaw (you guessed it - delicious). Hats off to Brent, Daniel, and the rest of the staff!! Do yourself a favor and put this place on your short-list...

Wow! The pretzels! Even if you don't eat pretzels, try these. You won't forget how good they are! Also it's ok to dance to the live music and enjoy yourself. Very friendly service. And the area outside is like walking through a courtyard and garden hidden in an outdoor mall of small businesses, so you can walk off the calories for fun! 😉😊 Also, if coleslaw can be any good, try their's. It's not overly focused on mayo so it actually is good, and is well-balanced with tiny shreds of apples.

The bartender Amadeus gave excellent service and made great drinks. Not only were the drinks great but his food recommendations were also great. 10/10 will recommend others to go when he’s working!

The owner, Brent, is clearly very invested in the experience of his customers. It is obvious he is involved with the day to day operations and his employees are happy. Brent was very friendly and genuine. Could not have asked for a better place to hangout and have a couple drinks!

My girlfriend and I spent our 6 month anniversary in Carmel. We started off our evening at O'Callaghan, we tried couple other bars afterwards but they didn't have the vibe we were enjoying at O'Callaghan.

Fun atmosphere and great service. The owner took time to connect with us since we were visiting. Drinks and live music was amazing! Best pretzel and cheese that I’ve ever had!

The food was excellent but the drinks were a little pricey. But overall I would still give it a five. 👍

While the food was pretty good, what was lacking at this place was service, drink knowledge/taste and decent pricing. Upon being seated, I ordered a beer and a shot of well whiskey. The beer was Guinness and it wasn't poured well and kind of flat/funny tasting. They might need to clean their lines. The whiskey, for some reason, came on a huge ball of ice, even though I ordered a shot and not a rocks pour. The somewhat apathetic server asked if that was ok and I said sure as it was already there and I don't like to send stuff back. Food came out relatively quickly and was the highlight of the experience esp the hand cut fries. I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was flavorful but the chicken was somewhat dry due to how thin it was. Upon receiving the check, I was quite shocked to see that a regular shot of well whiskey was $12. I'm not sure outside of LA, Vegas or NYC I've been charged that much for a simple 1.5oz pour of well whiskey. Just kind of a mixed bag from my visit and I would give a 2.5 rating but rounded down for the above mentioned things.

We had an Irish coffee and Guinness and were pleasantly surprised of how well they came out! The Irish coffee - made traditionally, with real sugar cubes, excellent mixing, and a pristine aesthetic Guinness - a proper head, solid pour and crisp temperature We were hesitant to sample their food but when they heard this we were delivered a wonderful taste of their soda bread and chips! Everything was made day of and we’ll definitely be back to try their other dishes!!

We came here after our wedding to keep the party going (called ahead to make sure it was okay). We brought about 50 people, and Cesar and the rest of the staff were SO great and accommodating. Everybody had an absolute blast - the drinks were good, the space is great and has ample spots to both sit and dance. Also, the DJ was awesome! Thanks O'Callaghans team for giving us the best after party we could have asked for.

This place has it all. It is on the second floor and has an atmosphere that I would describe as open and happy with lots of conversations and laughter. It is obvious the locals eat here which is a great sign. The owner talks with the patrons and cares about his food and it shows. The food is AMAZING. The nachos. Homemade sliced potatos. The burger is cooked exactly how I asked for it. The stew is amazing and so tender. Best place I have eaten in both Carmel and Monterey in my 5 day stay. The menu is not huge but that's a good sign because it means that everything on it is made perfectly. Prices are honestly a steal. Very affordable for the area. Would be the first place I eat next time I come back to the area.

Always great, quality, food and friendly bar staff. Restaurant is very accommodating. Have hosted several parties here and everyone has walked away commenting on what a great place this is. I couldn’t agree more.

Went to visit following the great reviews we saw. Went during happy hour (good deals) on a weeknight in winter so a bit quieter than usual. Had the house made chips and sliders that were happy hour specials. Both were very good and value priced. Decent selection of beers you’d typically find at an Irish pub with a few CA IPAs and Mexican lagers thrown in. Only issue we had was the place was cold inside, so kept the hat and jacket on. Will definitely return when warmer weather takes us outside.

A big thank you to Brent the owner, kitchen staff, bar tenders and DJ! We had the after party for my wedding here in early December and working with them was incredibly easy. We were excellently accommodated throughout the night and it couldn't have gone more perfectly. Easily the best night of our life was spent in this bar, my wife wants to go back just for the french fries, they are "the bomb". Once again thank you! - The Brittingham's

Absolute gem of a pub in the barnyard. Perfect place to catch a football game or nurse a hangover. The food was excellent and the service was over the top. Outdoor space option for some fresh air.

Ridiculously good food in a fun and festive atmosphere! Our server was attentive and knew the menu well. Drinks were tasty and my cocktail was good strong. I highly recommend this pub. (We even had live music with a sax player who slid across the floor on his back!)

This was the best meal I’ve had so far in America over the past week! Wow the beef short ribs with spinach, carrots & mashed potatoes was incredible! Also loved their garlic soda bread and refreshing apple coleslaw salad! Definitely worth a visit!

An absolute MUST. I feel like this place is a hidden gem. We hung out in Carmel, and Monterey all weekend and found this local hidden treasure. The trio of sausages was amazing. The outside was perfectly crisp while the inside was tender and delicious. We ordered the shepards pie and short ribs and both were amazing. So better then the meal we had at another local favorite downtown that cost three times as much. We plan on coming back every time we visit. The food was exceptional.

Best fish and chips in Carmel! We tried a few other places during our vacation and wound up walking around this shopping center where we were welcomed in by the charming owner. Great spot and you can tell it's a local favorite!

Brent, Caesar and the bar staff made us feel welcome. They were attentive and paid attention to all the details for us. We had a large "after party" at the bar two nights in a row and they prepared excellent food and specialty drinks for our crowd. Great live music and a DJ made the atmosphere super fun.

The owner, Brent, was so hospitable. This was our first trip & he made us feel right at home. The server, Tammy, was quick & friendly. The general manager, Caesar, spoke to all tables and guests and ensured that all needs were met. The live music is upbeat and the DJ is energizing and friendly!!! Always recommend!!! This place is a must.

I was really surprised to get a bill with tips at various percentages calculated at the bottom with the base number being the total bill, not the pre-tax amount. I am usually a pretty good tipper, and am happy to do so. But I do not like being pushed to pay a tip on taxes. I already pay enough in taxes.

The Irish Potato Nachos has fries that are something else. We also had the chowder which was very good. It's a pub and open late and the food is awesome.

Absolutely GREAT pub in Carmel! The food is a cut above anything you'd normally expect in a laid back atmosphere. Top notch ingredients, many dishes made from scratch, in house pastry chef - just a great meal. The owner, Brent, came to our table & gave us some great local tips for our trip up to SF. (ferry ride to Sausalito w/Alcatraz views was wonderful!) He clearly is very proud of his staff & wants the customer to have a great experience. 5 stars. Thank you Brent & team! :-)

Everyone here is always so friendly and helpful! I love everything I’ve had! And the owner Brent is the most engaged caring hands on owner, plus he’s always supporting all sorts of non profit events and stuff in the community to give back!

Good food, reasonable prices, nice beer selection. Music was a bit loud, but I get it, they're trying to attract people since it's a bit difficult to find on the 2nd floor above the pizza shop.

I had a great experience at O'Callaghan. The food was great, everything was made with fresh high quality ingredients and the menue was unique with an Irish theme. It was the best Irish pub I've been to in the area. Prices were fair and the drink selection had lots of options with a great selection of Irish whiskeys. I would definitely come back and make it a routine place to visit. Highly recommend!

Great place that is actually open past 6PM. If you want to have a few in the evening in Carmel, give it a shot.

This place pours a really good Guinness. No bitterness and smooth as silk. They deserve your beer business. Food is great comfort fair and the atmosphere is welcoming. Recommended!

Went for drinks so can't comment on the food but I am sure it's good. The staff is great, really go above and beyond to accommodate the guests. It is a fun, laid back spot with some amazing live music and a cheerful happy vibe. Definitely recommend this place.

Stopped by at around 9:30 PM on a Wednesday night. The only place open and what LUCK!!! I had a great experience sharing the bar with others. A great bartender, casual atmosphere and lively conversation. I missed the food but I'll don't worry. Ill be back.

Because it was the only opened place when we where around for dinner, we decided to stop by and give it a try. The food was surprisingly good and the plates where nicely served compared to other Irish pub we went. Definitely recommend this place for those who like Irish food.
