Outstanding! One of the best places in New Albany

A group of 10 of us came here for a birthday dinner. You can watch them prepare your food, and we were satisfied with EVERYTHING that we tried. The owner was the sweetest, and warmest person! After our meal, she came out with a fish-shaped ice cream treat with a candle and sang happy birthday to the birthday girl. A great night was had here!

Unbelievably good Korean food in a cool space operated by the friendliest ladies. Love this spot.

Loved the food, especially all the little side dishes served alongside. You can combine and mix and match so every bite is fresh and different. Only thing I regret is not taking pictures.

Finally a REAL, AUTHENTIC Korean restaurant in New Albany!! Super super clean and bright atmosphere, Very friendly and warm service and the food is phenomenal!! We had the bulgogi fries, Galbi and a vegetable Kim bop And everything was freshly and expertly prepared in their sparkling kitchen!! The entrees are served with rice and the traditional panchan (side dishes). One of the umami-rich side dishes was a sesame leaf preparation that the chef explained was a Korean delicacy! I can't recommend this place highly enough and I can't wait to return and try their other dishes!! Sooooo good!!

I can’t gush enough about this place!! It’s a gem. I’m a hard person to please lol, but these ladies have checked every box to make me a hardcore fan. 👏🏻 Service — Our chef/server was a delight. She kept us educated on all the dishes and even gave tips for how to pair the food together. Every interaction was positive and we felt so welcomed. 🥰 Food — My. God. Everything was spectacular!! To go with the main dishes, several complimentary side dishes (like kimchi) were served and were meant to pair with the meal. We got the spicy chicken bulgogi and spicy rice cakes. 🌶️ SO SO GOOD, so much flavour and the food tasted clean (if you know, you know — a lot of food has junk in it that makes your body weep but THIS was clean food that left my body feeling satisfied and painless). Cleanliness — Spotless. Literally everywhere is clean and the kitchen (which is open to view) shone. The bathrooms were the same and women’s products were even provided for free 🥹 Overall Atmosphere — Very airy and the seating was comfortable. Really great Korean music was playing and made the experience a lot more immersive. All in all, love love love OhChae and can’t wait to go back again! 💛

I get nervous ordering at new places but they were so patient and kind like I'll definitely be returning<3 l ordered bulgogi, tteokbokki, veggie kimbap, extra kimchi, dumplings; the food was amazing 10/10. What a gem! These were the nicest people. Had the shrimp stir fry and fried rice. Large portion. Delicious! Had a sweet rice cake dessert, never had anything like it.. loved it! Definitely stop in and try OhChae.

Watching your delicious food made in front of you is truly an experience. Galbi and spicy pork are must-order or must-try. Mackerel and the beef bone soup are well-prepared. Watch out for small bones and the soup best consumed at the end of the meal. Eat yogurt thereafter if spicy food bothers you. I asked the chef to make my mackerel spicy, it tasted even better (for me, as it wasn't hot but more flavor added). Please enjoy!! T a s t y A d v e n t u r e

Everything was amazing!! My boyfriend and I visited on a Sunday evening, ordered three different dishes and all were incredible. We ate everything. We live about two hours away but plan on returning just to eat here again!!! The owners were delightful and sweet, service was excellent! The owner took time out of her evening to talk with us about the food and our travels. Couldn’t recommend this place enough! Thank you for the amazing food!

The bridge was closed today but was worth the detour to get here from Louisville. But by far this is the best Korean restaurant I've been to in the U.S and I've been to Cali and NYC and no place comes close. Real Korean authentic food, service, and Chef! Highly recommend to anyone looking the best all around Asian food experience in the Louisville Indiana area.

Was thrilled to find a genuine Korean restaurant. Lived on the east coast of China for 8 years so there were many excellent Korean restaurants in our city. This one reminded me of those restaurants. Fresh and delicious food. Friendly service. I had the Mini Mandu dumpling appetizer and Bibimbap with pork. Absolutely the best. The two ladies that prepared and served the food were very kind and hospitable. When I’m back in town on business I’ll be back. Highly recommend!

I had the spicy pork w fried rice, dumplings, and pictured is either a pumpkin or sweet potato soup. Everything was delicious and tasted fresh. Very friendly service. Well priced. This place is a hidden gem. My daughter (3) enjoyed the food as well.

We went here for the first time on Valentines Day and were very impressed! They gave us extra banchan and some tasty strawberries for dessert. I got the galbi and it was amazing. We can’t wait to come back

Food was AMAZING, by far some of the best bibimbap I have had in the area. The sides were also fantastic and the staff friendly beyond measure. Will absolutely be making this place a regular lunch spot for delicious Korean dishes. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Absolutely LOVE coming here. Food is amazing and ALWAYS fresh. Has been my go to spot for lunch for over a month now, the service is also top tier. Definitely recommend to all of my friends and family to come and try them out!!

The food here was amazing. We got mandu, spicy rice cakes, the spicy squid stir fry and my husband got the chicken bulgogi. All the banchan were amazing. Jenny was very very nice and motherly. We enjoyed talking to her and we definitely enjoyed watching her cook everything. We will definitely be back!

The food was great, it's a beautiful location, the staff showed considerable concern to make sure everything was great. My only complaint, and it isn't about the restaurant, is that a patron chose to CHANGE A DIAPER at their table. I'm hoping whoever that was will see this review and understand that they made a real stink and were completely inappropriate and absolutely disrespectful to everyone, from the owners of the restaurant to anyone and everyone who walked in, baby included. Yes, the place DOES have a restroom. Anyway, lovely place with fantastic food!

Delicious and authentic Korean flavors with a few unique twists. You get to sit at the bar and watch them make the food fresh right in front of you. The ladies that cooked and served us were super friendly and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

The bulgogi and kimchi are without a doubt the best I have tried. Around here or anywhere.

🚨 SECRET MENU ALERT 🚨 TRY THE ONLY BULGOGI BURGER IN THE MIDWEST!!! 🤯 Mind blowingly Great, My wife and I both order a Bulgogi burger and we get the Ganja fries to share. Places with a secret menu are always the best places. Great atmosphere, better food, ask for a Bulgogi Burger, Thank me later.

The food was delicious, I got the tofu jjigae spicy and it was perfect. The owner is so friendly and sweet, genuinely could not be nicer. I asked if I could have extra 반찬 (side dishes) and she gave me so much. If I lived here, I would order multiple times a week 😂

I'm Korean. So I think I have some say so on what an authentic Korean dish might taste like. I feel that this is the closest to authentic Korean taste you can get in Southern Indiana.

Incredibly good food! Probably the best Korean restaurant I have been to even out of some in Bloomington, LA, and NYC. The atmosphere was very homey and absolutely loved the food so much. The spicy bulgogi sub was so good, I can still taste the flavors hours after eating it. Definitely going there again and again :)

This is a really stunning surprise in small town New Albany. "Authentic" is really overused as a buzzword to mean that a restaurant is *aesthetically* similar to its root culture, or that the recipes are made using "traditional" styles or ingredients of cooking that make the food seem exotic and rare. That is NOT what you'll find at OhChae. Instead, you'll find a native Korean owner cooking the recipes she loves, using local ingredients and down-to-earth modern cooking styles, and serving in her natural style. What do I mean by "natural style"? Well, every entre comes with four sides, but those sides are always chef's choice; kimchee is a given, and sometimes she'll have more than one style available. I was by myself the most recent time I visited, and she gave me 4 different styles of kimchee and 3 other side dishes (I felt like I was being spoiled ❤️). She'll often ask how you like the various sides, and make fresh recommendations as she learns your tastes, so it really feels like being waited on by a doting auntie. Only thing to keep in mind is that the side dishes come in SMALL SERVINGS, so don't be afraid ask for a full order of a side item if you really like it (I may do this with the honeyed rice cakes next time). As to the price, what can I say? Downtown New Albany has been fancying itself rather prestigious in recent years (which I guess it KINDA is?), and I've gotten used to having to pay quite a lot for my meals. OhChae's really surprised me by being.... *reasonable.* Not cheap, not pricey - simply a fair price for the ingredients and labor with no extra "prestige tax" added on. It's so reasonable that I have to argue with myself not to go dining there thrice a paycheck. Atmosphere: OhChae's operates out of "Mesa" (basically a local rent-a-kitchen), so the decor is pretty simple - mostly decorated with cookbooks and cooking utensils that the building's owners are selling. (Do *you* have a problem with that? I don't.) If there's ANY criticism to be made, I guess it'd have to be that the hours are - admittedly - a bit unusual. They close in the middle of the week, and are not open after lunch on Friday and Saturday (Mesa hosts other groups at those times, so it's fair), so it's not always a place you can just visit on a whim. But HONESTLY, it's worth it to get in when you can. Taste her cooking, and you'll wish you had a second stomach to enjoy more of it.

We've been in three times now, the food is delicious, fresh and the portion sizes are generous. It's exactly what I've we've been looking for in the area but couldn't find. Thank you so much for sharing your delicious food with us! See you again soon.

I didn’t know what to expect when I walked in to a counter service, fancy looking restaurant. But I am so happy that I did. We had a variety of food from across the menu. Everything was perfect and quick! Tender and generous cuts of meat, delicious side dishes, and excellent kimchi. I highly recommend! Such friendly staff made the experience top notch.

Stopped in after day of enjoying Down Town New Albany. The food is excellent, the Chef is friendly and knew exactly what to recommend for us. If you are down town, grab some lunch and don't forget to try the Cucumber Muchim!

We stumbled upon this restaurant this past weekend. How exciting to have GOOD Korean food in New Albany! This nice family rents Mesa out a few times a week and serves delicious traditional bulgogi, bimbimbap, kimchi, fried rice...and lots more. And since it is in a "teaching kitchen," you have the option of sitting at the counter and watching them make your food. Everything was great. We ordered a soup (can't remember the name) that had pork filled wontons in it, kimchi fried rice, bimbimbap, and pickled cucumbers. Everything was AWESOME, but for me, the cucumbers were the star. The mother and daughter duo behind the counter were friendly and accommodating. We will be back!
