I’m gonna start off by saying my visit was probably a fluke, because I’m seeing this place averages at 4.2 stars. My gf and I were there last night on vacation. We go in, and the host doesn’t take us to a table, but wants us to pick. I don’t hate that, but it took us off guard considering we are from out of town. We pick our table and no one comes to see us for about 10-15 minutes. Keep in mind, there were maybe 3 other tables in this restaurant; clearly a slow night. Our server finally comes to us and I try to order two soups, turns out they both are out. It is what it is. At this point I’m frustrated because the free bread they gave us was stale, the complimentary salad’s were flavorless, the service was bad, and they didn’t have the two soups I wanted. But, I decided to wait it out for our dinner. I get the Detroit sliders. They were okay, but the issue is the meat should’ve been cooked medium rare, or the option should’ve been asked. Additionally the fries weren’t all the way cooked. My gf’s fried fish wasn’t breaded properly, the fish was sub par, and even more of her fries were under cooked. $44 is way too much for the quality of food we got. The whole experience was exceptionally bad. Also, what even is the atmosphere of this place? It looks Italian, but says it’s Irish food, and the inside looked like it was a former Chinese restaurant.

Great server. Beautiful restaurant. But the bland est food ever. Being healthy doesn't mean skip the herbs. Great place for those with dietary restrictions. No salt or pepper used here.

This is not the O'Mara's we have loved for so long. The service was great, but the food was disappointing. The shepherd's pie is not close to the great dish it used to be. The roast beef looked to be pre-purchased thin sliced cheap meat not a nice chunky, tender beef I had hoped for.

Felt like we had walked in off hours as the dark unwelcoming dining area was deserted. This place should invest some serious $ in making the dining area feel less like an abandoned banquet hall and more like a restaurant. The lake perch that I had for lunch was a very small portion for the cost. Our server was very warm and welcoming though.

Aside from being a lovely restaurant with healthy, farm to table food, O’Maras gives back to the community as well. They let us host a car wash for Berkley Cheer and we raised almost $1000! Thank you O’Maras for your kindness and partnership!

If you read nothing else, be aware that they dangerously and recklessly overserve alcohol to obviously intoxicated patrons. My fiancée and I attended the Blackthorn set on the evening of Saturday, April 20th, 2024. The star in this review goes to the band – the venue deserves none. Upon being greeted and taken to seating, we were surprised and disappointed to find ourselves jammed at the end of a long family-style table. Things only got worse when our tablemates arrived. There was a group of about eight who were seated with us, very loud and noticeably intoxicated already upon their arrival. My fiancée had a drink spilled all over her by the woman seated beside her. One patron was especially out of control, and he was seated next to me and across from my fiancée. By the end of the dinner course, he was so drunk that he was falling over himself, and eventually decided to leave early and departed with a few others from the group. Repeated high-value curse words abounded well into the music set, and I legitimately worried for my fiancée’s and my safety. Needless to say, this detracted in a great way from our enjoyment of the show. The bass player even at one point told this group to tone it down. Through it all, the server continued to serve this group several alcoholic beverages. Meanwhile, my fiancée and I (who ordered sodas), had to wait an excessive amount of time for just a single refill, while the server was more concerned with filling expensive bar drinks to pad her tip. The food itself was bland and dry, and the Reubens were inconsistently prepared (one of us got a single piece of meat while the other’s was piled high with meat). The menu was very limited for the set, and the price of every item was jacked up by at least $3 compared with the normal prices; we know because we reviewed the menu in the parking lot before going inside. There is really nothing Irish at all about this food or ambiance. The food prices are laughable for what you get. The surrounding community should know of this establishment’s negligent actions on Saturday night. I’m sure the local authorities would be interested to know as well. Such a poignant and sad coincidence that this was the same day of the fatal tragedy in Monroe County that saw a woman drive through a building, killing two young children, after being overserved at a nearby tavern. Do better O’Mara’s. This was my first and last time patronizing this place, but for my fiancee’s part you lost a longtime customer. Things have apparently gone downhill in a major way in recent years.

My friend suggested this, not having been in years but there were doing a limited menu. The food is so expensive (18 bucks for sliders, which are literally small cheeseburgers). We had some Guinness and went to another restaurant. Server was so nice but slow to greet us and the inside of this place is definitely more of a bingo hall or nursing home than somewhere you'd go with friends in your 30s. Theres also nothing Irish about this place. Not for me.

Came for a Blackthorn show on a Sat night-- used to do this regularly for years, but hadn't been back since before covid. We had a res for 4 and, instead of being seated at our own table, we were seated family style in one long table the length of the dining room, elbow to elbow with others, with 3 of us on one side and 1 of us on the other (which made conversing difficult). Whatever, we decided to roll with it. Service was solid, but the food was so disappointing. 2 of us ordered fish and chips (pan fried, "fishy" fish and cold potato wedges) and 2 of us ordered the perch (both reported it was not great-- or even warm). It was so underwhelming. The band was great, but only played for about 90 min (they used to play 2 sets with an intermission). Overall, an underwhelming experience. It's too bad, because I bragged about this place to my partner, who had never been... and he was so confused about the hype afterwards. I'm hoping they find their footing again, but I doubt we'll be back.

Genuinely bizarre dining experience, but not in a fun way. The menu is peppered with paranoid rants about food coloring and the FDA. A fairly standard 90s Irish pub atmosphere has been enhanced(?) with a wall of succulents and some inexplicable periodic tables added as decoration. Food is definitely overpriced for the portions and quality. Not having French Fries (or anything else fried) on a pub menu is a bold and interesting choice. Between the decoration and the menu rants, the overall impression is that this is a restaurant run by someone who would really like you to share his delusions, which does not make for the most relaxing evening dining out.

Went there on a Saturday night at 4:45 with my family to a completely empty restaurant except for two other people. Service took over an hour because there was only one chef in the back and the food was really bad. Every single person that ordered something with beef in it had their food burnt, the nacho cheese had re-solidified because the food took so long, the potato wedges were bland, and one of us got their food 15 minutes late even after we had already waited over an hour. I’m so confused how this place has a 4.3 star rating

We are in Berkley often for our business and ordered 3 Chicken Pot Pies to take home for lunch - I can honestly say it is the best pot pie I've had from a restaurant - the pastry topping the abundance of chicken veges and sauce\gravy just delish. We went to see the Blackthron show last night which was phenomenal - everyone should see them! O'Mara's has completely changed the dining experience for the show, and it's terrible. You're packed in like sardines at long tables and you're seated with strangers. The aisle between the tables are so small that it's nearly impossible to get through - be sure to not have to use the bathroom. The poor servers are probably bruised up from trying to squeeze between chairs to get to everyone. It's so cramped - you have no elbow room to enjoy anything. The food portions have decreased substantially also which was disappointing as well, but I know inflation has hit everyone hard. But it was just another disappointment on top of an already unpleasant dining experience.

Truly putting the "Oh?" in O'Mara's, this restaurant serves good food in expensive, small portions in one of the most confusingly decorated venues you could imagine. Stopped here on a whim with a friend and was blown away with the wild decor and truly demented menu decision. Nothing made sense. There are two (2) periodic tables of the elements prominently displayed on the walls. The lighting in the main dining area is harsh purple plant lighting that lines the random wall of potted plants. Beakers and flasks dangle precariously from the ceiling. The menu espouses concerns with the FDA and claims at least three things are poison. It's possible to order roast potatoes, but you cannot get French fries here. The food is ludicrously expensive. I had a chicken sandwich and it was $16 and came with NO sides. It was a good sandwich, but not $16 good. Had a lot of fun just staring at all the insane, slapdash decor all over the restaurant. I'll probably come back with different groups, but not out of personal satisfaction. More the morbid sense of curiosity that a child might have after finding a raccoon dead on the side of the road and wanting to gather up the rest of the neighborhood kids to gawk. Loved this place.

I ordered the Detroit sliders. Wasn't aware anyone expected rare hamburger by default. I took one bite and was repulsed, got the rest boxed up and will be giving it away. Do not ever send poorly prepared food back to the kitchen anywhere: it is an insult to the chef, the same chef that you expect to fix their mistake is the one you insulted and giving you something you will put in your body. The redeeming value about this place are the quips on their menu about poison and the FDA. That is information people need to know. Also appreciated is the Republican political talk I was overhearing between customers and several of the employees. I deduct the second star because the employee with the dreadlocks (I'm assuming he works there) waited a full two minutes before standing up from the bar before coming over to seat us, this same guy greeted us with fully defensive body language. I attribute to him either being high or naturally a hostile person.... SOMETHING was evident from these mannerisms.

There are periodic tables hanging around, some kind of crazy science project style plants hanging on every wall, and terrible, blinding ,grow lights everywhere. We stopped in on Wednesday. We left after 20 minutes. Dark, dank, cement floors and the dying herb wall with a smell of dirt, mold or stale air was incredibly underwhelming. $19 for a Maurice Salad? $23 for Fish & Chips? $8 for a bowl of soup? Unrealistic prices. I completely understand prices have increased across the board, but Holy cow! Hope improvements are on the to do list. The salad had a refreshing tang to it and was a little oily. The sauce that came with the wrapped salmon was perfect. Staff was amazing and attentive. I was surprised. I had not been here since COVID and then the closure for the fire. Like some of the other reviewers, I thought maybe they would have made the inside nicer. It is pretty much the same drab somewhat shabby interior. I was really looking forward to the food. My wife had spoke to the owner who spoke highly of new fresher and healthier choices. I had the O'Mara's Chicken (I think that is what it is called) it just tasted sour. No capers, (which the menu said were in the dish) a lot of artichoke, which I like but it overpowered everything else in the sauce. We had a large party ordering a diverse section of the new menu. Pretty much everything was very "mid". One diner did really like the Maurice salad. The bread from the bread baskets was really good. The ice tea is barely tea, just brown water. I was disappointed because we used to love going here. The food was just kinda there. No passion in any of the entrees at all. The twice baked potatoes tasted okay but were lukewarm like they had sat all day and were then thrown in the microwave for a bit. I hope they get it together because I would like to come back.

Where to begin…recently reopened, the service gave me no illusions otherwise. Everything seemed a bit disorganized. I’m sure they’ll get over that. The space is cozy but a bit disjointed. The menu is weirdly put together, with no appetizers (unless I missed something?) and juices at the top. The food was actually pretty good, and it’s evident that care is taken to source quality ingredients. Overall, not an especially polished dining experience, but I’m happy to have this place open again and look forward to coming back after they’ve had some time to settle in.

Went with a group of 10+ girls without a reservation. The owner was very nice and welcoming and was able to accommodate us even with the large group without notice. The food was good and the server and owner were so kind and went above and beyond to make our dining experience enjoyable. Definitely recommend!!

I dont recall why they downsized: possible fire in the upper level? Dining area was greatly reduced since I had been there many years ago. They had quite a good variety of dishes on the menu...and my husband loved his steak. I ordered the mushroom pot pie and it was a little disappointing. Our waiter was wonderful, but was super busy running his tables, the bar and carry out. They are quite a bit out of our way...we were in the area for a funeral...so I don't think we will be returning.

Great hole in the wall feel Irish pub. When my steak came out well done after ordering it medium rare the owner quickly got me a new one and purchased our drinks. (Unprompted) Shepard's pie, crab dip, potato soup and house steak were all fabulous. Nice people very attentive. Will definitely be back.

After two years of waiting for this restaurant to open, I was appalled at the interior. It’s very dark (always was but now worse) and it feels like your dining in a garage. Who in the world thought multiple gutters (used as planters - but the plants are dead ) secured to the walls was decorative and an update. The carpet is removed so the floor is bare cement. And the ceiling is exposed, so I guess it’s supposed to look more industrial. Pre-pandemic, I went there every week….. I won’t go there ever again. The place is an absolute dump, the food used to be decent, but now it’s just way over priced. ($19.00 for a Maurice salad is a bit excessive). Same owner and it’s too bad…… He’s so shortsighted that while the restaurant was closed due to a kitchen fire, he couldn’t have gutted the place and really fixed it up. Absolute shame.

We are glad to see O’maras is back open! We dined here tonight. Food was good but hoping they get some of the menu items back that we loved. The bread was 10/10 as always!

I was looking forward to trying this place, hoping since they were closed for a very long time that they improved the place, menu, and service. Wow, was I disappointed. 😒 The place looks like they are in the middle of construction. (How can the city of Berkley allow a place not finished on the inside to open?) The food was terrible. There is no other way to say it. The menu is so limited. A choice of 2 sandwiches for lunch. It's an Irish restaurant that seems to have more tacos on the menu than anything. Dont try to order French fries with your sandwich. They serve none! They give you this nasty little salad, little is being generous and no dressing on it! It was so wilted, slimy, old! I work close by and watched this place for 2 years say they were remodeling. All I can say is you don't want their contractor!!! 2 years and the place looked dark, dingy and terrible. Food was awful. I'm very sorry to say so, but it was. 🤷‍♀️

Not what it used to be. First off, I know they were closed for a long time. Covid kicked it off and then when places started to reopen, O’Mara’s didn’t follow. Heard they were remodeling. Well nothing changed on the inside other than I think they removed the carpet/flooring? It’s just concrete now. That’s fine but it still looks a bit dingy on the inside. A coat of paint would’ve done a ton of good to freshen up the place. Weird shelves on the walls that have, what is it, herbs growing in them? They just looks like weeds and dead plants. They aren’t full or lush or add to any ambiance. The menu had a whole section of tacos. That was odd but okay. I had the dill grill cheese and it wasn’t melted at all. Weird chunks of mozzarella or something. Just an odd, small sandwich. Comes with an equally weird tiny salad. Bread has to be ordered and it’s cheap! $2! But it was hard as a rock. Old. So the good stuff? The potato soup was so good! And a wonderful server! I remember their food being comforting, flavorful and not a bad price. Hoping they return to form soon because, while the interior needed a teeny bit of TLC, the food and selection was always solid.

Just reopened after being closed for over two years for renovations. The Rueben sandwich was great. Loved it! The decor is an embarrassing. It looks like something left over from the psychedelic 60’s. Plants that are half dead are lining the orange walls, with pink and purple lights strung throughout. The carpet has been taken up, the cement floor is uneven in many places as evident by the napkins placed under the table legs. We will get carry out but probably won’t dine in unless changes are made.

The chicken pot pie had good but unusual flavor. The chicken and vegetables should have been cooked longer to be tender. The lighting caused the salad to look unappealing.

I am so disappointed this place didn’t survive Covid. Google says it is temporally closed. However, it has been closed since early 2020 The food was always delicious, and I loved coming up on the weekend for brunch. Sad to see It go ☹

I typically visit for holiday brunches. However, my last visit was for breakfast. The omelette was delicious. Homeade jams were very tasty. The honeycrisp apple salad is really good too. Rating it a 4 because the interior can use an upgrade and because it is the best in comparison to other restaurants in THIS city. This is not a national rating.

Breakfast was outstanding, appreciate the many little touches that probably go unnoticed. Like freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, hand filled tea bags, also freshly prepared desserts. Our server was great, her description of available desserts made it impossible not to order and we were not disappointed. Thank you Brigid

We lived two blocks away for 10 years before we went here for brunch or dinner. Now we go a couple times a month. The staff is always friendly and professional. Multiple servers come to the table. The food is very high-quality and a mix of favorites and new. The chef makes my husband an incredible vegan pasta vegetable dish. And I eat a great big burger!
