I've been to Papa Buck's a few times and it's the best barbecue I've had from a restaurant. My go-to is half a brisket scooby with mushrooms, bacon, and jalapeños with a side of fried okra. If they're out of brisket, get the pulled pork - it's the next best thing.

My go-to BBQ spot when traveling through Metter, GA. Absolutely love the BBQ and highly recommend everyone traveling on I-16 to take the metter exit. It’s about a half mile from I-16 going north.

The most horrible brisket I've ever had. We fed $30 worth of sandwiches to the dogs. They had great tea though.

These are the best ribs I have found anywhere. I have been to many BBQ places across the country and these are my favorite ribs.

Papa Buck’s catered our meal for work. Food was delicious and affordable. They sent along extra serving utensils, thinking of everything.

We got take out and it was just ok. Glad I checked the food before we left, had to send back 2 of the meals because they weren’t what we ordered, and the Buffalo chicken fingers were packed in a bag sideways, so all the liquid leaked out into the bags.

The food used to be amazing. We used to regularly make a 2.5 hour trip to get their brisket. It is absolutely garbage now. The brisket was so dry I think cardboard would have had more moisture. I don’t know what has changed but it has seriously gone way down hill and I hate that because I have told so many people over the years how amazing it was but I definitely won’t be coming back. The service was almost as bad as the brisket but not quite as bad. They have a bunch of teenagers that just don’t care at all. We got drinks once and had to go back up front ourselves with our glasses to ask for refills. They never came to check on us once after they brought us that bone dry brisket. I guess they knew it was that bad they didn’t want to show their faces again.

They owe me a potato salad other than that it was awesome. Was spending the night next door at Jay's truck stop a couple of weeks ago and couldn't stop smelling that delicious barbecue. Well this Memphis boy needed a taste and it was amazing. Had a really good pulled pork sandwich meal and I also got a pound of brisket with a setup. Haven't had the sauce from this area before and it was really good. To me kind of a vinegar mustard blend. I ordered 2 sides because I wanted to try things the sweet potato Puffs were amazing next time I'll be sure I get my potato salad. It wouldn't have been anything really to go get it but and I was too full and too tired so went to bed instead. 😂 Next time I'm driving through the area definitely planning on stopping at Jay's again next door because it's so easy to park my rig and get over to Papa Bucks. Definitely going to get another pound of that brisket and a sandwich again.

We always stop by each month to pick up a pound of pulled pork barbecue. I's always very good. That's why we keep coming back.

The brisket is, hands down, the best I've ever tasted. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is pleasant. Love this place!

Heard about this place from a website. Was really disappointed in the flavor of the brisket. It wasn't bad, it was just bland as hell. Sad when the best thing on my plate was the fries and texas toast. That being said, our server was awesome. Friendly, put up with our shenanigans, and I tipped her well. Sadly, everyone I was with had the same experience, so it wasn't just the brisket. Atmosphere is just that of a mom & pop BBQ joint. Nothing bad, nothing special.

Stopped in when traveling to Savannah… 1st time… awesome food, atmosphere and overall experience. We will be back if we ever pass back through! Highly recommend!

First time diner. I ordered the 1/2 chicken, baked beans and collard greens. My meal was served quickly by a friendly waitress and everything was hot. However, the chicken was over cooked and dry or warmed over. The beans had little to no seasoning, but pouring the barbecue sauce in it made it very tasty. The collard greens were very good. The tea was strong and sweet just like I like it.

Exactly what a bbq place should be, if you want candlelight and a wine list, go somewhere else. We stopped here heading to the coast, and stopped again on our return trip. We had brisket, pulled pork, pork chops and we wish we lived to closer to this place. We went back toward the interstate about a quarter of a mile and used picnic tables beside the lake. It was great

I recently had the pleasure of working with Papa Buck's BBQ for a South African-style BBQ for clients, and I must say they went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. From the initial booking, to learning to make a South African cake, to the final clean-up, the team was extremely accommodating, professional, and friendly. They even allowed us to have specialty sausages and seasons drop shipped from a South African butcher to their restaurant for that authentic flavor. The team at Papa Buck's BBQ, led by Jeremiah, Seth, and Ney-Ney, not only provided delicious food that surpassed our expectations but also took care of all the details, including set-up and presentation. Their attentive staff ensured everyone had what they needed, making the dining experience truly exceptional. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with Papa Buck's level of service and attention to detail. They truly went out of their way to cater to our needs and make this client event a success. I highly recommend this restaurant for any catering or dining needs and will definitely be using their services again in the future.

Dishonest waitress I tipped appropriately 0!!!! I should have gone across the street. Went across the street (Jomax) much better brisket sandwich.

Ok, 3 of us got the burnt ends sandwich and fries. The BBQ sauce on the sandwich was extremely sweet and our waitress talked us out of getting the Brunswick stew because it's also sweet. The fries were cold sandwiches were not that good, I had a huge piece of fat in my sandwich. Ok on a big plate but not in a sandwich. The only reason I'm giving this place a 4 is because our waitress, Christina, felt bad about the cold fries and cooked us another huge order without us asking. They were awesome. Thank you Christina, to a true American who cares about her job and knows who her customers are and truly wants to do right by them and do what ever it takes to make it right. She understands customer service! Hard to find these days!

Terrible so-called BBQ. The worst i ever had. I ordered the half pound BBQ on a bun. The BBQ was a lump of meat. It looked like it had been formed into a lump of meat. No taste, the bun was soggy.

As a truck driver it’s hard to find some good BBQ. This place was right next to the truck stop so I had to try it. They gave a good amount of food for a very reasonable price. I ordered the 2 meat combo and everything was so good. I will definitely come back.

Our waitress was nice ! Bbq was good. They only smoke turkey on Thursday so if you want it hot make sure to go then. The sweet potato tots were good , the sweet bbq was good. The guys really liked the ribs and fatty brisket. Our bread came untoasted when it was suppose to be texas toast. The corn was on the cob and fried, super greasy. The Brunswick stew was kinda bland and soo many tomatoes

I have to stop if I am passing through. I love the Scooby Snack - fries, real cheese, BBQ pork, sauce, sour cream! Yummmm!

I picked up food for someone. Food is good, service could be a little better. A simple "Thank you, come again" would suffice.

As a quick lunch stop, it didn’t do much for us. We just had pulled pork buns that were pretty basic. The Mac and cheese just wasn’t very good, probably just a bit old. We’d seen some tasty looking plates going by on their way to other diners, so if you’re looking beyond the basics, you’ll probably do alright. High percentage of working men in for lunch, not a bad sign.

Super quick service and even better food. Wish I lived close by so I could try out more food.

It is a good place to eat but I went in late one evening and they were out of BBQ.

These are some of the best ribs I've ever eaten. The mac n cheese is made with shells instead of macaroni, which is a huge plus for me. I added the sweet n smokey bbq sauce to the ribs, and it made it that much better. I also got the fried okra which was some of the best okra I've had in a long time

Little atmosphere, excellent service, food is ok/good. Good place to stop if you gave a hankering for BBQ but honestly, I had better: brisket was fatty, potato salad had some ingredient (sour cream???) that made it taste funny (only ate ⅓), cole slaw was good (not too sugary).

I have been going here for years, but it has been a while. It tasted just like it did before, AMAZING! The Brunswick Stew is one of my favorites. I could make a whole meal just from that.

We love Papa Bucks and make a point to eat every time we are in town. Stopped by Monday around 4pm because on Trip Advisor said open 7 days a week - 11am to 9pm. Which surprised us because had always been closed on Sunday and Monday. The door said open with hours 11am to 8pm. But they were closed. We did get to come back Tuesday and enjoyed our meal as usually. Waitress informed us they are now closing at 3:00pm on Mondays.

Nope! Nope!Nope! Solid fat on both of our sandwiches. Why would you not trim the brisket prior to serving it to people? And not serve solid fat on a brisket sandwich. I did not eat mine, my husband did and he was up all night sick from eating the fat. On a side note, the sweet potato puffs we good and so were the fries. And the place is adorable with good tea. Just check the inside of your sandwich before eating

The pulled pork & chicken were delicious. Perfectly smoked and served with a smile. If you find yourself near Metter, be sure to stop in.

This was my second time eating here, and I ordered to go. The BBQ is sub-par and is flavorless until you douse it with sauce. The potato salad was not your usual, and my baked beans were cold. I Other than the fried Okra, which is made to order, was great! I don't think I will waste my money there again.

I ordered the bucks sampler and everything down to the ice tea was great. All of it the ribs the chicken brisket and the pulled pork were as good as you can get anywhere for any price. Speaking of the price even though I got a sampler platter the portions were large and the price reasonable

Quick lunch stop on the way to Jekyll Island. Great pulled pork sandwich and potato salad. Also had fries with cheese and pulled pork mixed in. Awesome!

The Best BB&Q place in town. The Best Chicken salad wrap in Metter, the best I have ever eaten. And ask for Christina Cobb awesome waitress.

4-1/2 stars - A very enjoyable BBQ Pork Plate with a large portion of moist & smoky meat & well baked Mac & Cheese. Arrived to late for the Brunswick Stew so will need to return and have another plate --- or just try the Pigzilla Challenge instead.

Love love love! We are from out of town and ANYTIME we come down I-16 we make sure to stop in Metter and get us a brisket scooby snack. It is the best and the mac and cheese is a great add on 😊 Super family friendly environment and I highly recommend it.

On the weekend of 04-29-2023, we stayed in Metter, GA and stopped in at Papa Buck's BBQ for the first time. Good place. Great service. Good atmosphere. The BBQ plate was enough for the two of us to share it and we each got separate fries and tea. We also each got a separate order of fried okra. All of the food was delicious. The tea was strong and sweet, which is just how we prefer our iced tea. The BBQ plate was very good. We would definitely stop in there again. Good food, friendly staff, friendly atmosphere.

Really good Georgia BBQ. I had the pulled pork plate with Brunswick stew. The pulled pork was tender and moist. The stew was very flavorful. Definitely would eat here again if in the area.

Absolutely amazing BBQ. Wednesdays are Burnt-Ends as the special and they are probably the best in the county.

I got the chicken bacon ranch or whatnot quesadilla, others got pulled pork plate, brisket plate, salad with chicken and cheese burger. All yummy.

Good pulled pork, but there was not much meat on sandwich for almost $6. Staff was very nice and attentive. The pork plate came with a side salad but was all arugula which is the most bitter lettuce you can eat. I had already taken a couple bites out of my sandwich before I took the photo.

Convenient barbecue spot off of I 16. Service was fantastic and quick. Portions were good for the price.

I stop here every chance I get. I always came for the ribs then I finally decided to try the brisket. I have never in my entire life had brisket as good as their's. I wasn't even a big fan of brisket till I had it there. I've tried to find some local to me ever since but so far no body has gotten close.

I was passing through after delivery in Statesboro ga....great food and service and definitely back when in area again!!

Not so good, this time. Pulled pork was greasey & bland. Stew was just vegetable soup.

The staff is always friendly and helpful. The only complaint is I don't like the taste of their potatoe salad. Other than that the food is very good.

Be careful they will charge you for stuff not on the menu. Left a $5 tip on carry out. Had to go back in for napkins and get bbq sauce. They said I had to pay for bbq sauce. Skip this one.

Give me a salad that was a Wilton and my barbecue was cold to the touch yeah you have to eat that you can't send it back

We happened to be there on a Wednesday, which is burnt ends days. I had that and ribs. Other people had pork, chicken and whatnot. It was all good. Glad I didn't get a huge platter though, because there was a lot of food.

We can't say enough about the food and service here ! Definitely try the Brisket Quesadilla & Pulled Pork Sandwich. Their sweet tea is also delicious ! A hidden gem in Metter for sure right off Interstate 16!

I had a terrible experience with this restaurants food today. First I was given the wrong online order an then when I returned and got the correct and returned home with it the ribs had a spoiled smell and were rotten. It appears that they served old ribs from days ago. Eat there at your own risk. I'll never order their food again and will definitely be contacting the health department to inspect this place.

Great service awesome bbq and very clean

I've been eating at Papa Bucks for almost 10 years now and I funny even live in Metter. The plates used to be good and plentiful but I stopped in today and I was disappointed in the portion size to say the least. I paid $17 for a 2 meat plate and this is all I got with 2 sides and a slice of bread. This plate is much smaller than the one I am used to getting from here. Very disappointed.

Family friendly, old school, local, local, local BBQ joint. I had the brisket (and only the brisket) at their recommendation. Moist and flavorful to be eaten alone. With a server's glove. While driving.

Weve been several times. Puller pork isnt really what I prefer but I do like the ribs and brisket. We got there about 40 minutes prior to closing. Understandably they were out of ribs and brisket. We decided to try the chicken bacon ranch quesadilla and loaded fries with pulled pork. Both were very nice portions and reasonably priced. We enjoyed both and will return to have them again. Glad we decided to stay and try them even though I was craving ribs. Hopefully we can have both next time.

It wasn't better in Metter. Pork was cooked well but didn't have enough seasoning. The sauce was bland and runny. Coleslaw and fried okra were good. Thumbs sideways on Papa Buck's.

Stopped by on our way to Savannah for the weekend highly satisfied with the food and walked with a whole bottle of there sweet and smoky bbq sauce will definitely be returning I would drive all the way to meter to eat there and great customer service we loved our waitress

My family and I got a couple of "Scooby snacks" and I must say it was very good. You can't eat this in one helping. It was my first time eating here and first impressions do count!! Awesome plate! 👍👍

My son had a perfectly cooked, medium rare cheeseburger that was juicy and excellent. I had a pulled pork sandwich with slaw. It was some of the best food we've had in a long time! Service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend!!!

The owner underpays his staff every chance he gets. He the service towards people of color is horrible my advice for anyone with a soul and morals DO NOT EAT HERE
