Dinner on Friday night. Everything is perfect love the Sicilian pasta. My daughter loves the steak.

Food quality has deteriorated. This place used to have really good, flavorful Italian food, but based on last night has lost its touch. Lobster tail pasta was a hot mess. Super heavy and dense cream sauce with no flavor - curry, salt. Then there was equal parts dried (not fresh) pasta and 20-25 count shrimp, baby shrimp, and mussels. It seemed like they were trying to add extra protein despite having a 4 oz lobster tail….why? It’s August and that dish made entirely no sense. The fig and prosciutto salad was exactly that - fig and prosciutto only….right on the nose. No flavor in the dish aside from that. My daughter had beef tartare and got sick 1h later. She’s eaten this dish at other places without issue in the past. We’ll be passing on Pepenero going forward.

Noah, by far, is the best ever. We ask for him every time we go here. I can not say good enough about this man. He is knowledgeable, personable, and truly knows his stuff. He makes you feel just like family. He makes this world a better place.

Our third time here on our Traverse City visits! One of our favorites. Authentic Italian!! The Fettuccine is a fav, the ragu is so developed. Wife had the Linguine and the lobster was cooked well. But, probably the best thing on the menu was the Porcini Vellutata! OMG!! If you're not a fan of mushrooms, like me, don't miss it. It's one of the best things I've ever had! The service. Well, I'm not sure you can get better service! Everything was timed very well. Best to make reservations, tho. Dessert was as good as it looks. The drinks were great as well. Had a nice whiskey list and was able to get a pour of Maker's Mark Cellar Aged. Overall, once again, a great dining experience.

Best meal in Michigan! It was delicious! I got the tre chocolati as dessert, and it was amazing! I got the linguine, and I’ve never eaten pasta so good! Everything looks amazing! The dessert plates were decorated with chocolate. Yum! Compliments to the chef! Edit: this review was left by my 11y/o nephew. He’s never written a Google review before but asked to and NAILED IT. He’s also a gluten free kiddo (has been for years) and doesn’t like to eat out because typically the GF options aren’t that good. So this review, from this kiddo, is gold!

Everything we had here was delicious. My husband thought I was weird for ordering a side of the polenta with my pasta dish…he had to eat his words because it was SO GOOD! And the prices were all reasonable as well. And if they have cannolis when you go, GET ONE! They are the real deal and you wont be disappointed.

Wonderful, refined, romantic. Our lobster and shrimp fettuccine and halibut were fresh, the seafood succulent, and the light cream sauces supporting the entrees. Perhaps a little heavy on pepper but just a tad short of perfection. The seafood mixto was lightly breaded and fried, gently salted, and superb. Similar high marks for the prosciutto, Parmesan, fig and almond salad with scilian balsamic. Impeccable service from Kyle our waiter topped off the evening out.

I worked at Pepe Nero a while ago, and can tell you that the attention to detail is next to none in the area. The quality of pure cookery, the food, the ingredients, the team, it’s incomparable. There is more passion in that kitchen than anywhere I’ve ever seen. If you’re looking for a pure Italian experience, an educational experience, Pepe Nero is the best bet. Aioli isn’t served with Frito misto, it’s perfect exactly how it is, adding anything to it will completely change the flavor.

Great bar but Chef is a full on pretentious a hole with zero flexibility in his menu. Asked for aioli ( just f'n mayo) with our fritto misto and was told the chef only serves lemon with it. Go shove your menu in your a$$. With an over priced menu don't treat your customers like they're children. Giorgio is a douche, don't waste your time or money here.

I wanted to love this restaurant. No problem with reservations, staff is very attentive, seating is comfortable, but the food is not at the level I expected. Highlight was the Prochuitto and Parma salad. I may go back for that. The only thing that would improve the salad is fresh figs, those are hard to get. As a former Italian restaurant owner and having traveled to italy multiple times, pass on the pasta. Go straight to an entre, lamb or steak.

After my second time I wasn’t as impressed. Food was good but not worth the price to me.

Limited options for vegetarians - felt dated in this regard. Otherwise, dishes were well prepared and well presented, but 24 dollars for a child’s serving of fettuccine with sauce seemed a bit extreme. It felt like we were paying for the gimmicky location rather than innovative cuisine.

Coasting on its location and reputation, the food wasn't bad but it was also not amazing and certainly not worth the premium prices. This was especially true for the $24 they charged for my 9 year old's pasta pomodoro, which was small. In light of the expensive meal, the kid's meal price felt rude. Limited vegetarian options and limited options without pork. Won't be back.

Beautiful space. The tortellini was super salty (and I like salt). The fish was good. The steak was good but salty. Service was nice.

The service, the food, the care and attention the entire experience was given was flawless. Each course was it's own wonderful and unique event. Expertly prepared and served with impeccable timing. If you visit Traverse City without coming to Pepe Nero you are missing out on a culinary adventure. Update 6/19/2024 The second time was even better than the first! The only thing that beat their excellent food was our wonderful server. They do a wonderful job here and I'm sad I live out of town because I would be a regular. Thanks goes out to the chefs, servers, host, and everyone else who contributed to a magical night.

The finest Italian dining experience we’ve ever had. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and explained the menu and answered all of our questions, helping us make great choices. The wine selection is amazing! To finish off our meal was the best tiramisu I’ve ever eaten!

We enjoyed our night out at Pepe Nero! My wife and I shared a delicious salad and roasted potatoes. We each had a drink 🥃 and the short rib ragu. Everything was delicious! The only downside was that they charged us for bread without letting us know it wasn’t complimentary. We will definitely come back but may pass on the bread

They had the nerve to charge $24 for a bowl of linguini for my 13 month old granddaughter after we spent over $700 for dinner. I would expected that to be comp’d. The manager was an a.. when I challenged him with the charge. Will go to Stella Italian restaurant next time!!

So there were 10 of us in our party. It started of normal then it seemed like we were just too much for them to handle. And so With that came, being ignored, asking for drinks over and over for the same one. The portions are ridiculously small for the price you pay and was nothing special! My sister found a hair in her dish immediately when her plate was put in front of her and she was treated like she put it there herself to get a free meal or something. Not even a bite taken yet and the hair obviously wasn't her color. The waitress was short with her attitude and very rude for no reason. They didn't even take her plate back or offer a new one or take it off her bill. She didn't touch it at all! When our bills came, one of us noticed they automatically charge everyone a tip one

My friends frequent PepeNero whenever they are in the area and love it. We were having a couple's weekend away, so they made us dinner reservations for 8. I am on a very strict medical diet that fell into no one category, gluten free nor lactose free specifically. I had no hopes of being able to eat with the rest of our group and resorted to the idea of a liquid dinner. I was completely wrong. Noah our waiter was phenomenal! He insisted we try to find something for me to enjoy with the rest of the group and listened very carefully to my long list of restrictions. He mediated back and forth between me and the very patient chef on duty. Noah was so insightful as to even notice I have a "good ear" (due to surgeries) and was comfortable enough to ask me which ear was my better ear and approached me from that side as the night moved on. I have long hair (which hid my hearing aids) and am in my mid 50's, I was very impressed he picked up on this. Let's just say, everyone loved their food that night and I was able to have a dinner that we presented just as lovely as the rest. Honestly, everything was above and beyond! While there, our friends who have gone to this restaurant in the past, were sought out and welcomed again at our table by a friendly waiter they have had in the past. My experience at PepeNero will be shared with those I know who have vacation homes and travel to that area. Customer service was fantastic and the food excellent.

I must say, the server Shane was extremely helpful in giving us knowledge on the dishes and also input on historical information on this location . The dishes, oh my goodness, was taking me to Italy. The chef is doing it right. In every bite you taste layers of flavors. Definitely a must if you love great food and awesome staff.

genuinely such a wonderful experience all around every time. not only is the food delicious but the staff is excellent. working in restaurants most of my life, i know that allergies and dietary restrictions are not always taken well, but the servers here always go out of their way to make sure i have a great gluten free meal and never make me feel like a burden and it's always so very appreciated:)

We haven't been here in a long while and it is our loss because this was one of the nicest dining experiences we've had in a long time. the atmosphere is incredible. The service is equal and our two dishes were fantastic. One was the pork and the other was a vegetable dish. Both perfectly cooked but what stole the show was a magnificent dessert orchestrated by Monica.

PepeNero has a cool Italian vibe, sophisticated menu and deep Italian wine list. They made me a lemoncello martini, we had a great time ❣️

Since then, it has remained a reliable choice for an exceptional dining experience. From the moment you step in, the attentive service sets the tone. We always request Noah, our favorite server, who excels at suggesting wines to complement our meals. While the menu boasts consistently excellent dishes, we've explored them all and now wish for a bit more variety. Whether it's your first visit or an annual tradition, Pepenero is perfect for a special date night or a memorable evening out in TC.

We dined at the “other” Italian place the night before and PepeNero knocked our socks off. We preferred the modern vibe and classic dishes with slight twists. Wine, cocktails and service were supreme as well.

The staff is always awesome and very accommodating. I always feel as though I am their only customer. The cocktails and food are always very good. The cost is a bit higher and more of a special occasion type of outing, but well worth it.

PepeNero provides a fine dinning experience encompassing the food, staff and ambiance. Hope to return on my next trip to Traverse City.

Overpriced, average food. Not as special as the reviews portrayed. They were not accepting reservations, but the place was empty, and this was 6pm. The dish I had was very salty.

Excellent food and amazing service! My wife and I recently went to Italy and ate tons of food, eating at PepeNero we felt like we were back in Italy. The owner is from Sicily and it definitely shows in the food. We highly recommend going here, but be sure to make a reservation ahead of time because they book out several weeks in advance most of the time.

Went here for the first time over the weekend and it was delicious. Their pasta dishes fill you up and have high quality ingredients. One thing, if you go with more than 5 people 20% tip is automatically included in your meal.

One of the best meals/experiences I've had in TC. We had the octopus and mushroom soup for appetizers with scallops special and homemade pasta for our entrees. The service was top notch and waitress very knowledgeable. Only complaint was the dessert. Thought both of them were just ok.

We had a disappointing and hideous experience at this Italian restaurant. The customer service was horrendous, with rude staff who seemed disinterested in our needs. They not only ignored us, but an actually insulted us when asked what the pasta sauce was made with. To make matters worse, the pasta was overcooked and lacked ANY flavor. What's most troubling is that we felt discriminated against during our visit. Overall, it was a DISTURBING dining experience.

Had an absolutely amazing dinner and service, however, it started off in a VERY bad way! We arrived at 6:45 PM for our 7:00 PM reservations and met outside of the entrance. The polite receptionist told us that our table wouldn't be ready until right at 7, I said no problem at all because we didn't know how traffic would be we arrived early but not a problem to wait and said we'll just go down to the bar and have a glass of wine, she looked at me and said oh no, that's not possible, all of our bar stools are reserved for dinner only reservations and we don't allow people to go in???? I'm like excuse me, I'm here to have a $300.00 dinner for two and we can't go into the restaurant and order a glass of wine from the bar, even if we stand up?? She said no and went and got the manager, he told me the same thing!! I've had dinner at fine dining establishments around the world and this is the very first time in my life, I wasn't allowed in a restaurant to have a glass of wine before dinner. So my wife just insisted we wait in the parking lot until they would "allow" us to enter? I'm still upset about this four days later and probably will never go back because of it. We went to Setlla's two days later which we also go to a lot and they were so welcoming, our table wasn't quite ready then yet either and she said why don't you go and order a glass of wine from the bar and you can sit over here until we are ready for you. I had asked the manager at PepeNero why we couldn't go get a glass of wine and take it outside in the waiting area to wait and he said, oh no, you can't do that, we don't have a liquor license out here and we were five feet away from their outdoor dining tables all drinking wine? What a strange evening and unfortunately put a very bad taste in my mouth for what was supposed to be a lovely evening.

The Linguini with seafood was excellent. The special, which was scallops with risotto was stellar. Mushroom soup was a delight. Impeccable service. There really was nothing not to like about dining here. This was our third dinner at PepeNero and it's been consistently great. Also the desserts are inspired and outstanding.

Excellent farm to table Italian fare, complex, delightful Sicilian wine, relaxing outdoor patio, and world class service. Can't wait to return to this gem.

Sadly our second visit here was not as good as the first. The Primi Linguini pasta was goo and the shrimp were tiny and looked like frozen from a gfs bag. I appreciate al dente pasta but this dish was just a sticky gooey mess. The lobster was the size of your pinky and although not listed in their menu description there was calamari like rubber and it was hard to find the couple minuscule clams. Waiter came back quickly after serving and unfortunately I had just taken a bite and just nodded in acceptance. The Pa pardelle was fatty but ok. The waiter was friendly at first but then seemed annoyed and less than accommodating. We will not be back!!! Wished we hadn't tipped at all.

Tried this top rated spot in November and they were closed for holidays. Returned in March and it was Restaurant Week. Reservations worked out well, ambience and service were great. Only regret was that the main menu wasn't being offered. Ryan walked us through the entire special menu (in Italian) and we had items we probably wouldn't have normally ordered. The food was good, but not what we'd hoped to order. Perhaps third time will be the charm.

Three of us ventured here for restaurant week, while it was not our first time there it had been awhile. Food was phenomenal! Our waiter Noah gave us spot on recommendations for wine pairings and made our visit so much more pleasurable than a typical dinner out. Safe to say we cannot wait to go back again soon! We’ve visited PepeNeros four times and it is always such a treat! Serving staff is wonderfully attentive and the food is out of this world.
