Really solid authentic Greek food. Felt like we were in their home.

I had the Falafel sandwich, and if you like your Greek food with very mild flavors, then this place is for you! I did see them making my Falafel sandwich, but I'm guessing they took the tzatziki or whatever "sauce" they were putting on my sandwich, put it on the pita, then wiped it off with a napkin, leaving just there barest hint of sauce and flavor. My sandwich was dry and bland. Which, when I think of Greek food, is the opposite of what I want.

Decided to try this place based on the reviews. I cannot recommend it. We ordered chicken gyro and gyro sandwich. Not much flavor, and the meat was very dry. It was late afternoon. Maybe an off day? Excellent service.

The service is friendly, well timed, and enjoyable. The atmosphere is warm with proper music, a fireplace, and excellent view. Absolutely enjoyable little restaurant and the lovely Pacific Grove.

I frequent both Petra Restaurant and Petra Cafe. Recently, we took a party of 12 friends to the restaurant and all of our friends thanked us! The Gyro is hands down the BEST I’ve ever eaten and my absolute favorite. Whether you order the kafta or a steak, both are flavorful and so tender. Some kafta can be dry, not this one! Their falafel is the best too, really. Our friends loved the lamb shank and said it was so tender and delicious. Be sure to have tea or a Turkish coffee with the baclava! From the first bite of the baclava you’ll find your tongue floating in a sea of honey. The tea service is beautiful. From writing this review I’m ordering for take out right now! I encourage you to dine in as the experience is really like dining in the chef’s home. I just love it.

Excellent food, friendly staff and prices reasonable!

I do a meet up once a month at this restaurant and the food and service are excellent. This is the perfect setting for our meeting.

I really enjoy meeting and eating here. I enjoy the falafel sandwich with salad; totally yummy. The owners treat you like extended family and the servers are always so nice and professional. They even sometimes surprise us with a treat.

I eat at Petra monthly and have tried most items on the menu. Everything is fantastic. Sammy and his crew never disappoint!

To start i had a salad, the dressing on the salad is the absolute best! And the drink selection and atmosphere was amazing, and such amazing quality food. On top of all that i had the best steak i’ve ever had. unbeatable!

We ordered chicken gyros sandwich with fries, falafel and baklava. Food was good and fresh, though chicken in sandwich didn’t feel like traditional shawarma. Baklava great.

My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant dining experience for lunch at the Petra Restaurant. We chose dishes from the menu specializing in Middle Eastern cuisine. We look forward to returning in the future.

Fantastic food, service, atmosphere! Would eat here again! Me and my husband got the lamb gyros with fries and tried the za’tar appetizer- all delicious and fresh.

Very interesting place. Food is quite tasty and service was very good. Quiet and reserved, really enjoyed the difference in atmosphere here. Waiter was excellent. Worth trying, but don't expect a rushed eating experience. It isn't about getting in and eating the running on to your next event.

The best gyros on the peninsula

The food is very well prepared especially the lamb and rice stuffed grape leaves which are my favourite. I normally just get a couple orders to go if I'm in a rush. I will continually support this fine restaurant. Thank you

Everything is great and reliable, gyro platters , half chicken are my favorites, I do mostly take out but I ate there with my family once and it was calm and good inside to eat there. One of my favorite restaurants in town, great value, I strongly recommend this Mediterranean food

Excellent Greek and Mediterranean food. Prices are on par with what you would expect from the area but the quality is top notch.

We drove from Carmel to have dinner here. Food was delicious made with fresh ingredients and lots of flavor. I had the kebobs, 1 chicken skewer, 1 beef. My wife had the gyros platter. Included side salad. We added a glass of wine. Just what we wanted. We'll definitely go back.

Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere and delicious food. Greek salad, Kefta-kebab and chicken were amazing. The baklava is to die for. Kids were happy, hubs was too. All in all, an amazing experience and we will return.

I would give this place 7 stars -- have been going and being delighted for over 3 decades! The food, the service, the care ... exceptional.

Amazing Mediterranean food just simply the best

I am half Lebanese and know quality Mediteranian food. Despite all the good reviews on this site I am sorry to say this experience does not compare. Very dry gyro meat, fatty, not well seasoned and chewy lamb kabobs, and mushy lamb grape leaves with practically no meat. My wife’s falafel was very dry as well. Yucky across the board. Maybe we had a bad chef day but we will not be back!

Nice place for Mediterranean food

Food quality extremely bad and very expensive ordered one chicken shawarma plate to go when I got home there was only lettuce in the box and dried pitta bread with old and dried chicken never go back again

The cold appetizer veg grape leaf n 3 dips are very good, the meals not as great as the appetizer. The lamb shish kebab too bland and the gyros lam or chicken too dry and the lamb meat have smell... they need to add more server..

Honestly, it's not my style of food, but I've been twice and everyone I've been with has raved about how great the food is.

If I have had better Mediterranean food then I can't remember where or when! Petra is without a doubt the best. The food is delightfully prepared, presented well & tastes delicious. Every taste is as it should be, not overwhelmed with an abundance of spices, but just enough to complement whatever the base component is. For example, the falafels are not too dry nor too moist, & the accompanying tahini does not overpower the main ingredient. Petra is as good as it gets & I highly recommend trying it if you are in the Monterey area.

Best gyro sandwich ever. The meat was thick and succulent and not the thin dry stuff so commonly found. Falafel was also first rate. Very comfy and quite environment with lots of natural light.

Amazing food, super kind owner. Our Girls loved the rice, hummus was creamy and delicious pita sandwiches and chicken kabobs were amazing! Would come back, reminded us of Jordan.

Decent but came here on a recommendation and definitely did not live up the the hype. We were the only ones in there for quite some time and really slow service. Decent if ur in a pinch but wouldn't ever go out of my way for it in the future.

As we sat down to dinner, the server asked the table next to us how their meal was. The lady replied, “It was grand.” I agree. My gyro platter was served with one of the tastiest Greek salads I’d ever eaten. Fresh greens and a bright dressing that I could drink. The gyro meat was tender, but had bits of char on the sides that provide that unmistakeable texture. The rice was subtly flavored and worked well with the other components of the plate. Service with a smile topped off our dinner. Bottom line: the picture of Meryl Streep on the wall says it all... this is a restaurant worthy of stars.

Tasted like my Lebanese grandmother's food- especially the grape leaves with meat. This was my first indoor dining experience since COVID and it was safe and lovely. I wish I lived close enough to get delivery, but it will have to stay a treat for now.

My husband and I shared the Petra Combination Platter and falafel sandwich. The platter had chicken kebab, gyro meat, rice, tabbouleh, dolmas, hummus, and Greek salad. Every single thing was delicious. The hummus was creamy, the meat was flavorful, juicy, and tender. The sandwich had many flavors going on, all wonderful. Everything was packed beautifully and even included utensils and napkins. We drove to the ocean and parked. What a delight to eat this wonderful food while watching the waves roll in.

Beautiful restaurant with wonderful food and service!! I had the mjadara and a greek salad, and it was truly one of the best mediterranean meals I’ve ever had. Hosts were extremely attentive and sweet, definitely going to visit here again and again!!

The food is just so darned good, everything is made from scratch. Surprisingly, my favorite place for a burger. They grind their own meat and make everything to your specifications.
