Not good. My meat/steak tasted metallicy and the broth wasn't hot.

This place has gone to the trenches. The place is find, the food is good but the service is nonexistent when you go. The biggest issue is when you order… WATCH OUT!! They change the prices. The physical menu, grubhub menu and doordash menu are all different prices. Its even different when you call and order for pick up. Thats not right! They’re cheating their customers.

I wanted to support a local Vietnamese business, but this place was quite disappointing. The food was SUPER bad, and the only lady there, who seemed to be the owner, was sweeping the floor around customers while they were eating. There was no waitress, and no one checked on us during our visit. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Have been here many many times and love this place. Great food, great vegetarian options, great service. Definitely recommend to go here. Super fresh food and ingredients and great taste.

Sat down ordered a sweet tea and half sweet/half unsweet tea. We also ordered our food at the same time. The waitress brought us 2 glasses of water as soon as we got in. So far everything was good. 7-8 minutes after placing our drink and food order, we still had not gotten our drinks. Mean while our waitress served a table there food then start stocking the tables. When she finally got to a table by us, I asked her where our drinks were and she said yeah yeah and went and got them. We noticed that the drinks were fountain drinks and there menu said fresh brewed tea. So I said something about it to her saying that what she gave us was not the freshly brewed tea and that's what we wanted. So she left mine and took my husbands to remake it. So I took mine to the counter and explained to the another waiter that I think she misunderstood what we wanted. I proceded to explain to him, when I saw our waitress using the fountain drink machine again for our tea. When she over heard me talking to the other waiter she threw the cup she was making in the sink. Then she turned around and said they don't have any unsweet tea made that if we want it we have to wait 15 minutes. So we said we would wait because we hadn't gotten our food yet. I went and sat at our table waiting for our food and drinks to be finished our waitress was storming around slamming doors talking so loud to people you could hear her across the room. When our drinks were brought out they gave another glass of water a kettle with 2 tea bags in it and my sweet/unsweet tea. I tried mine and it tasted like water. My husband just asked if he could get a glass of just ice for his tea. The waiter that brought it was nice and accommodating. He was also the one that brought our food. When we went to check out we still had the waiter that took over to cash us out. But our original waitress never came back to fix anything. All she did after I said something was walking around slamming stuff, took some food out to other people, and cash out a few people. I think I made her mad and she made the other server take care of us. If anyone ever gets that lady, ask for another server, cause she has no business in the restaurant business when she acts like that.

Service was not great, my friend wasn't given glass of water even asked several times. They are busier filling door dash orders than attending to the handful of customers in the restaurant. Even when I paid at the counter afterwards, an odd comment was made to me in Vietnamese- the man (walks around in a beret) said to give tip in cash so it doesn't go to the owner. Not sure what's going on there, but I thought that was a tad crass. Ambiance is gloomy, too dark and heavy decor (they try to give this pagoda feel). Dated. But how is the food? The Bun Dac Biet (special vermicelli with 3 skewers of grilled pork, chicken and beef) is not bad. Just lacked veggies and peanuts!!!! My friends ordered the Pho #4 (steak, flank, brisket) - both took a while to come out and didn't have the same temp of meat - one seemed overcooked like it was from the bottom of the pot simmering for hours. Food would be a solid 3.

Nestled in Norfolk is a quiet atmosphere with great food. I wouldn’t recommend takeout or uber eats but who orders soup to go or deliver ??? Come sit down and grab a delicious bite of some of the best Pho in VA. Great appetizers, fast customer service and food comes out quick. I have been coming here for months and it never disappoints.

Food was good. No waitresses except one lady I assume to be the owner because she bossed around very rudely. Had to order at the counter, paid there too eventually :/ Mind you, I ate inside and I’m ~guessing~ “someone” is money hungry because as I ordered to the very kind (and stressed) guy at the counter asked what size I would like… the (guessing) the owner said “Large! It’s takeout!!” but I was right there ordering the food because no one took my order when I sat down… in which was her fault. I pressed for steamed bean sprouts as I’m pregnant and when she gave me my food, she was sarcastic and didn’t check up on me but for 2 seconds just once. When I went to pay, it wasn’t the same price on the menu and the guy took a while to change the price. He was very kind, while she bothered him here and there, while I was paying at the counter. Will never go here again or even order this for delivery, this owner is horrible, rude, and quite honestly I’ve never been treated with such disrespect. Plain money hungry. I won’t even add any photos of the food.

Everything was fine till we order. The waiter (I believe the owner) took our order, a combination pho, a chicken vermicelli, a combination rice plate, a fired chicken over rice, 2 egg rolls, and a to go Thai tea with boba requested in to go cup. He requested to pay right away which was fine and I gave him the card. The bill was $59 something so I paid him, my bank notified me the charge. I didn’t pay attention on the bill to realize something was wrong. 5 minutes latter, he came back and said it did not go through which I show him my bank that the charge already took place. The lady behind the counter (which I believe his wife) kept refusing it that they didn’t charge regardless of what I was showing them the transaction. Well, I said ok, I would pay again and would dispute if they charged me twice. They came back with another check for $79 something (at that moment I realized it was something wrong with the bill earlier). It seemed like they made a mistake on the first check, instead of telling us their mistake and asking us to fix the bill, they acted like the transaction didn’t go through and us/our card were the problem. That was not all. The Thai tea wasn’t in to go cup. Portion for the rice plates were little with a tiny pork (maybe the pork were too expensive for them? ). The 2 egg rolls never came. When we almost finished our food and asked for the egg rolls, the waiter apologized and asked the kitchen to give it to us, but then his wife insisted that I had not ordered/paid for it, which I did order and the waiter did confirmed, but his wife was mad and kept insisting about the egg rolls. I told her I would pay for it. But to be honest, they were so messed up and really if I were her I would just give it to the customer as courtesy since they made the mistake. But they were really greedy insisting it. Bad business, bad customer service. I gave them $6 for the egg rolls on the way out and surprisingly his wife said “$5 is good enough”. What? You really wanted it so badly, so when I gave you $6 why you only take $5????? Keep that extra $1 so you can feel better making more profit. Bad service! Shame on you, shame on your business! Update: the transactions did post. I had to file a dispute. Pho 79 sucker.

I recently called this restaurant because I came in back in February and was traveling for business. I misplaced the receipt that I needed to expense my meal. When I called and spoke to the manager explaining why I was calling, he said sorry and hung up on me. Confused, I called back again thinking maybe I was disconnected. I explained again why I was calling and that someone had hung up when I called earlier. They hung up on me again and when I tried to call back again a couple times they did not pick up. This is extremely infuriating as I was a paying customer and I just needed a copy of my receipt. I have never been treated with such rudeness, disrespect and disregard. No establishment has ever made me feel so helpless when I did absolutely nothing to deserve that treatment. I was curteous, and polite and was met with utter rudeness. I am honestly in disbelief. Wow!

Less than a month ago my husband and I agreed to try Pho 79 via food delivery and I ordered one of their ramen bowls, spare ribs, pork chip and other foods pictured. Due to the taste the spare ribs was the only food that I enjoyed the taste of and the pork chop I ordered was missed in my food delivery. To be fair a money refund was made to me for the pork chop missing in my order though if I ever try this place again it would be for dine in only.

Dim and busted menus, but the food and quick turn around was more than I could ask for. Get this food if you're sick, it'll help tremendously and it tastes great too.

The food is pretty good, I’ve tried the beef pho and beef skewers over rice, both had good flavoring. The portion is big and comes with a lot of meat. The establishment is very understaffed, so I took that into account for the unfriendly service from the owners/workers. The menu prices also do not match what you are charged when you look at the receipt breakdown. I tried to substitute white rice for fried rice, on the menu it says rice substitutions are an addition $3.75, however the owner was not understanding my request, got upset and let someone else take my order only to say that it isn’t an option to substitute rice. If you’re willing to look past the service, I would say the food is a 4/5.

Service was pretty laid back, but the pho was delicious and filling

Had a reservation scheduled for a dinner for 4 last night, but when my coworkers and I walked in, we were immediately asked to leave by an employee, because they closed the restaurant for a Private event. I would have appreciated a call or notification that they closed early that night, but they had not made an effort to do so. We wasted time, effort, and gas money driving to this restaurant only for this to happen. I understand if a serious event was the cause of the closure, but regardless no attempt to notify us was made. Will not be coming back.

Waiter was not acknowledging us, didn’t check on our table, was on his phone, and my cup was empty longer than 20 mins. When finally asked for a refill the waiter coughed in his hand walking towards me. Very unprofessional and very nasty dealing with other people food. 1/27/24 6:16pm

100% the best Pho I have ever eaten. If I lived closer, I would be here every weekend. We were a party of three, and our bill was about $60.

It was my first time here when I went. There were two people behind the counter and neither one of them greeted me when I walked in. I did not feel welcomed. The food was great but the service was pretty much non-existent.

This place has great food, I couldnt even finish my meal! I got a rice based chicken dish. Plus the staff was very friendly

Good was good. Service was fast we went during lunch hours on a Monday so it’s safe to say it was good service during a busy hour.

Great little spot to get a great bahn mi sandwich. I got the marinated grilled beef. I’ve been craving a good bahn mi and this one hit the spot. I’m not sure if they make the bread in-house, but it paired nicely with the carrots, cilantro, and beef. The server was polite and the service was fast. There was a good group of people there really close to closing, which shows how quick the service was. Great find in Norfolk!

Edit: I went again recently and the place seemed significantly better. I’d give it more then 5 stars if possible. It could of been an off day when I went before. everything was clean ( including the spoons ) sever was again very kind and attentive. I just wanted to up my star review to 5 - I also added new photos Great food and the server was very kind. I feel bad for him thought because it seemed as if he was doing everything but cooking on his own. getting drinks, orders, online orders, phone calls, and bringing the food from the kitchen to the table ( he was the only person in the entire dining room). He did them all perfectly but it made are stay here longer because of how much was on his plate. none of which is his fault. Also the chopsticks & soup spoons sitting at the table together is kinda gross. Every spoon I picked up was dirty and the chopsticks had stuff on the bottom of them. At least put them into the container upside down to keep them cleaner. The food was great, hot, and fresh 10/10.

They stop taking customers anywhere from an hour to two hours before their listed close times. Foods great, but they are pretty garbage to their customers

First time to this place and they absolutely have authentic Viet dishes!! We got a big pho #8 ($15.99) and noodle salad with grilled chicken and pork (~$17). There's a little bit of wait time but I am sure all of these dishes are freshly made! They give me so much beef in my pho and the skewers for the salad dish also have big chunks of meat. Both dishes have a large volume of food and they are not cheap on their stuff!! The meat is well seasoned just like how authentic it's supposed to be.

Was the best pho next to the very first place i tried it in maryland.

No AC. Soggy noodles. Have to ask twice for food. $35 for one bowl of soup and spring rolls.

If you have a food allergy, DON'T ORDER FROM HERE!! They used to provide food that was listed ON THEIR MENU - Now, whenever you order with a specific food allergy, be sure you have your epi-pen, your affairs in order, 911 on speed dial, and a DNR on file. The amount of times I've given this establishment the benefit of the doubt, my trust, and money is more times than an abusive boyfriend deserves another chance. And just like one, their carelessness came close to hospitalizing me. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!

At Pho 79 in Ghent — How BOLD of you to blow your nose in front of me and then go and get my food and then when I address what you just did you say you don’t remember..WOW…I said yes you do.I’m not trying to get this restaurant a bad reputation but when your serving staff (tall African American gentleman) does this IN FRONT of people he should be let go. PERIOD..

The staff here is awesome! Pho is good and we were pleasantly surprised that the milk tea here is better than most of the specialty tea places in the area. Great portions and good prices was a big plus too. Thanks guys :)

Great food. Really fresh and came out quickly. The pho broth is delicious and the amount of meat they put in the pho is staggering. I had to take one star away for atmosphere. There were 3 different sources of music competing with each other. It got annoying quickly.

Focusing on the food itself, right from the very beginning it was poor. The water had a foul taste to it - I even asked for a new cup of water and it tasted the exact same. For the pho, the noodles tasted frozen, which was able to be masked when eating it with the meat. The onions were not cut all the way so it came as a clump that I had to separate myself - this did not happen to only me. The service wasn't bad. When I visited there was only one server and several other parties dining in. Considering this, they did the best they could in serving everyone. Parking is available in a tight lot behind the restaurant as well as the Aldi's across, which is a short walk.

I ordered take out from here and got two C7s that came out to 46.13 and they charged me an extra 20 dollars for im not sure what. I went in to try to get the situation solved the guy in the front told me their prices recently were raised which i told him that didn’t make sense because i remembered seeing 46 something then had another person ring in the two C7 and it came out to 46.13 not 68.13. i showed them my bank statement and they told me that there is absolutely nothing they could do. definitely be careful when coming to this establishment. i will never be returning and definitely don’t recommend unless you’re paying cash for they won’t randomly charge you more for no reason when you leave.

My boyfriend and I came here on Saturday. When we first walked in, the guy didn’t greet us and just told us to grab a table. Have been to different Pho restaurants and I can tell you they walk you to a seat and give you the menu. The table we sat on was so dirty we had to clean it ourselves. There were other customers there and wasn’t attended to. He kept watching videos on his phone and was laughing hysterically. Bad customer service right there. Then the pho noodles was too soft. And it just tasted different from the pho noodles I’m used to. The noodles wasn’t as white as the ones I normally eat and the texture of it wasn’t just it. I had to swallow so I won’t chew since it was too soft. My boyfriend couldn’t even eat his because of how soft it was.

DON'T TRUST THE MENU PRICE--THE FOOD IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE MENU SAYS! My only issue with this location is that the price on the menu is NOT the price that is charged, and no one told us that this would be the case. I've been going here occasionally since college (late 2010s), and I want this place to do well, especially since the servers were good and the food was same as always, but I had to post about this. :( I hope this location realizes that this is illegal. 😬

Decent Pho place. I’ve had better but than I’m from San Diego. If you’re in the area and want a quick and good pho, for sure this place’s got you covered.

I order from this place a decent amount but I’m really disappointed and probably won’t order again after tonight. I placed an order for pick up and when I was picking up I heard “spring rolls…. They can just get a refund” and the two employees laughed. They were packaging other orders so I didn’t think anything of it for my personal order until I got home. Not only did they not include my spring rolls but they also gave me the wrong noodle type with my order, AND they included jalapeños, which I requested not to have due to an allergy. I didn’t get my whole order and of the things I did get I can’t really eat anything but the broth. By the time I realized things were wrong, they were closed so I couldn’t go to them to have it rectified. Uber eats wont refund me the full amount so I’m screwed out of $25 and unable to eat due to their carelessness. Update: I decided to give them another go because they’re the only place near me and as long as I only order spring rolls for pickup things have been good. If I want pho I’ll go somewhere else now because accurate orders are worth an extra few minutes but tbh their spring rolls here are really good and it’s incredibly convenient. I bumped my review up a star because I was anxious about picking up another order after leaving the review and worried they’d recognize me and be rude but they were very nice despite it all.

Good pho place. Decent eggrolls. Super long wait. This place seems to always have staffing issues. They never have enough people working here which results in: 1) long wait times before you get your drink/order in/get your food, 2) not picking up the phone, 3) dirty tables that doesn't get cleaned. I've had an experience when from the time we sat down to getting our food was easily over an hour. It's not the servers fault, they simply don't have enough people. Price of their pho is pricier than other places, but they give you a lot of meat. So to me, it was worth the price. It's good food, but terrible service. Sometimes it's one person running the front of store.

This place used to be ok. Not great, but ok. There prices have gone up, the quality had gone down and the service is beyond atrocious. Count on anything taking a minimum of 45 minutes. I paid for a sandwich the other day - told them I had a meeting in 35 minutes ("no problem... 10 minutes"). Never saw the sandwich because I waited so long I eventually just had to walk out empty handed to be five minutes late to my meeting. No concern on their part. Been hundreds of times with the family, last few months it has been so slow I was becoming least of a fan, but I'm done. I'll go the extra ten minutes to get to Saigon One... better food, better prices and service fast enough to make up for the extra driving. So long Pho 79, won't miss you much.

I got a shrimp pho to go last night and about half of the shrimp were not deveined. This is the first time I’ve had this happen here so maybe they just missed them when they were cleaning. The pho was delicious as always though!

This place is an embarrassment to Vietnamese food. I ordered fried rice, shouldn't be hard right.. it came out not fried but like fresh out of a rice cooker thrown with some veggies 😂 don't say I didn't warn you. Downloading games on the TV to avoid serving customers and music is weird as hell. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Respectable pho place with an ample amount of meat. The broth is pretty basic but there’s a decent amount of flavor in it. Loved the tripe as most places don’t serve it anymore. The Vietnamese coffee was nice and strong. The bean sprouts could have been fresher. Overall this pho gets the job done.

Have to say this place went downhill. First, they remove the all the curries dishes. Their banh mi sandwiches bread are not the baguette that is used in Vietnamese sandwiches and recently they due away with the Bun Bo Hue soup as well. What the hell guys!!!! **Just this location**

Great place for a date or a small outing. I personally don't recommend taking a whole family as the food gets expensive quick. Time management and quality is spot on. Food taste lovely and yes they have squid! If you are debating on Pho then this is the place to go.

A vegan friend of mine recommended this place and we decided to give it a try. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I'm very vegan friendly. I've never had pho before either so this was definitely a new experience for me. Overall, the food was pretty good and I felt like I was eating a healthy meal! The service was phenomenal and the prices were very reasonable! I would try this place again!

we got the bun bo hue and pho with tripe, tendon, and flank steak. not pictured, but also got the spring rolls. both could use an extra punch of anise and pepper in the broth personally, but still delicious! i would come back for more.

I will admit that Pho has good noodles. But their price compared to other Pho restaurants are insane. I also have been waiting well over half an hour for my food and It is still not here. I am definitely never coming back to this establishment. I’ll drive the longer distance to a better one.

Don't bother trying to call !!!! They will hang up on you or just take the phone off the hook. They make u order through dore dash even for pick up orders.

This is just about the best Phõ you can get in tidewater. I can't think offhand, of any that's better. This is the place that taught me 20 years ago to love Sriracha.

Let me start this review by saying I've been coming to this restaurant for atleast the last 3 years. And atleast once a week on top of that. So I was pretty devastated when I was eating an order of the Shrimp Pho, ANKLE DEEP, in the bowl when I noticed some brown dots on my noodles. And i want to emphasize brown bc that's what drew my eye bc most seasoning, such as pepper, are around that size but black. So I looked closer and low and behold the brown spect had antenna's that were MOVING. And this alarmed me for multiple reasonS: ONE, i checked the broth to make sure there was nothing in it before i boiled it. Additionally with me boiling it the bugs shouldn't have been still moving. So my assumption was that they were in the noodles or the veggie. I called the place to file a complaint and I explained to the young lady (cashier) the situation and she placed the phone down to speak to the manager. Upon her return she informed me that the manager wasn't able to come to the phone now but was curious to know what time I placed my order. I let her know the time but I was disappointed to realize she didn't ask any further details. She informed me I could get a remake per the manager but after that I event I had to politely decline. She said she understood but the manager wasn't able to come to the phone and that she couldn't remedy the situation without the managers guidance. I let her know I was disappointed in that fact and really just wanted a refund and to let the restaurant aware since it was in the food they were currently serving. So... those are the facts. I rather not post the pictures since it is was pretty gross. But just tread lightly.

So I get a Bánh Mì Heo Nuóng a 2 Spring rolls. The send me a sandwich with literally almost no meat in the sandwich with No mayo. So a super dehydrated sandwich and 2 spring rolls with the wrong dripping sauce, they gave me some strong gochujang sauce instead of the peanut sauce. That sauce didn't even come in no order, they ran out and gave me some horrible,loud tasting sauce. Then charged be almost $20 for this, never again.

Best soup ever. HAD TO GO BACK A SECOND DAY. That good. Not 5 stars because a bowl of soup is a little pricey. Specialty drinks are great but again. Can easially spend a 20 for a lunch. But again it is very good.

Food is decent, but be careful of their deceptive practices. I went to have dinner with my family and my son's friend (party of 5), and we ordered 2 small bowls, 2 large bowls and a bowl of vermicelli. They brought out 3 small bowls and when I told them it was wrong, the lady said she was sorry and they would bring out a large bowl (which they did). I told them the lady to take back the small bowl as it was not what I ordered. She said that it wasn't like they would be able to sell it so keep it at no charge. After the meal, I gave my son my credit card to pay for the meal and noticed that they charged us for the bowl. Not wanting to make a scene, I left. However, I will never be going back to this place again. If they are deceptive in business practices, what else are they capable of?

My go to. Of the hundreds of meals I’ve eaten here, very few have been below excellent. I think about this place constantly and get angry as I finish the meal, knowing more than a large bowl is gluttonous. Glad they brought beer back. Good people. Hard to rate less than 5. The food is always good, very consistent. They're good at handling volume. Good management & great cooks. I'm mostly comparing to other Pho 79. My personal favorite!

The food was tasty however our server seemed to have a difficult time knowing the menu, refilling drinks, and just overall attentiveness. Definitely try the lemongrass grilled chicken skewers.

So my son had just had heart surgery and was hungry. So I ordered chicken pho for him. When it came it had no chicken so went to the restaurant and she told me I ordered the one without meat now of course told her it gave me a option of meats. I choose chicken. She tells me that was for the type of broth I said it's says meat choices not broth. They would not correct the mistake and told me this happens all the time with DoorDash orders. I had to spend more money to buy another soup. When I told her I order from them at least 2 times a week and will never order again. She told me that was fine. So I guess they don’t need or want my money. If you want EXCELLENT PHO AND AMAZING SERVICE GO TO SAIGON 1 Cause even if you make a mistake and ordered the wrong thing SAIGON 1 will fix it Pho 79 stop being so greedy for money that you can't make a repeat customer happy. DANG ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS GIVE ME THE CHICKEN

8 Mar 22 Update: Still love this place, but they need to update their menu to reflect the fact they do not serve hot Vietnamese coffee even though the menu says this. They could also use more staff to wait and clean the tables. This place has amazing Pho and the menu is very robust. A friend of mine recommended it and it will be my go-to for Pho. The broth is legit, the rice paper spring rolls are fantastic, and they even have traditional Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk (iced or hot).

This is a great spot for pho and there are a ton of boba tea options. I tried the vegetarian pho and the vanilla boba tea. Both were great but I especially loved the frozen boba tea! I’ve never had boba tea that is like a milkshake consistency but it was such a treat

I love their beef steak with rice. Reasonable price and friendly service.

I’ve been coming here for almost 10 years. And I can’t get enough. The best vegan pho I’ve ever had. Bravo!!!

Pho not very good. Flavor leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Rice wraps are good but are served with Hoisin sauce instead of real peanut sauce. We're going to get some dessert elsewhere to get the taste out of our mouths.

This place is amazing!! I LOVE their bubble tea! I’ve tried so many after and nothing beats the bubble tea from this place!! Their service is so fast, and Pho is fantastic as well! 100% recommend!!!

Delicious food & kind professional workers. We always get pho (8. Pho Nam, Gân, Sách) and lemongrass marinated chicken here 10/10!!! (Also the Thai iced tea is delicious!!!)

My favorite Pho place. I go there when I'm sick, when I'm craving pho, their spring rolls are fantastic not a single complaint
