I came with a good friend, looking to try something new. We then decided on simple fries for the appetizer along with fried wontons. The fries were great, good amount of salt and crisp. The fried wontons were perfectly golden crispy and came with a sweet chili sauce. The wontons were great and gave us hope until our pho quickly arrived. We both decided to order the shrimp noodle soup/ Phở Tôm. It came hot and steamy which excited us, but the smell did not. It smelled of onions, which you can see visibly in the picture. After observing we both took a taste of the noodles and immediately reached for the sauces on the table to better it. After adding more sauces on sauces, we were sure that it just wasn’t meant for us. The pho was very displeasing and all we could taste were the onions. Regardless the service was great and nice.Unfortunately we will not be returning. Thanks for reading!☺️

My cousin and I both had P9 Seafood Noodle Soup but we subbed the beef broth for chicken but we added the spicy sauce that's on every table 🤤 it was to die for! We also had appetizers A2 Traditional Spring rolls and the A8 crab Rangoons, if I lived in VA I'd be here twice a week. The peanut sauce with A2 is the way to go but it worked with the seafood sauce on the table as well. I only with the crab rangoons were a bit bigger, I could eat them all day. Service was quick, the staff was friendly and checked on us frequently. Would definitely come back.

My husband and I have visited Vietnam and both agreed the food here at Pho 83 is top tier and authentic! I was recommended this place and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was clean and inviting. The staff was attentive but let us have our space and did not make us feel rushed to eat or pay. 10/10 recommend! We will definitely be back!!

Visiting the area from Maryland, where there are MANY pho restaurants. This might have been the best pho I’ve had in recent memory. The meats were tender and everything came out fast and delicious. Will definitely be back next time I’m in town!! The triple layer coffee was awesome too. Thanks for everything!

Absolutely delicious pho. Either my girlfriend and I come here a lot or the wait staff has a great memory. They remembered the order we had 2 months ago, and asked if we wanted it again. Great service. Update: hadn't been in a while and decided to go back. The food hasn't changed at all and was just as delicious as always. The service was still great. Highly recommend this place if you like Pho.

I'm a girl and wanted a big bowl of Vietnamese noodles. I obviously didn't eat enough. I'm not fat either. It's just that the portion was too small and I had diarrhea after eating. I don't know if it's the noodles or their chili sauce. It's terrible.

This is a cute spot with awesome Viet staples. The pho is perfect but the sleeper hit is the C1 pork chop and rice. Our server Crystal was very helpful and nice!

Glad to find a pho place in the area. Recently moved to this area and was badly missing Vietnamese food. The drinks (soft drinks ) are great and so is the food ! The broth of the pho was not run down . This is going to be my go to spot for comfort food as long as I am in the area.

Great little Vietnamese place. Offering dishes from the north, and south, we loved it! Highly recommend Bún Thịt Nướng và Cơm Sườn Bì Chả. We will be back if we are ever in the area!

When I was studying at CNU, I would often forget to eat. Ordering pho was a cheap and healthy way to perk me up. Out of all the places nearby, this one is my favorite because the broth tastes more savory. Pho 83 helped me keep myself alive and healthy, especially during COVID. Thank you for the good eats throughout my college career!

Since the new management, Pho is not as good as before. tastes more MSG. less beef broth flavor.

Bahn mi is really good for the price. Pho broth is basic / middle of the road. You don't taste the anise or other floral components too much. This is a basic lunch spot that is fast and good for the price. Nothing fancy but it doesn't need it.

Update: The pho here is great. Just as good if not better than most of the reputable spots you can find in RVA or Hampton/NN. What takes this place to the next level are the extra dimensions you can find in the flavors. Summer rolls are so good here. They're pricier at 7 bucks but I find it worth it. The nice char on the grilled meat they wrap inside and the half fried roll just delights the taste buds. The vermicelli bowl with Shrimp, Beef, and Chicken was ballin' too. Same great char on the meats. Pretty presentation. The grilled beef had the flavor of galbi/short rib with Korean-style marinade. It hit the spot. Wow this is the spot for pho in Newport News/Hampton. So good! Pho Tai and Bún Chả Giò. Clean interior, nice aesthetic, good table layout for comfortable and casual eating. Easy in and out. Clean bathroom. What more can you ask for!

When I walked in , I was told what table to sit at. Near cash register and bathroom. I asked to sit somewhere else. I was told to sit there. There were plenty of tables. We left.

As a Viet, this is my go to. Food is fast, I'm in and out within 20 minutes. Soup is always hot. Love it!

my favorite restaurant in newport news. the food is EXCELLENT. i ordered a C2 and i always clean my plate afterwards. the food can convince me to eat all my vegetables, and i dont even like cucumber. they played doja cat which was nice. and dont even get me started on the taro boba. This has been my favorite spot for pho and more for the last 2 and a half years. the service is amazing, the food is the best in the city. I am moving an hour away soon but I will still make the trip to come up and eat here when I can. Absolutely amazing restaurant

Fantastic vegetarian Banhmi! The service was quick and great. The restaurant is clearly busy and popular as there were a ton of orders coming in.

I came in today for the first time. It was absolutely phenomenal. I'm from Richmond VA and this is the best Vietnamese food I have had outside there. Everything was spot on. I got the grilled beef. Compliments to whoever prepared it.

What happened 😕 Ive been going here for years. I walked in last time and the whole place changed. The pho was not as hot as it used to be and didnt taste the same. My favorite bowl is no longer on the new menu. The service was ok, the food was decent but not near as good as it used to be. I guess good things dont last forever but im gona give it one more try.

The best in the area! Cali pho is way better but we are in Hampton, Virginia…. So it’s the best in the area. The other pho places sucks and made for non-vietnamese people. This place is somewhat made authentic

Not a ton of space, but the pho and banh mis are very good and reasonably priced. Plus the food is ready very quickly, so this is an option if you're on your lunch break.

Come for the review. But I asked a question, guess the waitress is not willing to help. I did not have a chance to eat there. Disappointed

UPDATE: They claimed they couldn’t trace or fine my specific order on transactions. Beware of this business, they steal!!! Always ask for a receipt and use cash or credit cards. This is theft. The nerve of this restaurant! I have ordered pick up a hand full of times from them and just recently got over charged as if someone put in a tip on my card with no permission! I found out by looking at my charges and thank goodness I used a credit card. Thieves. I will not returning here.

Great Pho, I come here often over the Pho79s as they are charging sushi restaurant prices for an inexpensive meal back in Vietnam. Chili oil and sriracha are always available at every table. But yes only issue which is out of their control is the bar next door with bikers and homeless sitting outside of the liquor store.

Best Phô I’ve had in years! Phở Đặc Biệt 83 (Tái Nạm Gầu Gân Sách) - House special phở with soft-cooked beef tendon, tripe, thin-sliced flank, fatty brisket, and eye round steak.

Door says it takes tap to pay and when you call in order no one says that anything is not working. Just to come all the way here and not be able to pick up your food because your not carrying cash.

This is my husband and I'd go-to pho spot. The food has never been less than delicious, and the prices are reasonable. The big factor is the service. They are so kind and friendly, and very willing to accommodate whatever you may need.

Food and service were great! My server was really friendly. The only ding is her being an unprofessional gossips. She would discuss other customers (even ones who were present but waiting for togo) negatively. She even discussed how other adults/children have misbehaved or were really dirty to another family who was eating. That makes me uncomfortable to go back if she’s just going to gossip about my presence if I were to ever “mess up” as a customer.

Dude this place is the thing! The pho is delicious, portions are great, the sauce is spicy AF and the service is quick. The price is fair and everything is sparkling clean! My go to for chicken soup and 🧋 boba tea!

New owners changed a lot of things. It's OKAY if your new but they lost a lot of long time customers due to the changes. Highly recommend reaching out to last owner for recipes to help business. My family has eaten there twice now since the change and both times we were unhappy with the soup. I sincerely hope the new owners are successful but again in all honesty they could greatly benefit by learning how to make the food the way the original Pho 83 made theirs, that is why their shop was successful.

Gf and I were in the area due to a wedding decided to look for a good pho spot. Was not disappointed, seriously good pho. I got a large chicken pho; the broth is delicious, and the portions are great! If I’m ever back in that area I’ll be back!

We have been coming here for over 10 years and it was the best pho in town. Maybe because the owner and chef changed, it was the worst pho I've ever eaten. The noodles were all soggy and the soup tasted like water and the service was very unfriendly.

So I've been looking for a Pho restaurant here in VA that satisfies the craving and this place hits the spot! I just want to add that all this food came out to $39 dollars and it was DELICIOUS! Upon walking in, the restaurant was clean and it had a good amount of seating. There was an older gentleman that greeted us and we were allowed to choose our own seating. The customer service was outstanding here. The older gentleman was so friendly and very attentive. He happily gave us time to look over the menu and came as soon as he saw us put our menus down to place our order. He delivered our food with such pride and a huge smile on his face, I cannot express how lovely it was to be taken care of by someone so kind and happy. He truly put a smile on my face! The broth is amazing, they had a well made chili oil on the table, and all the veggies and herbs that came with the pho were fresh and tasty! It was a nice sized portion, even though it was a small I was definitely satisfied! The appetizers were fresh, and the crab rangoons were so good. It wasn't just cream cheese, there were definitely extra ingredients to give it a different flavor and we loved it! The rocket shrimps were nice too, my husband thought it was a little too much breading, but the flavor was on point. My husband enjoyed his vermicelli dish, there were lots of veggies and the sauce that came with it was awesome. I highly recommend this place to try out! I've been looking for a really good pho restaurant since moving to VA from HI - and this place is a winner!

Under new management and theyve absolutely ruined the place. If you liked the old restaurant dont go. They are charging a dollar for tiny sauces, their food is lower quality, their whole system is a mess. Its not worth it.

Amazing food! but area was questionable. When we had dinner there, there was a group of bikers/4 wheelers going extremely fast around the tiny parking lot.

Thanks to my daughter’s love for noodles, We’ve gone to every pho restaurant in Newport News just to try out each one. We now exclusively eat at Pho 83. Their broth is THE BEST. We refuse to eat anywhere but here. The restaurant is small which gives it a homelike feel and The staff are ALWAYS on point when it comes to serving the customers. Pho 83 hands down has the best flavor than any Pho restaurant we have tried.

I moved to NYC then DC and I've tried at least 10 other pho places and not a single one has even tried to give this place a run for its money. I'm a huge summer roll fan and I've never gotten one that's even a little bit chewy. They're always immaculate, and the peanut sauce is the best I've ever found. Do yourself a favor and try the summer rolls for me until I get back. Keep up the good work ❤️ P.s. amazing fries too which I wouldn't have expected.

This place is great. The food is always exquisite, the service is genuinely good ... the people who work there make the experience very pleasant. My husband and I visit this place regularly and on each visit we felt very well received. The prices are great too.

This hidden gem is the place to be for good pho. The portions are solid, the taste is excellent and their service is on point. The price is great too, for two people, you can get a filling meal, an appetizer and drinks for around $30. That is a steal for how great this food is!

Great soups I had the p4 (phở with meatball and eye round steak.) and my wife had the h1 (bún bò spicy beef with noodle.), and we loved the grilled beef my daughter ordered.

The food is perfection, and affordable at the same time. You won't find a nicer owner or staff in any restaurant. They're so very welcoming.

Very authentic and fresh Pho with generous portion for a low price. My favorite is P12, which comes with brisket, tendon and round eye steak. I always get the Vietnamese coffee too, which is roasty and comes with condensed milk. The setting of the coffee is done right too, which is fun to watch the coffee drips into the glass. The egg rolls are crunchy and hot, and the spring rolls are fresh and yummy. I live in VB but I come all the way here to eat because they have the best Pho that I've ever had in Hampton Roads. The staff are friendly too. I try to come here once a month since I live far but sometimes I just have this crave of a bowl of good Pho I had to come here more than once a month!

I get the Vietnamese Iced coffee and its definitely good. If you are a iced coffee lover try this. I'm not the one who tries things outside of my normal foods but this is great. 1 cup is all you need. The atmosphere here is very chill and low key. ☺

The broth is what makes pho and the broth here is really good. They also do a great job packaging pho for take out. For those who can't have red meat they have a chicken pho that is pretty good.

Very authentic place with friendly staff! They do the vietnamese coffee in a proper way, and I like their pandan milk too. I got a beef pho with rare beef, which was piping hot and flavorful.

Place was clean and the P15 was delicious. I stumbled upon this gem after I left Food Lion and I'm glad I did. Will be a repeat customer.
