Somewhat of disappointment. My seafood pasta sauce was too strong on basil and too oily. Also, not much seafood. Husband's hogfish was overcooked at $45 for the entre, kind of unacceptable.

Pinpoint is our go-to restaurant for special occasions and when we want to feel pampered. Their menu changes daily, based on what’s available locally, and we’ve never been disappointed. Great wine list as well. But it’s the service that puts Pinpoint over the top. Last night we celebrated our anniversary with them and from the minute we arrived, we were treated as special guests. Definitely our favorite restaurant in Wilmington.

After researching menus in downtown Wilmington, the Pinpoint won our reservation due to the dedication to local, seasonal sourcing. From the warm greeting we received at entry to the professionalism of Ryan and the supporting servers the service and atmosphere was top notch. Our cilantro margarita was a fantastic, original way to start our culinary journey! The Spring pea hummus was delicate and well balanced with salty feta and bright pickled vegetables. Our beef tartar was an outstanding dish ! The beef was incredibly tender and the addition of supporting flavors like pickled fennel and black garlic ailoi really heightened the rich protein. The real sleeper hit of the night was the bbq lions mane mushroom! Peach bbq sauce on "pulled" smoked lions mane with roasted multi color carrots, baked beans, pickled green cherry tomatoes, and cornbread came together to create a showstopper vegetable main course. I can't wait to visit again and see what the chef creates with the best seasonal local ingredients available in the area!

I love this place so. Let me count the ways... I love the menu. I love the wine list. I really love the cocktails. I love the deserts. I love how you can have a terrific meal AND your kids can eat well too. The service is AMAZING and that's hard to come by these days.v These men and women are consummate professionals and a hot to be around. I don't think it's possible to have anything less than a brilliant experience here. We moved away 2 years ago and still drive 5 hours just for dinner.

NARY A PINPOINT OF DELICIOUSNESS!!!!!!! Our dinner on Mother’s Day at Pinpoint was disappointing, to say the least. We had called earlier in the day to ask if we could add 1 diner to our reservation and were told that it would not be possible d/t the lack of space in the restaurant. When we arrived, there were only 3 tables with diners. The restaurant gradually filled up during the time we were there but was never at more than 50% capacity. Aside from the lack of diners, there was ample room at our table for another person. After we ordered our meal, our waiter returned to the table to tell us that they were out of grouper and, again, 3 minutes later returned to inform us that they were out of lamb. The drinks were 10 minutes in coming to the table, the bread(with scant pats of butter) arrived as we were finishing our drinks(yes, waitperson, it would have been nice to have our bread with our drinks). We ordered oysters as a starter and several of them were the size of a large pea making it almost impossible to extract the meat from the shell(It was hard not to compare them to the incredible oysters we had had 2 nights earlier at Seabird restaurant right across the street). The oyster forks were brought to our table AFTER we had finished our oysters. We also ordered the beef tartare and instead of a lusty red it was gray and mixed with ingredients that totally masked the taste of the beef. Needless to say, we did not finish it. The entrees were passable but nothing to write home about. All, in all, a very disappointing evening. The service was sloppy, one of the waitresses had to keep going outside with her phone to take calls for take out. As we were waiting for our bill, we heard a group, as they were leaving, asserting that they would never come back. Our sentiments exactly!

My wife and I stopped by PinPoint after leaving the Shuckin Shack. We were looking for a little more food and some wine. We were met by James, the bartender, and he was very nice. He let us taste a couple of different wines before making our selections. He also informed us that since the place was not that busy that the kitchen would be shutting down soon so if we wanted some food, we should let them know soon. We ordered the Spring Pea Hummus which was very good. It came with freshly grilled bread and when we were running short, they offered to bring us more right from the oven which was very nice. Overall, a nice evening experience at PinPoint. We would definitely visit again, perhaps for dinner next time.

Still a wonderful experience. Called and left a message same day requesting a change from party of 3 to party of 5. PinPoint called back that same afternoon and accommodated the change in party size. Service is always pleasant. Great local oysters, the hamachi crudo was delicious, as was the pork belly. Fried chicken in corn flour (gluten free as a result!) gave my wife and daughter their first real fried chicken in quite some time. The shrimp and grits were creamy and perfectly cooked. The berkshire pork chop was a nice alternative. Great selection of wine and when they didn't have a second bottle of the Chardonnay were prepared with an alternative selection that was excellent.

This is a strange review. Why? The overall rating is higher than the individual segment. Why? The beef tartare! The STAR of the night. The lemon puree brightened the dish and married the flavors of the pickled fennel, black garlic aioli, capers, and smoked trout roe. The beet tartare was also a treat. The candied pecans played well with dill sour cream and apple vinaigrette the mustard and capers brought a briny flavor that leveled out the sweet notes, but the smoked goat cheese brought them all together. The oysters were interesting, with vodka sauce parmesan bread crumb. The Blackened Shrimp & Grit Grits lead creamy stone ground grits. The seared greens tasted as though they were blanched before they were seared. The ratio of celery root and sunchokes to shrimp was more on the veggies side. I ordered a side of black eyed peas and collards. The collards were cooked well. I like a more vinegary collard. There was a sweetness that looked to level off the vinegar taste. The sweet was a little much for me. The black eyed peas were fresh and bright. I like mine cooked a little longer, but you could taste the farm to table on these. The sides came out at the end of completing my entree, which was not ideal. The server seemed nervous at the beginning of the service. Warmed up towards the middle and got swamped with tables at the end of our service. My wife had the pork chop, i didn’t try it. I knew better. She didn’t offer like she usually does🤣 The seating was tighter than my liking, but the parties closest were very considerate, we all keep or volume down.

We came to this restaurant because of the Southern Living magazine review. The ingredients are fresh but the tastes are very disappointing. We ordered all the oyster dishes, hummus, shrimp and grits, pork chop, fried chicken and grouper. The pork chop is reasonable, everything else was just bad. The flavors were overly complicated, so it was difficult to taste the fresh ingredients. For the price, we would rather eat elsewhere. The orange cake dessert tasted like a Costco pound cake with orange topping. The waitress is super friendly and sweet though. The atmosphere is great but the waiting time is longer than expected.

Pimento cheese deep was tasty but the presentation could have been better - maybe a few different cracker/bread options. Raw oysters were briny and yummy. Fried Oyster Bao Buns really missed the mark - pickled shiitakes were overpowering and the buns need to be way fluffier - they were pretty dense. Pork tenderloin entree I highly recommend. I’d probably give it 3.5 stars if I could.

Overall - we enjoyed our meal but there were a few things worth mentioning. All the prices on the menu are "cash prices", so if you choose to pay with credit/debit they add a surcharge to your bill. I have never seen any restaurant do this before... We shared the Hogfish (was very good), baked oysters (was not good at all, do not recommend), and the butternut squash soup (was good). Prices are overpriced, there is no getting around that. If you can afford it, it is a good meal but would recommend spending that money elsewhere.

Service was fine and our appetizers were good. However, my NY Strip, which was ordered med rare, came out med well to well done. Due to time contraints, we did not have time to have the kitchen re-cook my meal. I understand mistakes happen, but what really irritated me enough to post this review is that the steak is served sliced. So, the chef, or whomever was cooking, could literally see they had completely overcooked my steak and sent it out anyway. It's insulting and straight up lazy. The other part that irritated me was that no manager even came to speak to our table about the issue. We were only advised by our server at the end of the meal, that dessert would be on the house. We had lost our confidence in the kitchen by then, and again, we did not have time for desert, so we declined. Would not recommend.

Over-rated and over-priced. Menu quite limited ( maybe because they tout their farm to table food sources?). The parmesan fried chicken was not at all what we expected: it was a thigh piece, not a breast: guess we should have asked? (Description didn't mention dark meat or choice of...) It also seemed possibly undercooked: bloody and pink in the middle. There is a notification at the bottom of the menu that says there is a $5 fee for shared plates (hate when places do this because everybody shares and you feel like you're being watched), & "prices listed are for cash payment", whatever that means. We were embarrassed to ask. Assumed that they charge more for credit card use, but forgot to check the tab to see if that's the case because we just wanted to leave and go somewhere else for dessert. I have eaten at farm to table restaurants that were more varied in menu choice, more delicious, and less expensive.

PinPoint continues to impress, with a local menu that changes daily. Cocktails were outstanding. The oysters were well cleaned and descriptions on target. The mixed berry salad was light and refreshing without being too sweet. The steaks were flavorful and prepared exactly to temperature. The rib-eye melted like butter and the strip was a very close second of the two. Even the gluten free pavlova was thoughtful and tasty and a nice treat if you are gluten free. Good selection of wine, at reasonable prices. A nice touch were the stamps to indicate wines that were sold out.

Extra mention for having creative options for our 8-year old that still feature items on the main menu - great idea. Heck mini Ny strip with veggies and potatoes for only $14 - I was jealous. The raw local oysters were GREAT. $3 per is a bit high but they are special. Soft shell crab with mole was quite special. The octopus also really strong. Went here for my husband’s birthday. Complimentary glass of champagne with a cute “Happy birthday” note on the table was appreciated. Homemade bread with balsamic and olive oil for dipping was great. Shared the grouper which was delicious but a very small portion. Carrot cake was good as well. Would definitely come back. Thanks!

The food was very tasty but the portions were pretty small for the price tag. The atmosphere was pretty but very loud. I felt I had to yell across the table to hear my friend. Really good food and cocktails!

Very intimate and well run eatery. Small menu with every item extremely well done!! Service is very efficient but very welcoming. We started with the pickles (assorted pickled veggies that are really tasty). Next up, we tried the fried pork shoulder (delectable pork with a perfect crunchy coating). We absolutely loved the newest menu item, the snap peas. If you are a fan of these, these will be the best you’ve experienced - grilled with bacon and a very tasty sauce. Our last main item was the Mahi, this was another taste sensation. One of the best preparations we’ve had. Don’t skip the carrot cake or the French press coffee for a perfect end to your meal…. Highly recommend!!!

The food was absolutely amazing, the service was top notch, and the pino noir that is sold by the glass was *chefs kiss*. This farm to table restaurant is one that I will return to again. The environment is open yet welcoming.

One of the best steaks in Wilmington hands down. A great date night place with great service. My boyfriend and I treat this spot as a special occasion and are always excited when we get to go. We always order the cheese plate which has an awesome red pepper jelly. The waitstaff is always very knowledgeable and friendly. We feel very taken care of when we go to PinPoint!

So glad that we decided to try PinPoint for dinner during our 1 night in Wilmington. Definitely recommend making a reservation - we ended up with bar seating which is what we preferred. We started our meal with a couple of great cocktails and the bartender introduced me to one of my now favorite drinks - the aviation. The nutty bee's knees was another great cocktail I tried and they also had a pretty decent wine list. The service was friendly and attentive. They made great recommendations when it came to drinks and food. After we received our first round of cocktails, we had the best hummus I've ever tried. It was a sweet potato hummus and it's been months now and I still talk about it! For entrees we ordered a bottle of red wine and tried the NY Strip and fish special. Both were seasoned and cooked very well and the accompaniments were equally as delicious. Add PinPoint to your list for dinner if you are ever visiting the Wilmington area :)

Best fried chicken ever! Surprising combinations that work well together. And the Tallow'd old fashioned...Steven, our server, spoiled us, and we loved it!

Celebrating a birthday in style. We thought we were going in for cocktails and appetizers but … the menu was so appealing we ordered cocktails, appetizers, entree and dessert. Our hand crafted custom cocktails were delicious. Excellent oysters (raw). Each meal was plentiful and perfectly prepared. Fried chicken, pork chop and fish. So delicious! The staff is super friendly and Britany is an excellent, knowledgeable server. We will be back! Reservations required. Prices are a little less when paying with cash.

I was excited to come here on a visit back to my hometown after being away for years. I used to hang out a lot at this restaurant when it was a different business, so I felt warm nostalgia walking back through the door. We started with oysters from Topsail which were surprisingly delicious - NC oysters haven’t traditionally been strong for a raw option, and it was great to see that’s evolved. The brussels sprouts were excellent. Our server recommended the mahi as the most popular dish, and it was pretty good. Our issue was with the fried chicken dish. It is $33. When the plate was delivered, my husband was disappointed and confused to see that it was one drumstick sitting on a plate of sauced vegetables. The veggies were awesome and the chicken breading tasted great, but for a dish called fried chicken for $33, he was expecting 1) a breast and 2) not to have to eat a drumstick sitting in saucy vegetables with his hands. It was literally wet, but how else should you eat a drumstick? An odd choice & presentation for a fancy date night type of restaurant. Even odder, when the waiter asked us how everything was, we gave him all of this feedback, and he just shrugged and walked away. He could have been a real hero by casually dropping off a chicken breast on a side plate. It would have drastically improved our night. Unfortunately the server just kind of nervously hovered over us asking about drinks and dessert for the rest of the meal rather than addressing the issue, my husband’s mood soured over the whole thing, and we left feeling deflated.
