Cool place to hang out on the river , and the food was excellent

I really like this very unique place! The food is delicious. We recommend the “Pirate Bowl” and the “Curry Shrimp.”

My experience was maybe a bit different. Maybe I came on an off time. When we arrived we were greeted promptly and though the place was empty, they would not sit us on the dock (issue 1). After a little while the waiter came over with three glasses of ice water. Myself and the other two people I'm sitting with do not drink ice water. So we ask them kindly to please replace the ice water with non-ice water. He seemed a little perturbed and came back a little while later with three glasses of water. This is not really an issue. We wanted to look at menus but apparently they don't have menus or saving money. We had to use our phones as menus which I did not like at all. It is very difficult to navigate through the menu (issue 2). Not in any particular order but you have to pay for parking now which is not the restaurant's fault apparently because of all the signs they placed telling us that it's the landlord's fault. (Issue 3). My wife ordered a mixed drink. I did not because I was driving. The drink came and it was a mojito. It literally tasted like lemon liquor with mint. The drink did not taste. Very good to me at all and it's $14 but my wife not knowing just drank it anyways without sending it back. After again a little while later the waiter came to take our orders. After we refused all of his advice for upsells because he was constantly trying to upsell we tried to order. This part was a little difficult because his accent is very strong and it's very hard to understand him. (Issue 4). The food took a really long time to come out at least 30 minutes or more. We had to order dinner at 3:00 in the afternoon even though we wanted to eat lunch and apparently they must not serve lunch but we wouldn't know because the only menu was on our phone and since it's their website it must be the only menu they have. $35 for a small seafood gumbo I'm assuming is what it is because I can't explain it. It's full of water. The good thing about it is that it did have quite a bit of seafood, clams oysters squid shrimp. The taste was okay but I do not like soup at all and this was basically full of water like a seafood gumbo but not nearly as thick. Though the dish seems small when we received it, I was full when I was done eating. After we were finished we had to wait a long time to find our waiter and to explain to him that our parking meter was running out and we needed it to go so we didn't get a parking ticket. He was asking how long we paid for. We told him 1 hour and that the meter's running out and he said don't worry about it. I'm not exactly sure what that means. Maybe the language barrier was the issue but we were trying to rush him to get our bills so we could get out of there. Lunch or dinner or linner or whatever you want to call. It ended up being $140. The other issue that we had while dining is that we did ask for ketchup and they brought us ketchup packets like this was a hot dog or something. We wondered it for our french fries. If we are paying $140, we expect a little bit higher level of service. A little bit higher level of cleanliness because the restaurant's extremely dirty. A little bit higher level of food as well. This was our first and last time. We will be coming here. The restaurant before this one was a casual dining and fun restaurant with an active bar and nice food. I don't think this restaurant's going to last much longer, especially now that they charge for parking.

The food is always amazing here and the view you just can’t beat!

The place was almost empty on Friday night. It was so dark also. The parking is a paid parking. The server was in a hurry for whatever you ordered. The menu is short and very expensive for what's served. Drinks expensive also and server on strange kind of cup. Also, in my opinion, there are more nice restaurants close that offer better options. So I really don't recommend going at night.

Look I don't write reviews much, but for the cost and lack of service and having to pay to park $10, don't go here unless you like pirate themed restaurants so much you don't care about the other details important to a good solid restaurant experience. I thought this place would be a great outdoor spot on the Riverwalk in Los Olas after seeing it across the river when walking. After getting in the car and driving over, we get there to find out anyone parking at there restaurant has to pay $10 or more to park in the parking lot bc a different landlord owns it and decided to charge. They do put a sign walking into restaurant apologizing. Either way, whatever you pay $10 to walk ten feet and move on just like valet somewhere. What really chapped me was the pricing of the food, the lack of flavor and quality of the food including five different people's meals in our party. The food was bland and not worth $30 to $50/meal minimum. $33 for four blue shrimp as an appetizer is fine at a five star restaurant where everyone pays five start pricing bc the whole menu is five star quality. The whole theme of the place is a pirate themed Jamaican Jerk carribean flavor palette. I'm unaware of carribean jersey places who make mashed potatoes with zero salt. I mean none. Corvina was pretty good but no seasoning. Sweet potato fries were a huge bowl of nothing. We all ate one fry and left the entire bowl untouched. The kids did like the chicken strips and pasta. They would eat almost anything so take that for what it is. Lastly you are charging to park. Ok not your fault you don't own the land. Your prices are high for quality lacking food. Okay we are in Los olas whatever. At least make sure your staff are friendly and provide great service to match your location and pricing. Our hostess looked like he was annoyed to even seat us. The server the entire night did not smile or joke or say anything that would make someone think man we are getting great service here! It was uncomfortable to the point when we were trying to order he scoffed at one of our food choices for a side item request of replacing a salad with the mustard greens. I've never seen a waiter look like that when asked a question. Either way he was unpleasant the whole time. Take this for what you want, but we will never eat here again. Most overpriced, overrated, poor experience, but cool nice environment and location restaurant I've been to in a while.

Our waitress was very kind and helpful. Also, our food was impeccable and our drinks were also top notch. Would recommend this place!!

$21 Marguerita was almost all triple sec. Not good. No bar to sit at. Pictures on website are very deceiving it’s not like that at all. Scenery is not great at all. It’s just a marina restaurant for boaters

This place asked me to disclose over the phone in front of my friends my sad story of the reason I have a service animal. Shame on you. I felt violated and disrespected. I have my dog for a reason should not be public. My suggestion educate your employees about guidelines and ADA act. ( American with disabilities act.)

Very nice place, nice view in Fort lauderdale. You can see the people with yates. The food was good and services too. 100% recommended.

Let's start with the ambience. Beautiful Fort Lauderdale waters. Pirates greets you as you come and be seated by the water. Drinks were made very good (Virgin lsland painkiller). Sparing no alcohol. We went straight to the entree... Pirate Bowl in white wine sauce was amazing. And the Florida Chowder. With the small bits of bacon to elevate the already amazing taste. The seafood was plenty and fresh. Served with flaky basmati rice. Service was good from greeting to waitress. Enjoyed the vibes, water, boats passing by and sitting out on the dock. **Pay for parking. $10.35/hrly.**

Me and my wife had a great time. Our server name is Rene A. He was a great person. Very knowledgeable about the menu. His personality was on Key. We had the fried Calamari as an appetizers. Then we had the Corvina fish and the Red Shapper fish with our sides and house salad. Drinks was the Pina Colada frzn and the Arrrr-Tai. Everything was marvelous. We will be back very soon. BRAVO to Rene A he derserve a nice raise or a beneficial promotion.

We had the Barbados Shrimp and the Curry Shrimp. Both were delicious! I personally favored the Barbados, but you can’t go wrong either way. Lovely place!

Highly recommend this place! Foods are good and vibe is awesome. Pirate bowl is the BEST seafood bowl! Seafoods are fresh and you can feel the nature of their taste !

Alright ! The food was delicious!

We went here for dinner for the first time. We were sat right on the dock. It was fun watching the boats go by but the breeze is blocked by the high rises. Train went by several times while we were there which was a bit distracting and made it difficult to speak. I got a Pain Killer and it was pretty good. We started with the calamari which was cooked well but under seasoned in my opinion and the marinara it came with was subpar. I got the Mahi Mahi which came with a house salad and a side. They gave me two smallish pieces of fish which was more than sufficient. The fish was well seasoned but a bit dry and overcooked. The side salad was tasty with just enough dressing. I ordered fries with it. They were fine but definitely not made in house. I'm pretty sure none of the sauces are either since I asked for ranch to go with my fries and was brought a single serve container of Ken's ranch. Needless to say I only ate a few. The server was polite and nice but not very attentive since we never got a drink refill. Not vegan friendly and very little vegetarian options. Website says there's a free lot to park in but when you get there they have signs up that apologizes that there's no free parking. Don't know why they don't update their website. All in all good experience but not great.

Terrible, service, food, everything was very horrible, we went to 2 houses, ordered lemon caipirinha, we couldn't drink it because it was so bad, we complained and ordered another coconut one, it was better, the food, shrimp in coconut, muqueca, shrimp bobo, it was pure pepper, I didn't want to eat anything and order a portion of fries and fried cassava, I couldn't make that order, only if I was going to eat some food. Pay $330.00 for horrible food, in short, everything is horrible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. I WILL NEVER COME BACK AGAIN.

Food and atmosphere are 5/5! I was with a group and I had the Barbados Shrimp and order of plantains, the others had SEAFOOD MOQUECA and Florida Chowder! Mine was DELICIOUS- 10/10- and the others said the same. I eat ALOT and couldn’t finish my plate (only had 1 drink). You won’t leave hungry, and will definitely be satisfied- gonna be back to try more!

Horrible experience there. Unfortunately was a local spot that we visited until recently. Pulled up to dock in our boat with Dog. who happens to actually be a trained service animal, vs a support dog. Yes there is a difference and yes i have a health issue that supports having a service dog. We never had a chance to even get out of boat or even finish tying lines. A women who announced herself as the manager charged over to us screaming the dog was not allow off boat. We get in, you don't like dogs and don't want them on your deck. Frankly what was done was illegal but with the amount of animal friendly restaurants in ft Lauderdale, why fight with an ignorant person that your looking to give your business to. Rules are rules, but you could have been a bit nicer and less rude.

The food is great, a bit pricey but good quality. Service is good but a little slow. Parking used to be free but now it is $5/hr. Wait alone was an hour.... with A RESERVATION. Not sure if I'd come back again.

I was disappointed with my experience. I researched this place ahead of time. It was rated well and reviewed by Guy Fieri. Pictures on Instagram not accurate and not what it was reviewed by Guy Fieri. I am guessing they put on a show for him. House salad is not what the pictures show its romaine with tomatoes and vinaigrette. The grouper was good. Service was very poor server and manager had an attitude. Also bring back regular menus, I don’t want to scan a barcode with my phone for a “nice” restaurant.

Easily contending for the best shrimp I've ever had in my 41 years of life.. Great place, I was semi-skeptical at first with all the fiberglass pirate chotchkies walking in, the parrot's real, apparently the sign says it bites but it seemed pretty friendly! The food is on point. 10/10 Garlic shrimp and rolls Churasco steak and shrimp 5 stars, the shrimp was utterly delicious Curry shrimp over pasta was out of this world good as well.. Great mohito, lemonade... Great service too, people super friendly..

Make sure you put this restaurant as one of the places you have to visit. The food is "chef's kiss", worth every penny and they give you portions you can share! Definitely planning to go back as the chef knows what it means to season a meal beautifully, even for the pickiest of eaters. Every single meal that came out was well done!!!!!! That is not easy for a lot of restaurants to maintain so hopefully they keep up the great work!!!!

Went to this restaurant before a show at the Broward Performing Arts Center because it was a very short distance away. We were really glad we did! Gps knew the route but it's a little off the beaten path. We ate a fabulous whole snapper and lobster tail dinner which was on special that night! We sat directly on the water on their dock and had great views of the bridge opening and watched the water taxis and Jungle Queen cruise up the river! The service was excellent- fast, knowledgeable and really pleasant! I definitely recommend and will be returning!

Do not bring your older parents here. The only thing this place has going for it is the atmosphere. Both my parents have older phones and they can't use QR codes. We asked for a menu since neither one of them could read my phone and were told we had to make due with the QR code alone. The food was unoriginal and expensive for what you get. We will not be returning.

Been here a handful of times and have had a great experience. Came last night at 8pm for a drink, and the guy seating us was extremely rude. Asked us if we had reservations and looked at his watch in dismay. There were three cars in the parking lot. Same thing happened the time before, guy threw his arms up in disgust as if it was a burden. Close earlier if you don’t want guest past a certain time, or have employees who appreciate customers. Will not be returning, caprinha is very good though.

This is a very rustic beauty place to visit and they usually have a parrot out front. Pirate themed and lots of fun. They had a massive selection of seafood dishes that knocked our socks off. We had a great dinner for the beginning of our weeklong travels.

Unorganized parking, pay to park but has the city pay by phone? Asked about parking, asked no attendant? Nope, answer, must be free. No personalities of any staff. No menus, no, no phone, SOL I guess, he didn't care. Too bad, food good, location good, everything else low rent... Would haveordered more, but worried if car would be towed...,

Parking is an issue, not sure if we had to pay for parking or not. Yes you do. We were seated, the waiter came over (explained we were still trying to figure out the parking). He left, never introduced himself, NEVER asked if we wanted something to drink, no smile. (ugh) Figured out the parking app. Waiter kept walking by, never stopping, no eye contact. I asked a waitress if we could change our seats to sit on the river for the view. (yes) Waiter finally came, again, no smile. We ordered appetizers. Me, the Coconut Shrimp my friend the Steak Bites, he wasn't happy that we just wanted appetizers. My friend asked for a side salad. We were told NO that only comes with a main meal. Nothing on the menu states that a side needs to be ordered with a main meal.

Pretty impressive water front & canal views, water taxis and plenty of water craft to keep your eyes busy as you wait for the food to arrive, the bridge causes a bit of traffic as the boats wait for it to open. The food was pretty good! The wait staff were both friendly and attentive . As far as the Atmosphere is concerned the outside seating is amazing, especially at night, but the indoors could use a fresh coat of paint .And some definite updating.

I ordered a sea food soup. It has enough shrimp and fish. A few mussels. Octopus and lobster are optional for an extra charge. It was light flavor and watery. But that is a personal taste. I prefer richer flavor. The fryed red snapper was good, too. Food was fresh. Service was ok. We had to wait to order more than 15 minutes and 10 minutes for the waitress to get the card to pay. The location is great, and they have these maniquies with pirates customs that really add some character.

Overpriced, basic food.Apps $18+. Mains start at $30. I'm more than happy to pay these kind of prices if the food is good, but bland with no imagination. Really disappointed. With the location it could and should be a goldmine. Don't bother.

It was the first time that we visited and we enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious, with large portions, and they didn't hold back on the drinks . The scenery was breathtaking, and the weather was nice for an afternoon. I will definitely recommend you visit for yourself to get the experience of the decor they have all around really unique. I will recommend that they have music playing for those who sit along the water to enjoy.

Very nice cozy place with great seafood selections Brazilian style! Loved the fried fish ribs, whole snapper, and drinks. Outside seating is nice with a great view of the bay.

Food was amazing! We ordered, 4 different plates all of them where amazing. The best was the Asopado de mariscos, the fried snapper was amazing, and the seafood moqueca and pirate bowl were really good. Service was amazing will be coming back, recommended.

The food was great!!! In particular, the snapper, and the grouper. I loved everything about it. The lemonade was ok, it wasn't too sweet and it wasn't too bland. But they put it in these weird small square glasses. I felt like I was drinking out of a kids glass. You're outside, so your ice melts quickly, which water is down your lemonade, or any other drink you may get. Also, the flies are at your table like one of the guests waiting to order!!! It was horrible. The waitress was fairly pleasant, but she talked so fast it was very difficult to understand her. We really didn't catch the specials. Especially with her heavy accent. Maybe it's because she was busy, and perhaps had a lot of tables. But she did come by and check on us regularly.

Nice food and drinks, pretty scenery, often a nice breeze. Fairly pricey but the real issue is you pay 10.50 to park yourself. Not even anything else nearby to justify it. Just add $10 to your bill for nothing.

Great tasting food and drinks;however, the price for the amount of food you order does not match. The portion sizes are small for 20.00 or more for a plate.

This was a really great and fun little spot on the water looking at downtown Ft. Lauderdale. From the moment we walked in, it was great. Was greeted by a very nice hostess and a Macaw Parrott. The food was excellent and the view of downtown was fun to admire.

A tad expensive, but its a great place on the water. The photos speak for themselves. Oysters, Full friend red snapper with yucca, and Feijoada de Mariscos. I added a lobster tail onto my Feijoada, which was $56 extra. It was pretty delicious. The parking was pretty plentiful as well, at least when we went.

Top shelf food and service. The dishes are not like you find in a traditional seafood restaurant. The jerk chicken was the best I have ever had. The waterway views sitting on the deck are awesome. Great atmosphere, food and service.

No menu! And prices not indicated for 2-3-4 plates....attention price of $238 for this dish to share.....lollll (see photo) The Pina Colada was filled with coconut shavings....not good at all. I had chosen the 3 plate dish but the waiter brought 4 plates. And then he doesn't want to understand that it's his mistake and maintains that I ordered the 4 plates. As it is difficult with the telephone the waiter takes the opportunity to increase the price of the bill. I imagine he must do that often!!! We have to use our cell phones. So the waiter takes the opportunity to bring more expensive dishes. Not very honest, and Victor the manager plays the guy who can't fix anything. Stealing.... too bad, because it's a nice place. But, I'll go to another place because the price isn't worth it....A real pirate resto because pirates steal from people!!!! 🤨

This place is great! Food outstanding. Service the same. We will definitely go again. And close to Broward Theater so convenient before a show.

Flight got delayed until the next morning out of Miami so we met up with a buddy who lives in Ft. LAUDERDALE. He highly recommended this place. The atmosphere is definitely interesting with the pirate statues but you can't beat a place on the water. I trust his judgment when it comes to food so I figured it would be good. The food was absolutely fantastic! All 4 dishes were delicious!! Definitely recommended this place. I personally had the Shrimp and Mushroom Stroganoff. I thought it was awesome!! Very reasonably priced. I would definitely go back.

The atmosphere was cool with the bird greating you and being on the water. The service was slow and unemployment attentive. The food was not worth the drive or the price. We had the snapper with lobster and the pulpo. The pulpo was tender but lacked flavor or depth. The lobster tail was ho hum at best. I have dove for spiny lobster and made them better with no kitchen. The snapper was acceptable. We had two drinks each and 1 shot each. The bill was almost $300. Not worth the money at all.

They do not have nonalcoholic beer selections nor ice tea. I ordered water and received tap then later found Perrier and another bottled water listed. The calamari was chewy and the tomato sauce bland. The salmon was tasty but I could have done the same at home. A friend had a shrimp dish and the shrimp had not been cleaned! The waiter said that they don’t usually clean them for that dish. This was one and done for me.

Great seafood choices. Old decor but food was worth it. Make a reservation if you want to sit next to the river.

If when you arrive there are a waiting line, be patient because it will be worth. Great seafood, nice environment (the seats close the water, in the evening, are GREAT). Pirate Republic is one of the best places in Fort Lauderdale. Focus in the seafood, don't try with the meat (New York or whatever)

Very nice place, on the river, downtown Fort Lauderdale. The service is good and the food is great! The calamari were exceptional and we ate a very good moqueca. We’ll come back for sure!

Used to have a great service and delicious food. Certainly something changed, menu reduced it's options, quality dropped tremendously and service is absolutely horrible. We will miss the good times here.

We live in Clearwater Florida and have been watching the cam on New River and the Brightline railroad Bridge for a couple of years and we went to Ft. Lauderdale for the weekend and unbeknownst to us stumbled upon this magnificent restaurant! Great to see the whole picture now!! Wow!!

I've been eager to visit Pirate Republic since watching Triple D. Guy is rarely wrong in my experience. Sadly, despite the very good reviews our experience was disappointing. Friends brought us here on the fly and I was surprised by the fact that this was on DDD. The food was okay and the Pirate Bowl, though highly recommended was disappointing. The Seafood was heavy on Calamari which was suprising since it advertised a variety. The Sauce was flavourless which was another disappointment considering how other reviewers raved about it. Considering that this was $34 it was light on the Shrimp, Clams, Fish but heavy on the Calamari. My wife wants to take me here for my Birthday in late March but until I am satisfied that my return visit will be substantially better I don't want to return. Hopefully the Managers of the restaurant will respond to this review.

From start to finish my family and I had a great experience...ambience, scenery and music were fantastic. The food was great... fried snapper was perfect and the accompanying salad was fresh and enjoyable. We added escovitch as a side and it was very good. Perfect acidity. The side of spinach and yucca fries were very good. The tomato seafood linguini was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and tasty. The portion size was good also. The lobster was perfectly cooked. The Mojito and fresh lemonade were refreshing. Our server kept us on his radar at all times. Thoroughly enjoyed this visit. Will definitely go again.

Excellent view of the inlet. Friendly fast service. The staff knows the menu very well. The cocktails from the bar are imaginative, delicious and strong. The food is fresh prepared. When you order it is delicious. It's worth the trip. If you don't live near this restaurant take a drive sit on the water. Enjoy your meal they don't care how long you sit there and have appetizers and entrée and cocktails and dessert is wonderful. You won't regret it.
