They took a while with the food and apart from that they brought everyone their food and Ami brought it to me until everyone had finished eating at the table and besides the place smells a lot of urine they don't wash the bathrooms well that smell is everywhere maybe for them It's already familiar but for someone new you can smell urine

High prices and for delivery they cut the portion ( same price for less food ) is my expierence, have not uber eat or delivery

We had an amazing time here! The food was absolutely fantastic and we loved the experience. I had arroz chaufa con pollo, which was a fantastic chicken fried rice. We shared a pitcher of chicha morada which was sweet and cinnamon-y. For dessert we shared picarones; they were so delicious we finished them, even though we were all full. Will definitely be coming back every time we are in town.

Staff is so nice but you can tell the cooks are not Peruvian. Lomo saltado was super dry, no sals ostre , no aji amarillo, no vinegar, just a tiny bit of soy sauce . ceviche had way too much celery and no cancha!!?? Even the aji is not right. Chicha is def not home made. Did ownership change??

Staff is friendly, helpful and all around great attitudes. Chicken is continually knocked out the park! Juicy and delicious.

Always enjoyable. The onion and lime salad paired with a corona and a lime is the perfect thing on a hot summer day. We like to come here after a long hike and get the ceviche and salad and a beer. Perfection.

The ladies who serve have poor attention and response to customers. I had a 20 minute delay trying to call and they didn't answer, when I approached they said they would wait 20 to 30 minutes. And yet they decided to sell the order without first confirming or calling me. Terrible attention from the ladies, especially the one with glasses. But to demand the tips there if they are attentive. Bad attention

the service was terrible the server was not paying attention the whole time i was there. then she stopped us at the door demanding a tip. terrible terrible place ruined my whole experienced. spoke to the manager and nothing was done . my mother went for dinner and she denied her service because “she had to many tables and won’t be attending them quick” so disappointing.

One on my favorite places to eat, food come quick and taste great. The the prices for everything is great. Definitely recommend

We recently visited New London’s only Peruvian restaurant, CJ Peruvian aka Pollas a la Brasa! They told us they recently expanded, and the bar/dining room area was beautiful. Though they were out of a couple of items on the menu that we were interested in, the waitress was quick to come up with suggestions of other popular dishes. We decided to get an appetizer of salchipapas - though simple, we’ve just never ordered it before and wanted to check it off our list! My fiancé loves a good Pisco sour and was very happy with the one here. The rotisserie chicken was flavorful and served with a delicious side of beans, and I enjoyed my beef with pesto pasta. All of the food came out very quickly!

Why did I wait so long!!! That chicken is on a whole other level! Nice bar & restaurant, clean, sweet people. Go and eat.

I tried to leave a review but it wouldn't let me. The reviews were really good but as an american italian I thought the food was very boring. No salt or pepper were served. There were no condiments available except hot sauces. I guess you have to be familiar with this type of food t oenjoy it. I wouldhope i thefuture some types of other condiments could accompany the food served here. I told the waitress, whom was very kind, but she wasnt willing to compromise or offer dessert or something to maybe, at least, anticipate a return with my peruvian friend. We won't be coming back.

Food was the bomb! I went there for my birthday (September 24th and I am libra by the way lol) 5' 5" There was only one waitress for like 10 tables. Food took forever to come. There were so many takeout orders so that was a good sign that this peruvian business is consistent!!! So they must be doing good financially. Ceviche was ok Waitress Lady was so frantic I feel bad for her (I I used to be a waiter before so I empathize) Seafood was AWESOME!!

The rotisserie chicken is the best!!

Sadly the food has gotten worse after the expansion. And the service too. Our waitress had no experience, or wasn’t able to hear us well, or possibly did not understand English well enough to take our order properly. In any case, when I ordered the quarter chicken I specified dark meat. She brought the breast quarter and walked away with no explanation. I got her attention and she then explained “we don’t have that now”. Not great - most places would ask what else you would like to order if they are out of the item you ordered. The other things we ordered were really not as good as in the past. There are much better Peruvian restaurants in the area, and a James Beard nominated Peruvian restaurant in Hartford. Try those.

We had lunch at a Peruvian restaurant in C.T some years back. We wanted to try this one for awhile and was not disappointed. Far better then the last one. My wife wanted the Arroz Chaufa con Camarones, rice ,egg ,and shrimp I wanted the rotisserie chicken but l was told they were out of chicken. When l asked why because it's so popular the owner told me that take out usually cleans them out. Made sense being a Saturday so I ordered Arroz Chaufa con Mariscos the seafood rice. Will be going back again on a week day this time.

The food was delicious and the restaurant provided a great atmosphere. They serve very traditional Peruvian food that you won't find in a lot of places. I highly recommend having a pisco sour while you're there!

Absolutely incredible. This was my first time going to a Peruvian restaurant. I felt like something different, so I took a chance. I had no idea what to order. Two adults shared a half chicken with rice and beans and a salad. The child had a cut and fried hot dog with french fries. After my first bite of each item, I could not wait to come back again. It was that good. I've already recommended this place to about a half dozen people in the few days since we've gone. Great atmosphere, clean place, and very friendly, attentive staff. Authentic! Again, I cannot wait to go back!

La comida estuvo muy rica, pero esta es la segunda vez que vengo y me trataron muy mal. Estaba realizando el pago, me trajeron mi boleta y me pidieron la propina de manera déspota. Ni siquiera esperaron y dijeron "ni propina han dejado" como se espera que con ese servicio uno este a gusto y deje algo. Deja mucho que desear. La primera señorita que nos atendió fue muy amable pero la que nos trajo la cuenta, muy grosera. Por ese trato no le dejaría nada. Aprendan a tratar bien a sus clientes.

This place has expanded and has a bar now. The menu has expanded, but the quality isn't as good as it used to be which often is the case when a small restaurant doubles in size.. And I know covid has reduced the options of many places. That said the half chicken dish was big enough to feed two people, and the waitress, although she could not speak English, could not have been sweeter or more helpful. I do recommend this place for decent Peruvian food which you will be hard pressed to find elsewhere in the area.

I really want this restaurant to succeed and I have given them many chances in my 5 or 6 visits here in the past 6 years. However I cannot justify going back anymore even though the staff is friendly. The food has been OK maybe twice but the high prices and low portions never justify the expense. I have also tried dining in but waited 15 minutes just for them to get my drink order and after another 15 minutes waiting for the drinks and to order my food I just left. I really hope they improve as I work nearby and generally love Peruvian food.

I've never had Peruvian food, but I will again! The food was fresh, good tasting and good enough to go back the next day. The seafood cerviche was amazing!

So glad we tried this place. My fiance really enjoyed his soup and was surprised to find half a crab in it! It was my first time trying ceviche and I loved it! Definitely try the passion fruit juice we couldn't get enough of it.

They have hiked up prices by a whole lot and the quality does not reflect it anymore.

I been too this restaurant when I was little but time change and today was my first day back at the restaurant with my family and after ordering food I can say it was not very good there was a lot of oil in the food and even hair and my brother said that the soup was awful and my cousin food was dry and it sad how the restaurant change and their food and their cook need to learn how to cook again and after receiving the check I was shocked by how they change there so greedy and the only thing that keep that business running is their new bar and would I recommend this to any family absolutely not

One of the worst experience I have go through the service has been one of worst the prices they want to charge for plates its just unacceptable the staff was pretty rude to me and my family it felt like really unwelcoming In this place get it that people sometimes have a bad day but that’s no reason to treat a customer poorly place its not recommended sorry

Worse place ever!!!! So….. I order one roasted chicken, they said that I can only order half of a chicken for $18, they don’t want to sell a whole chicken bc they spend to much water and used too many plates, so, only whole chicken to go, half to eat in, this people became extremely expensive, they are not humble anymore, after the city help them with my/our money tax payers to expand, than they became greedy!!!!! This people are bad!!! They became discriminated!, they don’t want more than 8 people in one table, I do NOT recommend this place! So this people answer back, calling me liar, and talking about legal action, some people don’t like when others speak the truth about services! I’ll keep writing my reviews with the truth as I always have

I love their rotisserie chicken and rice and beans. I just wish they would.have it available all the time especially on a busy Friday evening. The chicken was the reason my family came here, and there was none available.

The food was disappointing. We ordered picarones, a lomo saltado, ceviche, patasca and a jalea. The lomo saltado was dry and flavorless, the rice was extremely dry. The ceviche was alright. The patasca did not have much flavor either and had an odd color. The jalea was small and was not the best either, the salad was soggy and tasted old. The worst of it all were the picarones, they were literally fried donuts in syrup. Not even close to what real picarones are, it was super disappointing after the waitress assured us the picarones were good. Overall, our experience was not positive and we would not come back. The food was not good at all.

It’s been years since I had ceviche mixto! Before I visit this spot I was at ocean beach and tbh this is the spot to get pollo and mariscos peruvian style! I love my Mexican aguachiles and mariscos but this spot is legit ! Gracias !

Went a few years ago and the food was amazing. Returned recently and it was just okay and certainly didn’t match the price. I’ll keep giving it a try because it may just be COVID related decline in quality, but it doesn’t quite have that crave-able quality it used to.

Amazing amazing experience. The food is incredible. I brought my picky boyfriend to try ceviche & papa ala huancaina for the first time and he LOVED it. He said he would definitely go back and order again. For Peruvian cuisine it's on point authentic. Definately where you'd want to go locally to introduce someone to Peruvian food, or try Peruvian food. And the prices are more than fair. I highly recommend.

Fantastic peruvian fare! Had a parihuela (seafood soup) and a jalea (fried seafood platter) and both dishes did not disappoint. The parihuela is easily the best I've had. Not especially spicy, but served at the perfect temperature JUST short of scalding. The jalea was also great, the fried seafood portion was a little on the salty side but I can live with that. The onion salad that comes with it was on-point; refreshing and acidic to combat the oil of fried seafood. I recommend also asking for aji verde on the side (milky green sauce, cilantro and tiny bit of heat.) The aji verde was a bit thin in consistency, relative to what I've had, but it was still excellent in flavor. Whatever they did to the fried yucca transformed it into something otherwordly when it came to consistency and flavor, in a good way! Usually yucca is pretty bland; not this time! Creamy, robust, everything I'd want it to be. My partner had lomo saltado a la CJ, which included fried plantains. Once again, there wasn't a thing to complain about. With that said, CILANTRO HATERS TAKE NOTE: TELL THEM AHEAD OF TIME TO NOT USE CILANTRO. Rice, beef, plantains... Everything cooked to perfection. Tomatoes used were fresh as can be, not a hint of mush or that fermenty-aroma when they get a bit overripe. Lastly, for dessert: pumpkin doughnuts with fig syrup. Never had it before, will enjoy again! That fig syrup is the perfect complement to the fried dough. The dough is FLUFFY, and it takes a minute to soak in the syrup. Delicious. The building itself is nondescript, but once you enter you realize it's actually nice inside! Clean, spacious, and tastefully furnished/decorated. Service was notably friendly and accommodating. But man, it's hard to outshine that FOOD! Prices are a bit higher than most other peruvian places I've been to, but not excessively so. You certainly won't leave hungry. For a BIG bowl of parihuela, a very generously portioned jalea, a similarly large lomo saltado, and SIX doughnuts with fig syrup the subtotal was $67. It was just the two of us, but we could have fed another two folks pretty easily. They have their own small parking lot on the side of the building, but if it fills up there's plenty of street parking as they are on the edge of a suburb. I'll be back again, guaranteed.

This is not the first Peruvian restaurant I have been to. But I can assure you it will definitely not be my last! If you have a chance to try some Peruvian cuisine, DO IT! CJ's is a comfortable restaurant and bar with a fun and cozy atmosphere. This restaurant feels like it is in the hood, but it might possibly be some of the best food in the area. They do have some parking in the back, but plenty of seating inside. I have had the Pollo a la Brass today and I was very happy. I washed it down with a couple Subductions from one of the local breweries. The waitress might not understand English very well. But you can point to whatever you want on the menu and I promise you will not be disappointed!

Thia place is wonderful!!! Theid chaufa is one of my favorites anx we order at least once a month as a family. Ive never had anything bad here and the rotisserie chicken is especially flavorful and fresh. This is a great restaurant if yohre in the area. I selfishly want people to support them because their food is my favorite go to takeout when im too tired to cook. Its great, homey feeling food.

Great atmosphere, very friendly. The waitress was extremely nice, offered us a lot of things, very helpful. Adding to that, the food was very good. The dishes were good such as the salchipapas. However, the typical Peruvian soup was a star in my opinion. Great spot, would definitely come back.

La jalea es muy buena opción a pedir( 7/10) para los que estamos lejos de casay no tenemos restaurantes cerca como en Hartford: buen pescado, pulpos y yuca deliciosa. La patasca le pondría un 5/10 ya que no se que estilo es pero se nota que le ponen ají panca, pueden mejorarlo. Tuvimos un percance con el pollo a la brasa, al inicio era pasado pero al hacer el reclamo lo cambiaron por uno del día inmediatamente y ese sí que estuvo con sabor. El servicio al cliente también fue bueno. Volvería para darle más oportunidad a otros platos

This place is amazing. Be prepared to eat so much you hate yourself a little because the food is so good! The staff is always friendly and the portions are huge. The new renovation is great. Try the bistec a lo pobre, I get it every time I go and it's always enough food for two meals.
