The staff who met us when we first arrived were super helpful and friendly. The cabin was cozy and had plenty of games and DVDs to keep us occupied on a rainy evening. The restaurant is amazing! The dinner and drinks were yummy and generous. Thanks. We’ll see you again.

5 years running and this is ALWAYS my favorite place to spend a week to disconnect from the world... this place is magic in the wood. The restaurant is great, the staff is so friendly and helpful. I LOVE this place :-)

I've honestly never had such amazing cheese curds. I also got the haus burger and every bite was amazing. Girlfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and she absolutely loved it. The view was so beautiful and all around great place!

Thee BEST place in the universe. No lie. I’ve stayed here multiple times since they’ve opened and everytime I’ve yet succeeded in a better experience (how can that be when the first stay was beyond excellent!). Owners and staff are caring, friendly, and hospitable. Literally every cabin has been wonderful! Always clean and accommodating! Have stayed there with and without children and always with a dog! Food at restaurant is top notch! Gourmet! If I could go anywhere in the world, it would honestly be the Poplar Haus. Very fun, peaceful, and a refreshing retreat away from the busy hustle and bustle of the cities. A comfortable home away from home. Plus the area attractions (Poplar Lake, hiking trails along the Gunflint Trail and Grand Marais are incredible!)

Fantastic atmosphere and delicious food. The cocktails were delicious and the service was impeccable. The view of the lake is the icing on the cake! David and Jeff were accommodating, courteous, and attentive bartenders. I highly recommend stopping into Poplar if you're on the north shore! I will surely be coming back!

We had dinner here. The food was amazing. So flavorful. I had the pulled pork and have never had such a tasty sandwich. Chose the wallet chowder - wow! My husband had the smash burger which they are known for. It also was so flavorful. We ended the meal by sharing a butterscotch, chocolate chip bread pudding drizzled with salted caramel. It was superb. Excellent service and a fun atmosphere. The view from the eating is gorgeous too!

Best spot on the Gunflint Trail where we spent 10 glorious days. Bryan & Stacey couldn't have been more accomodating and our cabin was lovely. And, the FOOD! We'll be back!

Walked into the restaurant solo. They suggested sitting at the bar. That was a brilliant suggestion. I kind of want to work here or move here. Bartenders and people next me at the bar were like perfect. I learned all sorts of tips about the area. Plus I had great food. To my question of should I get the burger of the day or the walleye po’boy? The answer was get the Philly cheese steak. I was dubious but richly rewarded with an explanation that the chef was from Philly. It was better than any Philly I have eaten in Philly.

Excellent. Great food (duck wings and burger are both musts). Highly recommend if you're on the trail.

We had a late lunch (around 3pm open) at the restaurant on a Wednesday in early/mid July, so it wasn’t too busy and we enjoyed the pretty view across the lake. The cheese curds with peach bbq sauce (seriously can I get the recipe for the sauce?) were the undisputed winner of the apps, Brussel sprouts were a strong second. The curry ketchup with the tots was yummy too, top notch sauce game. We enjoyed the Minnesota craft beer, walleye po-boys, and various burgers and sandwiches. Walleye would have been great pan-fried or grilled as well. Wait staff was friendly and atmosphere was lovely. This was the perfect stop after a hike up to Magnetic Rock as we drove back along the Gunflint Trail, I’m so glad we found it!

We had a wonderful stay at the Poplar Haus. My husband, dog, and I stayed in the Forager cabin and it was so clean and very cute. As cabin guests, we had free access to their canoes and kayaks and we took one of the kayaks out on Poplar Lake. We ate dinner in the Restaurant three nights and had a great meal each time - their menu is full of variety and everything is a great choice. We cannot wait to visit again.

Recommend getting reservations on weekends, but the wait is well worth it! Best food on the Trail. Particularly enjoyed the Haus Burger and Duck Wings.

Love the mushroom fettuccine! One of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. The walleye dinner was delicious! Great cocktails and delicious desserts! Love the view of Poplar lake and the ambience!

Seated quickly in a clean and inviting restaurant, the staff was warm and welcoming, quickly making us feel at home by stopping and chatting with us. The prices were good and the quality of the food was excellent! Thank you very much we will be back.

Wow what a great place! The best kind of places are the ones you just kind of stumble upon and not the ones you see plastered all over the internet. We were hungry and this placed looked like a nice place to grab a bite and wow what an amazing place. Amazing modern yet outdoorsy ambiance overlooking Poplar Lake but the food was what was noteworthy here. I highly recommend the Haus Burger....MMMmmmm good. Whatever they had in that sauce was amazing. The french fries were also excellent and unique as they were almost a hybrid of a steak fry and a chip. Highly recommend and we will be stopping here on a regular basis when we travel to the Nort' Woods

Any time you can get a Hamms on tap served in a vintage glass like this, it's 5 star! Service was very friendly, food was delicious, overall it was excellent and highly recommended! Reservations are almost always required as this place is always busy.

We finally made it up to Poplar Haus for a long weekend after first hearing about them back in 2019. We booked well in advance in order to hit the Gunflint Trail during peak Fall colors and the whole experience didn't disappoint. My wife and I stayed in the Forager which was perfect for a cozy getaway for 2. The Cabin: The Forager is located directly across the street from the restaurant and the rest of the cabins. It still has a lake view but it's not directly on the lake. No worries though, we actually loved being a little more private and not having all the cars coming to the restaurant pass right by our place all night. The cabin itself has been updated and comes with Wi-Fi (online info suggested cabins may have spotty Wi-Fi but the Forager has its own network so we had no problem staying connected while we were there. For entertainment purposes, it also comes with a TV (DVD and "UBS/HDMI" ports only so bring your cords or streaming sticks if you'd prefer), a Bluetooth speaker system, a bunch of DVD's and board games. The kitchen has most everything you'd need for home cooked meals except a microwave. No big deal though since one of Minnesota's best restaurants is right across the street. If you do plan on cooking though, bring everything with you because the closet grocery store is in Grand Marais. The Restaurant and Amenities: We stayed in the cabins but we ultimately went for the food and it didn't disappoint. Their ever-changing menu has a mix of modern takes on tavern food as well as plenty of upscale culinary options for all tastebuds. Their drink list is very expansive as well. Make reservations ahead of time though because even if you're staying there, the restaurant fills up (especially on the weekends). On the lake, we had full access to their rack of canoes/kayaks as well as the life jackets and paddles (at no charge). They even had a pontoon boat you could rent at a very affordable fee. There is a sauna as well if you're interested. We spent most of the weekend using Poplar Haus as a base to go hiking all over the Gunflint Trail. Dozens of trailheads within about 20 minutes of the cabins. There's zero cell service up there though so come prepared with your own weekend plan prior to arriving. We can't wait to go back!

Stopped by for lunch after a day of hiking and absolutely loved this place. The food was amazing, the views were breathtaking, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The bartender even brought our Golden Retriever his own side dish of cheese curds to snack on. 😂 Thanks for the amazing hospitality, you have a really unique and special spot. We can’t wait to come back and will definitely be booking a cabin for the weekend next fall!

The restaurant was beautiful, but we didn't eat here on a Friday night without a reservation. Bad decision not to call ahead.

Great food, great service, great view!

We had such an amazing time! Bryan and Stacey are gracious hosts and very accommodating to their guests. The cabin (Northern Gnome) was everything we had hoped for and then some. If you are looking for a peaceful and secluded getaway to enjoy some quiet time and explore nature, this is most certainly the place to go. The on-site liquor store came in very handy, and we thought the restaurant (and staff) were top notch! The food and cocktails were spot on, and the service was excellent! We definitely plan to come back and visit again. Highly recommended A+

We got in late after being turned away from another restaurant- Poplar came through! They were SLAMMED but we still got fed excellent food with kind service.

We had Poplar Haus provide food for an event we were having up on the trail and to say it was FANTASTIC would be an understatement! Great food, great people and great views - definitely a favorite for us.

Never been inside "officially" but I have used their porta potty it's very conveniently located. They also have several propane tanks on the property ranging from 120gallons all the way to 2 linked 1000s CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!?! Well anyway I hope this helps!

This place would get 5 stars from me for the food alone. The view from the dining room is the cherry on top. I had the shepherds pie which was sublime.

Coziest cabin and the kindest, most generous hosts. We spent a long weekend birthday celebration in Pineview cabin and enjoyed another excellent meal and cocktails at the restaurant. The owner and staff clearly take pride in the atmosphere they create & the hospitality they provide. Poplar Haus is the perfect place to get away and enjoy all the things that make the Gunflint Trail a magical place.

This is the main place we go out to eat whenever up at my brother's cabin. The food is amazing. We love the atmosphere and drinks.

I honestly do not know what was better...the cabin, the food or the hospitality of these wonderful people. Absolutely incredible week with such a great staff they have at the Poplar Haus. I will definitely be going back here again for years to come.

We live in Lakeville, Mn and decided to spend my birthday in Grand Marais. We stopped at Poplar Haus and let me say it has the best decor, warming, welcoming, excellent food. It has a Minneapolis feel in the north woods. Such an amazing place. Food is spectacular, pool table, games, we played Candy Land, they have merchandise to take home. Such a friendly welcome, service is spectacular, and you honestly don’t want to leave. We are looking forward to another trip to stay in the cabins and enjoy up north life. I’d recommend to everyone this is a place to make a stop. They also have gluten free buns and options for gluten free. The food is amazing.

Come for the drinks, stay for the food. A great spot a bit off the beaten path. This has become a staple when visiting the north shore.

Outstanding! We rode our snowmobiles up from Two Harbors and upon arrival our cabin lights were on, it was perfectly set, and very clean. We got settled and then had a spectacular dinner by the fire in the lodge. I love a nice burger or pizza along the trail after a good days ride, but at Poplar it is so much more as their menu was spectacular! After dinner, lit a fire in the cabin and relaxed for the evening...perfect. Could have easily spent the next day relaxing with the great view over the lake, but back on the trail at 9am and another 150 mile day back down the shore. Perfect trails from end to end of our trip!

They were very unwelcoming to snowmobilers. There were 11 of us and they were jerks from the get-go. Told us we couldn't sit in certain areas and kicked us out because 2 people in our group took a short nap- narcolepsy. We spent $300 and they asked us to leave. Very pretentious. Went to Big Bear - Awesome place! Go there. Also, Trail Center has great food and are very welcoming.

We tried the duck wings, mac and cheese, and poutine all were excellent! We also enjoyed a couple cocktails which were great as well. We’ve overlooked this stop on previous visits but it’s so worth the trip out. Our waitress was very friendly and made the experience even better. Highly recommend!

We've had the Poplar Haus on our hit list for the past few years, but struggled to find a weekend that aligned with our families busy school, work and sports calendars. The stars aligned the weekend of the Gunflint Mail Run sled dog races, which was the perfect opportunity to check this winter paradise off our list. We were welcomed by a warm and cozy cabin with spectacular views of Poplar Lake, one of the snowiest lakes along Gunflint Trail. We bundled up and enjoyed a hike around the lake every morning while watching sled dog teams starting their journey down Gunflint Trail. It's tough to pinpoint just a few highlights of this family friendly destination, but any highlight must start with the owners, Bryan and Stacy. They were wonderful hosts and we truly felt like part of their Gunflint Trail family. From the care and attention that's put into the menu in the restaurant, to the expertly curated music selection (both in the lodge, as well as in our Pineview cabin!) to the cozy fireplace and artwork adorning the walls, every detail was carefully thought out. We were so sad to leave Gunflint Trail, even the kids begged for just a "few" more nights at Poplar Haus! We've already booked our next stay and can't wait to get back up north. Gunflint Trail is an absolute gem of not only Minnesota, but of the US and we highly recommend a stay at Poplar Haus. You won't regret it! I'd be remiss to skip over their cocktail program - it's heaven for any cocktail connoisseur! We enjoyed every single drink on their menu (over the course of 4 days) and were pleasantly surprised when the shot-ski made an evening appearance. I wasn't sure what we were expecting, but the bar has been set really high by the Poplar Haus when it comes to dining and customer service on the Trail. Trust me, I realize how glowing this review is. Hopefully you read it, and think it's been fabricated - so we can keep this gem of a destination to ourselves! ;) We'll be back! Great food and an awesome view over Poplar Lake from their deck. What a great place to relax for a drink and a meal after a long day of hiking or canoeing. I love how along the Trail each restaurant, of which there are few, has their own unique vibe and thing to offer. Worth trying every restaurant, and Poplar Haus is definitely worth it.

The food was really good. We ordered the duck wings, squash ravioli and walleye chowder with a few drinks. The view off the deck was amazing.

Really loved the Modist brewing beer I had, but the but the bouncer that wouldn’t let our party of 8 in before our table was ready was a buzz kill. Who doesn’t let people in the bar to wait for the table? Made us use the port-a-potty outside in 50 degree weather while we waited. Loser. Place was empty upstairs where we could have played pool while we waited.

We visited Poplar Haus again this year. The property and views are amazing. Sunset pic taken on the property and also GOT TO SEE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS! Wow right from Poplar Haus!!! As we hiked and went to Grand Marais I was impressed with as many people as I met who had all positive things to say about Poplar Haus. Everyone brags about the food and so will I…….As we left the northern woods and drove back to Florida we made many stops in different states and continued our vacation and that is when I truly appreciated the attention to detail to the food, the sauces, taste and quality of their food. The chefs, servers, bartenders and staff all work together to create This amazing Restaurant and bar. ( love the beer selection and cocktails) too! Poplar Haus is a must, if visiting Grand Marais and the Gunflint trail!

After nearly a full week of going to mediocre, overpriced places, we finally made the drive to Poplar Haus. I’m so glad we did! Amazing drinks, food, dessert and service. Get the walleye po’ boy and bread pudding. Get any drink on the menu. Just go! Best place in the area by far.

What a beautiful location. A quiet getaway. Great food. The owners were great to work with. The cabins were nice but need work. Several windows would not open to let the fresh air into our cabin. They accept pets which is awesome. We did not fish but it looked beautiful.

I'd live here if I could. Poplar is without a doubt one of my favorite places to visit. The food is phenomenal, the views are stunning, the atmosphere is vibrant, and the staff make you feel like friends and family. 10/10 recommend!

Food was great, but to have a better experience I would recommend: Make reservations. Go with time. They take a long time to bring your food. If you want to be quiet or have conversations, sit outside. It has the most beautiful view. Inside, on a Thursday night there was a singer, that was great, but loud.

I enjoyed this place. It was a good place to stop and the staff was really friendly! It's an interesting building with a gorgeous view of the lake. There's indoor and porch seating overlooking the lake. I enjoyed the cocktails and the food.

Friday night, open seats at the bar and open tables, but told full for the evening....as a property owner on a near by lake and with limited choices on the gunflint, we will be dining elsewhere from now on...

Pretty cool food and cocktail options, seems like a fairly unique place for the area, very chic. They were out of two of the choices we made which was a bit of a bummer given it was just after 5pm when we arrived. The Haus burger was good, but slightly salty, but my biggest gripe was the speed of service. We put in our orders relatively quickly after being seated, two adults and two children took just over two hours for drinks, a meal, and dessert. Given the size of the place and the few people there this seemed excessively long.

This place is fantastic and the staff are amazing. The food is a real treat whether you live on the GFT or just got done on a long camping trip. Do yourself a favor and grab some tots while you're there.

I had the cheese curds and duck wings. the cheese curds: best I've ever had. the duck wings i thought were very good just a little to spicy for me. the veiw is very good. I just wish it had my bathrooms

This place had been on my list for quite some time. Let me say that Poplar Haus did not disappoint! The drive out on the Gunflint Trail was absolutely spectacular. The forest hugs the road making for one of the most beautiful drives I've been on. When you arrive, Poplar Haus is west side of the road and clearly marked. Dip down into their gravel lot and snatch a spot. We headed up he steps into the dining area (There is a wheelchair ramp too) Be prepared for a stunning view of the lake as you find your seat. Take a second to soak it up. I want to rave about the food, but let me take this chance to say that our customer service experience was second to none. The chemistry amongst the crew was evident we it was easy to see that they were as stoked to be there as we were. To eat we ordered Duck Wings, Parm Tots with Curry Ketchup, and The Haus Burger with chips. We drank Foggy Geezer IPAs and Grapefruit Margaritas. Don't sleep on their merchandise either. I grabbed a shirt, a crewneck sweater, and some stickers(**thank you) What a special night. We were absolutely satisfied and cannot think of enough kind words and praise to give the Team at Poplar Haus. When I talk about travel and food Poplar Haus always comes up.
