Believe all the great reviews about this place. I can't remember the last time I was this blown away by a restaurant. I hate to raise the bar of expectations too high, but man, the staff just went above and beyond. They walked us through all our courses with fantastic tailored recommendations. Each course would've been the highlight of a meal anywhere else. But here, all they serve are highlights. We got the Cebiche Mixto which lived up to the hype. Chicharron was pork belly with this purple corn that convinced me that my yellow corn days are over, I'm a purple corn man now! And then the Lomo Saltado was the perfect headliner. The food and drinks alone would've made this place memorable, but what really put it over the top for me was how awesome the staff was. They all were so friendly and helpful and passionate about what they did and made us feel like we were a couple of regulars. And for an irregular guy like myself, it was a welcome change!

Welp, for the first time in my life at almost 40 I choked. I couldnât get my food down, I panicked, and I was 100% choking. I didnât know why, I couldnât swallow my food and it was stuck. Full panic mode, I stood up and tapped the staff on the back to tell them I was choking. The waiter, and chef came over to immediately help me. I awkwardly spit on their floor with the food that was stuck as they helped me. They did it. The uncomfortable, and awkward moment of me choking, they helped and made me feel reassured all was well. Many thanks to you and your staff. I appreciate the help, the reassurance that life is okay and the utmost hospitality during this surreal moment. Thank you.

Holy bejeesus. This place. Is unbelievable. Just stop reading this review and get the CEVICHES. NOW. I canât describe how good this food is without making it sound worse than it is. The staff is profoundly kind, warm, attentive, and incredibly skilled. You can tell they love the food they make, care about each other, and go above whatâs asked of them to make you feel the same. To reiterate my answer to the chefs question âcan you feel the love this was made with?â YES , yes I can. Thank you for the honor of eating the product of your craft. Not only is the food unbelievable, the staff impeccable, the business appears to look out for folks who donât speak English as their first language. Go forth and have your mind blown.

Wait... Did I just find the BEST restaurant in Oakland?!? Yes, I did. Okay so first, the service. I usually start with the food, but this place is exceptional. They greeted me upon arrival and as soon as I said reservation, they called me by name. The whole place was crackling with good vibes and fun music. I install set to challenging them and they didn't blink once. I ordered things, I changed my order, I asked them to order for me, and they just shot me welcoming retorts, kind faces, and fantastic recommendations. I started with a rockfish cebiche, which can be harrowing, but this was sublime. It was accompanied by a small bowl of fried/baked and salted corn kernels. The dish to me a good long time to finish because every bite was an exciting adventure into the sea. The fish bites were perfectly sized and the local seaweeds were packed with flavor. Between bites of tart I popped kernels of salty goodness that brought out entirely new flavors from the dish. For the entree I was served a variety of fried shrimp and white fish with sauteed squid over a salty bed of beans and rice. A delicate white wine and mint reduction over the top added layers of flavor that were simply, and delightfully, unique. The shrimp were served with heads on and every crunchy bite was fresh and tasty. None of the seafood was over done or salted, which paired perfectly with the salty bed. The ambiance, the party in my mouth, the frankly attractive server: what a pleasure. I will be back and I'll tell all my friends. Thank you, Pucquio đđŁ I'm hooked.

My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary I am South American so trust me a bit when I say the food was not great our lomo saltado was very undercooked even for medium rare, very chewy our arroz marinero so so salty and these 2 dishes took over an hour to come out, on top of that it was cold and they sat us outside with no working heaters during winter. Our 2 dishes + one very mediocre app were over $100. There are much better Peruvian or South American places around donât come here unless you got the money or maybe you will like it if you are unfamiliar with Peruvian/South American flavors but not for me I am very sorry as the service was good.

Amazing. Just amazing. We ordered the ceviche de pescado, chicharrĂłn, pulpo a la parilla, and the lomo saltado and I recommend every single one of them. The white sangria (had peaches and maracuya) tasted great. The place only had one waiter though. You have to be really patient but at the end the food was just so good, it was impossible to feel frustrated by the wait times.

A Peruvian friend recommended us to Pucquio as real authentic Peruvian cuisine. We only tried two dishes as I was full from a Chinese banquet earlier that day. We had one of the cebiches which was more in the sushi style, i.e. not swimming in lime juice. Very fresh, felt like we were eating the sea. Then we shared the pulled chicken over rice with a boiled egg. That doesn't sound terribly inspiring, I'm sure there was more to the description, but it was sublime comfort food. The egg was a perfect 6 minute egg which commingled with the sauce and it was so very good. The restaurant is small, and one waiter but he was amazing and handled everything with grace, speed and knowledge. He brought me a great white to have with the chicken and even explained how to do a 6 minute egg which my husband tried the next morning, successfully! The chef was right there; he brought out some dishes to other diners. I had the feeling of being in the countryside in Peru and happened upon the best restaurant in the country. The space is cozy and they have some parkelt space too. But since the space is cozy, we were able to talk with each of our neighbors on either side. They all loved what they got, so we will def go back!

I found the food seriously inedible, especially cooked ones. The ceviche is fine and tasty but both the pulpo and the seafood rice dish were repulsive to me. I think there is a seaweed flavor that does it for pulpo but even going beyond that issue the texture is either crumbly (for shrimp), too hard (for pulpo) or overcooked (for fish). The squid wasnât particularly well cleaned either and the oil used in rice was unpleasant too. The kitchen needs someone who knows what they are doing.

Unfortunately, the food was subpar. The ceviche we got was really good. But the pork shoulder and "paella" underwhelming. The pork was dry and tasteless, and the shrimp in the paella was tough and chewy. Very sad. The drinks we great though! The pisco sour had just enough sweetness and the Rose Brut from Argentina was incredibly smooth. Overall a great dining experience. But for the price, the food just wasn't quite there.

As always, the food was delicious. We were a bit disappointed, however, because my husband's Lomo Saltado was cool, rather than piping hot as it should have been. I ordered 2 appetizers, one I specified would be my main dish, but they came together. That, as it turned out, was OK, because it was nice and hot. The appetizers were papa a la huancaina which they do spectacularly - the potatoes are fried, not boiled, but not at all greasy and the sauce really delicious - and the pulpo which had a delicious huacatay sauce and was cooked to perfection. Their prices have gone up (like everywhere, right?), so we are not able to be "regulars" at Pucquio which we wish we could be. We have to save it for special nights out.

The food was fantastic. We started with papitas w/ huancaina sauce. The potatoes included 3 different varieties And they were prepared perfectly, probably in a hot oven rather than fried. The seasoning was light herbs. The huancaina thick and delicious. Next we had ceviche clasico. Perfecto! And that says a lot since we often make ceviche at home. For main dishes we had lomo saltado, (good cut of beef, weâll balanced seasoning , and delicious fries) ajĂ de gallina (well prepared), tiradito and arroz con mariscos (the rice was fantastic, blackened with squid ink, and yummy large prawns and fresh fish). All were delicious, although the friend who ordered tiradito was disappointed because of the portion size.
