Rafagino is a neighbor gem not to be missed, Recently, our group of 5 celebrated birthdays on a Saturday evening. We were all impressed with the entire staff, our wines, appetizers, entrees - made to order from scratch Italian delicacies, and our desserts. Desserts were presented to our birthday celebrants with a candle, lights were dimmed, and many in the restaurant took part in singing Happy Birthday. A truly moving experience. Best of all, we were never rushed to finish our stay, in order to flip the table. They were there for us. Thank you to all at Rafagino!

Definitely try this place. We tried d calamari app and was fresh n great. Entrees came out hot n well seasoned, lamb was soft off d bone n d stuffed shrimp awesome! Service was great and everyone polite n patient. Will go back again!

I don’t usually have high hopes for restaurants in Burke but was pleasantly surprised at our experience. Meal was really tasty and the flavors were complex, service was great, I enjoyed the ambience. Will definitely be back!

After 11 hours traveling, Rafagino was recommended as a great place for wonderful, authentic Italian food with a wide, varied selection of vineyards. This not only answered that description, it went way beyond that. From the warm welcome at the door, food so amazing it could possibly be described as a near occasion for sin, to service that was immediate but never intrusive. This restaurant would be worth relocating to the area in order to become a regulat! TEN STARS!!!

I have been to many great restaurants but I rarely have a great top tier first impression with a restaurant. The food here has a really nice rich bite to it and is very well made and well served. All the waiters were really nice and friendly and welcoming. Overall the place was really good. This is a place I would definitely come back to sometime in the future.

Finally decided to try this place after living here for several years. Slipped out for an impromptu date night without the kids, and we were able to get a quick taste of our recent trip to Italy! It was very unexpected and very welcomed! The customer service was perfection, and the portions were huge (American-sized; definitely not Italian portions!) Fabulous balsamic and the beef carpaccio was perfect!

Rafagino’s never disappoints! We were a party of four celebrating a significant birthday. Everything was perfect; the staff caters to guests to make a memorable occasion! Food, drink, service : exquisite!

The food service and atmosphere is top notch and the dishes are the best I’ve ever had. I come to Rafeginos on every occasion. Plus the owners are very nice and welcoming. If I could give Rafeginos more stars, I absolutely would.

We are long time patrons of Rafaginos. The owners have become friends over the years and we love pretty much everything on the menu. Among our favorites- bocconcini, mussels, carpaccio, tuna tartare, arugula salad, veal picatta al limone, veal chop, ossobuco, salmon al forno, linguini al frutti di mare and carbonara. No dinner is complete without a bottle of wine from their great offerings and finish with the best tiramisu we have ever found.

Just an amazing beautiful atmosphere, with exquisite service and wonderful authentic Italian cuisine. Owner is an awesome person who will greet you personally and check in on you and your guests pro actively. The waiters are courteous and on top of everything. I wish I could dine there every night! I will definitely go back.

Visited after being intrigued by its high praise for Italian cuisine. The dishes were good, offering a taste of Italy. The main issue we encountered was the slow service; it took 39 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. Additionally, the service throughout our meal felt inattentive, unlike other reviewers. While the food provided the desired Italian flavors, the overall dining experience was somewhat dampened by these service shortcomings.

Truly a hidden gem! Our favorite place to celebrate a special event or even a special date night. Their special monthly regional dinners and wine pairing are spectacular! Have never been disappointed! Paulo is an incredible host and his wife Rosa is an amazing chef. He makes you feel special. We highly recommend this wonderful family owned, one of a kind restaurant!

I have eaten here twice and the food has been amazing both times. The atmosphere and the service were also stellar. It is not a mom and Pop place. It is fine dining in a comfortable but classy atmosphere and a relatively small venue. It is amazing. It is what it is. It is a rare find!

Superb service! I don't usually write reviews but I ate here on a whim with my wife and father in-law. I will start off by saying the service and waitstaff were superb. Everyone was very attentive, congenial, and welcoming. There are a few easy things that could make this a 5 star review one of which being the table bread that is brought out. The bread was perfectly fine but could be better quality and perhaps warmed if just to make it appear fresh baked. (doesn't need to be fresh baked but you can lie to us a little to make us believe it was, place it under a heat lamp perhaps) The single serving butters that come in a little plastic container kind of takes away from the atmosphere a little. I know they are easy and convenient but comes off as cheap and doesn't fit with the overall aesthetic the rest of the restaurant gives off. Overall the experience was great and again the waitstaff was tops. Just a few minor adjustments to make you believe you are in an authentic Italian village restaurant.

Our family has been coming here for way over 20 years. This is our go to spot for family celebrations. The food is consistently excellent. Palo and his wife, Rosa have made this restaurant a local institution. Palo is the host and Rosa makes all the desserts. I typically don't have desert, but I do at Rafagino's. My favorite meal here is the chicken marsala or veal picada. When we are there, I make sure to pick up a bottle of their wonderful homemade balsamic vinaigrette.

I will join a few others who were not thoroughly impressed with this restaurant. First, the positives. The owner/host was charming and obviously interested in pleasing his customers. The servers were attentive and professional. The atmosphere is quaint/charming, although some of the tables are a bit small. My disappointment with the restaurant is the prices that it charges for mediocre food. For three of us, including tip, the meal came to over $200. Yes. We each had cocktails. It took a half hour from when we were seated to receive any bread. The bread was accompanied by little plastic tubs of butter, the kind you find in diners. The bread tasted as if it was picked up at the supermarket. Because there was such a time lag in receiving bread and no one told us it was coming (and we had a hungry teen with us), we decided to order bruschetta to start. We also ordered a caprese salad ($13) and a garden salad ($13). Interestingly, all three items were very similar, in that they contained mostly arugula drizzled with balsamic vinegar. The bruschetta seemed to have more seasoning and was satisfying. The salads could have used some fresh herbs and seasoning. All in all, too much balsamic vinegar. It would have been better if they had given us olive oil with our bread and drizzled some balsamic in the oil, and then made a different light, herbaceous vinegarette for the salads. One of us ordered eggplant parmesan ($21). The menu does not tell you that the eggplant comes with a side of linguini. Given that the menu is written as if everything is a la carte, this was at least a nice little surprise, although in keeping with other restaurants. However, the accompanying tomato sauce had little depth. It tasted of tartness and nothing else, as if it came from a can with no effort to add the proper herbs/seasoning. The eggplant was pasty due to residual uncooked flour. Very disappointing. Others in our party had better luck with their dishes ordering broiled salmon (although the portion was less than generous) for $24 and shrimp scampi for $23. We also ordered two desserts, which we agreed were just okay. Even considering that we ordered cocktails, I do not expect a dinner for three in a small, suburban strip mall restaurant to cost over $200 ($170 plus tip) unless they have the food to back it up. I hope that Rafagino considers lowering its prices or elevating its cooking, or perhaps a little of both.

You might not even notice this Hidden Gem in Burke. Rafagino is a great higher end Italian restaurant in a corner of a strip mall. Once your enter, the wonderful, cozy atmosphere and excellent service helps to round out a menu full of Italian classics and specials. A great wine, spirits, and beer selection helps to round out your meal.

We have eaten at Rafagino many times. Paulo and his staff are welcoming, attentive and professional. I love the eggplant parmesan. The tomatoe sauce is strong and flavorful. The stuffed shrimp with lobster sauce is also wonderful. We will continue to come back.

My friends and I went out for my birthday yesterday and had a fabulous time. I ordered the Paella, and they order the chicken Parmesan and the veal Marsala. We all raved about our choices. The bread and the salads were also very good. Loved the tiramisu and they loved the limoncello cake. Service was also wonderful!

We went to this amazing restaurant last night with our family who live in this area!! What a wonderful experience Service & food were of 5 star quality! If you have not tried this place, you are missing out. We have been to Italy and the food & experience is the same, truly amazing!! My wife and I and our two adult children had dinner here last night. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive and pleasant. Fairly priced wine list too. The owner is present, engages with the customers, and appreciates your business. We will be back.

Went for a 5:30PM dinner in order to beat the rush. Before I get into this, I want to say that the wait staff were exceptional (except tell the water people to chill out - I don't need water every 5 minutes and it becomes disruptive). In talking with the owner personally, Rafagino has been in business for 28 years and has sentimental value to the locals. People have had their weddings in this place. It is with this in mind and without the sentiment (as a local but a first-timer) that I write this review. 1. At a price point of about $60/person, I don't think it's unfair to have a certain level of expectation when it comes to the quality of the food. Our meal began by being presented with a baguette that was clearly from Safeway next door, and butter in the little single-use plastic containers. Absolutely unforgivable to not have fresh bread at an Italian place. 2. Appetizers were extremely small which is fine at a Michelin-starred establishment, not so fine at around $12 a piece, and not when they were of "eh" quality. Specifically, the bocconcini were flooded in (an admittedly tasty) balsamic dressing, but the mozz balls had melted which turned the entire thing into a soup, more or less. 3. The caesar salad, once again, suffered from a lack of quality. The croutons were from a bag clearly, there wasn't enough dressing, and the romaine was not cut to avoid large portions of stem. These are very simple concepts that even Olive Garden would get right. 4. I had veal picata as my entree. The pasta was from a box, which at this point I expected but thought would be a cardinal sin at a reputable Italian restaurant. The veal itself was not butchered with care and contained more gristle than I would like, which is zero. 5. The atmosphere that other reviewers have lauded left me scratching my head, because there literally isn't one. It's a very small space that is dim (and not in a good way), the chairs are rock hard and not conducive to staying very long, and the whole establishment suffers greatly from a lack of ambience to distract from how closely you're crammed in there with other guests. Overall, this was probably the most unfortunate restaurant I've been to in Burke. I think it is propped up and kept running by locals having what I presume to be pre-Covid memories of the place, but if you're thinking of visiting for the first time, I highly suggest going up the road to Villa Bella instead.

The chicken parmesan was delicious, however the tiramisu and lava cake were both letdowns. We ordered the tiramisu because there was a sign on the wall saying “best tiramisu in Burke 2021”, however the flavor was so strong that my husband could not even finish it. The lava cake was acceptable, but I wouldn’t really call it a lava cake. It did not have any lava in the middle, it was just like a heated up brownie. On top of that, the desserts were pretty expensive and small!

First time trying very good food tastes authentic and amazing service.

Our reservation was for 11 and the restaurant also had wine/dinner tasting event during our visit., The entire staff and the chef never missed a beat and the service, food, wine were all outstanding.

Only reason this place is getting a big rating is because of the service. They waiters were all extremely professional and courteous, it truly felt like I was in a random restaurant in Italy. However, the food was not. I forgot the dishes names but they were all bland. The calamari was not a hit, and the tomato sauce dish didn't have much pasta. The mushroom steak dish was definitely the better of the three.

Very delicious and professional staff

They deserve a Michelin Star. This is old world Italian food and private club service. Expect to have a luxurious 5-course meal, great conversation and to leave feeling content and at peace. We shared brushetta and a Ceasars salad- both were excellent. Get the chicken parmesan. It is perfect. Enjoy the prosecco, and order one of the magnificent desserts. I loved the lemonchello cake, but my wife's almond amaretto cake nearly stole the night. While you can wear jeans and a t-shirt, dress up. This meal, the staff and proprietor will earn your business. I felt like I was back in Sicily.

This small Italian restaurant is tucked into the corner of a shopping center, so plenty of parking. They greet you warmly at the door and are very attentive. The ambience is cozy. My meal looked delicious but had no flavor. My husband‘s meal was good enough but nothing to rave about and although he asked for red sauce he got white. Meals are in the mid to high price range, no lunchtime options. The desserts were delicious, the chocolate fudge cake is to die for! I would suggest that you come here for a dessert date.

We visited Rafagino today and we were impressed with the service, the food, the restaurant and the employees. What an lovely experience my husband, and I had today. We're hard to pleased and they went above and beyond! We highly recommend it.

Rafaginos is our families favorite spot! Everything on their menu is delicious and their food never fails to impress! I would recommend the tiramisu, AMAZING! Their waitstaff is equally excellent, friendly, and makes you feel at home. Love this restaurant!

Hit or miss Italian in a dated strip mall location. My entree (ravioli) was delicious but my daughter’s (chop) was terrible, others ran that gamut.

Great traditional Italian food and dining.

I don't usually write reviews, but this place is just wonderful and I'm lucky to have it nearby. Don't be fooled by the strip mall location, the food and service are excellent, the wine list is phenomenal, and the owner seems to be a genuinely warm person who takes pride in making the restaurant and experience wonderful for his guests. It is also a great value, but that is more of a cherry on top of a delicious sundae that already made you forget about the price. I've lived all over DC metro and this is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the entire area. If you live nearby and aren't frequenting Rafagino, you're doing it wrong.

Nice staff and friendly. You can tell they have some good regulars which is nice. The menu is a little on the small side, and price on the higher side. But food and staff were great.

My husband & I went for dinner with another couple in December. We had a table inside. The restaurant was very clean & all of the staff were wearing masks. We had no worries about eating here. The food was delicious. I had the stuffed shrimp and my husband had the lasagna. Shared a bottle of wine with our friends. We ordered a cannoli to share for dessert plus I enjoyed a cup of cappuccino. Service was excellent. This was a perfect place to meet friends for a relaxing evening.

The owners work at the restaurant. Husband and Wife; the wife is the chef and the Husband works the front of the house. Lots of regulars. We enjoy their food and where happy to find they were still open durning the pandemic. Best pasta I have ever had! Love this place. Always greated with a Welcome Back! Always a nice experience!

Great Restaurant! My wife and I eat here several times a year and we recently tried their monthly dinner and it was FANTASTIC. A five course meal with wine pared with each course. Paulo (the owner) know's how to expertly pair the wine (much better than me) with the course! His wife, Rosa, is a fantastic chef! We'll happily eat here again!

Hands down the best Italian food in the DMV. The service, attention to detail, atmosphere, and friendliness of the owners and servers are impeccable and wonderful. Every visit, I have been treated like a special guest. The fish, meat, and pasta dinners are wonderful as the deserts. Rafagino deserves a six-star rating.

This neat Italian place has been providing good food and wine in Burke for twenty-five years. We have eaten there maybe twenty times, but we've moved away and this was our first return in several years. They serve a wide variety of North Italian food cooked as you would find in Italy today. The appetizers were unique (sardines etc.) and very well presented. All the main courses were very good. Service was excellent. The owner even remembered what wines I had liked several years ago. Prices were lower than we expected. Service was excellent.

This restaurant is a little hard to find because it is hidden in the corner of a small shopping center at 9570 Old Keene Mill Rd, Burke, Virginia. This gem is worth the effort to find this little five-star, romantic bit of Northern Italian dining. Rafagino is an authentic taste of Northern Italian good cooking in an idealistic setting. We were quickly seated at a pristine table for two. Our waiter was friendly, quick, and efficient. He carefully described the carte du jour choices. We observed the dining room as small, spotless and romantically comfortable. Warm bread was served. We ordered and our waiter was with us throughout the evening being most pleasant, spot on, and attentive. The time between each course serving was only few minutes and the table was cleared of used plates each time ensuring the table was always fresh without clutter. Our dinners looked great, cook to perfection, and tasted better. This is a wonderful Italian restaurant with excellent food at a fair cost. The restaurant had a low noise level. Every table was very clean, and each table was sanitized after the people left. This bit of Italy is only open for dinner. There is Free public parking is directly in front of the restaurant. The kitchen is completely hidden behind a beautiful wine racks display so there is no sound from the cooking and your quiet romantic dinner is not disturbed. Service was excellent. My wife and I had dinner there and we were really impressed with the level and quality of service. We ordered a cease salad and Beef carpaccio for appetizers. Both were very tasty and presented well. For entrees we ordered the gemelli homemade pasta with shrimp and and the linguine with shrimp and mussels in white sauce. Both dishes were really good. The shrimp and mussels were cooked to perfection and the gemelli pasta was very tasty. I was not impressed with the linguine pasta though. For desert we had a canole which was very good. Their espresso was delicious. Overall we really liked the restaurant and staff. We will be back for sure

We visited Rafagino’s for Valentine’s Day, and evening though the restaurant was full, we were greeted by the owner, Paola and seated right on time. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and elegant all at the same time. But the highlight, of course, was the outstanding Italian food. From tender veal dishes to seafood or pasta, everything was outstanding! The Caesar salad is without equal, and the desserts were incredible. My favorite was the almond cream cake topped off with a perfect cappuccino! Can’t wait to go back!

Went on the last Sunday of the month which is when they have their 5 course dinner with wine event. Always excellent. Very nice restaurant hidden away in a strip mall so many people don’t know about it.

This is my "go to place" whenever I wish to celebrate or to treat ourselves to something special. The host, and the wait staff, is very attentive and the food is always excellent. We just love their desserts. I highly recommend Rafagino's... a gem in a strip mall.

This is just the sweetest little restaurant tucked into the corner of a shopping center. I believe it was the owner who greeted us at the door and made us feel very welcome. Service is top notch. My only problem was the menu is a bit too sophisticated for us...we're not foodies. :) Most of the dishes contained seafood or shellfish, which I don't normally associate with Italian. Anyway, it was probably a one-timer for us, but would make an excellent choice for more sophisticated palettes.

This place is a gem in the area. I took my wife and a few friends to celebrate her birthday and Rafagino's didn't disappoint. The attention we received was special. Everything we ordered was delicious and we shared bites with everyone. the Linguini al Frutto di Mare was delicious and all the sea food was cooked perfectly, even the calamari. The shrimp in the Gemelli Mare e Monti were cooked perfectly tender and melt in your mouth. It was a fabulous dinner topped of with the best tasting Canollis ever.

A hidden gem in Burke! Authentic Italian food, excellent service and a good atmosphere. This is the perfect spot for family gatherings and celebrations. They also have delicious cannolis, which is hard to find in this area!

Great people, great food, great place!

Having dined in this fine restaurant on several occasions, my nephew, Rick and I wanted this to be the place where we held his mother's very special birthday celebration. Paulo worked hand-in-hand with Rick to help pull off an early afternoon party for 38 guests--some extremely finicky I might add! Every detail was meticulously worked out. The wait-staff were excellent, circulating quietly, ensuring every guest was well accommodated. Rosa oversaw the delivery of a wide variety of meal choices. Nobody came away from this event with anything less to say about Rafagino, other than it was excellent. As an aside, I'd like to add that my wife Diana and I have both traveled and lived in Italy. Independent of one another, we concluded that Rosa's tiramisu was hands-down the best we'd ever had. My family and I wish to thank Paulo and Rosa, and their staff, for helping us stage a memorable and beautiful event. If you're looking for the run-of-the-mill Italian restaurant, this most definitely is not it!

Dined there as guests of long-time friends who were back in town for just a few days. Reservations for 5 for dinner. Greeted and seated right on time. Orders taken and service was terrific. Drinks, dinner and desserts were top notch. Class place - very professional wait staff - linen tablecloth and napkins. Cocktails spot on. Definitely consider Rafaginos for someting a bit special.

Fantastic wine dinner tonight! Service, food and wine were exceptional! My favorites were the rolled rib eye steak with prosciutto and mozzarella topped with mushrooms, and the burratta salad with arugula and tomatoes. The stuffed calamari with Black olives and capers was an amazing unexpected pleasure. The pasta was a homemade trofie pasta with pulled pork ribs in a red wine-based tomato sauce that was superb. Dessert was a strawberry tiramisu! Need I say more! Excellent wine pairing as well! Excellent evening!

My husband and I have been frequenting this lovely and cozy restaurant for several years now. Sometimes life gets busy and we will miss a few months but once things slow down again we are right back in for date nights. The food is consistent and delightful, atmosphere is low light and romantic, staff is attentive and friendly, and finally the owner, Paulo, is always a phenomenal host. Start with the bocconcini then relax and stay for a cappuccino and bread pudding! Thanks to everyone there for many a lovely night!

Pasta was perfect Al dente, rest of dinner was best we had experienced outside of numerous trips to Italy. Only downside was slow serving of courses. Restaurant was full however--so maybe earlier--5:00 pm--or later--after 7:00pm--seatings. Definitely a return visit is indicated.

I have been going to this restaurant for 15 years and its my go to place for important dates. My wife's first choice for date night. Owners remember you and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and enjoy your evening. Food is out of this world! A prime spot.

An absolutely EXCELLENT authentic Italian Restaurant! The food is absolutely wonderful and the staff is truly Excellent! The owner and manager, Paulo Carvalho, is really wonderful person and a great host. He personally introduces himself to each guest, and seats them himself. Also, the atmosphere is the very romantic, with soft lighting and soft music. It is truly a wonderfully excellent experience!

My family and I have been coming to Rafagino's for nearly 20 years. The owners have provided a welcoming, warm and romantic setting for their clientele. The wait staff is impeccably trained/attentive and the food is first class. Five stars!!!
