Absolutely delicious enchilada. Service was supreme. Love this place!!

We’ve always had a great meal here.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. We got fajitas and split one portion between two of us, leaving very full still! We’ve been here and found out their rice has dairy, which my wife and I can’t eat, so we were a little disappointed we couldn’t be accommodated, but other than that, the food was really good! The staff is really friendly as well!

Go here every time we get to Boyne and we love it. Great kids menu, good food, service is wonderful

I wish I could give it a 10! I love Mexican food, but having visited many regions of Mexico for work over the years, I KNOW good Mexican food. And although Red Mesa does still have small American twists to their food, it is GLORIOUS! The carnitas, shredded chicken and shredded beef were all mouth watering. The beans and rice are also very flavorful. We had the 3 enchilada and 3 taco meals. The meats are so well seasoned. The portion size are great. The food is fresh and the prices are on point for the quality of food. We live in Gaylord and have been going to a local (better than average) Mexican restaurant, but this is our new go-to by far. We plan to try the Red Mesa in Boyne as well. The ambiance is on point and the service was good. Be sure to try Red Mesa; your money will be well spent!

After years of saying “we should try that place”, tonight we took the plunge. Safe to say, now we’re chastising ourselves for not going sooner! 😂 The food was incredible and Leah was a fantastic server! The Coconut Mojito is one of the best I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back!

We’ve been here at least once every time we have visited Boyne, which is a lot. We will not be back. Ever. Our service was terrible, and the food was horrible. Stephanie, our server, managed to get drinks to a table of 8 people before she got our drinks to us— a party of three adults and two little ones— even though we were seated first. My husband could not drink his Casa Margarita. He said it tasted like chemicals. I tasted it. Seemed like it had been sitting around and all of the salt that he asked for had melted down into the drink. When he told Stephanie he couldn't drink it and ordered a Patron, she did not take it off the check. Stephanie brought my son’s entree ten minutes after my husband and I were served ours. My husband ate part of one of his three tacos (served cold), and I only had to take a couple of bites of steak from my Churrascurro Bowl before knowing I wasn’t going to be able to eat any more of it (also served cold) because it tasted just… wrong. My son ate all of the chicken from his chicken fajitas, but the platter still looked like he had hardly eaten anything; it was mostly onions and peppers. At least his was hot. No one ate the chips and salsa. Usually, everyone fills up on chips and salsa— but these were not good. We were ready to leave for so long that my son left with his tired little ones while my husband and I stayed to pay the bill. When Stephanie brought it, I handed her my credit card. I didn’t want to wait any longer. The last thing we’d asked her for was a bottle of beer, which took 15 minutes. She brought back a check that I DID look over— $39.99 for chicken fajitas!!! We waited to see her pass by again, and then I told my husband we’d get her on the way out. I found Stephanie standing at the bar. I said, “$39.99 for chicken fajitas? They’re not that much.” She looked at our bill for a few seconds and then mumbled that there must be something wrong with the computer. I waited a while for her after finding a chair to sit in by the servers’ computers. Stephanie had disappeared. When she came back several minutes later, she said that under Fajitas, there’s a Sunday Funday option, but “IT’S ALL FIXED NOW.” I looked at her, and she said, “Sunday Funday is just a bigger order. But IT’S ALL FIXED NOW.” The fajitas were then $21.99 on my second check.. I tipped her $20 on a $125 check, which I thought was cutting her short. I should have cut her tip shorter. Her service was horrible, and she pretended not to know what could have possibly gone wrong. She knew. Open questions I will never know the answer to: How often does this happen at Red Mesa Grill? Does it only happen to people Stephanie serves? Does handing over a credit card without looking at the bill affect this? Does having drunk two margaritas affect what is on the bill that is brought to one to sign after one has not looked at the bill? After getting back, I looked up Sunday Funday. Another question: how does one make this mistake at all, much less on a summer Friday when Stroll the Streets is in full swing?

Actually the best meal we had in the entire Charlevoix - Petoskey - Boyne area and also one of the least expensive. Everything from the salsa that came with the chips to the Aztec Chicken entree that I ordered was very tasty and the service was very efficient.

The experience was less the mediocre. We dined on 8/14/24 for dinner. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was poor. Lack of smiles from staff, no music, no fun. The food lacked much if the Mexican flavors you should expect. Personally, I had the three taco diner. A chicken, beef, and pork. The beef was as standard as you can get. Nothing special - just a larger portion of taco bell. The chicken was ok. The best was the pork with pineapple salsa. None of the food tastes fresh. Chipotle gives better portions, cheaper, and more flavor. We won't be back the next time we vacation this way.

Coming from Texas, it was odd to ho for Mexican this far north. But what an incredible experience. First off, the chips were handmade, and the salsa was nice and thick and chunky. Had the enchiladas it actually had some spicy heat, so awesome. Highly recommend

I used to love this place. Not anymore. We came in on a Monday afternoon. Waited forever for drinks. My husband’s Paloma was wrong when it arrived- I think they made some vodka pink lemonade?? Def not a Paloma though the menu lists palomas. The queso fundido was just white queso - possibly might have even been jarred grocery store queso - lukewarm. The chips were stale. The Baja tacos were inedible. Truly. Overly fried indeterminate (not grouper) fish and the tortillas came straight out of a package, not even heated up. The black beans were cold and might’ve been dumped from a can onto the plate. It reminded me of a weeknight dinner I might make in a huge rush if I got home late from work, had forgotten to grocery shop, and really just needed to just throw stuff on a plate to stop my kids from melting down. The two stars are due to the server was a nice kid even though the kitchen was slow, my daughter liked her steak burrito , and the salsa was ok. Sadly, we will not be back.

Red Mesa was on our bike ride mid point to Petoskey. They were cool and allowed us to park our bikes inside: TY! We both had tacos and loved the mesquite smoked rice. The beans were perfectly cooked and the guacamole was freshly made. Perfect fuel for our ride!

I get the "we don't have staff" problem. However none of the three entrees we ordered were up to the Red Mesa standard I am used to. Even the salsa and chips tasted store bought. I doubt I will eat there again, next time I'll try happy taco.

Big disappointment wow chips were hard as heck almost stale like!! Took food to long to get to our table and looked like a very small ice cream scoop shaped ball of bean and rice as our sides lol. Barely warm food not worth $18. Not busy at all so what’s happening in Boyne City Red Mesa? Need to try somewhere else !

Overpriced. Chicken tortilla soup was chicken broth with not much else. Margarita are Overpriced, they're really cheapening things up. They switched salsas a while back, it's bland, and tastless

Always good food, stopped in during Boyne Thunder and beat the crowd. Great Latino salad and tacos. Excellent service, friendly staff... Reasonably priced.

Server was amazing.. ordered a burger..they charged a dollar a piece for a small slice of pickle dollar for a sliver of lettuce and a dollar for 2 half slivers of onion that was flavorless. Is that even possible lol. Burger didn't even fill the bun and it was pink inside. 20 dollars. Sickening... never going back

Probably the best Mexican food we’ve had, everything had so much flavor! The smoked beans were incredible, salsa and guacamole were top notch, quesadilla and tacos were all phenomenal as well. There were so many things of the menu we wanted to get, we’ll be back!

Steak fajitas are awesome! Really nice restaurant, friendly service, great food. Highly recommended, and it is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, lots of seating.

Absolutely delicious food! Their salsa was spectacular and their coconut shrimp was breaded in real coconut with fresh shrimp. The shredded beef burrito, and the Tinga chicken taco was also delicious. Would highly recommend this place!! Full of flavor, fair prices, and excellent service.

My boyfriend and I came out to eat here the other night and oh my goodness it was spectacular. The food at the red mesa has always been some of my favorite in town, I’m loving the inclusions on the new menu, and our server was amazing. Our servers name was Austin and he did a wonderful job taking care of us, he was so polite and made sure to be right on top of everything. All in all a great experience and I very highly recommend the mesa to anyone who’s never been.

We went to the red Mesa on recommendation from friends. They had specials for the Morel festival and I had the morel bisque which was delicious. My husband got the chicken/chorizo stuffed poblano pepper which also was delicious.

After a long day on the road, we stopped for a late dinner. The atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. Our server was very friendly and welcoming. When asked for suggestions on dishes to try, he was very helpful and suggested an amazing variety. I tried one of the options and was very pleased. It was late, and we were the last table in the restaurant, but our server never rushed us out the door. I will definitely tell others to stop by and enjoy a wonderful time.

This place was really fun and exciting! The drinks were absolutely delicious (margaritas 10/10) and my server was very nice. The food, however, was probably one of my biggest disappointments in a restaurant in a while. The best way I can describe it is “La Croix” Latin food. There was minimal to no flavor and it seemed as though the food was not prepared the way it should be for this style of cooking. Great for people who don’t like the usual spice Latin food provides. However, if you like/know Latin food and have a certain expectation for how it should taste, then I would not recommend this restaurant.

Loved this place as a kid, just came back for my 34th birthday. Drove 2 hours just to have all the old memories flood back and i loved it. The hot sauce wall, the "tourist" bathroom, the amazing food. Worth a trip for me and others for sure. Keep up the good work.

We came here last year when vacationing on Boyne Mountain and then again this year. The chips and salsa are AMAZING. The queso and tortilla soup is also very good. The rest of the food was fine. While our server was very nice and helpful he stopped coming over as much. We were in the back of the restaurant so maybe he was servicing other tables?! All in all, it was a fine experience. Encourage them to light up the back room more as it is dark. And whomever makes those chips and salsa should get a raise!

This restaurant is always on our list anytime we go to Northern Michigan and we are never disappointed! The warm chips and delicious salsa start off a great evening followed by delicious entrées. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals from quesadillas and black bean patties to the chicken and black bean burrito…all were outstanding!

Best Latin food Ive ever had. Lots of interesting twists and regional flare in multiple dishes. Spicy, sweet, savory, all done exceptionally well. Highly recommend to anyone!

Restaurant was very clean and service was fantastic. They have a gluten free menu, so it was excellent for my wife. My burrito, pictured, was fabulous. It was a Sunday evening, so it was slow. Very festive and well designed. Highly recommend and will definitely eat here again!

The server was great, but unfortunately I want to save others the trouble. This was by far the worst meal I have ever gotten served at a restaurant. My steamed veggies was greasy. The chicken was greasy. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT MEXICAN FOOD.

We like this place. All our selections were good. They're very generous with chips and salsa. We were expecting Peter Jensen playing but he had cancelled 2: weeks prior. With advance notice of that info, we would have preferred not to drive at night. We still would have eaten at the Mesa, just way earlier.

Went with my wife she liked her meal but I didn't like mine, my burrito wasn't even hot the cheese was even getting hard. We won't be going back to red mesa.

Try the meatloaf or chicken fried steak. You won't regret it!

Good Mexican-American menu with great service.

Okay so the food and atmosphere were AMAZING. But the hostess was...Awful. Never have I had a person be so rude. Andrew was our server, he was wonderful!

Food was horrible , do not advertise this as a mexican restaurant . I Do not recomend this place atleast for latinos because the food was not tasty and was very salty. Not even the cooks were mexican. Looked inside the kitchen and it looked like Haitian people. Disapointed in this place because their menu looked good and had to drive 30 mnts to get there.

The atmosphere was warm and colorful. The food though, is salty. After 10 minutes of no acknowledgement we started looking on our phones for other places to eat at. No big deal. I noticed the host walk to the back and brought out a new waitress who treated us like we were a total inconvenience to her life from start to finish. As a former waitress, I am as easygoing as can be at restaurants and still tipped over 20%, but her attitude was completely uncalled for. We will not be returning as it’s uncomfortable to be placed with a rude server.

Our server was Austin. He is the whole reason why I wanted to write a review. This man needs to get a raise, employee of the month, and something else. He provided the best service I have seen in a while. He made us feel welcomed and not a bother when we asked for things. He was informative when we asked him questions about things. Thank you for being such an inviting warm and welcoming restaurant to eat. I will add that the food was amazing too. Great flavor! Thank you for a wonderful experience, Red Mesa Grill!💛

Great unique Latin American food.

We have been to Red Mesa before and it was fine. Our experience yesterday was not. We went with another couple and they were obviously busy. There was an older woman as the hostess that told us it would be 40 minutes but it could be much quicker so we gave her our cell number. We went a couple doors away to get a drink while we waited as there was not space in Red Mesa. I got a text before we ordered our drinks saying follow a link and the link said there was one person ahead of us and the wait was 5 minutes. We went back the the hostess and said it was still a 40 minute wait. I told her we got a text and the app said 5 minutes. She said I was wrong and it was 40 minutes. I showed her the app on my phone and she said it was wrong and I needed to sit down. I politely said it is there app, I didn't make it up. She was very rude at that point and never apologizing for the fact that there app was incorrect. We would not have come back if it had been 40 minutes. I told her to take us off the list we will be leaving and she said that would be good. She was extremely rude and never apologized for the discrepancy with the application and reality. I was professionally courteous throughout the entire conversation but she was not. We went down the street to Cafe Sante and had excellent service and a great meal. They are both owned by the same company, they must have done a better job training their staff for customer service.

Had the shrimp enchiladas. Oh. My. Word!!! Haven’t had SW food that tastes this good ever. Also had the cherry margarita. Husband had the enchilada platter and loved the smoked refried beans and the rice. Probably a good thing we don’t live in the area!!

Told 35 min wait, after 50 mins went in and still not ready, they said they were about to clear a table. Waited another 15 mins still no table. They were not busy at all. Horrible service! We were party of 9! Absolutely would never go back!

Justin L took fantastic care of us. He offered a vegetarian menu once he heard we were vegetarians. He was very friendly and made a good day even better with his friendly and sunny smile. Everyone should have a Justin L in their lives.

I'm in this place several time a week! Love the food drinks and above all I love the service! I have one waiter I always pick and I highly recommend while dining in this establishment by the name Austin he's great at his job very attentive to our needs and always knows his menu very well. I'm a firm believer in service is everything and it is when it comes to this young man Thank you for being so awesome and keep up the work kiddo

Open tables up front, was seated in the back. The food came out pretty fast but it was terrible. Fruit flies appeared at our table with the food too. No offers for more chips (which were stale af), drinks or anything else until we were done with the meal even though the server was hanging out with her coworkers in the back three tables away from us. When I went to the Traverse City location 10 years ago it was going downhill but I won't be back to either one

Salsa was from a jar. Enchiladas were grainy. Sangria was sour. Queso was the only thing we liked.

Super charming atmosphere and delicious food! I ordered takeout and the food was ready very quickly. Walking distance from Boyne City Motel. Right on the river and the cutest park. The Quesabirilla tacos were DECADENT! I will probably get the same thing next time. The bar looked exciting as well, so I will probably dine in and have a drink next time I go. Definitely going back someday.

Great food and decent selection of margaritas. Service was great. I don't think their claim of "best margarita in Michigan" holds up (personal opinion), but that's a very bold statement. Margaritas are still very good. If you're camping or skiing, this is a good stop for a break. The live music was not bad either.

Fully earned and deserved their 2nd place ranking. Our first time there and we were not disappointed. The service was exceptional (kudos to Stephanie) and the food was not only aesthetically pleasing but everything tasted great, from the freshly made salsa and tortillas to our entrees. If you are ever in the area, make sure you go to Boyne City and give his place a chance. You shan't be disappointed.

One of the best options for Mexican food in Northern Michigan. I had the Caribbean chicken quesadilla. My husband has the shrimp enchilladas. Delicious!!

As a local and faithful diner, this is the first time I have ever been so disappointed with the quality of food and how the situation was handled that I felt compelled to write a review. I ordered the Flaming Con Queso with chicken which typically comes on a super hot skillet, carmelized onions, bell peppers and cheese. Then set a blaze to crisp up the cheese. This time, the cheese was dense and mushy. The vegetables were cold and undercooked. I expressed my concern and was given some explanation that the cheese brand had changed and there was different staff in the kitchen. They did offer to remake the dish but I was disappointed and ready to leave. I ended up paying $40 towards the guacamole, which was fantastic but didn’t eat it all, my sons quesadilla, which he didn’t eat and my undercooked meal. I hope our server received a good portion of my money towards her tip. I’m now at Lake Street Pub, anxiously awaiting some edible food.

The woman behind the bar was attentive and a breath of fresh air. Made an otherwise bad day a little better. I ordered the fried ice cream with habanero chocolate drizzle. It was amazing.

The waitress is the only reason I have them 2 stars she was nice but not the greatest waitress. the food was way over priced and not at all good. The beans were cold and super thick and the rice wasn't cooked all the way through so it was hard. I've never had salsa that was that bad, the taste was strange and it was soooooo thick. I wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone.
