There was excellent service and the food was absolutely amazing! The Catfish and fried shrimp was so good that I can't wait to take my our of state guests back as soon as possible! ❤️

Wow!!! What delicious food! I have to say, I've never had jambalaya with tomatoes before, but I think I've been converted! It was so moist and flavorful and spicy!! Our server was great too. Loved that we got to sit by the window and see the alligators. Would love to come back again!

Very nice setting, you will eat good food with a view of the marsh and may be surprised to see alligators a few meters from the bay window. However the dishes are a little expensive.

Food was disappointing. Gumbo was bland, catfish plate was very greasy. For that price, you can eat a much better meal in New Orleans. Service was great though.

Turtle soups, fried shrimp and oysters and crab cakes, and onion rings all great from our experience. Nice setting and not too loud to talk. Will go back.

Service was good and the place in general. But I didn’t like the taste of my dish….. and especially meat… couldn’t even eat it. Ribs were juicy and soft.

We visit Barataria every year from Texas for a fishing trip and des Familles is always one of our dinner spots while we are in town. Have yet to try a bad thing on the menu and the staff is always great.

My family had a memorial dinner for my recently deceased grandmother. Service and food were excellent along with serene bayou to look out on while eating. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Amazing food with a beautiful view. We had the red beans and rice, red fish, and fried crab. Everything was delicious, and the waitstaff was very friendly.

Food was excellent, service was slow, particularly at the end of the meal, we asked for the check, were handed the slip and didn't see our waitress again, after waiting 10 minutes we assumed we paid up front, and were told we were to pay our server and one of the staff had to go find her, great way to not get a tip is to disappear when it's time to pay

This place has very good service. The hostess took us to a table right away. The view out of their windows is of a pond swamp area where we watched these two alligator putting on a show. We ordered alligator stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. These were good with the sauce drizzled around them. We split the red fish, which came with jambalaya and garlic bread for the table. The red fish was a little bland and slightly dry. The jambalaya was not as flavorful as we had hoped for. The bread was excellent. We also ordered a side of jalepeno cheese grits, and these were also excellent. Over all it was a good experience. We probably won't be back just because of the flavor profile and price of food for what you get.

Very nice. 6 of us went for a lovely dinner at this place. Cool location. The smiling staff was really nice, from the first hello as we walk in the door till we walk out the door. Food tastes great some had meat, some fish. Nice cold beer. Clean toilets. Well worth the drive.

We really enjoyed our lunch after Swamp tour. Rice n beans was delicious. It was a nice treat to see gators as we ate.

We had a good meal here. They have some unique dishes like the alligator stuffed mushrooms. The views were beautiful from inside the restaurant. It was nice to see the bayou from large windows. Our meals came out hot and tasted pretty good. Our waiter was very nice and our drinks were always filled.

Quite nice place to grab lunch. Atmosphere is nice as you gaze at the bayou and enjoy a meal.

From start to finish we had a horrible experience. There was a party taking up the whole downstairs where you they wouldn’t let you walk up or down the stairs. We waited almost 2 hours for our food and the waitress never addressed how long the food was taking. Once we got our food all of it was cold. When we told the waitress she looked aggravated by it. While we waited almost 2 hours for our food there were about 20 kids running all over the upstairs and no parents were in sight. We had our 5 year old with us and had to leave before finishing our meal as it was almost 9:30 pm and we still had to drive home. Unfortunately, we will never go back there.

Wonderful hidden gem with great local food! We saw an alligator out of the window as the place is directly on the bayou! I recommend it :)

Nice view. Quiet and quant. But worse turtle soup I every had. Tasted like crab boil concentrate.

Was not expecting just how good this place was. We started off with the alligator mushrooms... a little heartburn but so worth it. The oysters were wow. Everything we ate here was so good. We went with a group so we got to try a lot.

Traveled to New Orleans from Baltimore Maryland and ate here, it was hands down the best food! We had the alligator mushrooms, gumbo, and red fish! It was delicious! Highly recommend checking this place out, so worth it!

We were here on a Tuesday evening and were seated right away. The place is very nice and clean. The menu is interesting the service is great and the food is really good. We watched “Dorthy” the alligator and a bunch of ducks while we ate.

I loved my experience here. What an absolutely gorgeous setting on the bayou. The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows so you can really soak in the magical view. The food was equally impressive. The crab gratin was so delicious, as were the BBQ shrimp w grits. My friend also said the jambalaya was the best she's ever had. This may have been the highlight of our trip to New Orleans.

Menu was on point. Delicious drinks, appetizers, and main courses. Crab cakes were exceptional in taste, ratio of lump crabmeat to other filling, and well paired with remoulade/home made slaw. Window seating offers nice view of the bayou and the restaurant's resident gator.

Very expensive food that was just alright. The menu wasn’t exactly clear about what all came with each item. The wait to get our food was very long. The atmosphere was nice — fun music playing and a good view of the water.

My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day there and had a lovely time...they offered a special 5 course meal for the occasion that was delightfully piping hot and delicious as well as fairly priced! They cater to their first time visitors in the same way as they do their VIP repeat patrons with smiling faces and pleasant dispositions, so I would suggest to anyone to pay Restaurant des Families a visit because they won't disappoint! Thanks again!

Great food and great entertainment! I had the Redfish Marcel with a side of chicken and sausage jambalaya, then the Creme Bruleé for dessert. I got to try the turtle soup (very yummy!), the red beans and rice, as well as the alligator stuffed mushrooms, and the crab cakes with angel hair pasta. All of it was REALLY good! We also got to watch a couple of alligators and some wading birds interact with one another just outside the windows while we ate. This is definitely a hidden gem that is off the beaten path, but well worth the trip out of town!

A fabulous restaurant located outside of New Orleans. Our friends brought us here after we did the swamp tour. We had never been to Louisiana or New Orleans, so restaurant recommendations were welcomed. What was even better was a local place outside the hustle and bustle of downtown and very much a place for locals. I had the shrimp po boy and a side of jambalaya. Sadly I have no photographic proof of this. I can say the po boy was delicious, light golden batter and the bread was a delight. I didn’t except anything less, but it’s always night when the food is as good as or is better than one expects. If you are in NOLA, but want to venture to a place where the locals go, in a wonderful location away from the craziness that downtown offers, this is more than idea.

The food was excellent and the atmosphere great. We enjoyed the view of the bayou from our table. I had the etouffe and a side of jalapeno cheese grits. Both were excellent but the etouffe was different from what I'm used to - it had tomatoes and was more of a soupy dish. The flavor was very good and it was loaded with crawfish, just expect it to be different than in other parts of the state. Our service was slow and a bit inattentive overall which was the only disappointment. I'm looking forward to trying it again.

The food was good, but the portions were small.

Not only is the food wonderful, but the view of the swamp on a sunny early afternoon is spectacular. At least two alligators, great white egret, little egret , great blue heron, turtles, giant snails. Wonderful.

Fantastic spot right next to the Jean Lefitte Swamp Tours. Excellent service. I'm so grateful to the chef for learning that they can make anything grilled that is listed as deep fried since that works best for me. I enjoyed a 1/2 shrimp and 1/2 catfish grilled plate with potato salad. My mates got a Caesar salad with fried oysters, red beans and rice with catfish and crab cake angel hair pasta and everyone loved their food.

What an amazing restaurant experience all around! The turtle soup was over the moon good as was the red beans! Service was terrific and the restaurant manager, Ty, was delightful. On top of the food and the staff, the view of the bayou from our table was an exotic treat! Hope to go back and enjoy this rare treat of a restaurant again!

Food and service was great, especially with our party of 50. I feel for the servers going up and down the stairs with our orders. Could have decorated more, only saw 1 tree.

This place is really geared towards holiday banquet style dining, about 50 dollars per person plus tip. They also rent out for parties, wedding rehearsals etc. It's banquet style dining, it's not really a traditional restaurant.

Casual atmosphere, excellent service, and amazing food. We stopped there after going on the Jean Lafitte swamp tour, which is down the road, and it was a genuine surprise. Best craps cakes we have ever had.

We stopped here after we went on a swamp boat tour. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding but what made this place stand out was the view!!!! We sat along a tall wall of windows that overlooked part of the swamp. During dinner an alligator swam down the canal and hung out the entire time we were eating lunch. It was definitely a pleasant surprise!

Loved everything about Des Families. Our waitress Jamie made feel like home. Jamie was very down to earth and friendly. Food was a 10 and the alligator outside was very entertaining. Loved the cajun music playing in the background. Reminded me of my childhood, my grandparents played french cajun music. Thank you to Des Families and Jamie for making my birthday dinner so special.

We made reservations, as well as another party our size. This automatically put a load on the kitchen staff as well as the server's, bartenders etc. Our waitress did a Good job, but Kudos, Hats off to the kitchen staff. And the entertainment showed up oncue, Gators and birds alike.

Delicious meal. All the food was good, but Turtle soup was amazing and great views of alligators and birds from the huge windows.
