The food is always good but we do take out most of the time. The service has been good when we have eaten there and the atmosphere is average but definitely adequate.

I probably eat here twice a month sometimes eaten sometimes take home. I love it. It is the best Chinese I have had in the Overland Park area. The food is very generous. It’s well priced and it is so flavorful.

The food was excellent and great atmosphere. I wish they were more inviting or welcoming. But overall I will go back. We were the only ones there at the time.

Ordered take out cause normally this place is good. Get home after driving an hour (30 there 30 back more like 45 with traffic) my food is wrong I call and ask for a refund on the things they messed up..... offered half my money back if I couldn't bring the food back. I could bring it back but now I have to figure out dinner and add an extra hour on to my drive to get a full refund. After fighting with the "boss" I finally get my 18$ back..

Avoid coming here if you can. I previously held Rice House in very high regard, recommended it all the time and ate there myself pretty frequently when I lived in the area. Last night I took my mom here to have a dine in experience at rice house. I ordered the beef lo mein, and my mom ordered the beef and broccoli. When my beef lo mein arrived, within two bites I realized it was just microwaved, really scolding hot in some places and literally cold in others. I called over our server, who was an older woman, and I very politely (I’m afraid of confrontation most times, and I was practicing standing up for myself) made her aware that my food was cold and I’d like to send it back in exchange for some fresher food. She then went and got who I can only presume is the kitchen manager, who came out and asked me “what’s going on”. I very politely tell him the story again, this time more nervous because as im explaining that my food is cold in some spots and really hot in others, this man is rolling his eyes at me. He then proceeds to raise his voice at me, saying that “they don’t do that at rice house. We don’t microwave at rice house”. I wanted to cry so bad, he went on to say that “restaurant isn’t Walmart, you can’t return food” and if I wanted something else I’d be charged, as well as still have to pay for the cold noodles I received. The way he spoke to me was truly unacceptable, I am a very quiet 23 year old girl and I very rarely have to stand up for myself like this. I’ve never been spoken to with such disgust and disregard by an employee in my life, and I was extremely apologetic the entire time I was explaining that my $15 lo mein was served to me half microwaved and cold. He told me I was wrong, that I was making stories up with a raised voice in front of the entire dining room. It was mortifying. I was so embarrassed. He refused to work with me on coming to a solution, and the only way I could have was if I myself had also raised my voice and shifted to a more disrespectful tone, which I really really did not want to do because the situation really didn’t require it. So I let him storm away from me instead of trying to defend my case further. And was charged for the full, cold plate of lo mein. It was truly mortifying. Absolutely unacceptable for a restaurant in this day and age, and I want to cry just retyping all of this because it was so so jarring how ready this man was to go toe to toe with me like I wasn’t about to burst into tears the entire time. I just wanted to enjoy a nice meal with my mother who I don’t see very often, as we don’t live near eachother anymore. I can’t believe the service I received from a place I held in such high regard. I’m sorry I took her there in the first place. Don’t come here for noodles unless you want to get yelled at when they serve them to you cold :P

We used to order take out frequently from Rice House. Going to when they first opened. Sometimes, starting in late 2022. Something changed. If you order take out. Before you leave, check your order. They have become notorious for not including items you paid for. Or just substituting things. So you order pork fried rice, you get pork lo mein. Stuff like that.

The menu has many options and fresh varieties. Try this restaurant and don’t be disappointed.

I definitely recommend giving Rice House a try! The moo shu pork was the best I've had anywhere near us. And everything we tried was delicious. And I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food. We will definitely be returning. I want to try more like the Hunan Beef. Also, the spicy sauce you get with the dumplings is so good and actually spicy ;) We ended up using it on everything we ordered!

Very laid back, hole in the wall, family owned restaurant. Their egg drop soup is a nostalgic recipe just like at the Chinese buffets I grew up eating in (you know, with the chandeliers, rainbow lit vaulted ceilings, and soft serve machine). I saw they have a lot of to-go orders during dinner hours. I ordered crab rangoons (pretty good), egg drop soup, and long life noodle soup. It was pretty filling and came with cooked egg on top, and underneath it chicken, shrimp, some greens, and long thin noodles. It had a warm, mellow oniony flavor which I would definitely come back to eat when it’s cold outside. Authentic Chinese restaurant.

I ordered the veggie bean curd soup and asked for it to be spicy. It exceeded my expectations. Thanks for making it special for me I can taste the TLC (goes perfect with the crab Rangoon)

This was my first time at The Rice House and I must say the customer service skills lacked. I ordered Mongolian Beef and it was nothing but onions and green onion. In the mist of eating our food the waitress handed one of the persons in my group a to go box without even asking if she was done. She did not ask anyone else in my group if we needed a box etc. Needless to say I will not return back to this location.

The food is ok at this place but if you want friendly service, I recommend trying another Chinese restaurant in South KC. Staff here is consistently impatient and rude. Go somewhere where you’re made to feel welcome! And get better food!

So far the best and must original fried rice I’ve tried in Kansas! The combination fried rice with a little bit of hot sauce is super good and I think is big enough for two people, I always tried to finish it by myself but I never can, the sour sauce that comes with the egg rolls is so delicious that you can tell is “home made”!

Hands down our favorite carb ragoons in the metro. Will drive 30 minutes to pick up and it is 100% worth it.

Best Chinese in South Kansas City

Food is always good. Every time my kids and I are out that way we get takeout. Always fresh!

Just a little "hole in the wall" place, but the food is phenomenal! Prices are very reasonable, too. The wait staff aren't very friendly or talkative, but the food more than makes up for that. I eat here frequently. Highly recommend this place!

I’m picky about Chinese food. I like good quality and fresh ingredients & Rice House did not disappoint! I had the Singapore Mei Fun (rice noodles). I asked to substitute for the pork with another protein and add extra vegetables- there was tons of mushrooms, zucchini, onions & carrots. It was delicious! My partner ordered beef & broccoli- very tasty & high quality too! The crab Rangoon was fresh too. Portions were generous- 2 adults could easily split an entree. So happy we found a great new Chinese restaurant & look forward to frequenting this location.

I've had lunch special or something over here a long time ago, it was the worst Chinese I've had. Worst Asian all together....small containers, half edible food....Happy dragon every time since Peking Express burned down😂😂

Rice House is by far the best place to get Chinese food!! It’s the only place I’ll go to. The prices are fair and the food is always fresh and tasty. The portions you get are always a lot. I always have left overs for the next day. This is my favorite place to get Chinese food and I highly recommend it!!

This is a must try place, that’s for sure! The food was 10/10. We got the spicy garlic shrimp and general tso’s chicken and both were delicious. The egg drop soup was probably the best I’ve ever tasted Highly recommend you give this cozy little space a try!

I ordered takeout last night and ate everything except the Wonton soup because I was saving it for lunch today. I warmed it up and had taken a few bites, noticed the dumplings were a little slimy but attributed it to the broth? Then I see these black dots on the cabbage...there are no other black dots. I tried scratching it off. It's not seasoning, it's MOLD. Here's to hoping I don't get sick! Do NOT eat here, this is insane!

The food here used to be fantastic. It has declined. My chicken and broccoli was terrible. They gave me white instead of fried rice and my order was late and cold. The texture of the chicken is gummy and stringy and they gave way more broccoli than chicken. Won’t be eating here again.

Exactly the Chinese eats we've been looking for since moving to the KC area 3 years ago. A great neighborhood Chinese Cafe.. Rice House is a clean place with courteous, fast service before and after the meal. Lunch prices and selections are very reasonable. Food is tasty and plentiful. We will definitely return.

The portion sizes are really good. The price is a bit higher than I'd prefer. However, I could tell that the oil used for frying the food was very old. It left a very bad taste in my mouth and I struggled to finish the meal. I don't think I'll come by this place again.

Let me start by saying the food is somewhat edible in a pinch. I ordered and tried to start the interaction off positive by asking "How are you doing?" Etc. I was met with "Place your order. " I placed the order and we live 20 minutes away so I informed we'd be cutting it close but they still accepted the order. Literally, we were one minute, or less from the establishment but 10 minutes before their closing time when we got a call asking "Where are you?" When I walked in 45 seconds from their call, there was an indignant attitude by all, especially the rude guy who takes the orders (y'all KNOW who he is), but why? I'm the paying customer just coming in to pick up an order YOU accepted and I'm there before your closing time. Simple order at that: 2 Shrimp Fried Rice with Crab Rangoon. I was met with "Do you know what time it is?" REALLY?!?! We're literally here 10 minutes before close and you and your whole family are there eating in the dining room. Everyone is sitting down eating so why is there a problem?!?! The way I was treated tonight I'll NEVER come back here. I encourage everyone to make your dollars count, especially in this day and age when IT'S SO HARD TO COME BY and NEVER support a disrespectful business and that is exactly what this is..... and to add insult to injury the shrimp are nasty and not deveined nor did we not get ALL that we ordered. This place is not worth it. There are too many other restaurants offering better food with a better customer service experience. We as customers are keeping these places in business when they CLEARLY DO NOT appreciate nor deserve it. Think about that and refuse to spend your money where there is clearly DISRESPECT for your money, you as a person and the business you're providing to keep their doors open. I wish I could give negative stars cause that's what they deserve. ✌🏽

I wanted to just do a to-go order and used the website offered. It seemed really high prices but I figured the things I was ordering must be large containers (at $18 each). Went and picked up and found that it was three single servings instead of three large containers to feed my family of 7. And it was nearly $60. Total rip off. My guess is that if you call and order or come in person to order you pay less?? Because who on earth would pay that much for crummy Chinese food in tiny servings? I felt super ripped off. Don’t use their website TapThru to order.

My wife and I had Rice House for the first time tonight and I must sayx it is the best Chinese cuisine we have had yet. Phenomenal good!!! Amazing dining room and cozy decor.

It may not seem like this is the best Chinese food in the area, it is. Every time I have eaten here the food tastes freshly made and hot. There is no drop off in quality due to the very low prices. Thank you for making food, thank you for doing it right.

Tried Rice House for the first time and the whole family loved it! May even like it better than Bo Lings which we’d get on a regular basis in the past. The kids loved the egg drop soup, pineapple fried rice and mein fun noodles. The hot and sour soup is arguably the best I’ve ever had. The food wasn’t too salty or greasy and felt lighter than your typical Chinese fare. Can’t wait to try other items on the menu the next time. Have a feeling this will be our new go-to place for Chinese!

I had lunch here with my friends this afternoon. I ordered the Szechuan chicken which was very good. The restaurant was clean, the food was fresh, the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely dine here again.

Food was good but we were with friends and after they brought us to go boxes and the check the waiter never came back even though we were all still hanging out catching up. Refills and a check in would have been nice since we stayed longer.

Food is OK. Not the best in KC area- but a decent option if you live in the area. Not a fan of their fried rice or soup (more on the bland side than most restaurants in OP). Meat was really good though and the ingredients seem higher quality than your typical chinese takeout.

Well tonight was my first time eating here. I haven't had any good Chinese take out since moving to the area. This was actually really good and was actually spicy not midwest spicy lol.

There is no better! Delicious and a great variety of entrees! Never disappoints whether I dine in or do a pickup. I have recommended to family and friends and they agree!!
