They allow dogs inside which is awesome!! However it can get quite loud. I didn't have their food but they have pizzas in a bake oven if you need a snack.

They are a credit card only establishment. They charge a 4% credit card fee. I hate, hate, hate businesses that aren't transparent with their price. Just list the 4% higher cost on your menu or allow people to pay cash. Businesses should only be allowed to add a credit card surcharge if there's an option to pay cash. It is a wonderful place otherwise.

Loud bar full of millennials. Been there forever. Will outlive us all. The patio was nice until it closed at 11.

Really great casual bar in Lincoln Park. Great location being close to the lake and public transport. Always a reliable stop to come grab a drink after work. One of my favorite parts of River Shannon is the dartboard they have in back as well as the "Hole in One" video game, it truly makes the space one of a kind. It is hard to find a better casual spot in Lincoln Park to grab a pint.

I’ve loved this place for 15 years and never left a review, and I can’t believe it. The place rules, it’s a gem of a neighborhood spot, and people like Doug behind the bar just make it an institution of Chicago. Just go.

10/10 my favorite neighborhood bar. I’ve been coming here for years, and my parents were also frequent fliers in the 80s. Drinks are priced well and the tiny tinis on Tuesdays are fantastic deal. The staff are definitely a highlight and create a great atmosphere — especially Doug! Also, make sure to ask for pretzels!

Food is frozen pizza brought from a local pizza shop. Tastes amazing. They have nonalcoholic selections which I appreciate since I'm sober. Nonalcoholic Guinness and Heineken. Beautiful bar with amazing woodwork and is dogfriendly, fun place to be on weekends with regular visits from people with their dogs. Friendly staff. Heather is a sweetheart.

We decided to host a happy hour in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and chose River Shannon to host it! What a wonderful time we had! Sophia was so easy to schedule everything with, she even had some catering suggestions for us that made the rest of the planning even easier. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We could not have selected a better spot. Highly recommend you reach out to them for your next event or stop in to enjoy their lovely patio this summer!

Looks like a cool neighborhood bar but the prices didn’t reflect that at all. I wasn’t really prepared to pay $19 each for a round of Chicago handshakes.

Stopped in for a quick drink on our way home. It was exactly what I'd expect from a small Irish pub. It was a slow time of day but we had fast and friendly service. Would definitely go back again.

If you have a dog and you like to drink beer, this is the place. Dogs roam free and everybody knows them. Very laid-back and fun.

River Shannon is a wonderful Irish pub in Lincoln Park. We had a large group / private event there, and the staff is great to work with. We had a few of teh River Shannon pizzas, and we utilized the catering that River Shannon works with. Food, service, drink was all excellent. We'd go back again!

What an absolutely adorable little bar. It’s nice to have something open late on a Monday night! The pizza was absolutely fantastic!

The staff was friendly and welcoming. The bar very much feels like a place for people to come haveba few drinks and unwind. This bar is also pupper friendly with well behaved dogs hanging out with everyone. Well worth the visit.

If you have a well behaved dog, this is the place for you. They allow dogs in the bar. I have not eaten any of their food but the beer is cold and served by a friendly face willing to talk if the place is not too crowded.

Not sure who loves this place more—me, or my dog! I’ve only ever had great experiences here. The kind and friendly staff will make you feel at home immediately. My dog loves to come here to eat some treats and get lots of attention from other patrons. I think this will become our new neighborhood go-to!

How can you not give 5 stars to a bar that has about five dogs on the floor as soon as you walk in. Nice small bar with good service. Did not see anyone eating.

Came here on a Friday afternoon and had a great time. Our bartender was a gem, the patrons were friendly and the environment exactly what we needed. And dogs are allowed inside! Yayyyy for the doggies! This is going to be our spot when we are back in town.

This is a cool place. My spouse and I wanted to catch the second 1/2 of the soccer game. Found this place online and stopped in. The two guys working were helpful, cool, and personable. We ordered food (an outside company) and had a couple beers. This place has really cool architecture, allows dogs, and has a casual vibe. It also has COVID protections in place. Great local, cool, casual, clean place. Also, loved seeing the dogs :)

This bar was awesome. Great drinks, great covid precautions, and above all else, unbelievable restrooms. I should note that I identify as a male and use the men's restroom. I have never encountered a bathroom this clean outside of my mother's house. The floor was clean, the urinal was so clean as to appear polished, and I didn't encounter even an inkling of pee smell. This restroom experience was truly phenomenal.

This is the first dog friendly bar I have ever been to! We loved it we were greeted by some sweet little fluffy dogs. We didn't actually drink any alcohol but I seen they had a personal favorite on tap. We were out enjoying the sites and stumbled across it and decided to stop. We had looked at the menue on line and decided we would try it out. This is also the first restaurant we have been to that you order your food on line and it was delivered from a separate restaurant. I'm sure it had to do with covid restrictions to some extent. But we had zero complaints the food was delicious and the atmosphere was fantastic!

River Shannon is my favorite bar in all Chicago. The bar itself is really quite beautiful and old school. I always feel welcome here. Best part is they allow dogs and have dog treats, toys, and water bowls. For Halloween they do a pet costume contest. It's amazing.

Heather is a great bartender! Personable, great drinks, and cool. It's the best kind of dive bar with awesome period decor from the 30s and 40s and you can order food from Weber Grill! Nothing not to like. It's on my regular list now for every time I'm in town.

Great little pub with usual bar offerings. Small space, but they handled covid guidelines well with chicago reopening recently. Tables spaced out and everyone wears a mask while walking around the bar.

You don't go to River Shannon for the food; you go for the beer and the atmosphere and the conversation. An old-time Irish pub, River Shannon has been doing business at 425 West Armitage in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood since 1946. It has a neighborhood vibe, serves Irish whiskey and predates all sports bars with its etched glass doors, tin ceilings, antique bar, green velour curtains and old sepia prints of Chicago. There's even an ancient black-and-white of Babe Ruth pitching for the Boston Red Sox. Regulars think of River Shannon as a Four Farthings without the food. But there are plenty of brews to go around...Guinness, Heineken, Coors Light, Bud Light, Corona, Sam Adams, Stella Artois, Miller Lite. No fish and chips or Shepherd's pie or Winston's bangers here. A pint of Guinness and a bowl of chili will satisfy most customers. Or a corned beef, ham and cheese or turkey and Swiss sandwich on sourdough with potato chips. Or a sausage, cheese or pepperoni pizza for two. It must be good enough or how do you explain that River Shannon has been drawing crowds for more than 70 years?

We stopped in for drinks. They have a good beer selection and pop corn! Bartender was very very nice and quick. The place is even dog friendly! Just the type of bar you feel comfortable in!

Came here for a night out with my girlfriends. Loved the atmosphere and people. Plus, they have big jenga blocks in the back of the bar to play with, can't go wrong with that. I definitely recommend if you're in the area!

No frills, reasonable prices, professional staff. I enjoy this place. You cannot go wrong for a place to get a Guinness and chill.

River Shannon has been around since 1946, so its tin ceiling, etched glass windows, and wonderful wooden bar are not affectations or an attempt to be a classic Chicago tavern, but instead are an honest reflection of the way things used to be. Of course they have added numerous flat screen TVs (one projection screen is a hold out to a few year back for sure), and pour a wide variety of beers on tap, so they aren't totally stuck in the past. You can grab some popcorn, play some giant Jenga, or just look at all the decorations around the bar (they do an especially nice job at Christmas of decorating the place). My last visit was mid afternoon on a Saturday, in mid September, so college football was on nearly every TV (of course the Cubs were also on). They were not very crowded at all, in fact it was mostly some old timers enjoying a beer or wine and chatting with the bartender. By the way, dogs are very welcome at River Shannon. While we were there, the bartender came around from behind the bar with a big bowl of water for one on the canine customers. She even held it up at snout level for the pooch, instead of putting it on the floor. The service for humans is pretty good too, although they do trust you to hold your own beers.
