Best pizza in southern Vermont!!!

I went in because I’d heard good things, and I was not disappointed! I decided to get their two slices of pepperoni deal that came with a fountain soda, and I also wanted to try their plain base wings before I eventually get the buffalo wings. Both were good! The pizza and wings were flavorful, and the location is pretty easy to find (near the Shaw’s parking lot where the Hound Dogs truck is) . I’ll definitely be back to try a full pie and buffalo wings.

Edit July 2024: I was excited to visit this great pizza place since they'd been closed every time I went down for ages. This time I pulled into the lot...and it was a construction site. Turns out they moved it into a strip mall behind it's original on-street location. There's still the giant oven, and the place is clean. Well staffed, very polite. I am not sure what happened; new owners? Different supplier? The pizza we had was...average, maybe below average compared to NY/NJ style pizza. There was nothing that made it stand out. It's okay for the "get out and grab a slice" crowd, but it's not the place that made me say multiple times while eating it "this is one of the best crusts I've ever had". I don't like giving average reviews, but the disappointment of expecting a 9 pizza and ending up...6.5? There's nothing to make it stand out now. I'm the sort of person who considers pizza one of the main food groups, and need to have some at least once a week. Vermont has some good pizza places, but I'm always happy to find another. We were doing the Mount Equinox ride and were heading back into Manchester to visit the excellent Northshire books (both must-visits). We stopped here because I'm always willing to try a wood-fired pizza, and being a nice summer day we wanted to eat outside. The ambiance of the place strikes me as "local institution". Not formal at all, a relaxed groove with a number of tables outside. It was a bit disorganized with no set waiting line and having to go through the tables to get your order in, but it added to the local feel; the sort of place you take your kids after a sporting event. Staff was friendly, quick and made suggestions. Side note: While I think Rookie's rootbeer (based in Burlington) is the best root beer in existance, what they had on tap was very good; this was not your typical mass-produced rootbeer. The pizza itself was...excellent! I can't remember the name of the specific style I bought, but I mentioned at least six times while eating (literally...and a couple more times later in the day) just how dang good the crust was. A pizza's crust is the foundation of it's quality, and this was the perfect mixture of being crisp without crunchy or dry, and chewed well in the mouth without a heavy bread feel. Texture was excellent. The rest of the ingredients were quality as well. Price for two people was very reasonable, and they have a number of slice/pizza combinations so you don't have to order a whole pie. I don't get down to Manchester often, but next time I take the trek down to Northshire books, it's a definite that I'll stop here for a meal afterward.

Finally got the opportunity to visit at their new location! Everything about it is outstanding!! The pizza is still delicious, staff is so friendly and the atmosphere is spot On! Big Mike is gonna continue to turn out customer favorites for years to come!! Great job on the new place!!

The food was great. Small space for seating inside.

Pizza is pricey, but it’s worth it. All the varieties are amazing. Has moved slightly in location since reopening, but the new spot has better parking.

The pictures are pictures of the old location. They moved like a couple hundred feet into a plaza. The directions are correct though.

As a local Sams has consistently disappointed me. This picture below is WELL DONE, yet still undercooked. Other times I have gone unsure if it even entered their world famous wood fired oven. COOK YOUR DAM PIZZA SAMMY!

Great crust and toppings are excellent quality. Crust was crispy with a light wood fired taste that held up well. Friendly customer service. I highly recommend Sam's wood fired pizza.

We were so excited for Sam’s to return. Our beloved caramelized onion, goat cheese, and spinach pizza has always been a favorite. Maybe they are dealing with a huge influx and are super busy so I will give them a grace period. But I have to say we were disappointed in our pizza. It was poorly assembled, one of my slices was missing ingredients on half, the toppings hardly came to the crust edge, the crust bubbled and burned. It wasn’t the same pizza we had a year ago. We hope they work out the kinks and return to being the best pizza you can find in the area.

I thought with the new location things would be on point but I ordered a small pie and this is what I got the best I could do when I got home was break off the crust and scoop the top off. What a mess wake up whoever is making pizza it's embarrassing...

This place has a variety of pizzas. I opted for the Hawaiian Pizza . A little pricey but tasty. Friendly co -workers and was busy for a Thursday night.

Cardboard pizza; not much sauce, cheese seemed to be dry. Not very flavorful. Wife commented that it was like school cafeteria pizza.

The person who was at the front corner touched money then touched a customers pizza right after. We ordered garlic knots. After paying, they told us they didn't have any. None of the tables had been cleaned. Each table had a note saying, clean up after you eat. Obviously nobody did. So it should fall on the employees. The bathroom door did not lock and no soap. Wanted to eat in.. decided to take it to go.

I asked for well done. They were busy, and short staffed but still made us a perfect pizza. Thanks guys!

Food and service have drastically improved. We got the best pizza we've had in a long time! They were really busy, and the girl at the counter was so nice!

Pizza was delicious!!! Great options. 10/10 would eat here again Hard to understand the folks on the phone though and not a clear system between foh staff and boh to get the pizza out when it's done. But overall they go it done and our pizzas were hot 🔥

AMAZING pizza. I love this place.

The veggie pie made with vegan cheese was great. We were craving pizza and were happy to find an option with cheese we could eat.

We went twice during a three-day trip to Manchester and enjoyed the $5 Special which is two cheese slices and a drink. Delicious, decent-sized slices. Very nice point of sale staff each time.

Pizza was great. Ordered a veggie lovers pizza Which was very good. Service? Not so much. They still have older menu with older prices. But charge you three dollars more than what it says on the menu. You are expected to tip on food they don’t even bring to you. Then there is this sign on the table that says “please bus your own tables”. Ridiculous! Bunch of high school kids standing around doing nothing and expecting a handout (Tip). This is tip culture for you.

We thoroughly enjoyed every last crumb of our pizzas, which were perfectly done, thin crust pizzas with generous toppings in interesting combinations. We loved the The Wright (bacon, caramelized onions, and gouda cheese), The Veggie (onions, peppers, mushrooms, spinach, broccoli, olives, garlic, and tomatoes), Ben’s Goat Cheese (garlic and olive oil base with spinach, caramelized onions, with shredded mozzarella and goat cheese) and The White (garlic and olive oil base, with tomatoes, artichoke hearts, feta cheese, and pesto). As you can see, we were very hungry. ;-) Highly recommend.

Place was cool looking but lacked quality. Prices were higher than online, I was aded a charge of 1.50 for sauce that I did not request. The pizza was very disappointing. the crust wasn't even cooked properly. Not the crisp or color that you would get from a wood fire oven. Wings lacked sauce(I ordered buffalo). I spent $38.90 for a personal pizza, 6 wings, 3 knots and a soda. Extremely high prices and the quality did not follow.

You know that you are going to wait outsider in the cold for at least an hour, but what you don't expect is a sugary tomato sauce on a pie. The folks are nice, and they nailed the crust. That's the hard part, but that sauce made me sick with indigestion, and I threw the pizza away. That never happens to me.

This is a great spot for pick up pizza to bring back to your hotel, best in Manchester IMO. Margherita large was $25 and small cheese was $8. Both were fantastic, crispy crust, flavorful sauce, and most importantly, that tasty Vermont cheese. They also have a secret ingredient, Vermont maple syrup in the outer crust, so you crust haters out there (like me) don't have to be wasting our money. A bit of higher end on the price spectrum, but worth it!

My wife and I were staying close by and both love pizza, so we thought we would give it a try. I would give the pizza a 3. Toppings were disappointing. Vegetables on pizza weee mostly raw still, sausage and pepperoni lacked much flavor. Service I would say was a 4, overall friendly. Tipping policy was a 0. To ask customers if they would directly like to add a tip to the bill when you just took their credit card to pay is inappropriate. Asking for a tip is the same as pan-handling. In this instance, To even ask for a tip is also beyond embarrassing. You order your pizza at a window, they make the pizza then call your name and you walk over to pick up your pizza and then can sit at a picnic table where each table has a sign stating “customers are responsible to bus their own table”. Wait. What? Gratuity is voluntary which this is not based on directly asking for a tip. More importantly, gratuity is not a right, it is a privilege and must be earned every minute by a server, which this individual was not. Finally, if you want to receive tips, take a job where you wait on customers, serve their food to them, stop by to check on them and then if they feel you deserve it, you could “earn” a tip. If you feel you should receive tips because you don’t get paid enough, this is an issue between the employee and owner, and is in no way the customers problem or concern. If you don’t like it then don’t work in the food industry. For me, I never put money in a tip jar and when I do tip, it is always in cash. My tip is for the wait staff only, not the cook or the bus person or cashier or anyone else. The wait staff receive tips. If you are a cashier or bus person and want to receive tips then get s job on the wait staff. As the customer I can influence situations through reviews like this one and my patronage which for Sam’s Pizza, I will never return until this issue is overtly acknowledged and fully corrected.

This place has great pizza the flavors are amazing they sure are not a “basic” pizza place. Love going here the only downfall is the small parking lot but shhh you can sometimes park at the grocery store and walk up to pick up your pizza

Slices were ready fast and were delicious. They were very busy and came through perfectly.

We came for the gluten free crust. The sauce was both very sugary and very garlicky. I'd try somewhere else for pizza next time.

Highly recommended! We came twice for the two slices and a soda for $5.00/$7.00!!! Such polite and friendly staff at the ordering window. The setting is great, easy to order, quick to receive the brick oven reheat. There's a great umbrella table and chairs area to dine in too! Try it!!!

Poor poor pizza! Quality was horrible. Served ice cold both mine and my boyfriend’s. No flavor at all. I have been making pizzas for years and I have to say was probably the worst pizza ever eaten. In addition when the pizza was being served, the young man had his head out the serving window over the uncovered pizza yelling for pickup with his long hair dangling over the pizza. Very disappointed and would not recommend. Even the couple sitting next to me states there was nothing special about their pizza and it was ice cold.

The pizza was great. Dave wouldn't like it cause it has a heavy flop lol, but I thought it was great and their wings were solid too. Great place for a relaxing quick bite after visiting the Lincoln family home.

We used to love coming to this place the pizza was great and we would come here all the time. Unfortunately, lately it seems to be going downhill. Paid $30 for a pizza and the dough was hardly cooked and all the toppings that were vegetables were hardly cooked, as well. I asked for sausage in addition to the vegetables and and they put about one piece of sausage on each slice, and super thinly sliced as well. Looks like there’s no type of manager or owner that is present and the place is run by teenagers who also put you on the spot and asked you for tip every time you buy pizza. Sorry but I think we will go elsewhere.

We stumbled across this pizza place while looking for something within walking distance of our hotel. They had very unique specialty pizzas. I got Kat’s Vermonter, one of my all time favorite pizzas now! Their gluten free crust was amazing! Our kids don’t normally like wood fire pizza but they giggled up their pizza and wanted more! My husband loved the bacon ranch pizza. I’m craving more now!

A little to crowded without inside eating capicity

Really quick service with good pizza at good prices. 2 slices of cheese with a drink$5, pepperoni $6, and specialty $7. BBQ chicken, hangover, and cheese were all good as were the maple creemees.

Stopped here on a whim while traveling through. I’m originally from NJ where we hold the pizza to a high standard. The couple slices I got here at Sam’s were fantastic! Great crust, delicious ingredients, I was definitely blown away.

Got a picnic a table and ordered a small veggie pizza on a Friday night. The pizza was big enough for the two of us to share for dinner, and the veggies gave it a very fresh flavor. Didn't have any beer or wine for sale, and we thought we had to wait a bit longer than we should have. That said, the pizza was good, and the wood fire added a nice touch.

I noticed the people reviewing have very petty complaints. Anyways, I lived in Brooklyn NYC for 15 years and Boston for 11 years. I haven't seen a $2.50 pepperoni slice in many many years. The slice is tasty too. Town of Manchester do yourself a favor and don't lose a great pizza place. Oh and they are nice.

I originally had 5 stars but am now knocking down the stars. I loved Sam’s because you used to be able to run to Sam’s after the kid’s sporting events or on your way home from a late meeting to grab some quick slices. Now every time I go, they never have any slices available. And today, I am told they only do slices at lunch time and anything available later is leftover from lunch. I am not the only one frustrated with the lack of quick-to-go options in this town. And now Sam’s just cut themselves out of this market. Not a smart move Sam.

Would have loved to try their pizza but the dinning room is closed. You can only eat outside. Great it's 51° degrees outside and raining. But they did point us to another pizza restaurant with dine in seatiing. Shout out to Christos Pizza.

Place was awesome. Tasted like home (NY, by way of Boston). Cardboard-thick crust was super foldable; great sauce; flavorful spices; and, wide toppings selection (I had one of the preselected combos, but you could throw anything on there). Excellent (read: *not* Boston) prices, too. Yum.

Ordered the veggie pizza and ate at their tables. The veggie toppings had a very distinct frozen/freezer flavor to it, and if it weren’t for the name of the place including “wood-fired”, I would have never guessed this pizza came out of a wood fired oven based on taste or visuals. The pizza texture was extremely soft, bordering on soggy even though we ate it right there. There was none of the slightly charred/toasty bits normally on wood-fired pizza.

Little pricey for a pizza but it was good - they didn't have the slices available which was a bit frustrating because we didn't need all of the pizza - but overall it tasted good. I should have ordered ahead of time - 20 mins for the pizza but it was a last min stop.

This place was great! The veggie pizza was killer, and the service even better. They were overwhelmed with customers as most dining opportunities were full that night. They did such a wonderful job feeding so many hungry and frustrated people. I just wanted to get up and give them all a big hug. Instead, we tipped them well. We sat out front, as many others did, and enjoyed our neighbors, and the atmosphere. It was a nice change from the Inn dining scene.

Nice variety of pizza. Excellent crust. Definitely try the BCR, but get it on a white pizza! So far the best north of Corning! Dine in was under an awning with picnic tables. Not ideal social distancing, but was ok.

Loved the wood fire baked pizza.. we had cheese regular for kids .. sat outside in the sun .. soak the warmth with pizza on bench next to main st .. reasonable price... Hotspot for school kids .. liked it.
