Meant to review this a few months back when I visited for dinner. Excellent food! Had the curry pad thai -- delicious, very large portion, extremely flavorful and a great twist on the usual pad thai - would highly recommend! Friend's noodle dish was also very good and flavorful. Pleasant atmosphere, fast service, would def come again!

I really wanted to love this place as it’s walking distance, but my green curry was very watery with boring steamed vegetables (not enough tofu, only 3 pieces) and the flavor tasted like my homemade attempts at curry using store bought curry paste rather than what I’ve had at other Thai places (caveat that my authenticity radar may not be calibrated correctly as I’m not Thai). The “very spicy” spice level was closer to what I’d expect if I’d ordered “spicy.” The pork noodle dish my boyfriend ordered looked better (I didn’t taste as I’m vegetarian) but he also rated as average. I unfortunately wouldn’t order again even though online ordering was convenient and service was quick and friendly.

It was my first time having authentic Thai cuisine, and I was blown away! The food was sooooo good, and the service was amazing! We were waited on by 2 waitresses who were both kind and understanding, and the chef (who I think is also the owner) came out to greet us and talk with us. There were the 3 of us, and we all like our food spicy, and they certainly delivered! I had the chicken pad thai which was amazing! I was expecting to be as sweet as I heard, even though I asked for the 3-Star spice level, but it was the perfect type of spicy! Pad thai also comes with tofu, and I usually do not like tofu at all, but their's was amazing. It was slightly crispy, dense, and pleasantly juicy! We also had the Tom-Yum soup and veggie spring rolls as appetizers, but we finished those too quick to take a photo. My brother had the 2-star spicy basil fried rice, and our cousin had the 2-star spicy drunken noodles, and they both loved their dishes! And I really cannot say enough about the service! We were a bit apprehensive since it was our first time there, but everyone was very nice and sweet. They made sure we were comfortable, and they made sure to check our food was and they seemed to really care about our experience. Furthermore, I think the chef/owner meets every guest because when he came to greet us he asked if it was our first time there because he didn't recognize us...I think it truly says a lot about a place if they actually remember and value their customers. I highly recommend this place! We will definitely go back again!

Phenomenal Thai food. The place is very bright, but not from the lighting, just the fun colors and items. The service is lovely, in many senses. The curry and soup were both delicious and a fair amount of spicy. The very spicy I order could have been hotter, but I realize that many people do not see face melting hot as a pro,so it might just be me. And excellent Thai iced tea, with a relatively minimal amount of ice...which is so rare

Me gustó mucho. I had the Fresh Salad Rolls followed by the Chicken Pad See Ew. A little set back when the salad rolls were delivered precut covered in sauces, making them impossible to eat as finger food, add your own amount of sauce or even save for later. Great presentation that out performed the flavor just ever so much. Pad See Ew was spot on and the serving size perfect. While not a big drinker I was disappointed by their "bring your own" policy. Love this place! Everything is authentically made from scratch and the owners are super friendly people. I have personally tried everything on the menu (not lying....everything) and my favorite dish is the pad him ma pann. I highly recommend trying this dish. You must ask for what spice level you want, otherwise everything comes not spicy. As it is a small byo, children cannot be accommodated very easily and there are not really any options for kids to eat so I recommend coming with your adult friends and a bottle of wine. Wine glasses provided and there is no corking fee. Please also be aware that this is a cash, Visa, or Mastercard only restaurant. There is also a maximum of 2 cards per party so please plan to bring cash if you're showing up with a bigger group.

We were a group of 5 girls celebrating our friend's birthday. It is BYOB which is always great. It is small and simple inside but you can smell the delicious food as soon as you walk inside. Service is slow but only because they only have a few waitstaff for the whole place. We went on a Friday and they were working their tails off. Just don't go expecting a quick meal. It was perfect for us because we were all catching up and having a great time, and of course brought plenty of wine which kept us occupied. We shared some apps which were all good: chicken wing special, dumplings, and spring roll. I had the red curry chicken which was amazing. Each meal you can pick how hot you want it, from 1 being mild and 3 being Thai hot. The 1 was perfect and still had kick to it. I would definitely go back and recommend this restaurant.

I would CAUTION anyone about waiting for a dining experience at this restaurant. I waited over an hour, with no line or other customers waiting for a table, simply to be "greeted" by an aggressive and hostile employee who barked at me to leave the area outside of the restaurant, where I had waited for 1hr 20 mins because, according to him, "that space was reserved for "paying customers." One cannot pay until they order, and one cannot order when an empty restaurant keeps the door locked. It is notable that the only prospective "paying customer" at the time was me. I was then able to enter the restaurant, behind some other diners that were just seated (this while the hostile server was giving me a piece of his mind out front, another employee opened the door and seated some customers. As I spoke with the owner, the hostile server arrived inside and continued to engage in outrageously rude commentary about his aggression outside of the restaurant. Did the owner ask him to get back to work, no, he allowed this individual to continue to engage in this behavior. Most restauranteurs would have fired the employee on the spot. I'm guessing this was a family member? Save yourself this most un-hospitable experience and a waste of your hard-earned $$ and instead try "My Thai," "Bangkok Thai," or "Thai Singha" YOU won't regret it! I ended up at Sampam - professional staff and excellent affordable meal all in either an open kitchen seating area, or in one of two dining rooms. Ironically, Sampam was full (in contrast to the empty Sawatdee), and still managed to serve 3 delicious dishes with a great attitude by all staff. IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO BE NICE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! No one should wait over an hour to enter a restaurant at 630p on a Saturday evening when all of the tables are empty!

It is easy to spend a lot of money on mediocre food in this part of the city. When you are tired of small portions at amped up prices, come to Sawatdee. The portions are not huge, but very adequate for most appetites. I have eaten at many Thai restaurants and was pleasantly surprised at the unique recipes used here. We started with a special appetizer of chicken and vegetable patties that were fresh and delicious with a peanut and vinegar sauce and another sauce with vinegar and diced vegetables. My entree was a Phad Thai special with a yellow curry sauce lightly applied. The sauce had a hint of sweetness that enhanced the flavor. I chose pork as the meat and the pieces were tender and moist. The noodles were very wide and flat with a pleasant chewy texture. The dish was further enhanced with fried tofu pieces, fried egg, lemon grass and bean sprouts. It was a favorite at our table. Carol had a Phad See Ewe which was also delicious. Wide noodles again with a pleasant soy and fish sauce flavor. The noodles were topped with chicken and Chinese broccoli. It was not spectacular, but the noodles were very tasty and the overall flavor was very pleasant. Our daughter came with us and ordered a roast duck curry. This was a fairly spicy version, but in a way that started slow then built up. This allowed for the beginning flavors of the ingredients to show up fully, then the heat gradually builds around those initial flavors. Very interesting. The duck was flavorful and the vegetables in the curry were fresh and crisp. We ended sharing some mango sticky rice. It was the perfect dessert for this meal with fresh mango over sweet rice soaked in coconut milk. The waiter was very pleasant, offered several times to explain the specials, and was attentive with the service. My original order came out with just tofu and no pork. He quickly corrected the mistake with the cook and offered a genuine apology. All in all, this was a very pleasant meal at a very reasonable price.

This was my second try at Sawatdee and it was an even worse experience than the first. The first time the food was mediocre and the portion size was pretty small for the price. The 2nd time we went with five people and the restaurant was just clearing out from a private party. It was 23 degrees F outside and four people from our party were at the restaurant ON TIME and we were the ONLY four people in the entire place. The waiter insisted that we leave the restaurant and come back later so they could clean up? There was plenty of room to stand by the door or anywhere else for that matter. It was one of the rudest things I have ever seen at a restaurant to ask the patrons to go away, out into the 23 degree weather in the snow and come back later. How do these waiters clean up when there are other patrons in the place? Do they make all the people sitting at the other tables get up and go outside to wait while they clean the table next to them? We went to a Mexican restaurant across the street and had an excellent time! I have lived in this neighborhood for years and will never go to Sawatdee again.

Our daughter, Bridget, really likes this place and recommended it when we asked if she would care to join us on a recent autumn evening for dinner. It is just a short seven blocks from our home, and though I was rather tired after a long day, we walked there in just a few minutes. The corner location is small and snug but also bright and clean. Wait persons are knowledgeable and polite. Prices are very moderate and it's a BYOB. For starters, I had the soup, while Les Girls split a house salad. I am a sucker for spices so I heartily enjoyed the Tom-Yum chicken, with chili paste, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and mushrooms. Bridget is also a sucker for spice, perhaps too much so. We both ordered the Drunken Noodles with Chicken (off the menu, but available nonetheless). I took mine as it came (pleasantly spicy and tingly), but she asked for hers Extra Hot, and the kitchen complied cheerfully, while she tearfully ate the lot. La Cindee had the Pad Thai, which she enjoyed very much. The tariff was low, and the tummies were filled nicely. I will go back, but with so many economically priced and excellent Thai, Pan-Asian, and Vietnamese places to choose from within just three or four blocks' walk, I will save my next visit to Sawatdee for a return bout with the Drunken Noodles, and maybe kick it up just one notch.
