Wonderful service, tasty food, and a gorgeously decorated space! Would come back again!

Delicious! Went on a lunch date and got the chicken bolgogi (spicy) and it was so good …a nice sweet and spicy combo, same with the beef bolgogi! I recommend the pan fried dumplings.10/10

Came here for a late lunch and had a great experience. The service was top-notch and the food was both fresh and authentic. If you’re looking for Korean food around the area, they’ve got a bit of everything here so it’s a great option.

Actually tasted good, but the portions WERE NOT dinner size... for $30+, about 1/2 to 2/3 of the kalbi I have gotten in other Korean restaurants, and probably 1/3 portions of bonchon...

One of our favorite places for Korean when we are in New Haven, but the owners seem to be slowing down a bit.

The food is decent quality, but not the best we've had. It likely among the best in New Haven, though (limited choices) and IMHO better than going to a chain. We had the short rib kalbi, spicy pork bulgogi, rice cake appetizer and seafood pancake. As other diners mentioned, the portions are a bit small for the price. This is the major downside. They could increase the portions by 25% and this would not be a factor. Yes, it is weird that they keep the front door locked, but with just the husband and wife on staff and the wife in the kitchen 95% of the time, it is an understandable precaution. You are not rushed and can linger if you like.

Authentic Korean food that are true to the original form, no fancy variations to distract from he basic quality of the food. True family operation, very friendly and good service.

I’ve been here twice, just recently with some family and friends after a day of shopping at IKEA. The food was very delicious and felt authentically Korean to me. I tried the dumpling soup this time it was a comfort food for sure. The only strange part about coming here was actually entering the restaurant. The front door is locked tight and you need to ring a doorbell to come in. I went to let our friends in but the owner insisted he do it himself. It didn’t bother me much but it was weird. Other than that I had a great time here and would recommend you come if ever in New Haven.

I have been to many Korean restaurants and this is THE worst. It is over priced and has very low quality. I could hardly find any beef in the bibimbap. Instead of using real beef, it looked like bits of ground beef to me. I have never had this kind of beef bibimbap before. At first I thought they gave me the veggie one instead. Unbelievable low quality! The side dishes were also bad. I was very upset after eating there. No beef in beef bibimbap, I consider this is cheating. I don’t recommend it at all! Dishonest business!

Old school family run restaurant with solid food with a home cooked feel. Elegant interior with art. You do have to be buzzed inside but it’s not nearly as big a deal as some reviews made out. Would go again.

My partner and I came here for dinner and were greeted by a locked door. We had to press a doorbell to be let in. There were two other parties in an otherwise empty restaurant. The man who unlocked the door was not friendly and just grumbled at us. When we asked if there were any gluten-free dishes, this man just shortly replied that everything on the menu has gluten, and reiterated it again. He did not try to offer anything but just stated this. We told him we had to go but thanks. We then had to unlock the front door ourselves to let ourselves out. Very disappointing and strange experience.

Totally not recommending to visit this restaurant. The waiter was very hostile and he made me leave before ordering just because how unwelcome I felt. Horrible manners and atmosphere.

I was here with my family of 4 including my grandparents visiting from Ecuador they were really excited to try Korean food for the first time and we were treated very rudely by the man, he hurried us to order with an attitude, my mother had asked him for a picture for memories after bringing our food and he rolled his eyes at us and proceeded to reluctantly accept to take the phone by reaching his hand. My mom said no that’s it’s ok after that encounter and he left. After that we asked him if we could have straws for our waters and he threw them on the table and the straws didn’t have any wrapping paper or cover. he didn’t come at all after that. And once we got the check, my mom wanted to ask the woman why is this person treating us this way and she continued to say that’s just how he is and his attitude can’t be helped. I noticed throughout the time the other people coming in were not Hispanic like us but rather white and Asian and they were treated with such niceness and calmness by this man. I liked this place once. I had been there many times and I hated how the one time I brought the people I loved the most. People who didn’t speak English on they’re own and needed help from me and my mom had an experience like this. I will never be going back.

I remember only two things. 1. It is 4-5 dollars more expensive than other Korean restaurants. 2. The portions are much smaller than other Korean restaurants. If you have a lot of money and a full stomach, visit. And ENJOY.

They asked for $5 for more kimchi last time I went to eat here. Also, they weren't open for dine-in even though the website says they open from 12 to 8...

We were on our way to another restaurant when we saw Seoul and decided to eat their instead. I always wanted to try Korean food. We found the food delicious and very satisfying. I would eat here again. 😋

Authentic Korean food, the Daegu maewoontang is incredible, my favorite dish there - it makes you sweat a little, very good with soju. I order it often and it's the same every time. Tastes like home in a relaxed atmosphere.

Don’t come here unless you are Korean, you won’t be seated. Came here with my Puerto Rican family of 4, after an event excited to have some yummy authentic Korean food! It was a little before 2pm on a Sunday, my mother walked in first and we were looked at and told “CLOSED” nothing else.. it was pretty awkward. There were 2 other families dining in, so we were a bit confused. The listed hours online and on the door were 12-8pm. I was pretty bummed going back to the car, so I double checked and called in before we left and asked if they were open and the woman on the phone said “yes we are, do you have reservations?” And told us to come in anyway. Once I went back in myself to check, the man then said “No, we are closed till 5pm” ?? Who opens a restaurant at 12 then closes at 1:40? I looked at the reviews and seems like we weren’t the only ones with this kind of experience. We ended up going to DAWA Korean restaurant which was about 12 mins away and had an amazing welcoming experience! And great food 💜

Small portions and very expensive

Took my wife yesterday to the restaurant, very expensive compare to other Korean food. The quantity of each dish is small. Me and my wife both got diarrhea afterwards.

Believe it or not, I was a regular at this restaurant more than 25 years ago, even before google review was a thing. The place was great back then and popular in my social circles. Fast forward to a few days ago, I once again set foot in New Haven, this time with my family in tow. I was eager to refresh my memory of the fork-tender kalbi tang again. Not surprisingly, the couple running the place didn't look familiar to me-- it's highly likely the place has changed hand (even multiple times) since I graduated from Yale 24 years ago. I am sad to report that the experience was quite negative-- The banchan tasted stale; he kalbi tang had only 3 tiny pieces of bone-in short rib; the rice in bibimbap was too moist. And the food was expensive for the portion and the quality-- we spent close to $100 (before tax/tip) for 3 entrees and 1 appetizer. My fond memory of Seoul is forever scarred. Sad.

We got there around 4:30 and had the place to ourselves. The couple waiting on our table was very attentive. I would have liked to see more descriptions of the dishes on the menu. The prices online did not reflect the prices at the restaurant. This was my first experience at a Korean restaurant

I went there and it was the best experience I’ve ever had. The owner and his wife where so nice and friendly, they talked to us and we felt very welcomed. We ordered the 떡볶이 and 물고기 it was amazing!! The wife makes everything by hand the 김치 was the best I’ve ever had!!! Would 100% recommend going there.

The menu prices online DO NOT MATCH THE PRICES in the restaurant it's more expensive, it's also Very Strange how you have to enter the restaurant almost like it is some sort of "Secret Place" there wasn't any sauce served with our meal like it was supposed to be I still don't understand what the "House sauce" is or was. So it kind of lacked flavor, and we didn't expect that at all, they said didn't serve sauce with their meals. So they just gave us Soy sauce and said that's all they have. It was kind of weird but different

1. 반찬 리필은 유료(!). 그럼 일본처럼 아예 1인당 1인분 해당하는 반찬을 주셔야지. 혼자 가도 둘이 가도 어차피 똑같은 반찬 깔아서 나오던데 왜 추가 반찬에 별도의 금액을 지불해야하는지 이해할 수 없음. 2. 코시국에 Operation을 줄여서 하시느라 몇몇 메뉴는 안됨. 이해는 됨. 그런데 그냥 비빔밥은 안되고 돌솥 비빔밥만 가능함. 사장님 혼자 일하시면 돌솥 설거지가 더 힘들지 않으실까. 이유는 모르겠음. 3. 묵은 김치에 양념을 해서 만든것으로 추정되는 양념장을 베이스로 한 순두부는 개취. 깔끔한 느낌보다는 약간 함바집 찌개맛 느낌임. 4. 메뉴 구성에 비해 비싼 편임.

The food and service was great. My only problem was, I wanted to do hot pot and instead of bringing all the fixings and the pot out they put everything into the pot themselves and brought the finished soup to us. It was a great let down.

Fusion food! If you like real Korean food, it is sweet. For the American, it is pretty good foods.

Authentic Korean food with a mom-and-pop ambience. Quality is a top priority; don’t be surprised to find many items on the menu unavailable due to lack of ingredients. Having said that, every dish I have sampled has been top-notch. It is a bit pricey, and the portion sizes could be slightly larger, but these gripes aren’t enough to downgrade to less than a 5 star review.

Authentic Korean cuisine. We were alone for awhile on a quiet Saturday for a late lunch. The food was promptly served. The kimchi pajun wasn't of the style we expected. It refers to many things, so we should have asked. Their version was more of a veggie pancake with onions and other veggies, with less kimchi. The rice in the stone pot bibimbap was nicely lightly burnt, giving it the classic crunchy texture contrasting with the soft veggies. The house special kalbi was marinated perfectly. The boneless beef short ribs was tender and delicious. All in all a very pleasant lunch in a quiet atmosphere.

I’ve stayed in actual Korea-town in downtown LA... Seoul restaurant in New Haven tops all those restaurants I’ve been to in LA! The service is amazing and I had the Bulgogi, it came with a lot of meat and I loved every bite. Plus the restaurant has their own parking lot. Unlike most other places in New haven where it may be difficult to find street parking.

food was ok but not enough quantity for the price. the soups seems like frozen food just reheated. my family ordered seafood tofu soup but it had no seafood in it and the tofu was very crushed. i ordered spicy rice cakes and there were like not alot of rice cakes. overall it is a bit eh.

After seeing the reviews, I was sort of scared to go to the restaurant, but after eating there, I was pretty happy with what I got. Granted, the food portions were slightly small for the price, but the galbi was delicious. The owner and I had a great conversation while eating and I enjoyed the company. Overall, I’d recommend to my friends.

This is a really nice restaurant! The staff is friendly and the food is DELICIOUS!! Definitely have to come back here someday. This was my first time here and I am super full now lol, the food is 100% actual korean food which I loved since i’ve yet to find a korean restaurant that had REAL korean food until now. The food was good. I tried the Kalbi Tang aka beef rips soup, the Seafood pancake, and the tofu soup. The experience was pretty authentic. One the the biggest cons was the limited choices of dishes.

The food was delicious and the server was really friendly. I loved the bibimbap served in an extremely hot stone pot. My dish was sizzling almost the entire time it took me to eat. My only qualm was the service was a bit slow, there was only one man working the front, so I'm not sure if they were short staffed that night, or if it's just normally slow.

I stayed in Korea for 4 months and I was going through withdrawals for authentic korean food. I found this place and went with my parents who have never tried korean food. This place was absolutely fantastic!! My parents loved the food and we all could not stop eating. Sunny the chef and owner was incredibly attentive and accommodating. She made the experience even more superb. The food was out of this world and I will definitly be going back again and again!!

This food is good. Ordered rice and beef source. I can’t even recall the name of my order but it taste real good. The lady that waited on us was very pleasant and responsive. Our order didn’t take up to 10mins and I was immensely please cause I was famished. There’s reserve parking for the customers of Soul Restaurant. There’s also a accessible entrance.

This is an authentic Korean restaurant. When you are in the mood for really good Korean food, then this is the place for you. Very friendly servers and the food is like the way your grandma use to make it-simple, but delicious. When I feel lazy to cook, I bring my children here.

By far my favorite Korean place around! However it seems like everytime I go there, the restaurant is closed for a private party or something. They need to get better at turning off the open sign, and notifying their customers of temporary changes to their hours.

It seems like the only option for Korean food in New Haven. We stopped by for a late lunch. Their menu is pretty limited but I would say they have the standard Korean fare. We ordered the kalbi tang and the kimchi jigae. Kalbi tang: the broth is a slight brown which is different than the normal clear soup you would find. Also it was a bit salty but still tasty. The kalbi was also tender but it was a very small amount for the price point. Kimchi jigae: it tasted pretty good but was a little thick. Overall the meal was good though. The people working there were friendly and gave us extra banchans.

Never having eaten Korean food, we weren't sure what to expect. The restaurant itself is very clean and well maintained. We were the first ones there at 5:30. It was also the day after Labor Day, so not surprised. By the time we left it was half full. The gentlemen who took our drink order was very hard to understand, and he clearly had a problem understanding us as well! The chef/owner came over, fantastic! Answered all our questions. Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a hurry. When our food arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. Two of us ordered the Stone Bowl Bimbin Bap. A glorified vegetable fried rice with an egg. It's a little bland, add spicy hot sauce! Great! One ordered Special kalbi which was fabulous. And one order of pork Bul-go-gi. Both were flavorful and tender. The chef showed us how to eat our meals properly. Very attentive. Best Miso soup I've ever had! Very pricey, But a great experience. Will be back for sure! Try for yourself and decide.
