Exceptional spicy food.. well spiced and custom heat levels. Only strict chilly heads should do level 10… have ghost peppers will p(l)ay 😂 The ambience could do with less Indian kitschy decor… but then food outshines!

Went on a Sunday, didn't know it was buffet that day, it was not good. Perhaps it would have been better had I been allowed to order from the kitchen.

Sharmas is the only Indian place in town that I recommend. Such sweet and earnest employees. Very attentive service and DELICIOUS FOOD. Their buffet has more dishes that I can count and every one of them rocks. Tell your friends.

Food is not what it used to be. Pepper Shrimp were over cooked. No Lamb ? Warm water to drink ?? No ice ? & all for 25 dollars a Person. Won't be back for sure !!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sharma's Kitchen, and I must say, it was the most authentic Indian food I have ever tasted in the US. Fantastic buffet. Price is higher than most but you get what you pay for. Fresh naan and chicken skewers brought to your table. Never had a bad meal here.

Lady at the front desk is super rude and standoffish. I noticed her going out of her way to sweet-talk non Indian customers and being downright dismissive and cocky with the Indian ones 😂 don’t know where this complex comes from. Food is good, service is subpar. Leaving this review because that’s how much of a bad mark she left on me. Gulab jamun was atrociously sweet. Apart from that, I liked how the food tasted authentic without being heavy on spice, making it palatable to most people.

Changed review after second visit in 2024: extremely rude and mannerless owner. They've been stupidly dismissive and defensive to other negative reviews and i won't be surprised if they do the same to my review as well - it only shows how unwilling they are to improve and accept their mistake. They complain when people talk about their service without understanding that people go to restaurant for both, not just food. She spoke disrespectfully to people on two other tables. Someone asked her if Pani puri was available and she said "the menu card is in front of you." When people on another group questioned the bad service (they had ordered food on phone and it wasn't delivered on time), she refused to accept her mistake and instead yelled at her staff. When pointed out that she's rude her reply is "do you expect me to hug you?" It's unbelievable how someone in the service industry can be so mannerless. I've worked at a restaurant and i understand that it's a tough job but nothing warrants such disrespect. She wasn't rude to us, but I cannot be blind to such awful behaviour. If you have zero self respect, you may enjoy the food. If not, I suggest you drive to Taste of India for better food and service. Also, our roti was burned, potatoes in Pani puri were raw, and Pani of the Pani puri was basically a watered down tamarind chutney. Malai kofta was decent but the woman managed to ruin that with her attitude towards others. Some other friends who live in this area also had similar experience - said she talks excessively sweetly on phone but is extremely rude otherwise. I hope she learns that not being rude doesn't mean giving unnecessary hugs. It just means having basic manners and realising that a restaurant exists because of its customers. Original review from 2022: Wasn't expecting such good and authentic Indian food in a small college town, but this place surprised me! The portion size of entrées is big enough for two people. Rotis and naans have butter, so vegans may want to specify their preference. The restaurant was very busy even on a Tuesday evening. There was only one server who did a great job at managing the crowd and giving great service. They call their food 'medium spicy' but it's actually mild for an Indian palate (and my spice tolerance is lower than an average Indian's). Order a spice level higher if you want something really masaledaar and chatpata.

Shared a beautiful dinner with beautiful people. A woman spilled her water and it was cleaned up promptly. Buffet was hot and fresh. Samosas on a bed of lettuce elevated the appetizer. Chana Masala at a spice level of 5 delighted our palettes. Basmati rice and mint chutney was the real deal. Come for the garlic naan, stay for the lettuce. Delicious all around. WILL BE BACK!!! #lettuce

I have eaten here since the opening of the restaurant and always very much enjoyed it. Part of going out to eat is for the food, part is for atmosphere and the social aspect. Part is for customer satisfaction. I have never had an issue with the chef owner or his wife hostess. I see many others have had issue with Sharma’s wife being rude and condescending and when it is addressed they are often insulted by Mr. Sharma himself. So Mr. Sharma to be clear, people don’t come to your restaurant just to see your wife. They do come to the restaurant to eat but part of eating is enjoying the environment experience and customer service. Apparently this is something that you and your wife don’t understand. Factor in you charging 25$ per person without a drink is a little on the pricey side. You don’t even post the price. I certainly don’t see the value in paying such a price for things like lentils and rice. We both know those things are cheap and easily sourced. So factor in the price with the poor customer service by the both of you I will no longer dine at your restaurant.

The best Indian food I’ve ever had. Everything is so wonderfully spiced and cooked to perfection. I also love the naan! It’s so garlicky and buttery and pairs well with all of the dishes.

02/16/24- If you don't know they have the buffet again. I wasn't sure if they would bring it back. They have a wide selection of choices both meat and vegetarian. I enjoyed a little bit of everything. I had my fill of goat curry 🍛 and Gulab jamun dessert. It's about $25 per person, so I'll have to budget my visits. Sadly I didn't take too many photos.

The food is so yummy, I really love to take my kids there. The spicy food is so similar to the homemade Mexican food, the Naan is like our Tortilla, is always been a good experience .

The best Indian restaurant in USA. I enjoyed the delicious food and service. Kindness shown by Chef and front desk and waiters was amazing. Very respectful and welcoming owners. Chicken Tikka, Palak Paneer, Shrimp, Nan were perfect. Prices were reasonable. The Sharma kitchen is a blessing for Lafayette, Indiana and Purdue.

This is by far one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in years. Perfect little hole in the wall. We went for the weekend dinner buffet (which is the only option when the buffet is available). There were so many options. Everything tasted phenomenal and brought back memories of living in India in college. The place was busy and you could tell several families were regulars and knew the owners well. We will absolutely be back.

Okay well I called to ask if they were having buffet and the gentleman said no buffet and just carry out. No have a good day or anything but just hung up. I realize they are busy but what happened to customer service. My daughter in law is Indian and swore this is an awesome place but they probably treat annoying Americans a certain way. Maybe it was our timing, we are unsure, but arriving we were excited, and among entry we became confused as per what we've heard the eatery described as. Compact for a buffet. We were expecting to order from a menu but was never offered. Zero indication of price or selection. Our waiter asked our drink order and that was the only time we saw him. Walking to the buffet between the other tables of guest, we grabbed a plate and guessed at what we were eating. Few things were marked, some things looked like onions with veggies but was marked 'Ranch' so we filled our plates with different items to try. One side veggie, other side meats. Regardless the mild to heated pallet of flavor, many items had a dull note but the 'NaaN' was delicious. $25 per person for the late night buffet and we only ate one plate a person. If there were more than 5 main items to select from I may have went for a 2nd plate. But flavor-wise, from what I had to choose from, it didn't reach my level of expectation for a second round of the same items. Last thing, 'goat curry' 'goat' in general, has a distinct flavor profile, so to get a large piece of bone with marrow, was overpowering and nearly ended my meal. Being a foodie, I needed to finished what I started. Will I come back? That depends on if someone else from my grouping is interested in trying this establishment. My pallet is different than others, so don't make your choice to try this place based on my opinion. Thank you.

Based off of several negative reviews I’ve read, I can see that I’m not the only customer that has had a bad experience with the lady at the front counter (supposedly, the owner’s wife?) I was taken aback by how extremely rude and condescending on the phone she was, and also when I came into the restaurant to pick up my food. On the phone, she was sort of “mocking” my voice. In person, she had a very disrespectful tone and just everything. Every time I said something, for example, when I gave her my name for the order, she responded with “Oh my God,” and persisted to roll her eyes. It’s almost laughable to recall how blatantly rude and unprofessional she was. Instead of taking it personal, I wish her well. She must have a lot of inner issues she’s dealing with. The business may still be up and running now, but horrible service always catches up. PS. To make things worse, the food was very, very bland compared to the other Indian restaurants I’ve eaten at. I don’t know, maybe her attitude is rubbing off on the food, lol. For several reasons, please respect yourself and spend your money elsewhere.

It's kinda a small place, but that's part of what I love about it. Tons of vegetarian and vegan choices. The food isn't as spicy as you'd expect but still has a good kick. If you haven't been, you're missing out!!!

Pretty good quantity for an entree. The chicken tikka masala and palak paneer were delicious and so were the samosas. Service was good.

This place is overrated, the food is mediocre at best. Go to Taste of India or Dakshin for authentic Indian food. The Naans are ready -made Naans that are probably microwaved and served. You should expect freshly made Naans at a place rated this high and for the price of the Buffet. The chicken biryani was stale, chicken Tikka masala was a carelessly created dish with cream and color. The vegetarian dishes were no good either. The Baingan Bharath had burnt taste. The Paneer Tikka masala was just a bit sweet but like the chicken lacked any spices. Everything else in the veg dishes were at best mediocre. Spend your money at Taste of India or Dakshin if you are looking for authentic food.

Average experience. Naans were Undercooked. Tadka daal and paneer with achaar, papad were ok. Not highly recommended.

I don't know why they lady gets a bad rep. She is genuinely kind and friendly. The food taste is exceptional, I would say it is equally good as the food from top restaurants back in India. Such a rude and disrespectful lady (presumably owner) at the front desk:( I was visiting Lafayette after 6 years away and decided to have dinner there. They announce on the website that they are open till 9pm. I arrived with my starving kids at 8:25 after calling and confirming that they can have us, and the lady wouldn’t let us in claiming that they are closing soon. While on the phone she thought we are white Americans, but when we arrived she changed her mind because of who we are- she is beyond racist lady. Even the costumers who were checking out at that time and saw what happened felt so bad for us and were so apologetic just to see what she did to us. It was a huge mistake to think of going to such a horribly-run place. At least have some respect to others. If you wouldn’t let people in before 8:30, you should change your posted open times online. Although I used to like their food, I hated this place because of this rude lady. If there was negative rating on google, I wouldn't hesitate to rate this place at NEGATIVE 10..Never again👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Just name has Indian, nothing is Indian style food everything is mostly blant in taste and won't be good for people who likes their food a little spicy but this food was blant even when we ordered hot spicy level It was frozen garlic naan which was hard as nut and it was stale and chicken curry is filled with capsicum for more than half portion Avoid if looking for spicy and good Indian food

I used to think it is expensive compared to other options around the area for Indian food. After trying out other Indian restaurants in the area, I would say nothing comes close to this place in terms of how the food tastes as it is relatively more authentic than other places. The menu is very extensive starting from Indo-Chinese appetizers, and the main course (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items) and deserts, the list goes on for the buffet. Wouldn't expect anything less if you order ala-carte from the menu. The service and the dine in experience is great too.

First time in Indiana on our Purdue campus visit! Found this gem of a place. Amazing food and best service. Mrs. Sharma was kind enough for taking our order over phone. We were traveling cross country from NJ for 12 hrs. She took our order and hot food was ready for us when we arrived. Mr. Sharma was very kind, warm and friendly. He offered complimentary samosas to us. I wanted to try something other than our phone order and he offered tour new item completely complimentary. He talked with us spent time with my son. This was a warm welcome to Indiana and with home cooked food it feels like home. Thank you Mr. And Mrs Sharma. A must visit!!

It was our first time in Lafayette and we had a wonderful experience at Sharma's Kitchen! The front of the menu mentions a line about eating like a king and we were certainly treated like kings. The complementary Papadum were very nice but we were even more surprised by the complementary Samosas. The meal itself was excellent -- we ordered the Goat Curry special and the Lamb Vindaloo, both of which were delicious and homey. We ordered spice level 8, but would probably go with a 7 next time. We look forward to returning next time we're in Lafayette!

Very unwelcoming and rude owner. Went after 3 years but soon realized it was a mistake. Nothing wrong with the food or serving staff but the owners. The lady(owner) on front counter won't take an order over the the phone in advance so one can save time. Why so much mistrust? She had a fight with the person before us and soon after he left she started yelling "if you don't like our food, don't come to our restaurant, we don't care". That's not how you run business. Listen to people and be polite. Definitely not going there again.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Before reading this just remember i am a Chef too and Samosa Chaat is my favorite food. Chef or restaurant owners had absolutely no idea what a Samosa Chaat is. Two samosa, few undiced lettuce/onion leaf/stems, and a chickpea curry were presented as it is (not even broken or mashed) when Samosa chaat had been ordered. When asked if it was Samosa Chaat owner replied "yes it is " with high confidence, and asked us to break the samosa ourselves and make a Chaat ourself. Had I known Samosa Chat didn't consist of Yoghurt throughout my lifetime being a desi guy, I could have called it Samosa curry or chickpea samosa or something UNIQUE. The fact that they deceived the people intro tricking into serving whatever they wanna serve in the name of Samosa Chaat not only delivers a wrong message to non desi Americans but also makes desi people laugh in shame and cover their eyes. I hope anyone reading this doesn't order samosa chaat while in a date with your desi girlfriend UNLESS they define what a Samosa Chaat is. And recommendation from a chef to the dont forget the yoghurt, bhujiya/wheat mixture with finely chopped toppings of onions and serving at right temperature at right time to the customers so that the chaat doesn't get SOFT. Chaat is something people crave love to devour within 5-15 minutes as an appetizer. Hope the chef or restaurants learn a lesson not to deceive people when they dont know the meaning of a popular desi food and work towards conserving integrity of the desi food as an Indian restaurant. NOT recommending anyone unless changes are made to preserve integrity of Indian food in Lafayette area.

The curry is very creamy and welled seasoned. The naan is amazing! The service is nice and friendly.

The food is okay, but we faced a problem with the owner. She wasn’t very welcoming and nagged us for our order. Kind of a racist behaviour which we did not expect from someone of our race in a different country. Definitely not going back soon 🙏🏻.

The ONLY downside to Sharma's kitchen is that the hours are a bit unpredictable and you have to check if it's open before you go. The flavors of the dishes are simply incredible, and the service is very friendly :) The taste alone at Sharma's goes above and beyond Taste of India or Dakshin (which are also in Lafayette).

Best Indian food in all of Indiana. Best tandoori paneer Tikka in all of the world. The hospitality and the mouthwateringly delicious food and five star presentation are par none. Sharma Ji and his wife run this place so well and treat their guests like family.

What a fantastic restaurant! I got takeout, and the gentleman taking my order was very gracious as i stumbled my way through ordering dishes I mispronounced. The food was ready surprisingly fast, and while we waited everyone was so kind. The food itself was delicious, and I was glad I ordered a little too much because I had leftovers for lunch! Can't wait to go back and dine in.

Food was fabulous and out of this world and really brought alive the taste buds! Presentation was phenomenal. The paneer Tikka made you want to cry with tears of joy given how perfectly marinated and skewered it was. I agree with the other reviewers from India. The lady who I believe is the owner's wife is incredibly rude, to Indians. She is fake polite to Americans but rude to the people of her own origins. The food used to be good but now there are better options , especially in Indian/Punjabi cuisine category . Avoid this place if you don't want to be humiliated.

This place was pretty good a few years ago. However, I called in an order 4/3/2022 and asked for palak with cauliflower or mushroom and the lady rudely and angrily said, “You have to order what’s on the menu!” Then I asked for plain palak and she accepted. I also asked for very spicy. When I got home finally the portions are sooooo small for the expensive price and my palak was bland and oily. My garlic naan was flavorless. Unfortunately I will not be going back. It’s a shame they have gone so downhill… I recommend the Indian place in downtown west lafayette,Khana Khazana. Friendly, nice, accommodating, and good portions for price. Step it up Shwarma’s cuz there’s other Indian places in Lafayette that are much more customer friendly and kinder to the wallet…

Friendly staff, really good food (though I’m not expert on Indian), not bad for the price. While I was here recently both active wait staff members were extremely friendly to a family with kids, and helped comfort them when they were crying, even playing games and counting with them.

Ordered Kadhi curry with single naan, but quantity of their curry is too less, not even enough for single naan and rice that comes with it. Food is tasty but quantity very less for the price being charged, either they should increase quantity of curry or decrease the prices.
