Everything on the menu is exceptional but their catfish is their signature dish.

Great restaurant. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Definitely a must try. We will be back! Try the Shrimp & Mushroom Wontons and the duck breast!

We have been dining at Shiro's for over thirty years, and the food, service, and ambiance are still excellent.

Beautiful dinner. Great food, drink, service and atmosphere. They always make you feel very welcome.

There were a couple of appetizers that could have minor improvements made but whose flavors were excellent. The squash blossoms were excellent (but the sauce was too strong); the ravioli was over stuffed but the sauce was outstanding. The catfish needs a sauce on the side and what’s provided with it is largely bland. Perhaps a Thai-influenced sauce could be added. The wonton dessert was outstanding in flavors but sloppy to eat. Perhaps actual wontons could contain the elements or a soft dessert bread provided to soak up the sauce that is currently going to waste.

Excellent server, excellent food and lovely ambience. A wonderful Saturday night dinner out with great friends!

We’ve dined here before some years ago and it’s a shame we didn’t have the same experience. Our Server was not nice at all or welcoming. They brought all the food at random times no method at all and even made a pretty huge mistake on one of the dinner orders. By the way, do not ask to add any item even if you’d like to pay for it as they will crucify you. This restaurant is not kid friendly AT ALL, when asked for kid dinner suggestions they said they only have butter pasta and you are not allowed to add anything to it… go figure!!!! Anyway, pretty annoyed that we went back and very disappointed overall. I do want to add that the gentleman/host that sat us was very nice and attentive but unfortunately that can’t undo the whole experience at Shiro.

Had the most amazing meal at Shiro’s in South Pasadena for dine LA week ( one more week left) better get your reservation. The food is always fantastic, the service is excellent and Cheryl and staff make you feel like family.

Went for Dine in LA, I don’t think you will be going back. There are better places for the value out there.

Thanks so much for providing a wonderful dinner for me and my best friend again! This was a Big Birthday for her, and she enjoyed eating at Shiro so much. The special octopus appetizer was the best octopus that either of us had ever eaten, and I loved my soft shell crabs. As usual, my friend devoured most of your gigantic catfish. We also loved the passionfruit cheesecake--so special!!!

I have been to Shiro twice and service was outstanding on both occasions. Both times I ordered from the Taste of Shiro menu which is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays, if I’m not mistaken. All plates were delicious, shrimp, sea bass and duck breast. The au gratin potatoes are a tease…it’s out of this world!!! They’re so good, I feel I don’t get enough. Can’t wait to go back!

What a delight to find a restaurant with excellent food and service with an ambiance created by soft music and nicely spaced tables. If you like good food and want to hear what your dining partners are saying, this is the place for you.

This is my favorite place! Outstanding service, perfect music, friendliness of staff, etc. all go far to making Shiro the ideal place to spend an evening. And the food! You cannot get better food anywhere. The menu is very creative (and always changing), and each plate is unforgettable. And the staff is equal to the food in excellence, so that I feel I always feel I am being welcomed home. This is the hidden gem of Pasadena, and I would be willing to travel far for the Shiro experience. Highest recommendation!

We all had a great time thanks to the amazing food, excellent service, and quiet ambience. The restaurant is small, so eating here feels intimate and special. From the mixed drinks to the deserts and coffee, everything was prepared with care and ingenuity. The service was outstanding without being at all intrusive. This is where we go for special times, and it is always up to the mark.

I come all the way from Newport Beach for this restaurant. The food, the service are always 5 star. Highly recommend this place! You can’t go wrong!

The host was gracious and accommodating when I requested a quiet table due to my hearing. Everything was lovely and service very good. Food was nice too with a really good menu. Definitely will come back again. My husband left his wallet but they picked up the phone and were still there when he went back. That was also nice of them. Great neighborhood restaurant!

The appetizers are amazing! I always go with friends so we can order several dishes and share. The great thing is that we can order an extra serving so everyone gets a taste (e.g., there 3 crispy salmon tacos in the dish and we can order an extra piece for our table of 4 people).

This the best dining experience I’ve had in a long time. Every single dish and drink we got was outstanding. Service was top notch too. We got the prix fixe menu and for three courses it was around $70. I don’t think that is too high considering the quality of food at all. We got lamb chops that were super tasty and perfectly cooked with lots of sauce. We also got a cocktail (martini) to start, which was perfect, and the $18 wine flight with dinner. The wine pours were generous (menu said two ounces, but it seemed a bit more—about half of a small wine glass x three wines). I will definitely be back!

Shiro is my favorite restaurant in the Pasadena area. Everything is excellent - the food, service, and ambiance. The owner and the staff make their customers feel welcome. The prices are reasonable compared to other fine dining restaurants, and they have not tacked on any service or convenience fees like many restaurants have over the past two or three years. There is a reason this restaurant has been in business for 30+ years.

Because of the outstanding food on our prior visit a year ago when we ordered their impressive signature whole catfish, we returned to have it again. This time we ordered 2 catfish rather than sharing 1 fish. Although it was still good to very good, this time they were both very clearly overcooked which was disappointing. There was quite a long delay in getting our order this time compared to the first visit and the restaurant did not seem excessively busy. We are guessing that the cooked fish sat too long before it was served which could have contributed to its drying out. We did point this out to our server at the end of the meal. There was no comment really. The appetizers we ordered were very good to excellent.

A very special place. The heart of the owner is evident in everything- the outstanding quality of the food particularly the catfish which is my favorite. The sensitivity and kindness of the service. The choice of beautiful jazz at the perfect volume. The paintings in the wall and the lighting. It’s perfect for romance and caring relationships. Or self care. Exquisite!

Shiro is a longtime neighborhood gem that shines brightly in South Pasadena. Michelin Guide needs to visit South Pasadena and include Shiro. We started with the Shiro shrimp raviolis (a must order), the asparagus with hazelnuts and a green salad and roasted vegetable salad. All were so fresh with lovely dressings. The Scottish salmon, Loup de mer, and New Zealand snapper were all outstanding with light and flavorful sauces that compliment the quality of the fish. We finished off with the apple tarts. Almost like a turnover, but with an even lighter and flakier crust showcasing the apples. You will not want to share. Immaculate service from when you are first graciously welcomed into the restaurant until you finish. Thank you Christina, Alfonso and the young gentleman who was always checking to make sure our water glasses were full. They were exceptional. We will be back to enjoy more of the menu!

The service here is outstanding, making for a lovely meal. The food, while very delicious, didn’t quite meet my high expectations for this restaurant. The interior, nice, but not the most refined. Overall a great meal, but just not quite worthy of highest praise.

Perfect, from the Hostess to the elegant, polite waitress. Food was amazing. The yellowtail carpaccio was delicious as was the shrimp wonton. Our pan seared tuna was done to perfection, and our chicken was moist and delicious; full of flavor. Apple tart was excellent. Good products cooked wisely. Quite place, maybe because there wasn’t many people, which we appreciate. And spacious, clean, nice and simple. A real hidden gem in the neighborhood. Coming from living in NYC for many years where you can find the best restaurants, finding this place here in Pasadena was a wonderful experience for us.

Delightful restaurant with excellent seafood preparations. We enjoyed our John Dory and New Zealand Snapper, with the Chinese Won Ton appetizer, and the Apple Tart for dessert. Fine service and a nice place for a great dinner.

Food was nothing special. Lacking flavor. Too expensive for what you get. Menu did not have a lot of options. But service by people was very good.

It’s been some years since I last dined at Shiro, and I was so delighted that it has fully maintained its superlative status as a first rate restaurant experience on every level. Shiro offers casually elegant dining in a handsome, intimate and stylish storefront in a historic district in South Pasadena. The French-Asian menu offers amazing creations and flavors that will entice and satisfy. My husband had an appetizer consisting of the plumpest, most tasty pan-fried oysters imaginable, as well as a wonderfully seasoned uni pasta. I had sea bass in a rich sauce over Japanese eggplant. The service is impeccable, from the initial greeting and seating to the server and helpers. It is friendly, caring and professional. We will certainly not wait years until our next visit.

We ordered the day special and two their most popular dishes- cat fish and Chinese Ravioli. My husband like the catfish. We all think the Ravioli is very common. The fried oyster, rib eye steak, uni pasta is very good. When iI made reservation, i remark it is for birthday. They don't ask during the meal, so i think they may ignore it. But when we asked the bill, the waiter brought a small dessert with candle light in. This is a good surprise.

This restaurant is always fabulous. Unfortunately, this nite the waitress forgot it was my client's birthday so that wasn't cool. Other than that, a must! Fabulous food and suited for quiet conversation.

Every dish we had was bursting with flavor. You won’t be disappointed.

We had a good meal. All desserts were yummy except the Crème brûlée that was not creamy at all, very odd. I am sorry to say it was the worst crème brûlée I ever had . Won't order it again.

We came here for our anniversary, the perfect place! We each had an appetizer- wonton ravioli and the truffle ravioli. My husband had a melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon but the ravioli was enough for me. And to our surprise, we had a dessert on the house for our anniversary! So sweet! We will definitely come back and try other things on the menu. The service was attentive, friendly, and just welcoming!!

Shiro Restaurant is as good as we remembered since it first opened in the late 80s. For any restaurant to have such a longevity speakers for itself. The food, service and friendliness of everyone who works there are just outstanding.

The lobster medallions, shrimp and Canadian sea scallops in ginger lime sauce is the most delicious dish you will find anywhere in the most upscale restaurants. For what you get, it is a bargain! Really one of our favorite restaurants!! Love love the Catfish!! Best in California!! Last night I had most delicious lamb chops’s ever! So tender and perfectly cooked!! Wine selection is great! We enjoyed a bottle of Maddelena Cabernet !Thank you Shiro!

This restaurant has been a family favourite for over 20 years. My father enjoys the catfish and the rest of the family dabbles in different entrees but we are always pleased with what we ordered. The service is pleasant and friendly.

Had never been there before, it's beautiful inside. It's like,a home,away from home for many dinners, many of them knew each other! Very mature clientele. One couple come in twice a week. The staff was very friendly, professional and attentive. The owner came up and introduced herself. Would certainly go back again; however, limited menu. Had the lamb chops, delicious!

Dinner was excellent from decor to service to the entire purpose of being there, the food! I judge restaurants on how well fish is prepared. The snapper was exquisitely flaky with crispy skin on a bed of deliciousness. The so superb that I was a patron twice in a week. The second visit; the halibut remained moist and delectable ❤️ The only reason I would not recommend is because I want to find a seat when I want!

We frequent Shiro’s on many special occasions for their consistency of excellent service and quality food. A must is to order their catfish. Last year I celebrated my 79th birthday at Shiro’s. Our son chose Shiro’s for his birthday this year. We love Shiro’s as do many of our friends. Never disappointed.
