Excellent and unique Chinese food

food is great. the interior decorations are a bit dated - feels like from the 1990s.

We had been to this restaurant more than 10 years ago and always curious to return. We are glad we actually did. Food is delicious and authentic. A native from Sichuan I could see a lot of authentic touches in the dishes that are hard to find in other restaurants in the area. The portions are very generous comparing to the price. Three of us walked out with a $90 bill after ordering three entrees one appetizer and one desert. The ambiance needs some work as you can see a lot of boxes piled right in front of you when you enter and decor needs some improvement. Service is ok but waiters could be more enthusiastic.

Somewhat hole in the wall feel. But food is really good and portions are large. I particularly enjoy the spicy foods.

The dishes we ordered are traditional in Sichuan Chengdu. They taste much better than the last time I was in this restaurant shortly after its opening years ago.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. Have ordered here many times, both dine in and takeout. I cannot say that any dish in particular stands out above the others but the Sichuan dishes are all very good and I have found I have always gotten my money's worth on whatever I ordered. Great taste and portions for the price!

March 2024 We came here for lunch on a Sunday. It was pretty quiet and not very busy. There was only one waiter for the whole place with the guy behind the desk helping out when needed. Service was quick, but this is definitely a place where you need to flag someone down if you want something. This place is located in a slightly sketchy looking shopping center. Note that the parking lot surrounding the area is divided into paid parking (mainly for Rockville Town Center) and free parking for the shopping center. The paid parking spaces have green signs and are marked with #2850 for ParkMobile. The inside is dimly lit, with all the windows covered by both blinds and curtains. Entering, the right section has 4-people booths while the left section is a few steps up and has tables of various sizes. The place is clean, though the booth section is a little cluttered with supplies along the wall opposite the booths. They play quiet and soft instrumental music in the background. The food was good, some better than others. The scallion pancake was obviously pan fried (this is good), with minimal oil. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a decent amount of scallions (less than what I prefer, but typical for a restaurant). The beef noodle soup was definitely spicy, a bit past my tolerance from someone who prefers mild-spicy. The soup was not oily and the beef was tender. The orange chicken was white chicken and slightly dry. The orange sauce was a little bit too light, but definitely orangey. The soup dumplings were ok, different from Taiwanese soup dumplings (which is to be expected). They do have a good amount of soup in each. Note that the accompanying sauce had alcohol in it. Overall, both the service and food were ok. May come again.

I really enjoyed Suchuan Jin River. I started with a wonton soup which was tasty. We shared shrimp w mixed veggies, chicken and broccoli , dumplings (both steamed and fried) - both great- and also Singapore noodles . Everything was tasty and I’d def return!

I liked their Sichuan Beef Noodles soup. It was very tasty. The quality of their chicken in their stir fried minced chicken should be improved.

We have been coming to Jin River for spicy Chinese foods since 2015. Great location, next to the block, right by Rockville town center area. Their dishes spices are not the spiciest but the SiChuan flavor is authentic. From meats to fish to all sorts of Chinese pastries are all very delicious. Also don’t forget to try their smoked duck meat, one of my favorite. The customer service has always being friendly and attentive. Pricing is reasonable. The restaurant has been here forever, but it does not seem like any renovation has been done on it, so looks dated both inside and outside. There are plenty parkings out front and around, BE AWARE, only the ones right in front of the restaurant with no pay parking signs are free. Others are all pay to park. Do recommend by @winedinenvacay

Had an awesome dinner here! My family of four was originally going to go to Bob's Shanghai 66 but decided to try this place instead. Dont expect fine dining with white table cloths as this is not it, however the food here was AWESOME! We had the Singapore noodles, ham/shrimp fried rice, sauteed green beans, crispy salty fried shrimp, General Tso's chicken, and a pork dish that I asked for Andy (our waiter) to recommend. From his recommendation I needed something not too spicy as my two kids may not have liked it. I cant remember the name of his recommemdation but it was spot on like all the other dishes we ordered. Make sure you bring your appetite as the portions here are rather large, which Im definitely not complaining about. We had enough to box up three take home containers at the end of the night. I paired my meal with a Sapporo beer, my wife had a ginger ale, and my kids had canned soft drinks. We arrived somewhere between 5:30-6:00pm yesterday (Saturday January 27th, 2024) and were seated immediately. The smaller booths that seat two were pretty much full but parties larger than two sit in another area which is where we were seated. Within about 20 minutes of us being there the place was pretty much packed, so obviously we got there right in time. Will definitely be back as this is definitely a diamond in the rough. I came here a ton as a kid and came by fairly recently with my family for the first time in over a decade. I'd say, overall, it was hit or miss. I unfortunately don't know the names of too many of the dishes I ordered in English, as many are traditional Chinese dishes. However, the classic dishes that I remembered as a kid are just as good as they used to be. A couple, on the other hand, were fairly mediocre. Big fan of the hai xian guo ba, but the tofu dish that we got was fairly average. Service is good, so no complaints there. This is a fairly authentic restaurant, so keep that in mind (all the servers speak fluent Chinese).

Truly cannot recommend this place enough -- Sichuan Jin River is my new go-to for authentic and delicious Chinese food! They have a wide array of my childhood classics, and they certainly take the "Sichuan" in their name seriously, so be prepared for some heat (and some numbing)! I came with a group of four on a chilly, rainy DMV evening, the perfect weather for some hot Chinese fare. We got an array of seafood and veggies, including their Whole Fish & Bean Jelly in Hot Sichuan Sauce, Mapo Tofu (without the pork), Stir-Fried String Beans, and Crispy Rice Cake & Vegetables in White Sauce. It's hard to pick a favorite from that list since every single item was executed to perfection. As far as the proteins go, the fish was delightfully tender and perfectly seasoned; the Sichuan hot sauce absolutely packed a punch and paired wonderfully with the steaming white rice. I appreciated that the kitchen allowed us to modify the mapo tofu to take out the pork, and I'm so glad we had the opportunity to try it! Like the fish, the tofu was super tender and the hot, numbing sauce was perfect. The veggies were equally delicious -- the string beans were crispy on the outside and soft in the center, with a great char from the wok and a huge punch of flavor from the blackened garlic. Both the crispy rice cakes and vegetables were certainly crispy; the veggies were fresh and not too overcooked, and they paired wonderfully with the light white sauce. If you do order this one, definitely try to eat it quickly, though, as the crispy rice cakes will lose their battle with the sauce after 10-20 minutes and get a touch soggy. Not only was everything delicious, but it was also super affordable! Our individual bills (not including tip, but including tax and two other meat dishes beyond what I listed above) came out to ~$20! Not bad at all for a DMV restaurant and a pretty hefty meal. So if you're craving some authentic, no-frills Sichuan food at an affordable price point, definitely give Sichuan Jin River a try!

A surprisingly wide variety of authentic sichuan dishes. Go with a group so you can order a variety of different dishes. One visit could not taste all the menu items - you may need 10. It is that many. Most of dishes are unique, ie not the typical Americanized ones. Best to bring someone who can read chinese for best choices. If you are into internal organs n lamb dishes, it has many choices. Chongqing Spicy Chicken highly recommended by my non-veggie friends.

An authentic Sichuan experience - they serve a variety of well cooked dishes, all properly spicy and numbing as you'd expect out of Sichuan cuisine. I came here with a friend group a few days ago and we ordered a number of staples - double cooked pork, cumin lamb, chengdu spicy chicken, and hotpot boiled beef (I'm not sure how else to translate it). Every dish was high quality and tasted good, and the overall price for the meal was quite reasonable. The dishes I listed above are all recommended, though anyone who orders them should be wary as they're all spicy! Of course, if you're coming to a Sichuan restaurant missing out on the spice would be a shame.

Perhaps, I found the only Szechuan restaurant that truly serves very hot food. I ordered a Hunan beef and it was so hot. I could not eat it. I am used to very spicy food. My poor waiter was the only one working the entire restaurant with several large parties. I couldn’t blame him for not attending to me for the water I most desperately needed. the food quality was overall good, but they did used canned mushrooms instead of fresh mushrooms in the dish, egg drop soup was good the eggrolls average. .

Just when I thought sichuan numbing spicy food was growing out of style and getting pushed out by the all-too-convenient gimmicky restaurants serving processed food disguised with natural ingredients, I am introduced to this diamond-in-the-rough restaurant called Sichuan Jin River. I truly mean diamond-in-the-rough because one wouldn't know there would be a restaurant here unless you look hard for this one story place nestled among multi-story apartment buildings. What's more amusing is that Jin River's sichuan food taste like they are on another level compared to Peter Chang's tourist-driven (aka dissappointing and soul-crushing) sichuan food served right across the street. Unlike any other sichuan restaurants I've reviewed over the past 6 years, the entrees here sport quite a bit of exquisite "wok-hay". The main reason for my 5-star rating is that I actually found an entree to add to my "death-row meal" list which is a coveted list to make if I might say so myself. My new all-time fav Sichuan entree is the 'sichuan dry-fried salt pepper intestines with peppers' - and I cannot find any other Chinese restaurants that serve this unless you drive all the way to NE DC. I'm quite relieved to see Jin River a covid19 survivor as I would have never discovered a new death-row meal hiding in the middle of Rockville. And I couldn't be more enthused when I see the clientele packing in and eating all the other entrees that I started to crave as our table finished our meals. I've been to Jin River a long time ago and it's obvious I just ordered the wrong items - am told the rule of thumb here is to talk to the staff or owner and tell them what kind of food you like and they'll order it for you. So if you decide to visit Jin River, please see my previous sentence to aid your sichuan food journey.

I’ve only come a few times for the general Tsos but it’s fantastic. Chunks of chicken breast, flavorful and it seems they make sure their ingredients and veggies are fresh. One of my favs.

This place has been a stalwart along Rockville Pike/355 for decades it seems but I’ve never tried it until yesterday. I’m sure glad I did. The interior decor isn’t fancy but it gets the job done. The food is really tasty there. The menu is extensive and easy to read. Service is fine and efficient. We came at a busy time so they offered us a tiny table for 2 near the back. But being more interested in the food and hungry, my companion and I did not mind at all bc we especially enjoyed the sesame noodle (hot), the shrimp and scallop in black bean sauce, and the fried tofu with mixed vegetables. The flounder with peppercorn and udon was also not bad. Will visit again. ParkMobile parking is available around the restaurant but if a little further away you can park in Garage A for two hours free.

Food is always great here... I love the deep fried hot pepper tofu it's like an addiction. Each dish is enough for 2 meals, so the price is reasonable considering the portion. A decent amount of vegetarian dishes that aren't just steam mix vegetables.

The spicy pork chops are good. Ask for the mala peppercorns. Christmas dinner is always chaos but the staff handled it well. Courteous and great food. General Tso and the mala mapo tofu are fantastic.
